“Around the World in 80 Days” Movie Review

“Around the World in Eighty Days” Plot Summary

A bet pits a British inventor, a Chinese thief, and a French artist on a worldwide adventure that they can circle the globe in 80 days.

Better than I expected

This is not so much an adaptation of the Jules Verne novel than the most expensive Jackie Chan movie ever. Like in his other films, Chan is fun to watch particularly in fight scenes. We don’t really care about the plot about going around the world in 80 days. Filius Fogg and his French girlfriend seem to just go along for the ride. Fogg is supposed to be a brilliant inventor, yet he can’t figure out that his new valet Chan is not French is one of the sillier plot holes. The other problem with the film is despite the big budget, some of the film looks fake looking. The special effects are not very impressive. It is also obvious that much of the film was filmed on a set and not on location. Still, the movie is watchable and it beats The Stepford Wives on remakes. I give it a 6/10 because it is entertaining but it is nothing special.

    “Conspiracy Theory” Movie Review

    “Conspiracy Theory” Plot Summary

Jerry Fletcher is a man who sees conspiracies everywhere. But if you keep doing that long enough, sooner or later you’re going to get one right… add synopsis

breathtaking film, outstanding performances you only wish it won’t happen to you.

We have all thought that certain incidents that we can’t explain or the explanation we were given was inadequate, could be because of a greater secret plan or conspiracy, i.e Elvis death, Princess Diana’s accident or JFK’s assasination are some of those mysteries. Well in this film Mel Gibson sees a conspiracy everywhere and tries to pursuade Julia Roberts, that certain ‘incidents’ weren’t quite as they seem. His whole behaviour though tends to be slightly psychotic and therefore no-one really pays attention to him. Except for Julia, who’s not quite sure what to believe. Until the day that Mel is abducted by Patrick Stewart and then gets away, only to show up in the justice department where Julia works, all covered in blood. When Julia hears his story she starts wondering for the first time ‘…what if….’ The story becomes faster and faster and now Julia is a target too

Outstanding performances, great script, brilliant direction

    WELL DONE!

    “Signs” Movie Review

    “Signs” Plot Summary

A family living on a farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields which suggests something more frightening to come.

    Great thriller!

The newest film in the legacy of M. Night Shyamalan, SIGNS manages to pull off some very effective creepiness in the very beginning and also holds your interesting throughout the course of the film. Mel Gibson is great, aswell as Joaquin Phoenix. The film was very creepy and contains steadily mounting terror. Vaguely similar to Mark Pellington’s THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, the film keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

The film is scary and in some cases, disturbing. The aliens are very well designed. The film actually surprised me. I was not expecting Shyamalan to stick with the story so very closely throughout the entire film almost. With his earlier works, THE SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE, he focuses on the relationships between family members very closely to create a lot of drama that has a payoff. But, most of this film is taken up by fast-moving situations that involve alien activity and crop circles. My only complaint, and I mean ‘only’, is that the film tries way too hard to be funny. It tries much harder than Shyamalan’s earlier works and is the type of humor that is not ‘laugh-out-loud’, but it is funny because you were not expecting it in a sci-fi suspense thriller. The sequences of the film that are scary, ARE scary. They could have been a little more effectively done, but otherwise, they were very well-crafted. SIGNS is a great movie that will live in movie history forever in both the genres of thriller and sci-fi. SIGNS gets 5/5.
