    “Match Point” Plot Summary

At a turning point in his life, a former tennis pro falls for a femme-fatal type who happens to be dating his friend and soon-to-be brother-in-law. add synopsis

The Talented Mr. Allen: Woody’s best film since ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’

MATCH POINT (2005) ***1/2 Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Scarlett Johansson, Emily Mortimer, Matthew Goode, Brian Cox, Penelope Wilton, Margaret Tyzack, Ewen Bremner, James Nesbitt. The Talented Mr. Allen: Woody’s best film since ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’Woody Allen has been a respected filmmaker for over thirty years and in recent memory has been in something of a slump with his trademark New York neurotic comedies of late and it has been well over a decade since he attempted anything resembling a drama (his last was a combination of comedy/ drama for his masterpiece ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’ in 1989) and in his latest stab at it comes through remarkably with his best film in sometime

Jettisoning his usual choice of his beloved Manhattan The Woodman jaunts across The Big Pond and sets his story in London (not the first European adventure mind you – he did go to Paris for ‘Everyone Says I Love You’) with the plot focusing on a borderline callow young tennis player cum pro, Chris Wilton (Rhys-Meyers giving Jude Law a run for the money as sexiest Brit on screen) whose philosophy for life is being lucky rather than being good or great at something. This proves to be his one flaw as he obtains a job as an instructor for a supremely private resort club where he befriends one of his charges, Tom Hewett (Goode), whose shared love for opera has him inviting the unassuming Chris to a performance where his family has a box seat reserved. Here he meets the rest of Tom’s family: respected businessman Alec (the ubiquitous Cox), tipsy mum Eleanor (Wilton) and engaging sister Chloe (the wonderfully sublime Mortimer) who falls deeply head over heels in love with Chris almost immediately. Chris too finds himself in love with Chloe and before you know it is taken in by the wealthy clan as one of the family

As the story progresses Chris finds this sudden shift in his life moving along nicely and to his agreement accruing a position in one of Alec’s many business ventures as an apprentice seller and weekends at the sprawling estate of the Hewetts. It is there he also meets Tom’s gorgeous American fiancee, Nola Rice (Johansson giving one of her better performances to date), a fledgling actress who beguiles Chris immediately and he is smitten by her, intoxicated by her very presence that the two wind up in a countryside embrace leading to a moment of unbridled passion. While Nola makes light of giving in to their primal desires as a lack of clarity on her behalf, Chris cannot get enough of her; Nola explains this desire is temporary and that she is getting married to Tom; end of story

Chris tries to do what’s right and eventually marries the unsuspecting Chloe and absorbs himself in work until one day while playing a set with Tom he is informed that Tom has dumped Nola and is in love with another unknown woman. The fire is re-ignited in Chris’ soul and the determination heightened as he becomes infatuated in finding Nola again to seduce her once and for all. Allen allows his talented class plenty of room to act up a storm but not overact the seemingly straight-forward melodrama at hand but what makes it rise above the norm is the way his leads make their seemingly unsympathetic characters empathetic. Rhys-Meyers remains cool as a cucumber until the predictable complication ensures his affair with Johansson will lead to an unlikely scenario that borders ridiculous mystery theater affair however maintains a balance of dread in when the couple will come to a head. Johansson mixes the smoky cadence of her Kathleen Turner-like vocals into a come-hither-insouciance not before experienced and has the tricky task of making her Nola’s head case come to fruition with believability; she succeeds succinctly

Allen’s screenplay is literate, clever and crafty and at once familiar with a few of his trademark quips tossed in with elan that his upper crust characters make the most of what they can with a dry bright witticism here and there. The storyline flows evenly amidst its choppy third act that feels a tad rushed yet when the darkness comes it echoes ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ which it has a lot in common with but never trespasses entirely. This is Allen’s most adult film in sometime and not to besmirch it perhaps his most challenging one to date. Thank God Woody is back in fine form, not unlike an old tennis pro on the senior’s tour with a wicked backhand.

    “Proof of Life” Plot Summary

Alice hires a professional negotiator to obtain the release of her engineer husband, who has been kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in South America. add synopsis

A good and very entertaining thriller with Russell Crowe

While building a dam in ‘Tecala’, a country situated in the Andes, the chief America engineer ‘Peter Bowman’ (David Morse), is captured by anti-government forces during a raid in the capital. When the rebels discover their identity require $3 million to return safe and sound. However, the company of ‘Peter’, based in Houston, is on the brink of bankruptcy and has canceled the insurance policy against kidnappings, so it cannot provide the money for their rescue. Abandoned by the company, ‘Alice’ (Meg Ryan), the wife of ‘Peter’, must cope with the situation by your account. She hires the services of the negotiator of hostages professional ‘Terry Thorne’ (Russell Crowe), a veteran of SAS, which in recent years has dealt with numerous kidnappings.’Proof of Life’ is a film little considered due to high expectations for its attractiveness argument and that is the first film of Russell Crowe after the great success throughout the world with ‘Gladiator.’ But its director Taylor Hackford has not sought a film committed and complaint, only has sought to expose through a current problem, a simple thriller and fairly, conventional with good scenes of action. Its objective is achieved by far, but it is not at all what has been expected of this film

In terms of its scenes of action, they are very successful and generous, with some contribution of tension well managed. The film is conventional within this genre of films. It has not nothing to do not have seen before, but it knows expose very well the action, although the fabric loving can be considered very secondary fulfills its mission,

    “Shanghai Noon” Plot Summary

Jackie Chan plays a Chinese man who travels to the Wild West to rescue a kidnapped princess. After teaming up with a train robber, the unlikely duo takes on a Chinese traitor and his corrupt boss. add synopsis

perfect blend of action and comedy, the funniest western ever

This movie is a perfect blend of action and comedy. This movie stars Jackie Chan as Chon Wang, one of the soldiers of the army of the forbidden city in China. When the princess leaves and goes to America it is up to Chon to bring her back. When he gets to Nevada, where most of the story takes place he meets Roy O’Bannon played by Owen Wilson u’ll ever meet. He is a wanted outlaw and in an odd chain of events they become a duo. This is the funniest western, this movie surpasses Blazing Saddles by far. Blazing Saddles is funny but the one-liners that Owen Wilson drop are just so hilarious. ‘I don’t know Karate but I do know crazy, and I will use it’. Lucy Lui also stars as the Princess This movie is definitely worth seeing but you kinda wanna steer clear of the sequel ‘Shanghai Knights’ It does not do the first film justice. I have never been able to complete the second one mainly because it is boring. But salutes to Shanghai Noon the funniest western to date. 9 out of 10

    “Predator” Movie Review

    “Predator” Plot Summary

A team of commandos, on a mission in a Central American jungle, find themselves hunted by an extra-terrestrial warrior.

Really cool action with unforgettable characters

In 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger was solidifying his position as an action superstar with the releases of the epic Conan, the influential Terminator and the somewhat mediocre Commando that was still fun to watch anyway. However, that position wouldn’t be fully cemented until the arrival of Terminator 2 in 1991 which forever raised the bar for the action genre.

But plain and simple, ‘Predator’ is a staple for Schwarzenegger’s profile. It introduced the ultra cool ‘Predator’ to the world and changed the popular culture’s perspectives on alien movies. But the movie itself isn’t just known for the central character, like the crappy Friday the 13th movies that are only known for the murderous Jason Voorhees and his stupid hockey mask. But ‘Predator’ is known for the movie as a whole, with a great simplistic plot, awesome characters and great action that will make people want to see this again and again.

The movie is a about a former soldier/mercenary named Dutch (Arnie) who has been involved in a lot of conflict and has since decided to settle down and be the leader of a rescue team. He goes to a South American country to participate in a mission that would supposedly rescue a Cabinet Minister and a few other hostages, but later on he finds out that he’s been set up and it was actually a mission to destroy a rebel base that would’ve invaded sooner or later. And Dutch gets ticked off and he and his team try to escape the jungle, but they’re then being pursued by an alien who ‘hunts’ rather than kills. As the situation escalates, Dutch starts to lose his sanity and that’s totally evident in the final showdown with the creature.

Like James Cameron’s ‘Aliens’ that came out the year before, ‘Predator’ is shaped by it’s excellent characters, Dutch is the great, silent leader who is somewhat broken inside from all the combat that he went through in the past and his quote ‘If it bleeds, we can kill it’ is among the greatest. Blain is the totally cool tobacco-chewing, mini-gun-totting guy who spewed out 2 of the movie’s best lines: ‘I ain’t got time to bleed’, and ‘This stuff’ll make you a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus, just like me’. Mac is pretty much Blain’s best bud and frequently shaves with his razor and without the shaving cream to show his manliness. Hawkins is the super-nerd of the group who reads comic books and occasionally makes some sick jokes about his girlfriend. Billy is the silent, no-nonsense spiritual dude. Dillon is the dirty CIA agent who was best pals with Dutch a few years back and then sets up Dutch and his team, which leads to their demise and his, as well. And finally, Poncho is the sympathetic, yet sarcastic soldier who connects with Anna, their hostage, during the course of the film. And these guys are great characters; and they each have their own personalities, which makes you want to see more out of each guy.

And of course, I can’t forget about the ‘Predator’. The high-tech alien that hunts other creatures for sport was a very creative and original idea. It also held a very intimidating presence and the special effects were very well done, especially the camouflage. And I’m still wondering how that managed to do that in 1987.

And last, but not the least, the action really stands out thanks to the direction of John McTiernan, who directed this right before he made ‘Die Hard’. The scene when the team attacks the rebel camp is, without a doubt one of the best in cinema, since it shows each team member providing something in the attack, and it’s not just one guy who acts like a one-man army and destroys everything in his path all by himself. Also, Dutch’s confrontation with the predator at the end, which displays more prehistoric styles of combat with the setting of the boulder and spike traps. And this movie makes up the modern warfare action and the caveman action so well.

Any action/sci-fi junkie should watch this, and they will be HOOKED. And you will want to see this again and again.

In his first mission, James Bond must stop Le Chiffre, a banker to the world’s terrorist organizations, from winning a high-stakes poker tournament at Casino Royale in Montenegro.

Bond with a touch of the the Bourne supremacy

I saw this at a special premiere and i was amazed. having never been a Bond fan i wasn’t really expecting much from this. After watching Brosnans invisible car in the previous incarnation I thought it could only get worse. How wrong was I! this film is gritty and sharp. the dialogue is sharp and well thought out with Daniel Craig being the DEFINITIVE Bond. He exudes confidant menace. They have gone back to basics with this Bond ie character and dialogue driven and not thankfully gadget driven. Not only is it the best bond film out so far its one of the years best films out. They have borrowed some elements from the Bourne series of films which is long overdue on the franchise, more realistic fight sequences and with Daniel Craig actually looking like a physically capable man instead of the middle aged paunch of Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan who both quite frankly couldn’t beat up a Ritz cracker.

    Great film

Whatever normandbutter may say, this movie is wonderful. Everybody is beautifully cast, and they are all believable. Ed Speleers gives a wonderful performance for his first time acting, and it is another great performance from Jeremy Irons. Those who don’t like it shouldn’t be on this website, because if you don’t like something then there’s no reason to go to a web page dedicated to it. See this movie, it is beautifully done and if you buy the two disk special edition, watch all of the second disk, it will give you a greater appreciation for it. “Apollo 13″ Plot Summary

True story of the moon-bound mission that developed severe trouble and the men that rescued it with skill and dedication.

    An exciting time

Boys own adventure about the ill fated ‘Apollo 13′ mission which was to follow the successful journey that saw Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the moon.

Ron Howard deftly recreates the tension, ambition, hope and disappointment which accompanied the crew who dreamed of writing yet another page in ’space race’ history. Ronnie helms with a purpose, never allowing any sidelines or subplots to undermine the story which he skilfully builds to not one, but several nail biting climaxes. Many of us know the story, yet writers John Sayles, William Broyles Jnr. and Al Reinart still manage to entertain us with an involving screenplay which recreates the excitement of the time.

All the technical teams have masterfully brought to life the NASA Space Centre at Cape Kennedy, along with the amazing hardware that goes with it. The take-off sequence is especially well produced thanks to some stunning special effects and clever cinematography (Dean Cundey – who wields with effect throughout the pic).

Tom Hanks convincingly personifies the ambitious dreamer Jim Lovell, sharing with us his trials and his triumphs. In support of him is Bill Paxton (in perhaps his biggest role to date), finally playing a character who is not paranoid, and doing so very well. Kevin Bacon also joins the crew, playing a late replacement for the devastated Gary Sinise, who is ousted due to concerns he may contract the measles. Back at Cape Kennedy, an impressive Ed Harris calls the shots in an Academy nominated role, keeping his feet firmly on the ground, unlike his turn in ‘The Right Stuff’.

James Horner provides a familiar sounding theme.

    “King Kong” Movie Review

    “King Kong” Plot Summary

A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal giant gorilla who takes a shine to their female blonde star.

    Gods and monsters

Forty years before Raquel Welsh, and a whole era before ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘King Kong’ was the world’s first dinosaur movie. But it wasn’t the dinosaurs it featured, but rather the eponymous giant ape, who became perhaps cinema’s most enduring icon. The recent death of Fay Wray, the film’s star, provides a good opportunity to re-evaluate this classic movie. The most remarkable thing is how exactly this film, made when talkies themselves were less than a decade old, defines the blockbuster to this day. All the elements are there: a ludicrous plot (among the many improbables we have to swallow is the fact that the discovery of living tyranousauri is regarded unremarkable by all); bad acting; a quasi-racist world-view, non-stop action tempered by a little love interest; and stunning special effects. The plot has a surprisingly mature structure, though, and unlike most of its successors, thankfully does not see the need for pyrotechnics right at the start, instead allowing the tension to build before the monster’s first appearance. The scene composition is also frequently truly brilliant, especially the scenes of Kong in New York, and also the scene where he bursts through the gates. It’s also interesting to catch certain cinematic conventions in an early state of evolution: one is that if characters are shot from a distance, we hear their voices more quietly. Also of note is the very static camera, pre-dating Orson Welles, of course, but additionally constrained by the need to accommodate the special effects: the scenes with the monster do feel more like a silent movie, or a primitive video game (indeed, the first computer game I ever owned was inspired by this movie, which, owing to a surreal Japanese spelling error, was known as ‘Donkey Kong’!). ‘King Kong’ is certainly no donkey of a film; but in some ways it’s a little disappointing to see how little the action adventure movie has advanced from its template in 71 years.

“Aliens in the Attic” Plot Summary

A group of kids must protect their vacation home from invading aliens.

    Enjoyable children movie

Aliens in the Attic is a movie that entertains for maybe 30 minutes. After that time I think that it turns a little foolish, unreal and very childish. the movie tells the story of a very dysfunctional family that rent a house on the lake for their vacations, what they don’t know is that the house is already habit by a group of aliens looking for a device to invade and conquer the Earth. The aliens can control the mind of adult people but not of teenagers and children, so it is the children of the family to protect their house, their family and the whole world. The story is very predictable, from the very beginning you can tell what is going to happen. The cast is good, the performances not that much. I love the role of Doris Roberts as the Grandma, she is very funny, Kevin Nealon is also very food as the dad. I think that it is already time for Ashley Tisdale to leave behind the roles of the spoiled high school teenager and the kids were good enough specially the little girl Ashley Boettcher. In conclusion, Aliens in the Attic is an entertaining and enjoyable movie specially for kids, then if you don’t have kids or you’re not one avoid it or wait for it until its on DVD.

    “Paranormal Activity” Movie Review

    “Paranormal Activity” Plot Summary

After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.

    I enjoyed this movie

I caved in and decided to watch this movie, alone with the lights off, on Halloween night. :) The commercials / trailers I’ve seen online and on TV all say that it’s the scariest movie since blah-blah and that people at the theater watching the screener jumped out of their seats, blah blah blah

I liked the acting in this movie and it did make me feel like I was watching a home video. It felt like something from porntube.com except there’s never sex. The two main actors did a fine job portraying a young couple in the prime of their lives, living together

Atmosphere was great, but that goes along with what I said in the first paragraph about the acting. It really did feel like an amateur home movie, except they used a really expensive camera instead of your standard Canon Powershot or at best, Sony Handycam

Emotionally, I will admit, I was scared at a few points. I was scared and I really felt bad for Katie. She’s hot and I hate to see hot women not happy. :) Her boyfriend, I don’t remember his name but he was stupid at certain points. Why men try to be macho, I’ll never know. There were a few points where I felt the blood rush through my body. An awesome feeling for when you’re watching horror, not so awesome when you’re running from the neighborhood thugs

Questions I had to ask myself: why does he always have the camera with him, even when checking for intruders? Why is the bedroom door still open when they go to bed, heard of a lock? Why are they still in this house, machoism? Why is she still sleeping on the side of the bed closest to the door, obviously not machoism? Why has this man gone to bed for two weeks without getting some from this hot chick? I’d recommend this movie to the Hitchcock fan. Slasher and gore fans probably are better off filming their friends dive off a bridge. If you believe in angels and demons, don’t watch this…go to confession and beg for forgiveness for all your sins (I know you have at least a dozen). And if you like porntube.com, definitely watch this and then go right to porntube.com afterward. Let me know if this movie changes your mind about homemade porn.
