“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” Plot Summary
Two Western bank/train robbers flee to Bolivia when the law gets too close.
One word…..Excellent
I can remember seeing this movie, at the Colony Theater in Portsmouth Virginia, when it was first released. Since then, I’ve seen it at least 30 times, most recently last night. In my humble opinion, Paul Newman & Robert Redford made an excellent movie twosome 30 years ago [and expanded on it a few years later, in The Sting]. In reading the reviews submitted about this movie it makes me happy to see that most of the people agree with my opinion. How could you not like these characters, along with Etta, ‘those guys’ following them and eventually Strother [who will always be remembered for his 'what we have here is a failure to communicate' in Cool Hand Luke] Martin? Not to mention the scenes where Etta enters the picture, when Butch has to fight Logan, when they have to jump in the water and, of course, the ending sequence of events. I won’t say ‘they don’t make them like they used to’, but this one is a keeper. And if you agree with my evaluation, and have a DVD player, watch the DVD that has interviews, etc., to give you an even better picture of this excellent movie.

“Indecent Proposal” Plot Summary
A married woman agrees to have sex with another man for $1,000,000. add synopsis
Explores what love really means
Warning, may be some spoilersIndecent Proposal is a film that knows exactly how someone feels when it comes to jealousy. There is a great line in the film after Demi Moore comes back from her encounter with gazillionaire Robert Redford. Her husband, played perfectly by Woody Harlesson, is asking her questions that don’t need to be answered. Because if they are, it will put a damper in their marriage. But he persists and finally Demi shouts out to him, ‘ If I tell you he wasn’t any good then I’m a liar. If I tell you that he was then I’m a whore. ‘ What a brilliantly written line and it is one that lends a perfect ear to what the film is about in most senses. Jealousy is a powerful emotion but being broke and in love is just as powerful on the other end of the scale. What is so great about this film is that is makes us all question what we would do in that exact same situation. Would you let your wife sleep with a man for one million dollars? Could you look at it and say that it was only one night and you can deal with it? Would you say that your marriage is strong enough to overcome something so meaningless? And that is the key issue right there. Is it really that meaningless? If you are married and in love ( if you are together in a monogamous relationship), is there ever a time when sex is meaningless enough to overlook, even if all of your financial problems are solved in the aftermath?Indecent Proposal is a great film in almost every sense. The actors are great, especially Oliver Platt who has a cameo as their lawyer and he gets all the laughs. The direction is great as it never gets anywhere close to pornographic, and it lets the audience decide for themselves what happened on that fateful night. When you look at the whole concept of the film, you know it could get cheesy if handled poorly and irresponcibly. But it never does. It stays on course and delivers the goods. I highly recommend this film and I think it is good to watch it with someone that you love. It will invoke some very interesting conversations after words. But don’t watch it with them if you are afraid of the answers that you might get. That, to me is good film making. Something that leaves you discussing it long after it is over. Indecent Proposal does that.

“Lions for Lambs” Plot Summary
Injuries sustained by two Army ranger behind enemy lines in Afghanistan set off a sequence of events involving a congressman, a journalist and a professor.
Simple but strong
An excellent plot line, brilliantly directed, great cast, not one of Tom’s best performances, but non the less impeccable. The underlying critique of the severe levels of apathy we face in society nowadays is so subtle that it screams a wake up call. All Redford fans will surely be delighted as this is definitely one of his best pieces. I loved the way he approached the subject, which in it self is not an easy one to develop under the circumstances and what fascinates me is that the movie is so fluid, mind opening, non-invasive and easy to grasp that it almost leaves you with the impression that anyone could have done it, which of course is far from the truth. I think this should be a mandatory classroom video for both high school and college students alike, because everyone can benefit from the psychological momentum this movie captures and conveys so beautifully.

“Spy Game” Movie Review
“Spy Game” Plot Summary
Retiring CIA agent Nathan Muir recalls his training of Tom Bishop while working against agency politics to free him from his Chinese captors. add synopsis
excellent film
Top notch thriller. Engrossing, though typical plot/subplot (two men develop friendship, woman comes between them, but buddy helps out and saves couple) and great character development considering characters are supposed to be mysterious spies and very little is told about their background
Robert Redford is a cynical, yet warm mentor, and Brad Pitt is a hotshot moralist as well as being the best assassin in the ‘business’. Redford is an old-school operative who uses his ‘tradecraft’ to out-wit the technology the modern CIA now relies on, to bust his protegee out of a Chinese prison after Pitt’s character, a rogue agent, uses CIA resources to rescue his girlfriend, fails and ends up in prison himself facing execution in less then 24 hours for being a spy . The relationship between the two men is told in a series of flashbacks that span a time-line of about 20 years starting during the Vietnam war to the cold war in Berlin and the mean streets of Beruit as Redford’s character stalls for time during a debriefing into the rescue failure on his last day of work before retirement. In the meantime, between breaks of debriefing, he mines for information about why the CIA won’t save one of their own as well as setting up a covert operation to get Pitt and his girlfriend out of prison before they are executed
Cinematography is reminiscent of brother Ridley (grainy, washed-out imagery in tones of brown and blue), and editing and camera movement is more like recent films from Woo or Ang Lee. The action is realistic without being over the top. There are no fancy gadgets or impossible stunts
Compared to stuff like XXX (or worse, XXX-2), Mission Impossible 1 & 2, or any number of action thrillers about secret agents (such as the most recent crop of James Bond films or Charlie’s Angels), this movie seems to tell it the way it is or the way you might think reality might be. The ‘tradecraft’ actually makes way more sense then, say, a watch with a laser cutter built in or a car with missiles an ejection seat. All in all, a very watchable and believable film.
