“Frost/Nixon” Movie Review

“Frost/Nixon” Plot Summary

A dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon.

Absolutely Brilliant

As a teenager in Australia when Nixon resigned, I didn’t really understand the impact of his actions at the time. It’s only later that I’ve come to believe in his betrayal not just of American politics but of all democracies that have the same fundamental beliefs

So I went to see this film with some anticipation and was not disappointed. If Ron Howard was not considered a great director before, then surely he must be after this. The greatest problem with filming stage plays is overcoming the sense of ’staticness’. But Howard’s superb use of different camera techniques which allow both a sense of movement but do not distract from the stunning acting performances

Whilst Frank Langella is quite rightly getting a lot of attention for his remarkable performance (he manages to humanise Nixon, a feat I would have thought impossible), do not dismiss Michael Sheen’s mesmerising effort as David Frost. Both men inhabit their characters, not just play them

The support cast is excellent; Kevin Bacon reminds me of Eastwood at times and they are the best roles Oliver Platt and Sam Rockwell have had in a while

A masterpiece.

“Eagle Eye” Movie Review

“Eagle Eye” Plot Summary

Jerry and Rachel are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations, using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move.

I Liked It

Steven Spielburg is just hitting out blockbusters 3 times a year at least at the moment and this outing is definitely not different. The film is exciting, well acted and has been well thought out and directed

The film is about a slacker who gets drawn into a government scandal by a mysterious voice on a cell phone along with the mother of a young child who is performing at the white house and they eventual find themselves running from not only the machine, but the whole country of America as well. This leads to a very good movie I would definitely recommend to any movie goer

Anyway, Shia Labeouf is very good in this film and helps hold it together with Billy Bob Thornten, who, I must admit actually did a good job in this film

Overall, I think this film is a good watch and a good movie to watch with friends. It really does show that Steve is one of the masters of Hollywood. I rate it 74%

    “MIB 2″ Plot Summary

Agent J needs help so he is sent to find Agent K and restore his memory.

    Good

Nice, really nice. It has an origin mostly comic but has good special effects. It was inevitable to see negative comments here, is the norm. Cmq a good movie, the environments are good actors suited to the type of film. He certainly part ironic, comic, the environments are very well and the result can be considered as satisfactory. It is a shame that here there are elements that bring more than 7 film ridiculous as the army of darkness and films such as van helsing a miserable 5. Shame! I disagree with the standards is happening here, I am not convinced. In some cases there are good reviews, in other see that there are some ‘too many prejudices against certain films!

    “Men in Black” Movie Review

    “MIB” Plot Summary

Two men who keep an eye on aliens in New York City must try to save the world after the aliens threaten to blow it up.

    Strange but it works

Fast paced and never too serious you cannot help but feel this is what cinema should be. Men in Black is certainly not just for the Sci Fi fans. It is a simple enough idea; a secret organisation manages the numerous aliens living on earth, unbeknown to the general public. The success lies in the all in a days work feel about the Men’s dealing with the aliens, wearing suits to save the planet. It is also refreshing to see writers didn’t try too hard. The top secrecy, for example, is maintained by flashing memory erasers. The story provides a mission but really the whole thing is just a lot of fun. Will Smith is excellent and strangely believable in his role. Together with Tommy Lee Jones’ drips of sarcasm and impervious manner the interplay between Agents K and J works brilliantly. Coupled with a weird and wonderful selection of aliens characters makes for compelling viewing.

“Beauty and the Beast” Movie Review

“Beauty and the Beast” Plot Summary

Belle, whose father Maurice is imprisoned by the Beast (really an enchanted Prince), offers herself instead and finds the prince inside the Beast.

The most beautiful love story ever told.

” The Beauty and The Beast” is one of the greatest stories ever told and one of the best movies from Disney that I watched in my life. I always identified myself with Belle, the girl who does not belong the place where she is lives and also with a big taste of reading lots of books. Our story takes part in France in 18 century, and our main character Belle is the prettiest girl in the city she lives, being the object of the affection and interest of Gaston, an arrogant man that has the sympathy of the people of the region.(And also considered a big catch for the girls of the city)But Belle is not interested in him and always imagined her life different from the domestic life people always imagine for her

One day, Belle’s father, an inventor, was going to sell one of his inventions and lost his ways, being attacked by wild animals and entering in a big dark mansion apparently without a owner. He stays there for a time, but soon the Beast comes up and attacks him, making him a prisoner in his castle

Belle stays worried and goes after her father in the mansion and there she sees the violent and awful beast who locked her father. She then makes a deal: Belle agrees to stay in the dark castle with the horrible beast in return to her father’s freedom. But with the time, Belle is going to discover all the magic that is beyond the castle, including the talking objects and even a nice side that the Beast has

This story is very inspiring and very beautiful! =)

    “Twins” Movie Review

    “Twins” Plot Summary

A physically perfect, but innocent, man goes in search of his twin brother, who is a short small-time crook. add synopsis

Great dialogue and a thoughtful, moving story

The beginning of Twins has a surreal tone to it it. This caring voice-over contrasts so much with the sinister look of the lab, and the music gives a much sadder feel to what is already present. I think the idea of putting two physically opposite actors together and deciding to make them twins works in this film, especially considering that the plot tells us they have genetically modified origins. Julius’ odd upbringing – isolated on an island – and its after-effects are obvious very early on. He asks for a manual when asked to drive a car somewhere. You get a sense that everything is so novel to Julius – even eating an ice cream (a shot which is beautifully lit). As you wouldn’t, he hasn’t the first clue about romance. Vincent, of course, is totally opposite, and you know this in just a few scenes. The brothers’ scenes are often juxtaposed to show this. I especially like Vincent’s expression in the ‘third rule in a crisis’ scene

The bionic hand when Julius’ briefcase is nearly stolen is inspired – he pulls up his would-be muggers on such things as wearing motorcycle helmets. The fire extinguisher scene is so wonderful in showing how shady Vincent is and how good Julius is – Julius doesn’t even hate Vincent when he rejects him. In fact, even their names seem to suit the characters. The relationship between the brothers is interesting. Vincent suddenly shows a united front with Julius, strangely enough when Julius deals with someone who is hounding his brother. Although they are twins, Julius acts like a much older brother as they learn more about their past

Some of the dialogue in Twins is brilliant. ‘Oh, I like nuked food!’ is such a great line from Julius, and Vincent’s ‘I liberated this from my file at the orphanage’ says so much about his personality in just a few words. There’s also a wonderful scene after the fight in the nightclub where the line-dancers carry on dancing around the unconscious henchmen.

“Ice Age: The Meltdown” Movie Review

    “Ice Age 2″ Plot Summary

Diego, Manny and Sid return in this sequel to the hit Ice Age. This time around the Ice Age is over and is starting to melt, which will destroy their valley. So they must unite and warn everyone about the situation. add synopsis

Wow! A sequel that’s better than the original!!

My family and I absolutely LOVED this movie!! We thought it achieved the rare accomplishment of being better than its original. As my husband says, ‘They stole from everyone.’ Without spoiling the movie, let me just say there were bits from Broadway musicals, from other movies (some new, some classics), and from everything in between. The vultures’ musical number is the one that has gotten stuck in my head. That’s as far as I’ll go with that one

Ice Age 2 really racked up the talent. Numerous times we would lean over and whisper ‘I know that voice! Who IS that?’ I was truly surprised to find out that one of them was Jay Leno

Although the underlying message of both Ice Age movies is death, doom, and destruction, I thought overall it was a very light-hearted movie with lots of hope, love, and friendship. The photo-quality animation of the rushing water, Scrat’s fur blowing in the breeze, and many other tiny details was no less than breathtakingly impressive

While it may be just a bit much for the smallest of children, I whole-heartedly recommend this movie to everyone else, young and old alike. You don’t have to have kids or be a kid to love this one, just enjoy laughing.

    “My Sister’s Keeper” Plot Summary

Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive.

    Beautiful

This movie was brilliant. I saw it the other night and right from the beginning I started to cry and throughout the movie was tear after tear after tear. Basically it’s about a girl that has cancer and how the family is dramatically moved by it. Anna was born for one reason to save her sister by giving Kate what she needs, she is a donor baby. But Anna feels that the more she gives to her sister she won’t be able to live her own life so she wants to be medically emancipated from her parents. In the end there’s a twist which makes it even more heartbreaking. Anyone who’s reading this should go see My Sisters Keeper I was really moved by the movie and only three words could describe it Beautiful, Amazing, and a real Tear Jerker… I have never cried so much but I promise… you will enjoy it.

“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” Plot Summary

A deformed bellringer must assert his independence from a vicious government minister in order to help his friend, a gypsy dancing girl. add synopsis

The Best Film I’ve Ever Seen

Not too long ago, my sister watched Aladdin a lot. I thought the music was pretty good, and I wanted to check out more music by Alan Menken. I found Hunchback. I vaguely recalled scenes I had seen when I saw it at the theater (I was 5 or 6 then), so I wanted to remember what exactly happened in it. I listened to some of the music from it, and I was hooked. ‘Bells of Notre Dame’ and ‘Topsy Turvy’ continually play in my head (and I continually play them on the piano).

I honestly think this movie is the best film I have ever seen. The music is fantastic, the animation is great, and the story is touching and heartwarming. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good film.

    “The Incredible Hulk” Movie Review

    “Hulk 2″ Plot Summary

Dr. Bruce Banner, thanks to a gamma ray experiment gone wrong, transforms into a giant green-skinned hulk whenever his pulse rate gets too high. Meanwhile, a soldier uses the same technology to become an evil version of the original.

Truly Incredible… extraordinary in every way!

What a summer Marvel is having! Iron Man hitting big was great but Incredible Hulk may even top it. I caught a pre-screening and I can assure everyone that the Hulk delivers more action and maybe more fun. If you are concerned that this film is another Ang Lee type misfire, don’t be. It’s about 100 times better then the version of five years ago. Unlike the Ang Lee effort, it’s presented in a way that can be savored. The pacing is perfect and the action is relentlessly awesome. What’s amazing is that they managed to play both sides perfectly. It’s far deeper then I would’ve thought given the subject matter. Each frame is packed with action, emotion, drama or intensity. I was expecting to see a crazy green giant destroying the landscape and fighting another crazy green monster for two hours. I was shocked at the complexity of this movie. Given Edward Norton’s involvement, I don’t know why I’m so surprised. The action is certainly there but the tone is perfect, a mix of the TV flavor with all the action from the comic books. Hulk does indeed ’smash’ but it’s more then just dumb action with no plot. It truly is an all around exceptional film. Also, I’m amazed at how far the CGI came since the first teaser trailer. This remarkable CGI works very well and it offers the chance to savor a complete movie going experience without being pulled out of the film. This trimmed downed Hulk looks perfect and his opponent is truly frightening. The final battle between the two will go down in movie history as one of the greatest fights of all-time. Overall, a summer movie that’s superior to everything else that I’ve seen this year, with the possible exception of Iron Man. Again, who would’ve thought that Marvel would be a perfect two for two this summer? Speaking of Iron Man (*Beware SPOILER*) Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) does indeed show up at the end of the film(they cut from Banner and that green eyed smile we’ve all seen in the TV ads right to the Stark scene and the hairs on your neck will stand up)
