“The Men Who Stare at Goats” Movie Review

“The Men Who Stare at Goats” Plot Summary

A reporter in Iraq might just have the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady, a guy who claims to be a former member of the U.S. Army’s New Earth Army, a unit that employs paranormal powers in their missions. add synopsis

I loved this film. Clooney and Spacey were particularly hilarious

The story borrows liberally from the exploits of Joe McMoneagle and Ingo Swann and the cadre of Remote Viewers stationed at Fort Meade, MD, under the operational detachment Project Stargate. Yes, as the film states upfront: ‘More of this is true than you would believe’. There are instances in the film that incorporate actual Stargate operations: tracking submarines, finding a kidnapped American General in Italy and the search for Noriega following the US invasion of Panama. The comedy comes from the disconnect that the professional military hierarchy has from the rest of us. The Pentagon has too much money at its disposal and its internal political dynamics encourage a bizarre mixture of risk-averse yet forward-thinking innovators. This was particularly rampant after our loss in Vietnam. Vietnam and the Cold War combined to pull the Pentagon Brass in a thousand different directions and created a schism in the strategic planning sectors that is ripe for comedic exploration. Grant Heslov deftly captured this cultural watershed through his direction of the film. He ably guided the actors in performances that while sometimes brief, captured the totality of the real absurdity that the military can sometimes give us, while keeping the characters real and grounded and not drifting into farce. Heslov has captured an elusive tone, entirely his own, that I’ve only previously seen in Coen Brother’s films. This is a story I’ve longed to see told on the big screen and it was worth the wait. You could say its a story about the Military-Insanity Complex, but that’s too broad a brush for this slice of American military history. Clooney is brilliantly understated as always, he’s a master of subtlety and an actor that understands how powerful the camera can be. Kevin Spacey is throughly despicable as the film’s only real villain. If the film has any flaws at all its that Spacey is not in it enough. But the most poignant character is beautifully drawn by Jeff Bridges, who in just a few scenes depicts the inevitable trajectory of the innovative free-thinker in a rigid, uncaring system. Bridges shows us the cost of being that individual and Heslov gives the film room to explore this aspect of the story without sacrificing the reason we’re all there to watch: and that is to have a laugh at something that maybe should never have happened but did.

“Jumper” Movie Review

“Jumper” Plot Summary

A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between “Jumpers” and those who have sworn to kill them.

Insanely idiotic and vapid

I ended up watching this movie by chance and considering how hard I can resist to walk out a theatre to give the film a chance, I inflicted myself some serious pressure not to walk away

I honestly can’t think of anything redeeming. The storyline is so bland I can only picture a bunch of 14yo Beavis and Butthead teenagers writing this on a clownpointed Saturday detention assignment. The characters are weak and predictable. The so called ‘great’ life David has is boring beyond words and looks like a mere cliche of a pure teenage fantasy. The way the story goes turns him into a little unappealing selfish spoiled boring knucklehead. Oh lord, prevent me from cringing. CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE! Jamie Bell is an awful actor and so irritating, Samuel L. Jackson is out of place, Rachel Bilson tries her best but what’s all the fuss about these people? I’d damn myself for eternity for taking part even in a minor role of this movie. The end is just even worse, fizzling out into the outer space of vergognaland

Save your money, that’s the best advice I can give.

    “Rush Hour” Plot Summary

Two cops team up to get back a kidnapped daughter.

    Worth every penny!

First, I am not a martial arts film fan. I am however someone who enjoys being entertained and this film does just that. Wrapped around a thin plot it is a buddy/buddy film that works. Just as Mel and Danny made the Lethal Weapon films work, Jackie and Chris fit together just as well. The clips they show you in the trailers are not the only good scenes in this movie, the films full of them. All in all, well worth the time and money.

    Fast & Furious 3 : Tokyo Drift

Great movie, great cars but very poor acting performance. Me together with a lot of friends are looking forward to the next : FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4 – THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE. If they haven’t started it yet a good scenario would be that each country : USA, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, UK are sending their best drivers and cars to a secret place for the ultimate race to find out who is going to be the fastest & furious in the world. We in Belgium have just one little request. Please contract again Vin Diesel and Paul Walker because they are the only one capable to give an extra dimension to the cult of FAST AND THE FURIOUS. Gazoline regards, Tom

    “John Q” Plot Summary

A down-on-his luck father, whose insurance won’t cover his son’s heart transplant, takes the hospital’s emergency room hostage until the doctors agree to perform the operation. add synopsis

It’s a good film and Denzel is amazing as usual.

Denzel does a great job in this film. His performance was moving and made me cry. Just as he did in Man on Fire. The film itself isn’t too bad. The music could of been better but they didn’t do a bad job on it. It’s Denzel’s acting that makes the film however. If you are a Denzel fan and feel like watching a well performed and touching film… then get a box of tissues and sit down and watch ‘John Q’. It isn’t his best film but certainly another one of his well performed ones. This story is about a poor family and the poor health system in America. He loves his son dearly and will do anything for him. This is the tale about a man who will stop at nothing to try and save his son’s life who needs a new heart and it truly is touching.

    “Judge Dredd” Movie Review

    “Judge Dredd” Plot Summary

In a dystopian future, Dredd, the most famous judge (a cop with instant field judiciary powers) is convicted for a crime he did not commit while his murderous counterpart escapes. add synopsis

    I LOVED IT!

I’ll be honest, when I first heard of this movie I had never even heard of Judge Dredd, so I hadn’t the foggiest idea what to expect. I thought it was a fantastic film, with a really cool story, great action, cool actors, decent acting and some great bits of comedy.

Sylvester Stallone was the PERFECT choice for the role of Judge Dredd! He completely fits the mold and does an outstanding job portraying Judge Dredd. Rob Schnieder was an excellent choice for the part of Herman Ferguson as well. Rob added a great deal of comedy to the film and it was all good comedy, nothing terribly cheesy or annoying, just perfect. Diane Lane looks nothing short of fabulous throughout the film, and pulls off a fine performance as well. Max von Sydow is not someone I would expect to be in a film like this, but nonetheless, I’m glad he did, because he did a fantastic job. Armand Assante was excellent in the antagonist position. He makes and excellent ‘bad guy’, I’d love to see him in more films. The rest of the cast was good as well.

The special effects in the film are very good for the most part, there’s nothing much to complain about. The thing that completely made this film for me is the ABC Warbot. What a beautiful design! Truly fantastic!!! The only thing I would have liked to see is a long shot of the Warbot walking, but I’m sure with the budget of the film that was virtually impossible, so I’ll deal with it. But all the scenes with the Warbot are just fantastic!

I don’t really see why people tend to dislike this film. I thought it was an all around fun movie with plenty of good things going for it. I would definitely recommend this film to anyone that like super-hero movies, or just futuristic action films. I hope that you like this film as much as I do. Thanks for reading.

    “Daddy Day Care” Plot Summary

Two men get laid off and have to become stay-at-home dads when they can’t find jobs. This inspires them to open their own day-care center.

Very cute and fun for the family

I honestly thought that ‘Daddy Day Care’ was a very cute movie. I really had my doubts since I don’t have my own kids lucky enough, I don’t have to watch this. But my mom said to give the movie a shot and to have fun with it. I was plesantly surprised and laughed more than a few times. Yes, it’s a cheesy movie and very typical, but you have to learn to have a little fun with it. It reminded me a lot of ‘Kindergarten Cop’. You have got to admit that this was a lot better than Eddie Murphy’s last film ‘The Haunted Mansion’. It’s got laughter, drama, and just good old slap stick fun that you or the whole family will enjoy. Just give it a shot.8/10

    “The 6th Day” Movie Review

    “The Sixth Day” Plot Summary

Futuristic action about a man who meets a clone of himself and stumbles into a grand conspiracy about clones taking over the world.

An Arnold movie everyone can enjoy

‘The 6th Day’ marks the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to a genre that is second nature to him: action. This time there is an added twist; there is an excellent plot attached.’The 6th Day’ revolves around a man who has been cloned and ends up on the run from a corporation who wants him dead. Arnold is this man who has lost his family, life and taking on the corporation who took it from him. All the while, Arnold is searching within himself to find a way to get his family back. ‘The 6th Day’ boasts a cast that includes Robert Duvall, Michael Rooker, Tony Goldwyn and Sarah Wynter. I knew the second I saw these names flash across the screen I was in for a real treat. The first time I saw Schwarzenegger’s name I immediately knew he is the perfect man for the job

The best thing about ‘The 6th Day’ is the performance of Schwarzenegger because he is not only an action star in this film but a dramatic actor as he combines these two talents to pull off one of his better performances of his career

Arnold did not make this film a hit by himself, he had a little help from his friends. From Robert Duvall who played the doctor who performed the cloning operations to Michael Rooker, who was one evil henchmen with his menacing attitude and presence ‘The 6th Day’ is one great film to see

I enjoyed how the plot of film didn’t rely solely on the action sequences. Though, the action is fine and dandy; I believe that a film needs more than just action and ‘The 6th Day’ has it.’The 6th Day’ is one of the best Arnold films I’ve seen including the ‘Terminator’ series. It is filled with action, twists, turns, edge of your seat suspense and drama that will appeal to all movie fans of every age.
