“Up in the Air” Movie Review
“Up in the Air” Plot Summary
With a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, Ryan Bingham leads an empty life out of a suitcase, until his company does the unexpected: ground him.
A Very Significant Film.
I’m not a particularly big fan of romantic comedies but after hearing positive feedback from the critics (Particularry Roger Ebert) and that it had themes of our economic recession I felt that that it wouldn’t hurt to see it, My expectations were surpassed and it is now, in my opinion, one of the best films of the year
Ryan Bingham is an socially isolated Corprate downsizing expert whom also gives motivational speeches on how to ‘unpack your backpack’ which is essentially a metaphor for people and things in life holding you back from your dreams (I can relate to his character because I tend to isolate myself too), When a young naive woman comes up with a way of conveniently firing people online with no travel costs, Bingham must teach Kendrick’s character the dignity of their work, being there for them rather than coldly firing them on a messaging device. Clooney’s Character was compelling and his performance brilliant, Vera Farmiga & Anna Kendrick also played convincing roles but Clooney’s cynical performance stole the show though as the film progressed he showed a more emotional human side to him which makes me feel he deserves a nomination for Best Actor
The best element in this film is the screenplay, It intelligently blends cynical pessimistic wit and emotional drama in a very unique way that I rather enjoyed, I hope it gets some recognition at the Oscars a win, if not a nomination
This film contains themes of human relationships, life choices, the indoctrination of technology in our society, isolation, family support and our economic recession and the themes are not blatantly shoved down our throats. This film is smart, witty and emotional. In my opinion this film is one of the best films of the year, 8/10.

“Sweet Home Alabama” Movie Review
“Sweet Home Alabama” Plot Summary
A young woman with a white trash background runs away from her husband in Alabama and reinvents herself as a New York socialite.
A Light Comedy That Anyone Can Enjoy
Sweet Home Alabama was a sweet and enjoyable little movie. It’s just meant for entertainment like a lot of other films and that’s exactly what this movie did, entertain. It doesn’t have to have a deep to the heart beautiful story line to be a good movie. Reese Witherspoon did wonderful in her part and so did Patrick Wilson. I loved watching her be so rude and preppy in ‘The Heart Of Dixie,’ and there are a lot of laugh out loud moments in this film, such as, when they went to the bar and she is ‘reunited’ per say with a lot of her old friends, and the part where she first sees Jake(Wilson) for the very first time. Overall, Sweet Home Alabama should just be watched for fun. Don’t be expecting too much of it.

“Flags of Our Fathers” Movie Review
“Flags of Our Fathers” Plot Summary
The life stories of the six men who raised the flag at The Battle of Iwo Jima, a turning point in WWII.
Best movie in years – worthy of Academy Awards
‘Flags of our Fathers’ is the powerful and moving true story of what happened to the three survivors of the six men that raised the flag on Iwo Jima as immortalized in the Marine Corps Memorial
The editing of this film, utilizing flashbacks and showing how something as simple as a lightning bolt flashing can bring back memories that haunt veterans of combat is very true to life. My wife is a nurse at a Veterans Home – thunder claps in the middle of the night will invariably bring out cries from the sleeping combat veterans
What is also true to life is how these men – Rene Gagnon, Ira Hayes, and John Bradley – did not see themselves to be heroes. They felt that the heroes were those who had fallen on Iwo Jima – yet the public was continually holding them up to be more than they thought they were. This is shown very well when James Bradley is going through the box of his fathers possessions and pulls out an envelope with the Navy Cross stuffed in it. The Navy Cross is one step down from the Medal of Honor and is awarded for extraordinary heroism in combat – normally one who earned it would put it on display
The use of sepia tone at times – plus the sheer starkness of the black sands with the stark white of flares – gave this film a look that was very compelling. As far as how emotional of a movie this was shown in the theatre where I saw it – which was a full theatre on Veterans Day. At the end of the movie, the credits started rolling – and no one stood up. A lot of noses were being blown and tears were being shed, but no comments were made at all – this movie affected the audience that much
I consider this to be equal to Citizen Kane as far as quality movies are concerned. This isn’t light entertainment.
