    “The Postman” Movie Review

    “The Postman” Plot Summary

Post-apocalyptic America. What begins as a con game becomes one man’s quest to rebuild civilization by resuming postal service. add synopsis

    A Movie About Hope

Possible Spoiler, If You Know Nothing About The Movie (8 Stars)This movie like many movies that get bad reviews is longer than most. It’s length may not let most viewers eat, chew gum, and talk at the same time. I liked it the first time I viewed it. It shows that desperate times require strength, courage, and hope. We may some day have a time when we are in dire straits. The World Trade Center September 11, comes to mind

When times are the toughest, someone has to step up to the plate and show courage. This man, the postman gives hope to those who had given up on life. It may be soapy, but it makes me feel good when it’s over. That is part of what watching movies is all about

Other movies that deal with post war situations, the Mad Max movies for the action, Blade Runner for it’s sci-fi, and Dr. Strangelove is my favorite classic movie with both humor and realism all tied up in a perfect package.

    “Brokeback Mountain” Movie Review

    “Brokeback Mountain” Plot Summary

Based on the ‘E. Annie Proulx’ story about a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years.

    An amazing piece of cinema..

I was fortunate enough to see the North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. That was two days ago, and this film just wont leave my mind. Not that I’m complaining because this is what good cinema is all about

Ennis and Jack, two cowboys who fall in love. As others have touched on, Brokeback Mountain is so much more than merely a ‘gay cowboy movie’. It perfectly captures what true, unbridled love is all about and this love transcends any issues of sexuality or gender. ‘Love is a force of nature’. Unfortunately for many people and indeed the protagonists of our story, society doesn’t always view it that way. Kudos to Ang Lee who has not shied away from the material at all. This adaptation stays true to the original short story and the two lead actors fit the roles perfectly. Ledger and Gyllenhaal give incredibly strong performances but the supporting cast shouldn’t be overlooked either, particularly a somewhat unrecognizable Michelle Williams. Solid work all around and with Mr Ang Lee’s vision they have created an amazing piece of cinema that should not be missed by anybody. Without giving anything away, you are going to be moved by this one.

    “Philadelphia” Movie Review

    “Philadelphia” Plot Summary

When a man with AIDS is fired by a conservative law firm because of his condition, he hires a homophobic small time lawyer as the only willing advocate for a wrongful dismissal suit.

    Rich, Compelling, Deep, Magnificent Film!!

Before I saw this movie I rated Tom Hanks as a competent actor, always consistent and dedicated to his craft. Roles that stood out for me where undoubtedly Forrest Gump and of course The Green Mile. I came into this movie knowing absolutely nothing about the plot, characters whether it was popular or how widely known it was. My house mate had rented it out, and left it sitting on the table. I picked it up and looking at the cover saw Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington staring back. Of course with two solid and professional actors like that your pretty much guaranteed a movie of a certain standard. But still I was hesitant about watching it thinking it must be some already overdone story about two strong interesting characters coming into and then overcoming some obstacles, providing views on life and such along the way.

I can’t believe I almost didn’t watch this movie. I wont tell you anything about the plot or the story. Because even though the plot is interesting and the story relevant, you’ll have seen it done a hundred times in other movies, television or literature. The reason you will want to see this movie will be to witness Tom Hanks sink his teeth so deep into a role that he will make Forest Gump look like a training exercise. Not that it overshadows it, the opposite in fact, seeing him capable of this extraordinary performance only leaves you wondering, if you didn’t already, how you didn’t see before what a remarkable actor he is. If I have led you to believe that this film offers nothing more than Hank’s incredible performance then that is not my intention. The film itself is staggeringly magnificent, see for yourself and let the film take you in and Tom Hanks leave you breathless.
