“The Shining” Movie Review

“The Shining” Plot Summary

A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

One of the Scariest Movies Of All Time!!!

This is the classic horror! Stanley Kubrick’s Finest! The scariest of the ‘Kubrick Stares’ has to be Jack Nicholson looking through the door in the classic horror scene. The camera, music, acting, and scares are top notch! I highly recommend this movie to: Horror fans, Kubrick fans, psychological thriller fans, and even Nicholson fans. You will love this movie to death! Four out of four stars. A definative classic! SEE IT!

“A Scanner Darkly” Movie Review

“A Scanner Darkly” Plot Summary

An undercover cop in a not-too-distant future becomes involved with a dangerous new drug and begins to lose his own identity as a result.

Imaginative and original

At first glance, you’d think A scanner darkly was style over substance. That is very much wrong. If you peeled away the trippy layers of rotoscoping, you’d still have a very cool and original movie. The writing is really tight and builds up a great and paranoid setting

The characters are very varied. Keanu Reeves, who does a decent job, is a somewhat apathetic washout, a role that fits him well. For all the Keanu-haters out there, I can say that he is not the sole star of the movie. This movie is much more about his friends, a mixed bag of drug-addicts and dopers

Robert Downey Jr. does a fantastic role as the manic, phony-eloquent pseudo-intellectual Barris. He’s very believable and you can’t help get a bit annoyed by him even as you laugh. He has some great lines, and he delivers them superbly

Winona Rider’s Donna is a character we don’t get to see enough of. The scenes she’s in are good, and she certainly looks and acts like a burnout

Rory Cochrane is even more creepy as Freck, the worst case of the little group. You can feel your skin crawling as soon as he goes on-screen. For those who have read the book: Yes, the opening sequence is the same

Then there’s the under-appreciated Woody Harrelson, funny and realistic as Luckman. His burned-out logical jumps and paranoid outbursts are perfect

A benefit of the rotoscoping is that supporting roles can for once look like natural people. Think about it. In your average Hollywood flick, there are professional small parts actors and actresses. The same small group of people perpetually turning up as doctors, gas station attendants, brokers… how real does that feel? I’m sure Linklater doesn’t care anyway, but it just seems more natural with unknowns when they’re drawn. A small point but there might be something to it

The real benefit of the rotoscoping, of course, is that it looks good. Every frame is like a cutout from a graphic novel or some pop art. For a drug movie, you couldn’t ask for anything better. As tempting as it must have been, the animation team has however limited the really trippy sequences to where it matters. All in all, there are only two or three hallucinatory scenes. The general floatiness of the animation, however, gives the movie a fluid and slightly hallucinatory look in general

Combine all of the above and add a healthy dose of paranoid music by Radiohead and you’ve got a cult classic and a great piece of art. Not to be missed by those who appreciate film.

    “The Big Lebowski” Plot Summary

“Dude” Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.

    A True Masterpiece

This movie is sort of like a circus minus the clowns and the freak show; everything about it is attractive and entertaining. The characters are deep and interesting, and even the most minor of characters have their own unique personality. The camera work is ingenious, as are the visuals and costumes. The comedy comes in from all sides, whether subtle, witty, or straightforward. The Coen Brothers use stereotypes and wording like Van Gough used a brush. It is one of those few movies where almost every line is quotable and easily recognizable. Unlike most comedies (if you could call it such) the story is both followable and enjoyable. One of the true masterpieces of our time. If you don’t like this movie, I’m sure you hate to laugh.

    “2012″ Movie Review

    “2012″ Plot Summary

An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

    Great roller-coaster ride

Okay, the first thing I’d like to say is, ignore those comments from members who belong to ‘the worst movie ever club!!’ These members think it is way cool to label every slightly disappointing movie as ‘ the worst movie ever’ and emphasize their juvenility with tons of exclamation marks. They think it is way cool to trash movies.

The movie just isn’t that bad. It’s not that great either so ignore those who gush and tell you how awesome it is and rate it 10 out of 10.

This is a film best viewed in the movie theaters on the largest screen possible to enjoy the thrilling sensation of cities breaking up, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. This is indeed a thrilling roller-coaster ride. It is best to leave your brain at home, however, as you will cringe at the clichГ©s, the schmaltz, and the absurdities. That doesn’t make it the worst film ever, though. So go for the ride and enjoy the CG effects.

    “Basic Instinct” Movie Review

    “Basic Instinct” Plot Summary

A police detective is in charge of the investigation of a brutal murder, in which a beautiful and seductive woman could be involved.

    Excellent, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat mystery/crime/thriller

In my opinion, BASIC INSTINCT is an excellent, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat mystery/crime/thriller. Catherine (Sharon Stone) and Dr. Garner (Jeanne Tripplehorn) were both very beautiful women. The two characters I really couldn’t stand were Roxy (Leilani Sarelle) and Dr. Garner. This was because they were so snobby! Nick (Michael Douglas) was a very attractive, good-looking, strict, and business-like guy in my opinion. I loved his style. The most gruesome and scary part in my opinion was when Johnny Boz (Bill Cable) got murdered. That was almost too gruesome and scary for me to bear, but I managed to sit through it. My favorite part, though, was when Nick yells at Dr. Garner. That was very entertaining. In conclusion, I highly recommend this excellent, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat mystery/crime/thriller to all you Michael Douglas or Sharon Stone fans who have not seen it.

    “Almost Famous” Movie Review

    “Almost Famous” Plot Summary

A high-school boy is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies it on their concert tour.

Probably the best drama I have ever seen

As musical dramas go, this is definitely one of the better; not to say the best. It has a lot of acting talent going for it too; Jason Lee, Anna Paquin, Kate Hudson, Noah Taylor etc. Pretty much every major character is played by a talented actor/actress. The story revolves around a kid, named William Miller, who always seem somewhat outcast. He gets a lucky shot when he is offered to interview his favorite band and follow them on their tour. He starts out trying hard to interview them, but quickly finds out it’s hard enough just trying to keep up with the band. He meets a girl, a groupie who doesn’t admit to being a groupie, and falls in love with her. This is a great movie about the environment of the music of the mid-sixties. A very insightful look into the world of groupies, drugs and rock’n roll. This movie is worth watching for most fans of sixties rock’n roll, people looking to find out more about the environment, or just fans of Cameron Crowe. I gave it a 10/10, and most people will probably find it equally good.

    “Alexander” Movie Review

    “Alexander” Plot Summary

Alexander, the King of Macedonia and one of the greatest military leaders in the history of warfare, conquers much of the known world.

    A GOOD movie

Though many have had very negative things to say about it, I felt that it was a good movie. Watching that Colin, I forgot that he was Colin and started to see Alexander. Just for that I felt that this movie is of some worth. I have to admit some of the lines sent chills down my spin, but the movie on the whole was good. Historically this movie could not have been far off. Pertaining to Alexander’s death, I liked how the cause was left ambiguis. Those that say that Stone butchered History in making this movie I find to be wrong. Though Alexander might not have been blond, why not by the way, much of what was portrayed went against common belief but true to what we have learned of the great conqueror. I guess summed up, this was a GOOD movie, I enjoyed myself, and was able to immerse myself in Stone’s interpretation of the life of a GREAT man.

“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” Movie Review

“The Temple of Doom” Plot Summary

After arriving in India, Indiana Jones is asked by a desperate village to find a mystical stone. He agrees, and stumbles upon a secret cult plotting a terrible plan in the catacombs of an ancient palace.

    Very Good!

The Temple of Doom is the worst of the three original Indiana Jones movies but it’s still great. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Indiana Jones. He travels to the Far East to steal the Ankara Stone and rescue a group of enslaved children from an evil cult. The aspect that lowered my rating is the acting. Harrison Ford is great as always but Kate Capshaw is a bit annoying. She screams way too much for my liking. The Chinese boy is not bad. It’s just hard to understand him. The action is great. I especially liked the action towards the end. The score by John Williams is once again killer. The cinematography could’ve been better. Otherwise, this is a great movie in the Jones series. I rate this movie a 9/10.
