“Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” Movie Review

“Star Trek V” Plot Summary

Capt. Kirk and his crew must deal with Mr. Spock’s half brother who hijacks the Enterprise for an obsessive search for God. add synopsis

Great!

I didn’t like this movie when I first saw it, but I rented it today because I’ve been watching the earlier movies and wanted to see it too. I love this movie because of all the ST movies, this one reminds me of an episode of ST. I think Shatner did a good job and made the right choices by emphasizing the characters again vs. a lot of F/X and spacefights. The only thing is that some of the effects are a little ‘cheap,’ but that’s not such a big deal. The movie works for me.

    “Jackie Brown” Movie Review

    “Jackie Brown” Plot Summary

A female flight attendant becomes a key figure in a plot between the police and an arms dealer. add synopsis

Personally, I find it to be Quentin Tarantino Masterpiece

Sometimes a movie requires more than one viewing. The first time I sat down to watch Jackie Brown, I wasn’t so impressed. I didn’t hate the movie, but I didn’t love it either. I thought it was decent. The second time I watched it, I knew the plot already so I really got to indulge in the characters of the film. And thats exactly what the film is, it’s a character piece

Those of you who expect an energetic, stylized, violent, comic book-esquire film like Pulp Fiction will not get that from this movie. Its a lot more tamed, and to say the least realistic. I love Pulp Fiction, its one of my all time favorite movies. But I doubt in the real world there would be two hit men in matching black and white suits. The scenarios of that movie, while fun and totally entertaining, aren’t too realistic. Jackie Brown on the other hand has totally real characters that don’t come off as too over the top

All the actors in the movie are superb

The lead is played by actress Pam Grier who nails the role. Tarantino again shows you don’t need an a-list actor to carry a movie. Grier plays Jackie Brown, an airline stuartess in her 40s. Samuel L. Jackson plays Ordell Robbie, a gun dealer who uses Jackie to bring him in money from Mexico. Robert DeNiro (in a smaller role for such a big actor) plays Louis, Ordell’s friend who recent got out of jail. Bridget Fonda plays Melanie, a ‘blonde haired surfer girl’ who lives with Ordell. Michael Keaton (my all time favorite actor)plays ATF agent Ray Nicollette who wants to take down Ordell. And Robert Forster plays Max Cherry, a bail bonds man. Without giving too much away, all of these characters in one way or another are all after $500,000 of Ordell’s money. Every character in this movie is great and unique in their own way. But for me, Robert Forster steals the show. Max Cherry is without a doubt my favorite character in all of Quentin Tarantino’s movies

To some people, this movie is just a crime/heist movie. But to me there is something quite beautiful to this movie. After a few viewings of the film, you will notice that underneath it all, this movie is really about two people. Jackie Brown and Max Cherry. Two people who are middle aged, lonely, and tired of their dead end jobs. Two people that meet in a very unlikely way. Two people that together figure out a way to steal $500,000 and get away with it. Take this movie however you want it. But to me, thats the heart of the movie, and thats why the movie works so well

In conclusion, Jackie Brown is not a graphic crime story like Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction that preceded it. Nor is it a stylized revenge saga like Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 that followed it. Instead it is a stand alone film. A wonderfully acted character study. And for me, an absolute gem of a film. It’s Quentin Tarantino’s underrated MASTERPIECE.

    “Cinderella Man” Movie Review

    “Cinderella Man” Plot Summary

The story of James Braddock, a supposedly washed up boxer who came back to become a champion and an inspiration in the 1930s.

    Great Movie, a must see!

I just saw the movie tonight at a special advanced screening here in Newport Beach, and it is so good. I cannot tell you one single performance in the film that wasn’t terrific. I can only think of a couple negatives. One being the man coughing behind me the WHOLE time. In terms of the movie, the section where the Braddocks suffer in the Depression went on pretty long, and the Braddock’s kids were WAY too cute. A little shamelessly so. As in, no three kids are that well-behaved,loving and adorable ALL THE TIME. Great points: There were a lot more funny moments than i had expected, but none were cheap laughs, all were just honest and nice little moments. The acting and directing are just incredible. Renee Zellweger, Russel Crowe, Paul Giamatti (who practically steals the show), even Craig Bierko as the boxing nemesis were so great! Oscars FOR EVERYONE! It’s too bad this isn’t Oscar season– i really hope this doesn’t get forgotten by the time nominations come out.

“The Legend of Zorro” Movie Review

    “Zorro” Plot Summary

Despite trying to keep his swashbuckling to a minimum, a threat to California’s pending statehood causes the adventure-loving Alejandro de la Vega (Banderas) — and his wife, Elena (Zeta-Jones) — to take action. add synopsis

    Worth the 7-year wait

Someone needs to defend ‘the legend of Zorro’. I am reading all kinds of reviews which criticize this movie for very minor details, when, in fact, this movie is really just trying to have fun

First – ‘Legend of Zorro’ is nothing at all like the ‘Spy Kids’ junk, which critics claim to see remarkable similarities. Yes, we know Antonio Banderas was in both films, and in both films his kids come to save the day…but the similarities stop there. The young actor they found to play Joaquin isn’t there to be scenery, but is involved in the story like any other character, and even better – he’s not painful to watch act (and he’s got some great dialogue, too).

Second – I enjoyed the fact that the storyline did not become a predictable, routine sequel. If we waited seven years to just watch Zorro fight another bad guy while mom & son stayed home…I would be angry. But the story used Elena and Joaquin in very creative ways. The only way its predictable is that Zorro saves the day – but just as to how he gets there, I never saw it coming

Third – I will admit, this is nowhere near the same level-of-quality that we saw in ‘Mask of Zorro’. They set the bar far too high (and they let two other jerks BESIDES Ted Elliot & Terry Rossario write the movie). The comic relief was at times excessive, there were a few unnecessary Zorro backflips, leaps, and jumps in the fight scenes…but how can you absolutely dismiss a sequel for not being perfect? ‘The Legend of Zorro’ met my expectations for a sequel, though did not surpass them. I still consider ‘the Mask of Zorro’ to be THE BEST action/adventure film of the last 20 years. But to say ‘Legend’ was outright horrible is just not fair. This is meant to be fun escapism, set in a beautiful 1850’s California, starring actors who clearly are having a fun time, filled with sword fights, evil villains, great chases, and a clever story

Its only unforgivable sin was not finding one ‘in’ – any ‘in’ – that allowed Anthony Hopkins a cameo (like a flashback or a dream or something).

    “Friday the 13th” Movie Review

    “Friday the 13th” Plot Summary

Camp counselors are stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to re-open a summer camp that was the site of a child’s drowning.

The film that started it all

Friday the 13th, as we all know, it’s the film that started it all when it came to one of the most memorable boogeymen, Jason Vorhees. I’m afraid though that this isn’t the film that he stars in, it’s actually his mother that started the whole ‘have sex and die’ sacred rule of horror movies. Friday the 13th has kind of a harsh rating here on IMDb, this is a classic in some sense I think, it’s the ultimate sleepover movie and still gives me a little scare when I watch it in the dark. Friday the 13th also started the cheesy acting, un-needed sex scenes, blood, and gore; wither that’s a good or bad thing, I’m still not sure, but one thing that Friday the 13th does deliver is awesome death scenes that will never disappoint. It’ll also make you think twice about going to camp

A group of young adults are opening up Camp Crystal Lake after 20 years, the place has been dubbed as a cursed camp where two young counselors were brutally murdered and a young boy drowned. But the group continues getting the camp ready, but when a nasty storm ensues, the group separates and does their own thing. But one by one, they keep disappearing, but when Alice, one of the camp counselors is concerned with how everyone is not returning, she goes to find a nasty discovery and will have to survive the most terrifying night of her life

Friday the 13th is a memorable film in it’s own right, I know that the performances are horrible, I mean, this is no Halloween, but it’s a different concept and scared a lot of people. I remember it scared me as a kid to go to camp, that’s for sure. But it has tense music and very scary scenes and it keeps the best going, along with a huge amount of sequels to come, we’re up to 20, right? LOL, just kidding, it’s only 10 that I’m aware of, but I would recommend Friday the 13th for the horror fans, it’s always a fun movie to watch.7/10
