” Alien?” 1992 by David Fincher – Movie Review

Ellen Ripley Closely Cropped
A rare case for Hollywood: the “Alien 3″ movie is so bizarre, so non-for-profit that it is pretty surprising it got shot and released to the theatres. The film has undergone an unusually complex preparation process: the script was at different times written by the famous cyberpunk writer William Gibson and screenwriter Eric Red, among the previous assigned directors were Renny Harlin and Vincent Ward (director of the “The Navigator: A Mediaeval Odyssey”, 1988), some of Ward’s storyline ideas entered the final script, which was then modified by producers David Giler and Walter Hill. The latter said later that in the “Alien 3″ he sees a certain connotations associated with the AIDS virus: well, it might be the way it is. The last of the directors, David Fincher, by the time was known mostly for a few inventive rock-music videos. Subsequently this director got famous for strong thrillers “Se7en” (1995) and “The Game” (1997).
Alien 3 Plot Summary
A remote planet, neglected ore refinery- a correctional facility for especially dangerous criminals with extra Y-chromosome. An escape vessel in which Ripley, Newt, Hicks, and a droid called Bishop are traveling on crash lands on Fiorina 161. Unfortunately, although Newt and Hicks do not survive the crash, the brisk and tenacious form of life does and it is probably somewhere nearby, in the endless factory ventilation shafts. The rescuer team from the Corporation is already speeding to rescue, though who knows whom exactly they are going to save? Therefore Ripley and the local black sanctimonious leader have raised the convicts to fight the alien monster – and the alien habitually tears all the living beings into parts but somehow it doesn’t touch the heroine.

“The Karate Kid” Movie Review
“The Karate Kid” Plot Summary
A handyman/martial arts master agrees to teach a bullied boy karate and shows him that there is more to the martial art than fighting.
Karate Kid
Best movie ever!!! The chemistry between Ralph Macchio and Elisabeth Shue is pure gold! This movie is really relatable to just about everyone who ever got picked on. I also think Pat Morita did a great job in reducing vocabulary while retaining intelligence for this movie. Another thing that really impressed me was that I heard that Billy Zabka really took that kick to the face in the conclusion of the tournament. The characters really play off of each other and the result is astounding. One thing however I find almost unbelievable, is that in this movie, Ralph Macchio is almost 23 years old. With his ability to pull off such a young role and his performances in The Outsiders along with these Karate Kid movies I believe he is one of the best actors ever. All in all, this movie is a must see and an extremely good classic.

“Pirate Radio” Plot Summary
A period comedy about an illegal radio station in the North Sea in the 1960s.
Very funny and clever
The best feel-good-factor film I’ve seen since Little Miss Sunshine. In 1967 I won a transistor radio and spent the next ten years listening to Radio Caroline (at night under the pillow, so the early scene is uncanny!!) The film is a clever amalgam of pirate radio fact and myth featuring barely disguised DJs, and cameo scenes from album covers, fashion shoots, etc.. (orgy in the hold = Electric Ladyland; girls arriving on the prow of the boat = Mary Quant…; poster scenes = Abbey Road…, etc.) Anyone’s guess if the station/boat owner is based on Ronan O’Rahilly. The kind of guy who, 20 years later might have founded a low-cost airline; The Marine Offences Act was a heinous offense against liberty and popular culture, worthy of the cold war opponents
Beautifully filmed, a bit like smoking grass while listening to CSNY.

“Cliffhanger” Movie Review
“Cliffhanger” Plot Summary
A botched mid-air heist results in suitcases full of cash being searched for by various groups throughout the Rocky Mountains.
one of Stallone’s best and a great movie.
There are those who hate Sylvester Stallone no matter what he does and/or says. While I have many movies that he has done that are awful, CLIFFHANGER is and an aptly film that is terrific from start to finish. Stallone gives a cautiously measured performance as a rescue climber who seems to have lost his edge after a horrifying accident. When a Federal Treasury plane crash lands in the mountians with a band of ruthless murderers and thieves on board, it is up to the rescuers to do what they do best. They find out about the plane’s cargo and it’s passengers only too late. Renny Harlin directs CLIFFHANGER with style and energy to burn. Stallone, Michael Rooker, and Janine Turner are the rescuers and John Lithgow leads his band of criminals through the mountians looking for three suitcases filled with untraceable cash. CLIFFHANGER has some incredible scenery and camera work and it’s script is literate and intelligent
I do have one curious question? Was it really necessary to have Lithgow speak with an British accent? Never to quibble over technicalities, CLIFFHANGER is a solid action picture; fun, exciting, and well worth 2 hours of you time. CLIFFHANGER-***1/2 out 4.
