“First Blood” Movie Review

“Rambo: First Blood” Plot Summary

A mentally unstable Vietnam war vet, when abused with a small town’s police force, begins a one man war with it.

This is a Great Great Film!

It is sad that the image of Sly Stallone has become what it has become. He is mocked and used as a punchline by more than a few comics. As a result, many of his films are seen in a less than favorable light. This is very unfortunate, because in ‘First Blood,’ Sly made one of the great all-time action films. However, it is more than an action film, and if the final scene does not make your skin tingle, well, you are not human. In many ways, First Blood captures, more than any other film, the difficulty many returning Vietnam Vets had when they returned to America. They had so many friends and so much responsibility in Vietnam. Back in America, they were isolated and slow to readjust into the peacetime way of life. As a result, many were sent wandering about, or worse, heading to jail. First Blood tells the story of one American hero who you should not push too far. In John Rambo, you have a hero from a war nobody wanted to remember. However, the town that persecuted him will remember him, for a long time.

    “Edward Scissorhands” Movie Review

    “Edward Scissorhands” Plot Summary

An uncommonly gentle young man, who happens to have scissors for hands, falls in love with a beautiful teenage girl.

A must-see movie that you must see over and over again!

Edward Scissorhands is heart-warming, poetic, tragic, and comedic. An all-in-one movie. The story about a half-made man named Edward, who has the misfortune of having scissors for hands, (Johnny Depp) is one of those rare creatures who’s soul is bigger than his heart. His outward appearance (the black and white face, the hands) is out of place in the colorful suburban neighborhood he was brought into, but so is his innocence, vulnerability, and compassion. Depp’s performance as Edward is one of his most original yet! It’s not just the character, its the background of the movie that makes it good also. THe underscore is haunting, and beautiful, it can alone bring tears to your eyes. The makeup is outstanding, and the way the camera captures the character’s emotion and state of being is just breathtaking. And of course, without the help of Tim Burton’s Gothic style, the movie wouldn’t have the same effect

Kim Boggs (Winona Ryder) falls in love with this man, and their tragic romeo and juliet based romance makes the audience long for them to be together. You hate Jim (Anthony Michael Hall) for breaking them apart, and the rest of the community for that matter! All in all, the mixture of music, talent, and story plot make the movie a must-see that you must see over and over again! I give it a 9 out of 10

“X-Men: The Last Stand” Movie Review

    “X3″ Plot Summary

When a cure is found to treat mutations, lines are drawn amongst the X-Men, led by Professor Charles Xavier, and the Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organized under Xavier’s former ally, Magneto. add synopsis

a different direction than the previous 2 movies but fantastic none the less

I LOVED the movie… I’m from Scotland and it was released here 25th may 2006. I just couldn’t BELIEVE the effects that happened, but to be honest the story could have been much better. I don’t like how the phoenix story is explained as it is clearly made that jean becomes the phoenix at the end of xmen 1… (for you ppl that don’t know, it’s supposed to be when magneto’s statue of liberty/mutant creator/thing is supposed to turn everyone into mutants that the phoenix force is to come into contact with jean, therefor, that is how we see her gasping/shocked after it is destroyed), not that it has simply been a part of her for the whole time since Xavier and magneto met her as is explained in xmen 3! The story line in the movie jumps from character to character without much inter loop. It can jump from one scene to the other but you can still figure out where the story is going. One thing that really got me was the fact that in one scene, kitty pryde is an innocent student taking part in a classroom discussion with Xavier, and the next after his parting, she is suddenly a main character in a room with iceman, storm, wolverine and beast. Where is the gradual trust/bond that is made up through the previous 2 movies that makes the characters an ‘x-man’? It’s obviously missed with this movie and throws kitty straight into the limelight which was slightly disturbing (just like the fact that she takes it upon herself to save the mutant at the source of the ‘cure’).I would love to go into detail about the movie as so many things remain unanswered but I can’t spoil it for the other fans who are yet to see it. All I have to say is be prepared to laugh, cry and deal with the demise/rise of certain characters in this movie. They certainly came as a shock to me, even after reading rumours circling the web about their story in the movie, I certainly wasn’t prepared for the demise of a few characters and the hurt that was shown by the others. All in all, a FANTASTIC movie that has to be seen by not only x-men fans, but by all to complete this ’supposed trilogy’.The ending of the film (the effects and the powerful end to one of the characters knocked me for six completely!), and by all means, the clip that was shown to me after the end credits also took me by surprise. Like I said ’supposed trilogy’ could make it into a 4-some. I’ve heard certain rumours about different end credits shown to different ppl and the one I was shown featured Moria McTaggart and her patient…. If it’s true, I would like to see the ‘jean grey/phoenix’ ending to the movie, just so it can relate to the comics and build up a story for the 4th xmen movie… but then again.. I think the probability of that is slim to none

From seeing the ‘Moria McTaggart’ ending and hearing about the ‘Jean Grey ending’, I would have LOVED if both were shown and they were intersected to create the 4th x-men movie, but that all depends on how well this movie does at the box office and how well the fans receive it

I hope and dream for someone to announce X-Men 4 so the story can continue, but with certain characters gone, it may not be entirely possible. It’s up to us, the fan’s, to make X-Men 3 a success and for others to make X-Men 4 a possibility….. Here’s hoping we can continue the story and resurrect/reclaim the characters’ demise in X-Men 3 to be a powerful resurrection to success for a hopeful X-Men 4.

“Once Upon a Time in America” Movie Review

“Once Upon a Time in America” Plot Summary

A former Prohibition-era Jewish gangster returns to Brooklyn over 30 years later, where he once again must confront the ghosts and regrets of his old life.

    Excellent!

This movie is such a breath taker! It is not too long! Not if you get into it! If you are bored of the movie then yes, it will seem long. But this is the kind of movie that you have to get in to and pay attention to, to like. And all though the first maybe, thirty minutes aren’t as stimulating, the rest of the movie makes up for it. The beginning is kind of boring due to the fact that you have no idea what’s going on

The movie’s cast was chosen perfectly. The story has no flaws

There is not one detail that went unanswered. The music in the movie is so beautiful, it will haunt you! The rest of the day you’ll be singing it’s score! If you’re a soundtrack freak like me, then listen to the music for this movie! If you are looking for a movie that has its ups and downs, highs and lows, then see ‘Once Upon a Time in America’!

“Gremlins 2: The New Batch” Movie Review

    “Gremlins 2″ Plot Summary

The Gremlins are back, and this time, they’ve taken total control over the building of a media mogul. add synopsis

One of my favorite films. ***** out of 5

This here is Joe Dante’s best film. It’s a delightful and absolutely charming dark comedy. I begged my mom to take me to see this back in 1990 and thankfully I can say I saw this on the big screen

Years later when I watch it, I can catch all of the little references and nods to other great films of the past. The Warner Brothers Looney Tune cartoons have obviously made an impact on the directorial style of Joe Dante. What’s great is the combination of this type of humor blended with these devious little monsters wrecking havoc in the Clamp Building. Speaking of Clamp, John Glover was excellent as Daniel Clamp (a parody of Donald Trump). He’s absolutely hilarious! There are many terrific special effects and sequences in the film. It’s hard to tell you which scene is my favorite because I adore every moment of the film. I will say one of the scenes that sticks out for me is when the Bat Gremlin flies out into New York City by day. I just love those excellent shots of him flying through the sky. Of course, the Brain Gremlin and the ‘New York, New York’ number is fantastic as well. ‘Is eeeverybody heere?’ And who could forget when the Gremlins got their revenge for Leonard Maltin’s lambasting of the first Gremlins movie? All this is accompanied by a fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score (which happens to be one of my favorites of his as well). The collaboration between Goldsmith and Dante isn’t unlike that of Hitchcock and Herrmann or Spielberg and Williams

The film abounds with dark jollity and watching it you can tell that the filmmakers had a fun time making the picture. To include the audience as part of the goings on, is a real treat

Out of all the thousands of films I have seen, none have been or ever will be more entertaining than Gremlins 2.

    I LOVE it.

    “Dead Poets Society” Movie Review

    “Dead Poets Society” Plot Summary

English professor John Keating inspires his students to a love of poetry and to seize the day.

one of the most amazing and uplifting movie experiences that I had ever had

Dead Poets Society is hands down one of the most powerful and upfliting movies that I have seen-and trust me I have seen many powerful movies. This is one of Robin Williams finest performances-I do believe he should have been at least nominated for best actor and either the guy who plays Neil or Ethan Hawk should have been nominated for best supporting actor

The frindships that are forged in the school are genuine and believable and the people are those that you can relate to. I myself can relate to Todd, shy and a bit insecure of who he is. John Keating-played by Robin Williams-is a teacher who believes in more then just teaching about whats in the books, he believes in teaching about *life* and seazing the day. This movie shows how important it is to live each day to your fullest and to follow your dreams. I have seen many powerful films, and Dead Poets Society is one of the most powerful films I have ever seen. It captures the essance of what a film should to do a person. It shows a different view of life and makes you question things. It brings tears in your eyes as well as laughter. Even though I get emotional during films very rarly do I cry in them, but I did cry during the end of the movie with what happened to Neil and Keating. The ending to this day had a powerful effect on me and not many movies has an effect on you to the point where you get emotional and uplifted just thinking about the movie. It is a movie where you would watch many times and each time find something new with it. It is by far one of the most amazing and uplifting movie experiences that I have ever had.

    “Whole 9 Yards” Plot Summary

Nick is a struggling dentist in Canada. A new neighbor moves in, and he discovers that it is Jimmy “The Tulip” Teduski. His wife convinces him to go to Chicago and inform the mob boss who wants Jimmy dead.

    The Best!!!

This is one (if not the one) of my favorite movies.

I just loved it, it has an excellent plot, perfect acting from most of the actors, specially Matthew Perry… and it’s just great when you can find a movie nowadays where you can’t predict the ending cause everything is possible to happen.

    It’s very funny

    It’s enjoyable

It’s a pleasure to watch, alone or even better with friends

You’re gonna be in for a real treat…

Although, if you like this one, don’t get your hopes up too high… Cause the second one ‘The Whole Ten Yards’, is faaaaaar from this good.

Hope you like this movie as much as I did

    “Happy Feet” Movie Review

    “Happy Feet” Plot Summary

Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!

    Breathtaking and Beautiful

Happy Feet begins by introducing us to an achingly beautiful world and then takes us on an extraordinary hero’s journey filled with laughter, tears, and unconditional love. It is a rare modern epic that goes far beyond the scope of most recent movies, family or otherwise, with amazing visuals, wonderful music, and simple but meaningful themes. Be warned: you might actually find yourself responding to this film on an emotional level that could be a little embarrassing. You might leave dancing- or simply breathless

The film weaves the fantasy of a musical world inhabited by penguins, a poignant and beautiful dream in which each emperor penguin searches for love by singing a unique ‘heartsong’. Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood) is hatched into this world as one very special individual. Unlike the others of his kind, Mumble seems to be without any singing ability at all. Instead he is compelled to express what lives in his heart through an incredible gift for tap dancing (granted to the character by the great Savion Glover through motion capture). Ever positive despite rejection from his community, sweet Mumble is caught up in a remarkably deep adventure story that grapples with concepts of identity, love, and tolerance while instilling a basic sense of environmentalism

The enormity of this story is quite amazing. The brilliant George Miller (creator of diverse and artful films from Mad Max to Babe) succeeds in creating what may be one of the most lovable characters ever, and then drives him to the edge of hell and back. Drawn along in Mumble’s wake, we often laugh and sometimes cry with the character as he stumbles into a group of loyal friends (two of which are voiced fantastically by Robin Williams), showers his soul mate with unconditional love, and ultimately seeks out answers to environmental issues that are far bigger than one little penguin. Nothing, though, could be bigger than Mumble’s heart. Unless you are made of stone, you will fall in love with this character, and you’ll be cheering him along for every minute of his struggles

As you come to love Mumble, you will be exposed to elegant themes that are so universal they serve as a kind of mirror. You’ll see some of yourself or someone you love in his struggle to prove that being different can be wonderful. You’ll remember past feelings and childhood fantasies as he shows that love can be worth absolutely everything. And you’ll probably feel at least a little guilty to be a human as you remember the profound and sometimes terrible impact we can have on the many wonderful creatures that surround us. Fortunately there is a good chance that you will also come out feeling empowered to make the world a little better

All in all, the experience is breathtaking.
