“Knowing” Movie Review

“Knowing” Plot Summary

A teacher opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son’s elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions — some that have already occurred and others that are about to — that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold. |

Genius, genius, genius!

Knowing is one of the greatest and most surprising films of the year! Nicholas Cage’s performance is surprisingly good; he fits the role as a teacher, he’s believable as a father, and he soon sends out emotion and anger as the film progresses. On top of that, the plot is very interesting and well-executed; every other scene, there’s a twist that comes about, I never see it coming, and it all builds up to an absolutely beautiful ending! The disaster scenes were thrilling; just knowing how much Cage’s character has to go through is something I can connect to. The film overall is intelligent, dramatic, and surprisingly thrilling. I saw the trailer expecting the film to be incredibly boring, but they managed to take the ‘boring’ part out of that and make it an incredible experience!

“Across the Universe” Movie Review

“Across the Universe” Plot Summary

The music of the Beatles and the Vietnam War form the backdrop for the romance between an upper-class American girl and a poor Liverpudlian artist.

excellent and artistic film

This film is extraordinary. It is extremely artistic, thought provoking, and has substance. It may not be for everyone. If you have no sense of over laying, or collage, or recognizing parallel stories from history repeating themselves, you may not connect with it. But I found this film to be over the top creative and entertaining. Since I grew up in the 60’s, and I appreciate the music of the Beatles, there was a personal connection to all of it. A lot of fun yet deep emotions were brought to the surface. I know a creative mind when I see one and Taymor and her collaborators are a ‘10′ in this regard. I will see it again.

“The Fountain” Movie Review

“The Fountain” Plot Summary

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.

Exceptional film-making

I was fortunate to see this at the Toronto Film Festival. While I have not seen Requiem for a Dream or Pi, I was fascinated by this film after hearing about the reaction in Venice. This is one of the most thought provoking & evocative movies I have ever seen. I think it is a movie that people will either love or hate, there doesn’t appear to be a middle ground

While introducing the film, in Toronto, Rachel Weisz commented that Aronofsky asks a lot from his actors, this appears to be true and most certainly pays off. Hugh Jackman’s gut-wrenching and emotional performance is phenomenal. This is undoubtedly his best performance and, as far as I’m concerned, you can hand him the Oscar. It is superbly written, acted and directed. Mansel’s score is beautiful. Be open to this movie and receive it. There aren’t enough superlatives to do justice to this film. I can’t wait to see it again. Brilliant!

“A Perfect Getaway” Movie Review

“A Perfect Getaway” Plot Summary

Two pairs of lovers (Zahn & Jovovich, Olyphant & Sanchez) on a Hawaiian vacation discover that psychopaths are stalking and murdering tourists on the islands.

A very good movie that kept me guessing for quite a while

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and so did my wife. I felt the story line was interesting and the acting was good (especially Zahn and Olyphant).

I had rented this movie and there were two versions on the DVD (the theatrical release and the unrated version). I enjoyed this movie enough that I watched the theatrical release the first night and then the next night watched the unrated version. I was mainly looking to see if the movie held together after seeing it through once… and it did

Movies like this can fall in to two buckets it seems. One in which the good people win and one where the bad ones win. This has become more noticeable to me recently with movies such as ‘The Strangers’, ‘Funny Games’, and also ‘Them’. This movie does fall in to the first bucket I mentioned. I was glad it did. I enjoy this movie from start to finish

The scenery was great as well. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes suspense/thriller movies.
