“Casino Royale” Movie Review

“Casino Royale” Plot Summary

In his first mission, James Bond must stop Le Chiffre, a banker to the world’s terrorist organizations, from winning a high-stakes poker tournament at Casino Royale in Montenegro.

Bond with a touch of the the Bourne supremacy

I saw this at a special premiere and i was amazed. having never been a Bond fan i wasn’t really expecting much from this. After watching Brosnans invisible car in the previous incarnation I thought it could only get worse. How wrong was I! this film is gritty and sharp. the dialogue is sharp and well thought out with Daniel Craig being the DEFINITIVE Bond. He exudes confidant menace. They have gone back to basics with this Bond ie character and dialogue driven and not thankfully gadget driven. Not only is it the best bond film out so far its one of the years best films out. They have borrowed some elements from the Bourne series of films which is long overdue on the franchise, more realistic fight sequences and with Daniel Craig actually looking like a physically capable man instead of the middle aged paunch of Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan who both quite frankly couldn’t beat up a Ritz cracker.

    “Reservoir Dogs” Movie Review

    “Reservoir Dogs” Plot Summary

After a simple jewelery heist goes terribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant. add synopsis

Ten years on – still brilliant!

It’s hard to get your head around the fact that ‘Reservoir Dogs’ has been around for ten years. It’s almost difficult to remember a time before Tarantino made such an enormous impact (good and bad) on movies, but I saw this movie first time round before the hype. All I knew was that, like another ‘dog’ movie from the same era that I saw, ‘Man Bites Dog’, that it was supposed to be violent, funny and disturbing, and that it starred a long time favourite of mine Harvey Keitel, and Tim Roth, who I mainly knew from Greenaway’s ‘The Cook The Thief His Wife & Her Lover’. Okay, I hope it’s good I thought as I waited in the cinema listening to some half remembered 70s A.M. pop and a strange conversation about Madonna’s sex life (the cinema was playing the soundtrack album before the main feature, but what did we know). Then the movie itself, electrifying and fascinating from the word go. It’s impossible to describe the impact of seeing this for the first time without knowing what to expect! Still one of my greatest movie memories. Ten years later I’ve seen it countless times so the surprise has obviously worn off, but it is still a brilliant movie because beneath the violence and wise-cracks of Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi – ‘In The Soup’), Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen – ‘Thelma & Louise’), and Nice Guy Eddie (Chris Penn – ‘At Close Range’), there is a lot of depth, that being the very human relationship between Mr. White (Keitel) and Mr

Orange (Roth). To me that is one of the things that elevates this above the many lame and unoriginal ‘Tarantinoesque’ movies we’ve had to endure since ‘Pulp Fiction’. His imitators just simply don’t have a clue!Simply brilliant cinema, and a modern classic. This is absolutely essential viewing!

    “The Deer Hunter” Movie Review

    “The Deer Hunter” Plot Summary

An in-depth examination of the way that the Vietnam war affects the lives of people in a small industrial town in the USA.

    An unforgettable movie.

This is a movie with a touching story about friendship and most of all in shows the horror of the Vietnam war. This movie has some of the best acting performances I have seen, and I am of course talking about Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. They really goes into their roles and creates a great atmosphere. This movie also contains one of the most famous scenes in movie history, the russian roulett scene

This scene is so intense and creepy to watch. One of the few great Vietnam movies ever.

    “Funny People” Movie Review

    “Funny People” Plot Summary

When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.

    Funny People… Smart Movie

Funny People: 8 out of 10: What is amazing about Funny people is considering its set-up and storyline it manages to deftly dodge a veritable minefield of bathos laid out before it. The story is about comedian, who is super rich after a string of really bad comedies (Adam Sandler playing himself), finds he has version of leukemia and well is going to die soon. Therefore, he reflects back on his life makes amends and chases the girl that got away with the help of new assistant, a thin Seth Rogen

Yes, it is what we hipsters would call Narm city. Yet this Judd Aptow directed flick is so self aware of the pitfalls that it not just avoids them for the most part but in a true stand up comic style calls them out. This is at its heart a very smart and aware film. What could have been Terms of Endearment with dick jokes turns into an occasionally funny and somewhat touching film. It is also a very real film about real people and I am going to repeat myself here but it is truly smart

The only real downside I see is that I really do not see myself watching this film again anytime soon. It is a great ride but it never reaches that next level. The movie consists of some very funny bits, but do not come aboard expecting belly laughs. In addition, while I found myself enjoying the laid back pace at 153 minutes there is no question this feels more like a directors cut than a tightly paced theatrical release.
