    “Red Planet” Plot Summary

Astronauts search for solutions to save a dying Earth by searching on Mars, only to have the mission go terribly awry.

One of the Best Sci Fi movies Made this decade

I have tangled with over a dozen people who said this movie was trash.. and each and every one of the viewers 1. Didn’t see the movie. 2. Confused it with Tim Robbins’ AWFUL Mission to Mars

BOTH MOVIES CAME OUT AT THE SAME TIME.. THE SAME YEAR.. so please get them straight. This movie is fabulous with the zero-G fire aboard the ship and the chilling suffocation struggle which Sizemore brought to new levels of frail humanity. They choke to near death only to learn that Mars has an atmosphere. This isn’t the only discovery they make on this creative masterpiece, it seems you can learn a little bit about science by watching this film. Wow! And you thought that this was a no-brainer.uh uh.. Sizemore goes out with a blaze of glory in one of the most eerie suicides i’ve ever seen on screen. So if you think you’ve seen this movie.. double check it.

    “The Contract” Plot Summary

Ray Keene, a father who wants to redeem himself in the eyes of his son, is trying to bring Carden, a world-class assassin to justice… add synopsis

    Entertaining

When I saw the rating of this movie of 5.6 stars I thought that this had to be a very bad and boring film to have such a rate despite having very good actors (Freeman and Cusack), but after watching it I liked this film which I found entertaining

This movie gets what it tries to achieves which is just being a 96 minutes entertaining action film nothing else. I liked the performances specially the one of Morgan Freeman who looks so cool like the killer Carden, and I liked the comments of his character too, John Cusack is very good as the nice man who cares a lot about his son

Ray and his son go camping to the forest but their plan changes when they find the injured killer Carden over there, and they will have to take him to the police despite Cardens friends are looking for him …7 stars = good

    “City of Ember” Movie Review

    “City of Ember” Plot Summary

For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember’s once powerful generator is failing … and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker.

    Creative fantasy adventure

My 11 year old son and I enjoyed this movie very much, perhaps because neither of us has read the book. Visually it was a treat to visit Ember, a handmade city with no cars, creative clothing and houses and a community where everyone knows you. It just looked so interesting. The movie got off to a quick start, giving just enough back-story to get the mystery of the plot going. I think it is predictable from the beginning that the kids will find a way out, but how they piece together the clues and the specifics of their escape are unravelled in exciting bits and pieces. The suspense worked on two levels- will they find the way out before the City collapses- and will they find the way out before ‘the law’ stops them? While all the actors did a fine job, I particularly enjoyed Saoirse as Lina. And the girls who played Poppy were adorable. My son said the same thing as other reviewers about the end- he would have liked to have seen the whole town pouring out into the light.

“War of the Worlds” Movie Review

“War of the Worlds” Plot Summary

As Earth is invaded by alien tripod fighting machines, one family fights for survival.

A good take on the Wells story. Better than the 1953 classic in some ways

First – a quick rebuttal: The peanut butter sandwich which seemed to stick to the window impossibly. This was a very visually interesting scene. In fact, the scene was shot from inside the house, and Cruise was shot in reflection against the window – so there is no problem here other than the reviewer not thinking what they were seeing through

Now on to the review…This film follows Tom Cruise – playing a not-very-adult divorced father – and his two kids through the Wellsian version of The War of the Worlds. Despite the fact that the film focuses exclusively on the harrowing experiences of this somewhat dysfunctional family, in a very basic way it preserves the elements of the original novel. As with Wells’ book, a science savvy viewer will pick up on the biological plausibility of the main plot and realize the brilliance of Wells original points. Scientifically educated viewers will also recognize the geological impossibility of it. Neither of these facts should detract from the entertainment value of this interesting and exciting film. After all, it is a testament to Wells’ genius that a novel written nearly 100 years ago still holds our attention today, and is still regarded as an intelligent take on improbable events

An alien species, about which nothing is really known, has been planning to take over and terraform earth for millenia, or perhaps much longer. Using unknown technology, they manage to emplace operatives in enormous tripod machines equipped with horrendous weapons that basically carbonize any life forms they take aim at. The tripods had been implanted deep in the earth long before the advent of our species. There simply is no stopping the invasion. Cruise, whose character is not really built for heroism, digs deep into his soul to protect his children as they attempt to make it to Boston to reunite with his estranged wife and her new family

Before I discuss the technical merits of the film, and the lavish production values, I feel that I need to make a comment on Dakota Fanning. Ms. Fanning gives one of the best performances I have ever seen a sub-12 year old give in The War of the Worlds. She is a match for Cruise, and actually manages to steal several scenes from him. The acting in this film is uniformly good, but Fanning really stood out

Spielberg and his team make seemingly impossible film visions come alive in a uniquely well realized manner. War of the Worlds is one of the most visually stunning films I have seen in a long time. Though I would not call the special effects innovative, they are, more importantly, convincing and never over-done. The nearly first person story telling technique is both original and effective, and the non-heroism of Cruise’s character makes for a much more compelling plot than I expected to see. There are indeed some problems with believability, but let me ask – why would anybody go to this film expecting something more realistic than a fairy tale?Recommended for Wells fans, fans of the original 1953 adaptation, and action sci-fi fans. Mildly recommended to the average cinema-goer.

    “Top Gun” Movie Review

    “Top Gun” Plot Summary

The macho students of an elite US Flying school for advanced fighter pilots compete to be best in the class, and one romances the teacher.

    Fun, entertaining and unbelievable!

Most of the comments about this movie are more unbelievable than the picture itself. Some are saying it’s the greatest movie which is far from true. On the other side are the cinema snobs who won’t let themselves enjoy this motion picture. This movie may require much more ’suspension of disbelief ‘ than most but the fact that many are still enjoying it says plenty about its entertainment value.

    “Zoolander” Movie Review

    “Zoolander” Plot Summary

At the end of his career, a clueless fashion model is brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Zoolander – Colorful, Creative, Original and Thoughtful.

By the exaggerated tagline, ‘3% body fat, and 1% brain activity,’ I just knew that Zoolander was going to be smart and funny. And, it was. If you can rise above the literal visual interpretation to the gasoline pump fight, you’ll find it too, has an underlying educational, or at least, helpful message. The characterizations of good guy versus bad guy are whimsical, creative, colorful, and funny. Derek Zoolander, (Ben Stiller) is Ben’s wonderfully exaggerated version of the male model, one who is offering his best attempt to be ‘Balls Models’ 4th year in a row, model of the year. Sadly, he loses to Hansel, (Owen Wilson) a sweet blue, green, star eyed, soft lined, model. At the loss, quirky, carefree and complex, Derek questions his reflection in a puddle of water, ‘Who Am I?’ In search of an answer to his question, he returns home to the coal mines of New Jersey, where his generally reluctant father, Larry Zoolander ( John Voight) and what looks to be his two evidently, (one Judah Friedlander) inarticulate brothers, reside. But, it is Derek’s agent, Maury Ballstein (Jerry Stiller) who encourages him to return to New York, so that Derek can take on the assignment, as model for Mugato’s (Will Ferrell) ‘Derelicte,’ campaign. Maury is passionate and sincerely wants for his models to succeed, at making a living, in modeling. Mugato is obsessed with having Derek assassinate Malaysia’s prime minister, Hassan (Woodrow W. Asai), one with a fondness for fashion and vogue, and a desire to increase pay standards, in the production industry. Derek takes the job, but little does he know that Mugato’s black leathered assistant, Katinka, (Milla Jovovich) will be leading him into a day spa, that is more like a torture chamber, one designed to brainwash him into assassinating Malaysia’s leader. Matilada Jeffries, (Christine Taylor) a reporter for Time, assigned to reporting on fashion events, will soon find herself in the midst of discovering a personal life, originating from her professional one. And fortunately, Hansel, is more than a competitor to Derek, but a friend, who saves both Derek and the leader of Malaysia, from an untimely death

The entire script is so creatively and colorfully articulated and presented, that one cannot help but have just so much fun, or alternatively be filled with suspense, as to whether or not Mugato will have his way with Derek. David Duchovny’s scene, (mystery man on the cell phone), as scruffy bearded, eye glassed, and glass encased hand, J.P. Prewitt, at the cemetery, is really well done. In an interestingly woven monologue, he begins by explaining buried models’ pre-mature deaths, scenes that include butt cheeks and abs sculpted on gravestones. It’s very Tim ‘Robbinseque’ in mood and tone and very well performed

Zoolander was much more rich in plot, characterization, and development than I had expected, after hearing, that ‘it didn’t get great reviews.’ And the story still results in a very happy ending. Good wins over evil, and good guy hero gets girl. So who is Derek Zoolander? Answer: A really sweet guy, who is cute, funny, sensitive, articulate (although can’t say eulogy, and instead says ulogee, but just adds more to his cute and funny attributes), and one who, we gather, has a terrific girlfriend, and cool best friend, with whom he pursues one of his true life long passions, to open up a school for kids, ‘to read really good.’ Zoolander is absolutely a ‘hip’comedy for every audience member.

    “First Knight” Movie Review

    “First Knight” Plot Summary

Lancelot falls in love with Guinevere, who is due to be married to King Arthur. Meanwhile, a violent warlord tries to seize power from Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. add synopsis

    my favorite ending

In almost all other interpretations of this legend, Guenevere is seen as a woman who cannot choose between two young men that love her. In this movie, Arthur is portrayed as a very mature older man who knows he wants Guenevere as his wife but that she might choose him for the wrong reasons. He gives her protection of her lands without marriage and she refuses. He never loses his wisdom and never forgets his duties as king in face of his crazy private life. Lancelot is presented as a wandering young man who ‘knows when a woman wants him’ and cannot understand Guenevere’s refusal of him time and time again. However, he is not fickle, and has known true loss. His love for Guenevere is always constant. Guenevere is in turmoil but is never seen as flighty. She loves both men in different ways but does not know why. Instead of her having to betray either man completely, the production allows for one of her lovers to die and encourage Guenevere and the other lover to be together. I think this is a brilliant way to end the movie and one that allows all the characters complete fulfillment

This movie also simplifies the plot enough that the movie is not chopped and confusing or hours and hours long. I never have been able to understand Morgan and appreciate a different antagonist. I can see why this movie was not liked as it came out the same year as Braveheart and Rob Roy and wish the producers had not released for at least one year and it might have been better received.

    “Sgt. Bilko” Movie Review

    “Sergeant Bilko” Plot Summary

This movie is a remake of the hit series which starred, Phil Silvers as Sgt. Bilko. In this movie, Bilko… add synopsis

    I enjoyed it a lot

Steve Martin is larger than life in this very funny comedy. He plays the title character who is lazy, sleazy, clever and always one step ahead of everyone else he should be ahead of. He runs the motor pool like it would be run by someone from ‘Animal House’. They spend all their time gambling and sleeping it off

A new recruit (Darryl Mitchell, from ‘Galaxy Quest’ and ‘10 Things I Hate About You) does not understand his unprofessionalism as a military man so in some ways Darryl acts as the audience. Bilko has a girlfriend who is onto him but loves him in spite of herself. He constantly leaves her at the altar (‘I’m the only woman I know whose wedding dress is showing wear’) but its a game they play more than anything. Plot takes off when Phil Hartman shows up. He’s an old adversary of Bilko and wants to even an old score. He demands that Bilko and his men shape up and even starts romancing Bilko’s girlfriend, which of course drives Bilko crazy. Glenne Headley is perfectly cast as Bilko’s girlfriend. Unfortunately Phil Hartman is miscast and does not generate the laughs you’d hope for from this comic genius. Dan Ackroyd is very good too, but of course the movie belongs to Steve Martin. He’s an acquired taste, but so what. 8/10.

    “The Shawshank Redemption” Movie Review

    “The Shawshank Redemption” Plot Summary

Two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.

A movie revolution upon all others

We have all see movies, comedies, action and dramas. We all liked ones, hated others, got into some other even and felt like part of it. In Shawshank Redemption; you start slowly, after a while you get attached, by the time you reach the middle of the movie you simply totally forget about anything outside the screen and feel a mixed stream of emotions going through you head before anything else! then comes a last 20 minutes of heart storming that is surely enough to raise the adrenaline to extreme levels even in diabetics! I felt warm, strong, happy and all other emotions one can think of, I felt I was the one who won, who got out of prison, i was simply fully satisfied

This movie must be used as an Anti-depression by therapists! this movie proves that Oscars are either money bought gifts! or that who ever in charge of them are so smart that they couldn’t give any Oscar to The Shawshank Redemption knowing that the movie is on different – much higher- rating scale than the Oscars.. it’s simply over qualified!
