“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” Plot Summary

The Best Film I’ve Ever Seen

Not too long ago, my sister watched Aladdin a lot. I thought the music was pretty good, and I wanted to check out more music by Alan Menken. I found Hunchback. I vaguely recalled scenes I had seen when I saw it at the theater (I was 5 or 6 then), so I wanted to remember what exactly happened in it. I listened to some of the music from it, and I was hooked. ‘Bells of Notre Dame’ and ‘Topsy Turvy’ continually play in my head (and I continually play them on the piano).

I honestly think this movie is the best film I have ever seen. The music is fantastic, the animation is great, and the story is touching and heartwarming. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good film.

it’s one of the best movies i’ve seen

This movie was one of the most moving movies I have ever seen. There were parts where I cried. I thought one of the coolest things about this movie was the introduction of Quasimodo. Not that part with Frollo almost drowning him, but the part where he comes out to check on the bird. The first time you see his face, it doesn’t hit you as horrifying at all. Then, you see him talking to the little bird, and you realize how sweet and kind this guy is. I fell in love with him right there. By the way, I actually like his smile, I think it’s cute. Anyways, you start to really identify with the character when he’s sad about only being able to watch the festival. You start to see more emotion in this character and you feel for how alone he is and you feel so sorry for him. But, Quasimodo’s ability’s astound me. I know that his enormous strength is realistic after 20 years of ringing those heavy bells, but when he breaks the pillars before going to rescue Esmeralda, that was awesome. I like the gargoyles too, that was pretty neat. This is one of those classic Disney movies that you will never forget. Anybody who gives this movie less than a ten is nuts.

Exciting, Dramatic Cartoon

I recently re-watched this Disney movie. I remember vague feelings of sadness and depression that I experienced as a 9-year-old child, but this movie truly blossomed for me after the second viewing

The animation and music are excellent. A lot of work was put into this much-scorned Disney classic, and it’s a shame that the movie never truly found an audience. Adults dismissed the sombre mood as inappropriate for children, and others were uneasy because of the tortured character of Frollo. The sexual tension between Frollo and Esmeralda is a central part of this despicable villain’s character

The characters are all well-developed, displaying internal conflicts, wishes, and desires. Quasimodo himself is a misunderstood hero who’s grown to accept his strange appearance. Esmerelda is a brave, vivacious girl that is merely a victim of opposition. She is also somewhat religious, a quality that is extremely rare in any Disney character. Phoebus becomes a selfless man that resists the evil orders of Frollo. Frollo himself is a complex, tortured man that is torn between his base desires and his moral superiority that forces him to reject those feelings

An atmosphere of heavy seriousness cloaks the movie, and it is very effective. The brilliant realization of Tony Jay’s character Frollo makes the story all the more sinister and claustrophobic. This isn’t your typical Disney movie, naturally. Instead, we are presented with a dark, twisted world that is governed by the corrupt ‘judge’ Frollo. The abuse of misfits and gypsies is common in Hugo’s version of Paris, and Disney took a great risk in creating this movie. Although some people don’t like the odd mixture of Catholicism, moral dilemmas, heroism, and talking gargoyles, I believe that this is one of the best Disney movies out there

It might not be your style, but all fans of Hugo should give this movie a try. It is entertaining, exciting, and intelligent.
