“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” Movie Review

“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” Plot Summary

Four London working class stiffs pool their money to put one in a high stakes card game, but things go wrong and they end up owing half a million pounds and having one week to come up with the cash.

    entertaining

For $8 million, this is a fricking monument of 1990’s film. The first time I saw it I laughed at most of the jokes and followed the plot with pleasure. That’s more than I can say about any number of movies in the 1990’s that cost ten times as much to make and starred pricey talent. The editing is clever and cute. The casting is just short of flawless. Of the four principles, only Bacon seemed consistent to me. The minor parts were sometimes spectacular, esp. Big & Little Chris and Barry the Baptist

There are some legitimate complaints about this movie. The big one is that it doesn’t really go anywhere or mean anything. It seems like an awful lot of flash and talent to end up saying nothing about anything. But um it’s not like Lock, Stock is trying to be anything it isn’t, so maybe it’s not a valid critique after all. Considering how long Tarrantino’s influence has been around, it’s a little unfair to call Ritchie on imitating him. There are some similarities large casts, distinct characters, clever dialogue, rapid shifts in narratives from one string to another and shifting in time, and few other things. I think the problem is that years of dumbing down by Hollywood have almost eliminated all these things. The influence is there certainly, but it would not seem as pronounced if there were any other hugely exposed filmmakers in recent memory that put as much emphasis on dialogue and character besides Tarantino

I haven’t watched MTV since the mid-1980’s, so the style of Lock Stock and Snatch didn’t seem trite to me. Some people I talked to said that the film style was too much like the average car commercial or pop video, which is getting the influence backwards, but I could see how those associations would spoil the experience.

    “Men of Honor” Movie Review

    “Men of Honor” Plot Summary

The story of Carl Brashear, the first African American, then also the first amputee, US Navy Diver and the man who trained him.

    Pretty Good Film!

I think that this film is a good movie. There are some boring parts and some really good parts. Most of the time, I was attached to this movie. Everyone in this movie did a really good job

This film is based on the life of Carl Brashear. He was going to be first at two things. He was going to be the first black Navy diver and the first diver to dive with a prosthetic leg

The acting is really good. I liked Robert De Niro so much. He is a truly deserving actor and he showed what a great actor he is. I liked Cuba Gooding Jr. as Brashear. He gave a memorable performance

Overall, this film is a good movie. Some parts even moved me somewhat especially some scenes towards the end. This is a nice biographical movie. I rate this film 8/10.

“Scent of a Woman” Movie Review

“Scent of a Woman” Plot Summary

A prep school student needing money agrees to “babysit” a blind man, but the job is not at all what he anticipated. add synopsis

Good story, brilliant acting, what more do you want?

This movie once again proves that Pacino is one of the greatest actors of our time and that we all should be very glad he choose to portray Colonel Frank Slade in ‘Scent of a woman’, no one else could have done it. The story of ‘Scent of a woman’ stands and falls with Pacino’s acting and the bringing alive of his character. It’s touching and makes you smile and leaves you behind with the feeling that you’ve just have had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Frank Slade, a crazy but interesting man. Chris O’Donnell does what he has to do, he gives Pacino the opportunity to shine and triggers the story. The interaction between him and Pacino does the job and provides us with great lines. Overall a great movie. I give this one a 8 out of 10.

    “Cinderella Man” Movie Review

    “Cinderella Man” Plot Summary

The story of James Braddock, a supposedly washed up boxer who came back to become a champion and an inspiration in the 1930s.

    Great Movie, a must see!

I just saw the movie tonight at a special advanced screening here in Newport Beach, and it is so good. I cannot tell you one single performance in the film that wasn’t terrific. I can only think of a couple negatives. One being the man coughing behind me the WHOLE time. In terms of the movie, the section where the Braddocks suffer in the Depression went on pretty long, and the Braddock’s kids were WAY too cute. A little shamelessly so. As in, no three kids are that well-behaved,loving and adorable ALL THE TIME. Great points: There were a lot more funny moments than i had expected, but none were cheap laughs, all were just honest and nice little moments. The acting and directing are just incredible. Renee Zellweger, Russel Crowe, Paul Giamatti (who practically steals the show), even Craig Bierko as the boxing nemesis were so great! Oscars FOR EVERYONE! It’s too bad this isn’t Oscar season– i really hope this doesn’t get forgotten by the time nominations come out.
