    “Kingpin” Plot Summary

A star bowler whose career was prematurely “cut off” hopes to ride a new prodigy to success and riches. add synopsis

    Funny and quite good…

A bowling star has everything going for him. He wins every tournament…and he is quite popular…that is…until some jealous gang-bangers put him in an ‘accident’ in which he ends up without a hand, which means that he will have to live for the rest of his days with a hook as a substitute. Many years later, he is a mean old grouch, but then he meets a bowling star from the Amish country who reminds him of his glory days…before his horrific ‘accident.’ He vows to teach him how to bowl like a pro…and in this way, he can somehow feel as if he is accomplishing something…as if he hasn’t lost his ability to play after all

Overall, a pretty good film, Kingpin will leave you laughing, but since a lot of it is old style humor, many think it is a waste of their time

With Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, and Randy Quaid

“A League of Their Own” Movie Review

“A League of Their Own” Plot Summary

Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.

    I Loved It!

I saw this movie long time ago and I still watch this movie. ‘A League of Their Own’ is absolutely hilarious and also has some drama. I think this movie owes a big one to the actors who brought so much fun. Geena Davis plays Dottie Hinson, a loving sister who has some troubles with her younger sister, Kit, and struggles on making decisions of wether she should stay in baseball team (Rockford Peaches) or go back to her home with her husband who just came back from World War II with broken arm(or was it a leg?). It surprised me when I found out that Geena was inches taller than most of the women in the movie. She showed off many fascinating stunts, such as catching a flying baseball with one hand and sliding like a ballerina when catching the foul ball. She was great

Tom Hanks was hilarious as Jimmy Dugan, an alcoholic hitter who became a baseball coach of Rockford Peaches. Jim hates that job, but as the time goes by, he realizes that the girls are very good and he gets pretty enthusiastic about the game and all. I love the part when he gets frustrated and shouts, ‘There’s no crying in baseball!’ and gets on a fight with the judge. Jimmy Dugan is probably one of Tom’s best characters so far

Another great performance by Lori Petty, who played Geena Davis’ sister, Kit. Kit is a very good player, but she gets jealous of Dottie and eventually joins another team called Racines. Somehow, I loved her performance

Then there are other great actings by Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell. They are somewhat nasty girls in the team who happen to be two close best friends. They bring so much joy to this movie and I loved the dancing scene at the bar. Madonna plays her part really well and Rosie is just great as always

Megan Cavannagh was funny also. She played Marla Hooch, who was obviously one of the best players in the team, but unfortunately her looks did matter when she was joining the team. Even though she might not be a best singer (scene at the bar was funny!), she met a great man and got married. Ann Cusack, who played Shirley Baker was pretty forgettable, but she played the sweetest role. Other roles like a player who is a mother of a naughty son (can’t remember her name, though) was also sweet, and the player who lost her husband made me cry. A pretty blonde player who used to be Miss Georgia was good also. Jon Lovitz plays a scout and gives the hilarious lines and I wish he had played more. And don’t miss Tea Leoni as the Racine player! She appears in some scenes, so keep your eyes open. And the older version of the characters looked so much like the younger versions. Especially the Old Dottie Hinson

So if you are depressed and want to watch a funny, witty movie and just have some fun – go and rent this movie. I would give 3 1/2 out of 5 (probably not a breath-taking film, but very entertaining).

    “Rocky 2″ Plot Summary

Rocky struggles in family life after his bout with Apollo Creed, while the embarrassed champ insistently goads him to accept a challenge for a rematch.

    I liked it a lot

Rocky 2 is a really good movie however I honestly don’t think its a necessary movie. The only real difference between this movie and the original is that Rocky wins in this one. I wanted Rocky to win in the first one like every underdog movie but the point of the first one was for him to go the distance. This movie is the ending that I would have liked for Rocky I but I honestly don’t think there needed to be a movie just for that. I enjoyed Rocky 2 and its a good sequel but I don’t think the movies necessary and its not necessary in the Rocky time line. I’ve seen worst Sports Movies and I’ve seen better Sports Movies. The movie also deals with how Rocky would seem if he was rich which is entertaining and interesting.

    Amazing

I had no doubt in my mind that this movie was going to be great. I watched it a couple weeks back, and my god..It’s a work of art, I tell you.

I have never really seen many films with Mickey Rourke, that I remember. I had never really paid any attention to him, until now. He is an amazingly gifted actor. I cannot see anyone else being as right for that part, as he was.

I will be watching this movie again and again. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, it doesn’t matter..It’s an amazingly, well done movie.

    Go see it! 10/10

    “Remember the Titans” Plot Summary

The true story of a newly appointed African-American coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated unit.

Best Movie I’ve Ever Seen !

Remember the Titans was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It really showed the passions of all of the people in the movie. It showed that a single high school football team can change the minds of a town and what they think about each other. It taught us a good lesson on racism. Most people just think of movies as entertainment but Remember the Titans was so much more than that and people could really learn a lesson by watching this movie. I suggest that every person watch this at least once in their life because it changed the way I look at everybody. Each character in the movie really had an important part and I can’t believe that this really happened in real life. It is a painful thing to think about how messed up our world is and how it is so full of hatred.

    “Coach Carter” Movie Review

    “Coach Carter” Plot Summary

Controversy surrounds high school basketball coach Ken Carter after he benches his entire team for their breaking their academic contract with him.

One of the best movies around

This movie isn’t just about sport but has an underlying moral message which is been shown throughout the film. Sport won’t get you far unless your a great but study and hard work in school will get you everywhere. Enter, a town that is quite poor and a basketball team who just want to win. Once Ken Carter accepts the job, the whole team changes and it is for the better. Another message this film teaches is respect, at the beginning just after meeting the boys, Ken expresses a need for the boys to show respect not only for themselves but for their friends and elders. He does this by explaining how the word ‘nigger’ can be used as a degrading term and how by dressing themselves with respect, behaving respectfully isn’t bad at all

As soon as I saw this film, I knew that I wanted to see it. It has everything that makes a great movie, action, great dialog and most importantly, a good moral message and in a time where morally corrupt movies are on the rise, a great movie like this is a rare find

Intiallly, my friends didn’t want to see this movie with me as they thought it was boring, and too intense but after months and months of waiting, I finally hired it out on DVD and watched it

You can actually take things away from this movie and it has a very good morals which can be applicable to everyone.

    “Seabiscuit” Plot Summary

True story of the undersized Depression-era racehorse whose victories lifted not only the spirits of the team behind it but also those of their nation. add synopsis

    Good movie

One of my favorite movies. Movies based off of books make me read the book, but with this, that isn’t so. This movie and the Harry Potter ones are good enough that I don’t need to read the book- and I read all the time.. avid reader. When I first watched it years ago, it was a little boring at the beginning. I now fast forward the beginning, as I already know it and want to watch the horse parts. I think horse people would like this movie more than non-horse people. But all movies will have people that like it and don’t; different tastes and opinions, but I like this movie. There were inappropriate scenes that I’d hate when I was younger, but the horse racing is exciting. I think Seabiscuit wins… and that was like ‘Duh.’ Of course he wins. I like things that are odd/different and unlikely to succeed, so I liked the plot, the odd little horse, large jockey…

    “Million Dollar Baby” Movie Review

    “Million Dollar Baby” Plot Summary

A hardened trainer/manager works with a determined woman in her attempt to establish herself as a boxer.

Beautifully acted, beautifully shot, intimate and profound

The thing that initially struck me about Million Dollar Baby was that it was beautifully shot, making excellent use of light and shade, close and far perspectives, angle and slow-motion. Within these techniques, which are used for effect and not over-used to show off, the simple narrative was able to take shape, performed by actors who appreciated its depth and subtlety, so played their roles with reserved emotion and calm understatement that fit their characters perfectly. Lesser performers would’ve made a botch of the roles that Eastwood and Swank crafted to near-perfection

The movie concerns itself with boxing but is not a boxing movie, rather that’s just the vehicle for its main themes: hope, dreams, determination, success and then loss. Still, it would be facile and glib to ‘use’ boxing in this way and then just gloss over its intricacies… this is where Morgan Freeman’s earthy narration comes into play, telling us all there is to know about training boxers in that same assuring way he told us about Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption. So we can chart Maggie’s progress without the characters having to pause and explain what’s going on, and Swank herself – playing the role with layers of nervousness, exuberance, doggedness and zeal – provides the perfect canvas for us to see these changes

The main narrative is simple so shouldn’t be spoiled, however other subplots are constantly at work throughout the movie: Eddie’s own career and his relationship with Frankie, Maggie’s poor background and her relationship with her abhorrent family, Frankie’s long-lost daughter and his taunting interplay with his local priest. None of these runs away with or smothers the movie, nor are they followed through to much conclusion, but they provide intriguing depth to the three main characters as we come to know them in the shadowy expanse of Frankie’s boxing gym. Million Dollar Baby shows you that great films do not need a convoluted storyline or a supercilious screenplay, just great actors and a great cinematographer.

    “Raging Bull” Movie Review

    “Raging Bull” Plot Summary

An emotionally self-destructive boxer’s journey through life, as the violence and temper that leads him to the top in the ring, destroys his life outside it.

    Incredible acting

‘Raging Bull’ is a masterpiece of filmmaking. It is entertaining, but to me, it is more of a technical movie than an entertaining movie

The acting is undescribable. Some terrific performances are featured in this film, especially Robert De Niro’s performance, which is the stuff of legends. It was probably one of the most predictable Academy Awards ever that year, because Robert De Niro just blew everyone else away. Joe Pesci brings us another amazing performance. Martin Scorsese’s directing is near perfect, and we are treated to great black and white cinematography. Basically everything about this movie had ‘OSCAR’ stamped on its forehead

Although ‘Raging Bull’ is, in a technical sense, one of the greatest movies ever made, it fails to entertain on all levels. There are many moments in the movie that are incredibly entertaining, however, there are some moments where it just seems to be too slow-paced. I am usually all for slow-paced movies, as it helps to build up the plot and the characters, but I feel that ‘Raging Bull’ could have been cut short 15 or 20 minutes and it would have been more entertaining, and still just as great when it comes to all the technical aspects

Sum-up: If you are looking for some of the best acting you will ever see, look no further than ‘Raging Bull.’ If you want entertainment, you will find it in ‘Raging Bull’, but it probably won’t be as much entertainment as you want.

    “Rocky 5″ Plot Summary

Reluctantly retired from boxing and back from riches to rags, Rocky takes on a new protege who betrays him; As the champ’s son must adjust to his family’s new life after bankruptcy. add synopsis

    Surprisingly good.

I thought Rocky V was supposed to be bad?! No no no! It is certainly different from the other 4 in that this time Rocky is retired and is working at Mickey’s gym which he now owns…and looking after his son. Great, right? A father-son movie. But the wonderful thing is, it isn’t drawn out with boring scenes of bonding and what not. This movie made me more angry than Rocky IV even. I won’t say why for that would just ruin the fun part. This movie stays realistic to the character of Rocky, but this time it is more about his relationship not with himself but with the people around him. This movie is fun.

    8/10.
