“The Phantom of the Opera” Movie Review

“The Phantom of the Opera” Plot Summary

A disfigured musical genius, hidden away in the Paris Opera House, terrorizes the opera company for the unwitting benefit of a young protegee whom he trains and loves.

A fantastic experience!

I have seen the movie, Phantom of the Opera, five times, a phenomenon never experienced with any other movie in my life. The movie has such depth and rich details, making it is worthy of spending the time and money to see it five times. Please spare me any more negative comments about Gerard Butler’s performance! I have seen the play in New York and in a regional theater. Of all performances I have seen, Gerard Butler’s portrayal of the Phantom is the finest, most sensitive, and most provocative. His singing is full of emotion, making his character believable and powerful. I would like to see Gerard Butler get some recognition for his performance, because he lifts the character of the Phantom far beyond what it has been in the past. He was perfect for the role, and his acting and singing should be recognized as one of the best performances on the screen this year! Emmy would not have been as great as she was without the performance provided by Gerard Butler. I want to thank Gerard Butler for taking me out of the everyday details of living into a world of ‘music of the night.’ Speak out for Gerard Butler’s receiving recogniton for his truly inspiring performance as the Phantom!

    Great romance and adventure

I remember of all the summer movies of 1998 (Armageddon, Deep Impact, Lethal Weapon IV etc.), I enjoyed this one the most. Sure a few liberties with plausibility might have been taken but the overall experience was very enjoyable. There was a sense of pioneering, honor, romance, and loyalty about the characters that made the viewing experience all the more immersive. Director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Vertical Limit) staged some exciting action sequences and was lucky to have a talented cast to make considerably more out of what could have been stock characters. Oh, and Banderas (in his best Hollywood role) and Zeta-Jones have great chemistry, a fact that is especially notable in their memorable dance together. All in all, very good escapist entertainment, 9/10.

    “Deja Vu” Plot Summary

An ATF agent travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered, falling in love with her during the process.

Washington and Brokheimer, a winning combination

Deja Vu is a high-action, crime-drama, sci-fi, thriller which is exactly what you would expect from Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of such action-adventures as ‘Con Air,’ ‘Enemy of the State,’ ‘National Treasure,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ and another Denzel Washington favorite, ‘Remember the Titans.’ The story opens with an explosion on board a New Orleans Ferry, and takes the audience back through an unfolding of events that leads up to the tragic scene. Even the most modern technology hasn’t gone as far as the storyline takes us. The premise is thrilling and the implications stimulate the imagination. For example; ‘how would altering the past impact people and events of the present?’ The acting is superb, with Denzel Washington and Paula Patton as romantic leads. James Caviezel does an extraordinary job as the villain, which is a departure from his role as Jesus in ‘The Passion of the Christ.’ There is plenty of action and some of it violent. Be prepared to see a few corpses like those on television’s ‘CSI’ or ‘Crossing Jordon.’ There are gun fights, but with a minimum of blood. While the movie is certainly intense, much of the severe action is implicit and takes place off camera. For an action packed, PG-13 movie, I was particularly impressed with the limited amount of rough language. I imagine with Denzel and James in the cast, there was an effort to keep it ‘clean.’ This is one of the few remaining Touchstone Pictures releases. Parent company, Walt Disney Studios is committed to producing action movies that appeal to a wider family audience. We’re awarding ‘Deja Vu’ the Dove Family-Approved Seal at for audience members over age 12.(www.dove.org) Parents should look over the violent content issues before deciding whether to bring tweens along.

    “Kate and Leopold” Plot Summary

Kate and her actor brother live in N.Y. in the 21st Century. Her ex-boy friend, Stuart, lives above…

Typical Romantic Comedy With A Twist Of Time Travelling

‘Kate and Leopald’ is a typical romantic comedy, only this time one of the protagonists travels from the 30s (?) to modern day New York. It’s clear that one shouldn’t expect anything more than laughter and a few mushy moments of love from this film and that is the case. If one watches it with lower expectations, it can be quite enjoyable. I liked the Hugh Jackman – Meg Ryan pairing. They both share the required chemistry and provide some of the nicer moments. Ryan plays her usual romcom city lass persona (and I haven’t tired myself from seeing her in such roles…yet but I now prefer to see her in different genres ). Hugh Jackman has a knack for comedy and he should do more such films if given a more intelligent script. Breckin Meyer and Liev Schreiber are great. To further prevent yourself from getting irritated, quit analyzing the film as there are several plot holes and some situations seem chopped. You can ask lots of question like how Leopold adapts to modern New York so quickly or how would an ultra-modern Kate (who’s never travelled) make it in 30’s (?) England (?) So one could enjoy it a little if they suspend their beliefs. even so, the ending seems a little too abrupt (predictable as it is). In spite of the flaws, there are the few nice moments and the few funny moments that don’t make it all that bad.

“Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” Plot Summary

A bachelor is haunted by the ghosts of his past girlfriends at his younger brother’s wedding.

    Not a bad movie.

Not a bad movie, but I have to watch it another time. I thinks a second viewing will give me a better opinion. The story is a bit weak but Mat is a good actor and makes the film better. Mike D as uncle Wayne adds much comic relief. We see that Uncle Wayne should have never brought up kids, and this is the thesis which drives the story. I would wait and rent the movie or Video on demand it. The movie is not for kids. I would give Ghosts of girlfriends past a six out of ten. Maybe, I would like the movie on a second viewing. I found the characters a little to sleazy for my liking. There was not very likable character in this film.

“The Devil Wears Prada” Plot Summary

A naive young woman comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly.

    Loved it!

I thought the movie was just too cute.. If you’ve read the book, you won’t be disappointed! It’s the story of a young girl who moves to NYC to become a journalist but finds herself working as an assistant for a top notch fashion magazine, which is way out of her style league. The girl is a go-getter so she does what she has to do to make it work and ends up becoming the right hand (wo)man to the editor and chief changing her life (for better or worse) forever. The movie is definitely a feel-good and has you leaving the theater with a smile and a bit more confidence in your walk. I absolutely recommend it and apologize for not giving more details, but it’s too good and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone! Also, for you guys… a lot of males were at the special showing and I heard a few say they surprisingly liked it (including one of my ‘macho’ guy friends) so if you’re looking for a nice date or a surprise for your loved one, it’s a good pick!

“He’s Just Not That Into You” Movie Review

“He’s Just Not That Into You” Plot Summary

The Baltimore-set movie of interconnecting story arcs deals with the challenges of reading or misreading human behavior.

    A good romantic comedy!

I happened to see this movie with my wife on Valentine’s day. I had entered the theater with low expectations and the only reason I was keen to watch this was because of Ben Affleck and host of other starts. However, as the movie progressed I found myself starting to like it. By the time it ended I was glad it didn’t turn out to be just another stupid romantic comedy made to pull the audiences with big stars

The story is not new yet the script is cleverly written as it juggles between couples all somehow intertwined/related with each other added with nice style of presenting it, thus keeping the viewer interested

The characters are from a wide range of people we encounter in real life. Alex, a guy who’s an ‘expert’ on relationships. He keeps himself away from emotional attachments, runs a bar and plays an agony aunt to Gigi; a lady desperately seeking a soul mate. Next is Beth, Gigi’s friend cum co-worker who is in a relationship with Neil since seven years and is very keen to tie the knot as opposed to Neil who loves Beth, is loyal to her but believes marriage is not an assurance of loyalty. This fact is proved by Ben; Neil’s friend who’s married to Janine (who also happens to be Gigi’s co-worker) for around 8 years, but falls for Anna. Next follows a typical chase of ‘A’ following ‘B’, ‘B’ following ‘C’, hidden meanings, signs, a little humor here and there and related stuff

Performances in this movie are fine by everyone if not exceptional. Ben Affleck and Drew Barrymore play their parts with ease. I liked Drew’s small part, especially where she expresses her frustration with today’s increasing use of technology which is leading people apart as opposed to bringing them together. Justin Long impresses with his performance and Scarlett Johansson is convincing as the temptress. The rest of the cast also do not disappoint as well

What I didn’t like about this movie was its length which I found to be a bit long. Also, the soundtrack of this movie is not very impressive, with a couple of exceptions. Finally it would’ve helped if it would have been more funny

I would recommend this fresh take on love, romance, loyalty, marriage and things similar, to anyone who is looking for a good romantic comedy.

One of the best comedies in a long time

I just got back from seeing this movie, and all I can say is two thumbs up. I left fully satisfied, money well spent on the price of a movie ticket. Lately the last few movies I saw were a bore including ‘The Goods’ staring Jeremy Piven. It seems now and days the directors are exaggerating comedic scenes to make people laugh if they can even accomplish that. They’ll repeat the same scenes over again because they have no other material to go off of. With Mike Judge’s new movie he does the complete opposite. He takes everyday scenarios of what most normal people go through and puts it in his movies. The viewers can relate to these and that’s what makes it hilarious. I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard from laughing. The actors picked for this movie did an outstanding job in their roles and came through to the end. Ben Affleck was the most surprising. Very pleased with his role, never thought of him as being a comedic actor but by far he did the best job. I definitely recommend this movie to any one in for a good laugh.

“(500) Days of Summer” Movie Review

“(500) Days of Summer” Plot Summary

An offbeat romantic comedy about a woman who doesn’t believe true love exists, and the young man who falls for her.

    Fresh & Original Romantic Comedy

This was an excellent romantic comedy, although many might not agree that it is either romantic or a comedy. I found myself laughing out loud at many of the scenes, but the laughs in the theater were few, and I think most people would label this a drama with streaks of black comedy

The driving force behind what makes this movie work (beside the script) is Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom Hansen, who carries the movie on the basis of his physical comedy and acting ability. He is the unrequited love interest in the film. JGL does have brief glimpses of true love with Summer (Zooey Deschanel) but it’s clear she’s not interested in anything permanent, just a good time. After his initial sexual encounter with Summer, JGL engaged in a choreographed dance routine of Hall & Oats ‘Your Making my Dreams Come True’, which should win JGL some type of award

Deschanel plays the role she usually plays, soulful & pretty free spirit. She played the character very well and the movie viewer could well understand her reticence to engage in a long term affair with Tom

These types of movies might leave some cold, but the ending turned out well

One additional bonus was Chloe Moritz, who played Tom’s younger teenage sister and Psycho-Analyst. She was great

A very good movie worth checking out. A near perfect date movie I might add.

    “Conspiracy Theory” Plot Summary

Jerry Fletcher is a man who sees conspiracies everywhere. But if you keep doing that long enough, sooner or later you’re going to get one right… add synopsis

breathtaking film, outstanding performances you only wish it won’t happen to you.

We have all thought that certain incidents that we can’t explain or the explanation we were given was inadequate, could be because of a greater secret plan or conspiracy, i.e Elvis death, Princess Diana’s accident or JFK’s assasination are some of those mysteries. Well in this film Mel Gibson sees a conspiracy everywhere and tries to pursuade Julia Roberts, that certain ‘incidents’ weren’t quite as they seem. His whole behaviour though tends to be slightly psychotic and therefore no-one really pays attention to him. Except for Julia, who’s not quite sure what to believe. Until the day that Mel is abducted by Patrick Stewart and then gets away, only to show up in the justice department where Julia works, all covered in blood. When Julia hears his story she starts wondering for the first time ‘…what if….’ The story becomes faster and faster and now Julia is a target too

Outstanding performances, great script, brilliant direction
