    “The Stepford Wives” Movie Review

    “The Stepford Wives” Plot Summary

What does it take to become a Stepford wife, a woman perfect beyond belief? Ask the Stepford husbands, who’ve created this high-tech terrifying little town, in a very modern comedy-thriller.

    Colorful and comical remake.

Frank Oz’s remake of the classic 1975 thriller may be critically bashed by some, but is actually a very entertaining re-envisioning

Fired business woman moves to a small Conneticut village with her family, where she learns that the local housewives are acting very strangely

The Stepford Wives 2004 is one of the most cleverly done remakes around. Rather than try to capture the expectations of the original film, this remake looks at the already-familiar story in a whole new light as a dark comedy. Even more effective is the fact that this is a truly funny and well-written dark comedy! The direction is lavishly good, the film has some wonderful sets, a great music score, and a very stylish credit sequence

The great cast is yet another highlight. Lovely Nicole Kidman does an excellent performance as usual. While supporting cast Broderick, Midler, Close, Walken, and Bart make for some nicely colorful characters

Just why so many people dislike this film I don’t know, but it’s a remake that is worth being viewed before being judged. Some have come to like this version better than the original film.*** 1/2 out of ****

“Bringing Out the Dead” Movie Review

“Bringing Out the Dead” Plot Summary

Frank Pierce is a paramedic working Gotham’s Hell’s Kitchen. He’s become burned out and haunted by visions of the people he’s tried to save. add synopsis

Good once it finds its rhythm

After reading the novel by Joe Connelly this movie is based on(by the way, the title is a reference to MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL), it seemed a perfect fit for director Martin Scorsese, writer Paul Schraeder, and star Nicolas Cage. After all, this is the mean streets of New York, this is about trying to find salvation and redemption in the pits of despair, and it features a character on the edge. But when things start out, I was disappointed. It seems like all three of them, Scorsese, Schraeder, and Cage, were straining to get the effect of the novel, and it felt disjointed. The narration by Cage seems to be covering up for what’s not being shown, which always means trouble

In lesser hands, this might have been a problem. However, Scorsese has the craft to match his passion, and he soon finds the rhythm. The narration is used less and less as the movie goes on, and Cage is gradually able to show his grief, rather than just talk about it. We still don’t feel the impact of the story as much as we do in the novel, but we do feel something, thanks to Cage and Patricia Arquette(as the daughter of a patient he saves). Once it gets going, the black humor, courtesy of Ving Rhames and Tom Sizemore as fellow paramedics and Scorsese and Queen Latifah as dispatchers, helps fuel the picture as well. This isn’t quite as good as Scorsese’s other New York stories, but it is a worthy addition to his canon.

“Scent of a Woman” Plot Summary

A prep school student needing money agrees to “babysit” a blind man, but the job is not at all what he anticipated. add synopsis

Good story, brilliant acting, what more do you want?

This movie once again proves that Pacino is one of the greatest actors of our time and that we all should be very glad he choose to portray Colonel Frank Slade in ‘Scent of a woman’, no one else could have done it. The story of ‘Scent of a woman’ stands and falls with Pacino’s acting and the bringing alive of his character. It’s touching and makes you smile and leaves you behind with the feeling that you’ve just have had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Frank Slade, a crazy but interesting man. Chris O’Donnell does what he has to do, he gives Pacino the opportunity to shine and triggers the story. The interaction between him and Pacino does the job and provides us with great lines. Overall a great movie. I give this one a 8 out of 10.
