“Duell — Enemy at the Gates” Plot Summary

Two Russian and German snipers play a game of cat-and-mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad. add synopsis

    Smashing good movie

There is something odd about Russian peasants talking in articulate, middle-class British accents, but it works. I’m not sure why. Something symbolic about the nobility of the common man?Ed Harris doesn’t bother with accents either. In fact, nobody does. It’s probably for the best

This is a pretty gripping movie, as is any movie where the lives of all the characters can end with the mere squeeze of an index finger from some unseen place

Watch this movie. Despite what you might read here, it’s a lot better than rubbish like Saving Private Ryan. Though it might be a shock to the system for many of you to have no Americans to barrack for.

    Great film

Whatever normandbutter may say, this movie is wonderful. Everybody is beautifully cast, and they are all believable. Ed Speleers gives a wonderful performance for his first time acting, and it is another great performance from Jeremy Irons. Those who don’t like it shouldn’t be on this website, because if you don’t like something then there’s no reason to go to a web page dedicated to it. See this movie, it is beautifully done and if you buy the two disk special edition, watch all of the second disk, it will give you a greater appreciation for it. I own the two disk special edition, and after watching everything from the movie to how they made Saphira fly, I wanted to watch it again and again.

    “Constantine” Movie Review

    “Constantine” Plot Summary

Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer and written by Kevin Brodbin, Mark Bomback and Frank Capello, Constantine tells the story of irreverent supernatural detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has literally been to hell and back.

    Excellent fantasy/horror movie

I’ve seen Constantine three times and I enjoy it more each time I watch it! It is truly well-done and extremely entertaining, and I can guarantee that if you like horror, suspense and/or fantasy you will love this movie! Keanu Reeves plays a very cool Constantine, who is a modern-day exorcist but most certainly not to be confused with a priest, as he has his issues and a burden of sins from his past that he carries with him. Constantine is a very realistic and human hero who is devoid of superpowers but has all the cool gadgets and the kick-ass attitude needed to survive in a world slowly being invaded by demons and scheming angels. He meets Angela (Rachel Wiesz) after she loses her sister, Isabel to the forces of evil. She comes to Constantine in search of an answer on where Isabel has ended up following her apparent suicide. Constantine journeys to other realms/dimensions in an attempt to get those answers, even paying a couple of visits to hell. Needless to say, with such a plot the special effects, acting, sets, script and even wardrobe have to be carefully conceived and executed to make it believable, and they are… in spades

Constantine achieves what all great movies always do: it takes you into another world that makes you forget everything about your own world the whole time you are watching it. And really, in the end, isn’t that what great cinema is all about?

    “The Lovely Bones” Movie Review

    “The Lovely Bones” Plot Summary

Centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

    Lovely Fantasy Thriller

I honestly don’t know why The Lovely Bones has gotten so many bad reviews on this site. The entire cast was exceptional especially Stanley Tucci as the creepy killer. Miss Ronan was very good as Susie the unfortunate victim. She appears to be an actress to watch for in the future. Susie is a 14 year old girl who is murdered and finds herself in a world that is somewhere in between heaven. She stays in this world to somehow contact her family into knowing who killed her. The fantasy ‘heaven’ sequences are well done. They make you believe there is such a place. The film gradually builds up suspense. The ending will have you on the edge of your seat when Susie’s sister goes snooping in the killer’s house. I didn’t expect much after reading some of the negative reviews but it just goes to show that you have to see it for yourself. This is one of the best films so far this year.

“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” Movie Review

    “The Mummy 3″ Plot Summary

In the Far East, Alex O’Connell, the son of famed mummy fighters Rick and Evy O’Connell, unearths the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin — a shape-shifting entity cursed by a witch centuries ago.

    Fun

My one-word summary pretty much says it all for me. Mummy 3 is, like the previous installments, a fun distraction from all the bad news that the front page of the newspaper reminds us of every day

Frasier is back as Rick O’Connell. Leaner and meaner from the last time we saw the character in 2001, Frasier brings the same A-game to what is essentially B-movie fun. Much has been made of Maria Bello replacing Rachel Weisz as Evie. Yes, Maria is no Rachel, but still, she is more than up for the challenge. Everyone involved seems to be having a lot of fun. It was great to have John Hannah back as Jonathan, he is always great to have around to lighten the atmosphere. Luke Ford is believable as Alex O’Connell. He has many of the same traits and physicality of Frasier’s ‘Rick’ that you believe this is what Rick and Evie’s could would look like and act like. The effects, like in the previous films, are good enough to tell the story, but will not win any academy awards. Many miss that point; these films are supposed to appear lower budget and have predictable stories. They are homages to the films that the Indy series is steeped in. There is nothing highbrow here, but there is plenty of entertainment for a much needed distraction

Jet Li does a lot with saying very little. His Emporer is much like Imotep in that he spends a good portion of the film not in flesh form. He is given much more screen time than I thought he would. I did think there was a martial arts geek moment missed when the fight between Li and Yeoh was not longer. These are two of the greats and it would have been fun to see them go at it longer

The story is pretty much the usual fare for the Mummy films. We have an opening prologue that sets the stage and then our heroes stumble into the middle of everything and some how come out on the end. Simple, but fun story telling. All in all, great way to spend 2hrs just sitting back and watching the O’Connell’s and Co. take on another adventure.

An American serving in the French Foreign Legion on an archaeological dig at the ancient city of Hamunaptra accidentally awakens a Mummy. add synopsis

    great mummy movie

OK, hands down this movie is just awesome…Probably the best mummy movie

Brendan Fraser as the gung-ho Rick O’Connel is really funny and one of the characters that just makes this movie so great. John Hannah as Jonothan is good comic relief. one of my favourite seens with jonothan is when he is pretending to be one of the mindless followers of Imhotep.basically Rachel Weisz’ character wakes up a mummy, Imhotep played by Arnold Vosloo (who i must say did quite a convincing job and i enjoyed his performance) and Imhotep sets plagues onto the land of Egypt and wants to resurrect his lost love.some people may find this movie has some scary parts in it, but its also a lighthearted movie in having comedy in it as well. you could say this is a horromedy.

    “The Fountain” Movie Review

    “The Fountain” Plot Summary

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.

    Exceptional film-making

I was fortunate to see this at the Toronto Film Festival. While I have not seen Requiem for a Dream or Pi, I was fascinated by this film after hearing about the reaction in Venice. This is one of the most thought provoking & evocative movies I have ever seen. I think it is a movie that people will either love or hate, there doesn’t appear to be a middle ground

While introducing the film, in Toronto, Rachel Weisz commented that Aronofsky asks a lot from his actors, this appears to be true and most certainly pays off. Hugh Jackman’s gut-wrenching and emotional performance is phenomenal. This is undoubtedly his best performance and, as far as I’m concerned, you can hand him the Oscar. It is superbly written, acted and directed. Mansel’s score is beautiful. Be open to this movie and receive it. There aren’t enough superlatives to do justice to this film. I can’t wait to see it again. Brilliant!

    “The Mummy Returns” Movie Review

    “The Mummy 2″ Plot Summary

The mummified body of Imhotep is shipped to a museum in London, where he once again wakes and begins his campaign of rage and terror. add synopsis

    Great Movie!!!

This was a great movie that I think is better than the first but then again, you can’t beat the original right? I loved The Mummy but what I love even more is how the characters develop 10 years later. There is a lot of VFX but if you listen to the commentary you will find some reasons as to why some of the places were created in VFX (mostly because in the back of most of these cities are skyscrapers).

Again, Imhotep is brought back as the main villain but the Scorpion King is also brought into the plot which makes it a little more interesting by putting more depth into the story and having Imhotep fear him. Our good guys, the O’Connells are also mixed in a little more by making this story personal with the kidnapping of their son, Alex

Imhotep is still pretty much the same character as was before but now Anack-Su-Namun is in this movie a lot more which makes him be kind of protective of her. Anack-Su-Namun is now obviously more than a CG animation undead mummy, she is now reincarnated but only in body as Meela. Imhotep soon brings her soul back from the underworld though. Evy has also had more depth because we learn that she and Rick are more connected to the story than we thought. Evy is a reincarnated princess and Rick is apparently a Madjai. Evy has also changed from being the librarian for the Cario Museum to an archaeologist who in Racel Weisz’s words ‘hooked on adrenaline’. Johnathon is well, still the same old Johnathon

The acting and portrayal of all of the characters was done very well. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz both did a fantastic job portraying their characters. You could see that together they had great chemistry and also they did well in developing but somehow keeping the same characters that we know. Rachel had to change Evy into more of an included person in the action sequences and show how much 10 years changed Evelyn. Brendan had to basically keep his same character from before and also develop him just a little like make him more into the dad type character, which he did very well with. Overall I think The Mummy Returns is a great movie to watch over and over with friends, family or whomever else you choose.
