    “Grease” Movie Review

    “Grease” Plot Summary

Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fell in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance?

One of the best musicals brought to the big screen.

Although it is old, Grease is still loved and watching by adults and children alike. Once you watch Grease you just want to get up and dance! Grease is the story of bad-boy Danny and good-girl Sandy meeting each other over summer break then happen to returning to the same school. There’s a great mix of kids, they all are very different and have one thing that separates them very much from each other. There’s a great mix of songs too; slow and very fast. Also, the dancing is amazing. The end also blows your mind and just makes you so astonished, but in such a good way. The up-beat fun never stops and makes you want to watch the movie again and again. Grease is a definite must see for everyone!

    “Million Dollar Baby” Movie Review

    “Million Dollar Baby” Plot Summary

A hardened trainer/manager works with a determined woman in her attempt to establish herself as a boxer.

Beautifully acted, beautifully shot, intimate and profound

The thing that initially struck me about Million Dollar Baby was that it was beautifully shot, making excellent use of light and shade, close and far perspectives, angle and slow-motion. Within these techniques, which are used for effect and not over-used to show off, the simple narrative was able to take shape, performed by actors who appreciated its depth and subtlety, so played their roles with reserved emotion and calm understatement that fit their characters perfectly. Lesser performers would’ve made a botch of the roles that Eastwood and Swank crafted to near-perfection

The movie concerns itself with boxing but is not a boxing movie, rather that’s just the vehicle for its main themes: hope, dreams, determination, success and then loss. Still, it would be facile and glib to ‘use’ boxing in this way and then just gloss over its intricacies… this is where Morgan Freeman’s earthy narration comes into play, telling us all there is to know about training boxers in that same assuring way he told us about Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption. So we can chart Maggie’s progress without the characters having to pause and explain what’s going on, and Swank herself – playing the role with layers of nervousness, exuberance, doggedness and zeal – provides the perfect canvas for us to see these changes

The main narrative is simple so shouldn’t be spoiled, however other subplots are constantly at work throughout the movie: Eddie’s own career and his relationship with Frankie, Maggie’s poor background and her relationship with her abhorrent family, Frankie’s long-lost daughter and his taunting interplay with his local priest. None of these runs away with or smothers the movie, nor are they followed through to much conclusion, but they provide intriguing depth to the three main characters as we come to know them in the shadowy expanse of Frankie’s boxing gym. Million Dollar Baby shows you that great films do not need a convoluted storyline or a supercilious screenplay, just great actors and a great cinematographer.

“Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” Movie Review

“Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” Plot Summary

When Dr. Henry Jones Sr. suddenly goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, eminent archaeologist Indiana Jones must follow in his father’s footsteps and stop the Nazis.

    As great as Raiders

The third film of the series is virtually as great and as entertaining as Raider of the Lost Ark. We get to see Indy on a ‘quest’ to find the Holy Grail, which is even rarer than the Ark of Covenant and the Ankara Stones. In fact, this one is Indy’s most challenging adventure yet. To add more greatness to the cast, we get to meet Indy’s father Henry Jones Sr. (played by Sean Connery of James Bond-fame). Seeing Harrison Ford and Sean Connery as father and son gave me that ‘James Bond is Indy’s father’ kind of feeling

The film’s action scenes are great to watch! Spielberg’s directing formulated the action to a higher level than that of the Temple of Doom. In fact, I find the action here the most exciting yet. Overall, The Last Crusade is one of the best movies ever made with action and adventure. It’s right beside Raiders of the Lost Ark on top.

“Blood: The Last Vampire” Movie Review

“Blood: The Last Vampire” Plot Summary

A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon in disguise. |

    Blood:The Last Vampire

After WWII in Japan, it is shown that there are powerful demons which can assume human form yet have no soul. What makes Saya(Gianna Jun) unique is that she is a ‘half-ling’, part demon, part human. We come to understand that Saya’s father was a great warrior, a demon slayer who must’ve fell in love with the very thing he hated, a hybrid spawn resulting from this unusual union. Saya was raised by her father’s retainer, Kato(Yasuaki Kurata), himself a great warrior who taught her how to fight, using her ‘disadvantage’ regarding the demon side as an advantage, developing a skill of swordplay which makes her a threat to the monsters..her target is Onigan(Koyuki), a female demon, the oldest and most powerful, the one who not only killed her father but sent her henchman and a host of goons to assassinate Kato. Saya works for a covert American group known as the Agency, their objective remains to annihilate the demon uprising, in order to protect the human race. Enter teenager Alice(Allison Miller), the daughter of a General(Larry Lamb) who is over a base stationed in Japan. Alice is rescued by Saya who was sent into the military base’s school to uncover demons masquerading as students. Soon the Agency and military butt heads when Saya finishes off the demons and Alice continues to profess her claims that the two students in her class were killed, her General father unwilling to except such a fantastic story as the one she tells. When the General pokes his nose in too far, one of the Agency’s chief officers eliminates the threat to their mission, in the hopes of silencing any chance of ruining their secret operation. Soon, Saya and Alice form a friendly pact, saving each other’s lives along the way, having to fight off Agency hit men and demons as well.

What could’ve been a smashing action film is completely eviscerated by an over-reliance on CGI, particularly the blood. There’s some fantastic camera work and the action sequences are set up to be breathtaking, upended by CGI at every turn..never once, does the film escape it’s artificiality. I’m a Lady Snowblood guy. I love practical effects when it comes to a female warrior slaying villains. Nothing wrong with the casting of Jun as Saya or Miller as her ally Alice, but Blood:The Last Vampire reeks of Hollywood. It looks tailored to an American audience with my worst fears realized. It looks and feels like a Hollywood movie. I watch these movies for their distinctive ‘Japanese’ aesthetic, the willingness to go way out there in regards to violence, using practical methods produced by hands and materials not manufactured by a computer. When I see a sword slice into the enemy I want geysers of thick, textured film blood, gushing all over the place. Arterial spray flowing like a fountain without end. Puddles of bright red crimson pouring forth. Not this manufactured computer generated crap passed off as blood which isn’t the least bit convincing. Neither are the scenes where body parts are hacked off or necks ripped open. There’s an entire scene where Alice and Saya are driving a truck, swerving on a road which winds around a mountain, dealing with a winged one-eyed demon(..this demon was a victim of Saya’s, the one responsible for killing Kato)that never once achieves even a sense of realism. This whole movie is essentially a video game with live action characters within. I’ve seen a great many movies with Japanese female assassins, equipped with the ability to combat an innumerable amount of enemy forces, impressively gifted with a Katana sword, and the good ones have an air of believability no matter how preposterous the situation might be(..as well as those Samurai movies where a male warrior would massacre an army before succumbing to his fatal wounds). But, in this movie’s case, the use of CGI is so frequent that it removes the thrill of seeing humans in bitter conflict. You get plenty of violence and bodies are often thrown through walls. If you are fine with movies that look and feel like something you’d play on Nintendo, then this is for you. As for yours truly, I’ll just watch Sex & Fury instead. I will say that I’m gonna keep an eye our for Allison Miller, for she has a lot of potential.

    “Dead Man” Plot Summary

On the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange Indian named “Nobody” who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world. add synopsis

A perfect full stop to a great genre

This is what I call ‘first class’. Music, picture, dialogues, atmosphere, the actors’ play I like it all. What I do no like is that at least one scene could be easily moved to ‘deleted scenes’ section, while all the deleted scenes should be put into the film. You don’t have to be a fortune-teller to understand what ‘one scene’ I mean

It is always enjoyable when the film is opened wide for interpretations. This is the case. When does Blake die? Where is he travelling? Is it reality? Who is that cannibal? Why is he being hit by an arrow? Who is that ‘Nobody’? Where is Blake heading? Being myself a bit of a guitar player I really enjoy the score. It adds a lot to the freaky pace of the film and creates the bizarre atmosphere

Great job, Mr Jim Jarmusch. But 9 out of 10 because of the existence of something extra and the absence of something vital and important. Thank you for attention.

    “Deep Blue Sea” Plot Summary

Searching for a cure to Alzheimer’s disease a group of scientists on an isolated research facility become the bait as a trio of intelligent sharks fight back. add synopsis

    A survivalist’s dream!

A team of doctors, scientists and other professionals are sent to a remote research facility to study sharks in the hopes of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. But the Bio-engineered sharks soon use their newly acquired intelligence to try and outsmart their human counterparts. One by one the team, a cast that includes Michael Rapaport, LL Cool J, Samuel L Jackson, Saffron Burrows amongst others, begin to be eliminated one by one as a struggle for survival begins when the sharks sabotage the facility by causing it to deliberately flood so that they (the sharks) can escape into the open sea. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and thriller aspects of the film, it wasn’t too gory (compared to some other films) but the script as well as certain situations were very annoying and not to mention predictable.
