    “Dogma” Movie Review

    “Dogma” Plot Summary

An abortion clinic worker with a special heritage is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loophole and re-enter Heaven.

Great film, not up to the standard of Smith’s previous work

Those of you who are fans of Kevin Smith’s previous works (Clerks, Mallrats & Chasing Amy)may find this area familiar in some parts and unnerving and perhaps even commercial by comparison. Dogma sees fallen angels Bartleby and Loki (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon)attempting to make their way back into heaven via a newly instituted catholic dogma. The problem with this lies in the fact that if they are successful, they would have overturned a ruling by God, hence God is always right and if proven wrong would result in the undoing of existence. The familiar presence of Jay and Silent Bob is comforting and ensures that some of the essence Smith’s earlier work stays put, however at times this film dissents into areas that seem out of Smith’s depth. There are some surprisingly touching moments which implies that Smith gave a great deal of thought, similar to that of Chasing Amy. In general it is a great all round cast, (Linda Fiorentino,Chris Rock, Alan Rickman) and it is obvious that whilst writing this Smith had his tongue firmly in cheek.

    “Pretty Woman” Movie Review

    “Pretty Woman” Plot Summary

A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets… only to fall in love.

    A winning romantic comedy.

Garry Marshall may not be the most interesting director working in Hollywood, but his movies are definitely entertaining, and in that sense he is successful. Perhaps his two greatest films, which also are the ones he’ll most likely be remembered for, are ‘Beaches’ and ‘Pretty Woman’. One of the most commercially successful (almost $500m worldwide!!) romantic comedies of all time,’Pretty Woman’ is a charming modern day fairy tale that works largely in part to the phenomenal on-screen chemistry between its two stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. In an Academy Award nominated performance as Vivian Ward, Julia Roberts truly shines. Her screen presence is nothing short of radiating, not to mention she’s a highly skilled comedic actress. The film also owes a lot to its equally strong supporting performances from Jason Alexander, Laura San Giacomo and Hector Elizondo. All cliches aside, it’s highly enjoyable and stands up superbly even after repeated viewings, a definite 10/10.

“AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem” Movie Review

    “AVPR” Plot Summary

Warring alien and predator races descend on a small town, where unsuspecting residents must band together for any chance of survival.

    Well I loved it

Now now people, when the first AVP came out we all slagged it for being a lame PG and we all screamed for some violence and some gore… well then, that is what we got and you still complain??!! It is what it claims to be all out war between the aliens and the predator. who cares if we don’t really get to know any of the human characters and we don’t care if they live or die the film isn’t really about them (the clue is in the title). yes it is dark but if you really can’t see whats going on then you either need glasses or a better TV. this film was what i hoped it would be and what i wanted from the first one. people need to get over the fact that this is not Cameron’s Aliens vs John McTiernan’s Predator. it was never going to be that but for what it is, a film about a predator killing lots of aliens and a load of humans caught in the middle, it is fantastic.

    “Equilibrium” Plot Summary

In a Fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system.

Fascinating Action/Sci-Fi Film!, That’s Very Engrossing, And Always Surprising!, With An Amazing Performance From Christian Bale!

This is a fascinating Action/Sci-Fi film that’s very engrossing, and always surprising, with an amazing performance from Christian Bale!. All the characters are awesome, and the story is fantastic and constantly unpredictable, plus Christian Bale is simply amazing in this!. It’s a little slow to get going, but pretty soon after wards i really got into the story, and while i didn’t get all that was going at certain points i was still fascinated all the same!, plus Taye Diggs was great as the villain, as was the other one!. The ending has a shocking twist, and it has some spectacular gun battles and fight scenes!, plus i wish Sean Bean didn’t have to get killed of so soon. The character development is awesome!, and i thought the plot while complicated was really excellent!, plus some scenes gave me the chills

There were some really shocking scenes, and the film had a disturbing feel to it, plus i found it quite creative!. This is a fascinating Action/Sci-Fi film, that’s very engrossing and always surprising, with an amazing performance from Christian Bale!, and i say it’s a must see for everyone!. The Direction is excellent!.Kurt Wimmer does an excellent job here, with stunning camera work, fantastic angles, wonderful slow mo shots, and lots of other great creative shots as well!. The Acting is wonderful!. Christian Bale is AMAZING as always, and is amazing here, he is incredibly tense, extremely likable, always unpredictable, had a very mysterious character, carried the film, had a lot of character, and you can’t take your eyes off him when he’s on screen, and amazing performance indeed! (Bale Rules!!). Taye Diggs is great here as one of the villains, and while i wanted to slap that smile off his face at times, he was quite effective, for the most part, i just wished he had more screen time. Emily Watson is great here, and can do these roles in her sleep!,i liked her lots. Sean Bean sadly only has a cameo, but it’s a damn cool one at that! (Bean Rules!). Rest of the cast do fine. Overall a must see for everyone!. ****1/2 out of 5

“Friday the 13th Part III” Plot Summary

Having escaped in the last episode, Jason is back, hockey mask and all, to continue his murderous rampage across Crystal Lake.

    Three-dimensional Jason!

The last of the scary ones, ‘Friday the 13th Part 3: 3D’ is one of the best in the series. The plot does have some holes in it and sometimes the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but the interesting component of the film is its use of 3-D. Don’t let the 3-D aspect fool you into thinking the movie is bad (as in ‘Jaws 3-D’ & ‘Amityville 3-D’). The film is great; as far as these type of slasher flicks go. Highly recommended.

    “Gone Baby Gone” Movie Review

    “Gone Baby Gone” Plot Summary

Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally. Based on the Dennis Lehane novel.

See it before it’s gone, baby, gone!

Ben Affleck’s impressive directorial debut features some remarkably naturalistic performances, a genuine sense of locale, and an atmosphere of despair and hopelessness that becomes a major antagonist. An honestly downbeat film, it portrays a mode of existence where nothing is black or white, and it is that gray area that the film explores so effectively even if I find the story from Dennis Leheane’s novel to be a bit far-fetched and convoluted. More than The Departed, Mystic River, and Peter Yates’ The Friends of Eddie Coyle, Gone, Baby, Gone understands the inter-relationship among cops, criminals, and a neighborhood as they search for a missing child. Though the boyish Casey Affleck is arguably miscast as Patrick, a character who was more mature in the novel, his performance cannot be faulted and by the end he has won us over. The last scene is particularly resonant. Though well-known actors such as Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman are expectedly good, it is the performances of an unknown supporting cast that gives the film a disturbing authenticity. And Amy Ryan as the child’s mother gives a trenchant performance. Director Affleck maintains an admirable tone of objectivity and compassion throughout, and he has made a film that is worthy of your time. Go!Baby!Go!

“Friday the 13th Part 2″ Movie Review

“Friday the 13th Part 2″ Plot Summary

Mrs. Voorhees is dead, and Camp Crystal Lake is shut down, but a camp next to the imfamous place is stalked by an unknown assailant. Is it Mrs. Voorhee’s son Jason who didn’t drown in the lake some 30 years before?

    My favorite of the series

    - It’s been five quiet years since a group of councilors were murdered at Camp Crystal Lake. But when a new group of councilors arrives to open a nearby camp, the killing starts all over again. Who’s behind the murders? The original Camp Crystal Lake Killer is dead. Could it be her son who was believed to have died in the lake years earlier? By the time someone figures out who the killer is, most everyone else is dead.- Friday the 13th Part 2 has always been my favorite installment in the series. I’ve always thought that Jason was more frightening before he found the hockey mask and became the unstoppable iconic killer zombie. This Jason is human and that makes him more real. And, to me, the horror factor is increased when the killer is based in reality. He’s a primitive being (not unsimilar to the inbred mountain men I recently wrote about in Wrong Turn) capable of extreme brutality, out to avenge the death of his mother.- Most of the movie is about what you would expect – grisly murders, an absence of logic, woeful dialogue, and iffy acting. Friday the 13th Part 2 also features just about every horror cliche that fans have come to expect in a teen slasher. When I saw this movie in 1981, a lot of what we consider teen slasher cliches were still being developed. Back then, a lot of this was still fairly new and fresh. And whether I should or not, I still see the movie the way I did in 1981.

    “The Astronaut’s Wife” Plot Summary

A pair of shuttle astronauts leave their spacecraft to repair a satellite. There’s an explosion. NASA loses contact for two minutes… add synopsis

    Quite good.

I actually enjoyed this film. Someone mentioned that it’s 95% setup and 5% payoff. Well, that’s what I liked about it. In fact, I could have done without the 5% payoff. We are told that *something* happened to the astronaut while he was in space. As long as this event is left unexplained, the audience is kept in the dark as to how the story will evolve. This is a blissful state of ignorance. It’s the same kind of Sci-Fi as ‘2001, A Space Odyssey’. Not in terms of the plot, but how the space is used solely to grasp the mystery and the incomprehensible and bring it to the screen. When it’s revealed what actually happened to the astronaut, the movie becomes weaker, but doesn’t fall apart completely.

Curtis, Lemmon and Monroe are fantastic in this film together. I think it’s their best comedy roles. The script must be one of the funniest ever written. A superb dialogue and not one boring scene in the whole film. This is the first Billy Wilder film I see, Now I will soon watch ‘The Apartment’.I understand why this is called one of the greatest comedy’s of all times. One of Schwarzeneggers best

After Terminator 1 this is Arnold Schwarzeneggers best movie. I can’t understand, why this is so underrated. I love the self-ironic in this film. This movie shows that Arnie is much more intelligent and humorous than a lot of people thought before. I gave it a rate of 9.
