    “Con Air” Movie Review

    “Con Air” Plot Summary

A newly released ex-con and former US Ranger finds himself trapped in a prisoner transport plane when the passengers seize control.

    Amazing action flick

This film goes beyond the usual boundaries of an action film. The ensemble cast is brilliant. Nicholas Cage and John Cusack play the ex army ranger turned paroled prisoner and FIB agent respectively who have to find a way of working together when psycho Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Grissom takes over a plane of prisoners who are being transferred to a maximum security unit. Cyrus is played brilliantly by the menacing John Malkovich, and he makes the character appear truly evil, down to his cold eyes. This is the sort of role he excels at

There is also an appearance by Steve Buscemi as the Marietta Mangler, a serial killer who first appears in the film strapped to a chair with a mask, a la Hannibal Lecter

Nicholas Cage is also good as a very honourable guy who just wants to get home to his wife and child, but not at the expense of his fellow prisoners

This film is worth watching many times – its entertaining, sometimes funny and altogether brilliant!

    “Hairspray” Movie Review

    “Hairspray” Plot Summary

Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.

    I Am Shocked

I am shocked at how much I liked this movie. When I first heard about it, I wasn’t too excited. I’m not a big fan of musicals and I didn’t think this would make me warm up to them. But I really loved this movie. It was absolutely fantastic. I was forced into seeing this movie and I didn’t expect it to be that good

My sister asked me to take her daughters, Jacqueline and Emma to see the movie and I was a little reluctant to at first, but I eventually agreed to go. It wasn’t as good as Transformers, but it was a ton of fun! My nieces were smiling to the whole movie and so was I. It was just very funny and extremely enjoyable

The whole cast was absolutely superb. Nikki Blonsky has talent. She pulled off the role of Tracy great. Amanda Bynes was great as Tracy’s pal, Penny. I like Amanda, she is a funny girl. John Travolta as Edna, Tracy’s mom. Wow. Pretty good. Michelle Pheiffer and Brittany Snow play snotty mother and daughter, Velma and Amber Von Tussel. They were pretty funny. Christopher Walken is excellent as always. Queen Latifa as Motormouth Maybelle was pretty damn hilarious. Zac Efron as the dreamy Linc Larkin. He was pretty cool. Elijah Kelley as Seaweed was just awesome! The script was pretty awesome. The songs were good and you may find yourself tapping your feet to the music. The dialogue was fun and absolutely hilarious. The characters were very, very likable. You may even grow attached to the antagonists. It was very well written and the cast proved that even more

If you want to have a fun time at the movies, I really recommend Hairspray. Even the guys will love it. The songs, script, and cast were all excellent and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Even though I loathe musicals, this one was great. Go watch it. It’s very entertaining

    “Heat” Movie Review

    “Heat” Plot Summary

A Los Angeles crime saga, “Heat” focuses on the lives of two men on opposite sides of the law – one a detective; the other a thief.

One Of The Best Crime Films Ever

I really believe this is one the great crime movies of all time. It has some drawbacks that wouldn’t make me recommend this for family viewing – tons of f- words by Al Pacino and a few bloody scenes, but as far as a fascinating crime story: wow! This movie made modern-day history because it was the first time two of the great actors of this generation – Pacino and Robert De Niro – finally acted together in the same film. Those two didn’t disappoint, either. They were great to watch and one of the huge highlights of the film, to me, was when they faced each other in a simple conversation over a cup of coffee. That conversation has always fascinated me, no matter how many times I’ve heard it. It was such a ‘landmark’ scene that It’s even the subject of a short documentary on the special-edition DVD.As with the conversation scene, the shootout segment in the streets of Los Angeles still astounds me no matter how many times I see it. The other action scenes are intense and memorable, too, and the cast in here is deep. This isn’t just Pacino and De Niro. It’s Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Jon Voight, Diana Venora, Natlie Portman, Tom Sizemore, Amy Brenamann, Wes Studi, Ted Levine, Mykelti Williamson, on and on. Put that fabulous cast under Michael Mann, one of the best directors in business, add a great soundtrack and interesting camera-work and you have a great film. At three hours long, it never bores one and at same time, doesn’t overdo the action, either. I read one critic criticize this film because of the time taken to examine the personal lives of the main characters, but you can’t have three hours of nothing but action. The only scene I felt went on a bit too long was the ending chase at the airport, but that’s nitpicking considering the film as a whole

This is just one of those movies where a great cast and director live up to their billing.

    “Forrest Gump” Plot Summary

Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny, eludes him.

One of the best films of the 90’s

Winston Groom’s Forrest Gump was a novel that was complicated, but (Oscar winning) director Robert Zemeckis brings events together with visual effects that boggle even George Lucas.

And leading the film in this odyssey of American life is Tom Hanks playing Gump (he won his second Oscar for his portrayal) in a film that shows one man who goes through many events in history to find the one he loves. Well done, well acted, and well directed to pythagorean procision. A++

    “August Rush” Movie Review

    “August Rush” Plot Summary

A drama with fairy tale elements, where an orphaned musical prodigy uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents.

    Excellent comedy!

Watched this film last night with my wife and 17 year old daughter. It was unbelievably predictable and sappy. I understand filmmakers need to take some creative license, but the coincidences portrayed in this film are way beyond far-fetched

It doesn’t get any funnier than a smiling 4′9′ Freddie Highmore dressed in a tux leading the NY Philarmonic Orchestra in Central Park. Now that’s comedic genius! When the movie ended, several people in the audience (including the three of us) were laughing out loud

Holy cow…to think I paid for three tickets to see this trite mess! Should have stayed home and watched the Kansas-Missou game

Gave it a two since I like NYC and Greenwich Village.

    Very Entertaining

When i was reading through the comments below, i was really disappointed by the comments and reviews people gave. They just don’t understand the purpose of this movie. It is true that this movie doesn’t contain any moral values, but the question is, SO WHAT? A good movie doesn’t have to teach us morals or give us a lesson. Since when do you guys watch movies to learn about morals? Even though it will be advantageous to watch a movie that has a message, it is not required for a good movie. The reason why i give this movie 10/10 is because the plot was very witty and entertaining. The ending was very unpredictable and very satisfying. It is one of those movies that you will not understand the whole plot or the genius of the movie till the end. It’s the very end that makes the movie exceptional. In most movies, you will be able to guess the ending, or the ending won’t be that shocking. But this movie brings out a different approach. It is only one of its kind, so if you like movies that keeps you thinking, you don’t want to miss this one.

    “Ali” Movie Review

    “Ali” Plot Summary

A biography of sports legend, Muhammad Ali, from his early days to his days in the ring. add synopsis

The Greatest of All Times – Ali

In this true story about the life of Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali, director Michael Mann does a great job of bringing Ali’s personality to life by casting Will Smith for the title role. This movie takes you through the accounts of Ali’s life showing you how he became ‘The Greatest’ including his title fight with Sonny Liston (Michael Bentt), his decision to follow the Nation of Islam, personal triumphs and defeats with marriage, being banned from boxing, and the famous ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ against George Foreman (Charles Shufford).

Although the movie did a pretty good job of depicting Ali’s life by the use of non linear structure and showing the complexity of human relationships, I felt it would have been a little more interesting if it would have shown more about his connection to Malcolm X (Mario Van Peebles) and the Nation of Islam since he is a devout Muslim

The movie shows the heart and determination of Ali and his quest for being the greatest boxer of all times by the vigorous workouts and strict training regiments by his trainer/cornerman Drew ‘Bundini’ Brown (Jamie Foxx) with the use of deep focus in a lot of the shots where the two of the had conversations and extreme close up shots of Ali’s face during his fights when he was sent to his corner, especially of his eyes

The intensity of the workouts and the actual fights made you feel like you were right amongst the action, similar to the portrayal of Denzel Washington as Reuben ‘The Hurricane’ Carter in his life story

It shows his playful humor with his opponents, often calling them names, taunting them about being so ugly and his colleague, Howard Cosell (Jon Voight) whom he shares a close relationship with and always teased about snatching his toupee off of his head and how much prettier he was than Howard

In his personal life, Ali goes through a series of marriages with Sonji Roi (Jada Pinkett Smith), Belinda Ali (Nona Gaye) and Veronica Porche (Michael Michelle) and being banished from boxing for not participating in the Vietnam War

Overall, the movie was a pretty decent portrayal of Ali’s career and personal life, showing the highs and lows, personal triumphs and ultimate victory of one mans quest to be the ‘Greatest of All Times’ through hard work, being focused, dedication, love, and friendship with some tears, laughter and playful banter.
