“The Rocker” Movie Review
“The Rocker” Plot Summary
The Rocker tells the story of a failed drummer who is given a second chance at fame. Robert “Fish” Fishman…
Surprisingly enjoyable
The best news here is that Christina Applegate is still hot and Rainn Wilson has escaped from ‘The Office’ effectively. He is a comedic talent with promise
This is a tight little flick that works for what is is. The story flows well and the cast works together comfortably. Looks like they enjoyed the project
The directing and editing are spot-on. This simple low-budget comedy is very well done
There should be another set of awards for films like this. Not Oscars (maybe Felixes), for meticulously crafted smaller films that do what films are supposed to do – entertain.

“Pretty Woman” Movie Review
“Pretty Woman” Plot Summary
A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets… only to fall in love.
A winning romantic comedy.
Garry Marshall may not be the most interesting director working in Hollywood, but his movies are definitely entertaining, and in that sense he is successful. Perhaps his two greatest films, which also are the ones he’ll most likely be remembered for, are ‘Beaches’ and ‘Pretty Woman’. One of the most commercially successful (almost $500m worldwide!!) romantic comedies of all time,’Pretty Woman’ is a charming modern day fairy tale that works largely in part to the phenomenal on-screen chemistry between its two stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. In an Academy Award nominated performance as Vivian Ward, Julia Roberts truly shines. Her screen presence is nothing short of radiating, not to mention she’s a highly skilled comedic actress. The film also owes a lot to its equally strong supporting performances from Jason Alexander, Laura San Giacomo and Hector Elizondo. All cliches aside, it’s highly enjoyable and stands up superbly even after repeated viewings, a definite 10/10.

“Starship Troopers” Plot Summary
Humans of a fascistic, militaristic future do battle with giant alien bugs in a fight for survival.
Great
Starship Troopers is a truly excellent film based on dark humour and great amounts of action and violence
Its effects were great for its time and great amount of tought were put into making this movie
Its unique story line is what separates this from the rest of your typical sci-fi films
Its use of advanced weaponry and other military style objects is of excellent quality. Although some parts of it were very unrealistic, it just goes to show how far man can go and the achievements it would succeed in technology
Also its comedy side of it would be more inclined to go towards the male counterpart as it can be a dark sense of humour

“Hairspray” Movie Review
“Hairspray” Plot Summary
Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.
I Am Shocked
I am shocked at how much I liked this movie. When I first heard about it, I wasn’t too excited. I’m not a big fan of musicals and I didn’t think this would make me warm up to them. But I really loved this movie. It was absolutely fantastic. I was forced into seeing this movie and I didn’t expect it to be that good
My sister asked me to take her daughters, Jacqueline and Emma to see the movie and I was a little reluctant to at first, but I eventually agreed to go. It wasn’t as good as Transformers, but it was a ton of fun! My nieces were smiling to the whole movie and so was I. It was just very funny and extremely enjoyable
The whole cast was absolutely superb. Nikki Blonsky has talent. She pulled off the role of Tracy great. Amanda Bynes was great as Tracy’s pal, Penny. I like Amanda, she is a funny girl. John Travolta as Edna, Tracy’s mom. Wow. Pretty good. Michelle Pheiffer and Brittany Snow play snotty mother and daughter, Velma and Amber Von Tussel. They were pretty funny. Christopher Walken is excellent as always. Queen Latifa as Motormouth Maybelle was pretty damn hilarious. Zac Efron as the dreamy Linc Larkin. He was pretty cool. Elijah Kelley as Seaweed was just awesome! The script was pretty awesome. The songs were good and you may find yourself tapping your feet to the music. The dialogue was fun and absolutely hilarious. The characters were very, very likable. You may even grow attached to the antagonists. It was very well written and the cast proved that even more
If you want to have a fun time at the movies, I really recommend Hairspray. Even the guys will love it. The songs, script, and cast were all excellent and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Even though I loathe musicals, this one was great. Go watch it. It’s very entertaining

“Appaloosa” Movie Review
“Appaloosa” Plot Summary
Two friends hired to police a small town that is suffering under the rule of a rancher find their job complicated by the arrival of a young widow.
Good, solid, old-fashioned western.
Appaloosa is a very old-fashioned western. It does not fit in line with the more recent flux of modern-day westerns such as Assassination of Jesse James, There Will Be Blood, and (to some extent) No Country For Old Men. The most recent comparison that I can think of is 2004’s Open Range, which in my mind, was the superior of the two. This is not to say that I did not enjoy the film. Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen have great on-screen chemistry and there are plenty of humorous moments between the two characters. The film also delivers on the expected quota of shoot-outs that any western fan would appreciate. When they happen they happen fast, a fact that is amusingly observed by the two leads during one devastating gun battle. The problem with this film is that everything seems overly familiar. Though I cannot always pinpoint where I have seen particular scenes before, I still feel that I have seen them, and you are never in any doubt as to where the film is heading. I went in to this film not knowing that it was an adaptation of a novel. After also hearing that it is a very ‘faithful’ adaptation I am led to believe that any narrative familiarity is most likely the fault of the source material and not that of Ed Harris, who of course co-wrote the the screenplay. As it stands, Harris’ direction is handled very nicely, and the film certainly looks beautiful enough. The only other gripe I have is the casting of Renee Zellweger. I have nothing against her personally. She’s a fine actress who has proved herself many times with the likes of Cold Mountain, Bridget Jones, and Chicago. But she does not fit in the role she is given here and I spent most of her screen time wishing someone else in the part. Despite these grumbles Appaloosa is a well made example of the genre that probably deserves more recognition than the average Friday night pop-corn trash that Hollywood has a tendency to put out.

“Rescue Dawn” Movie Review
“Rescue Dawn” Plot Summary
A US Fighter pilot’s epic struggle of survival after being shot down on a mission over Laos during the Vietnam War.
Best movie of the year
It really was the best movie I’ve seen all year- narrowly beating The Departed (VERY narrow indeed).
I saw this at the second showing, so I wasn’t there for Bale or Davies or Herzog, but the movie was obviously worth it. I am very eagerly anticipating its theatrical release. Oscar buzz is good for this so far, but I’m afraid with the release date set for early 2007 that might not happen
Herzog expertly adapted his documentary into a full-fledged narrative that is both thrilling and heartbreaking (Steve Zahn… How awesome). This is worth every penny you pay for the ticket
See it ASAP.

“Liar Liar” Movie Review
“Liar Liar” Plot Summary
A fast track lawyer can’t lie for 24 hours due to his son’s birthday wish after the lawyer turns his son down for the last time.
The best comedy of 1997!
‘Liar, Liar’ was easily the best comedy of 1997. When I saw this when it first came out in theaters I was literally laughing my head off. Jim Carrey gives the best comic performance of his career here as Fletcher Reede, a fast-talking lawyer who’s always lying. His son Max doesn’t like this one bit. Fletcher promises Max that he’ll be at his 5th birthday party. But Fletcher calls and tells his ex-wife Audrey that he can’t make it because at the moment he’s being seduced by a female partner. Max has had enough. His birthday wish: for one day his father can’t tell a lie. And it miraculously comes true! And this is where the movie gets explosively funny. This is the beginning of a long and crazy day for Fletcher. He gets in trouble left and right. Everyone around him thinks he’s going crazy. And the habitual liar continuously makes a complete fool of himself. Carrey is the whole show here in what has got to be the craziest, nuttiest, silliest, goofiest, and downright best comic performance of his career. And he’s got a terrific cast of actors to support him. Maura Tierney and Justin Cooper shine in the main supporting roles as Audrey and Max, respectably. Swoosie Kurtz, Jennifer Tilly, Amanda Donohoe, Anne Haney, Cary Elwes, Mitchell Ryan, and the late Jason Bernard also generate laughs amongst the craziness. ‘Liar, Liar’ is one extremely funny comedy directed by Tom Shadyac who directed another crazy comedy, the aptly titled remake ‘The Nutty Professor’. ‘Liar, Liar’ has lots of big laughs and I enjoyed it alot. One of the best comedies of all-time.**** (out of four)

“What Women Want” Movie Review
“What Women Want” Plot Summary
After an accident, a chauvenistic executive gains the ability to hear what women are really thinking. add synopsis
Charming and amusingly funny. Gibson and Hunt are a cute couple–but a bad ending. *** (out of four)
WHAT WOMEN WANT / (2000) *** (out of four) By Blake French:In the year 2000 alone, Mel Gibson portrayed a colonial-times rebel in ‘The Patriot,’ arrogant poultry in ‘Chicken Run,’ and now a hotshot chauvinist in Nancy Meyers’ new romantic comedy ‘What Women Want.’ Mel Gibson has slick, suave charm and electric charisma in the role of a self-confident advertising executive. All of his seemingly natural talents combine to create a funny, entertaining character named Nick Marshall. The adorable Helen Hunt has the same amiable traits as her irresistible co-star as she lights up the screen with a gentle personality and glowing elegance. With a respectable supporting cast, including Marisa Tommei, Alan Alda, Lauren Holly, and Bette Midler, it is hard to imagine how ‘WhatWomen Want’ could have failed to entertain audiences
Nick Marshal obviously does not know what women want. He was raised as a testosterone-based bachelor, with the idea that he is the world’s gift to all females. As a rich executive on the verge of a big promotion from his boss, Dan Wanamaker (Alan Alda), he is not pleased when a young, ambitious woman named Darcy Maguire (Helen Hunt) gets the position instead of him. To make matters worse for Nick, his ex-wife (Lauren Holly) has just remarried, leaving him their somewhat rebellious fifteen year old daughter for two weeks, and his attempts to bed a coffee shop employee named Lola (Marisa Tomei) are continuing to fail
Everything changes for Nick after he experiences an accidental electrical shock that leaves him with the ability to read the minds of any female person. He abruptly pays a visit to his former marriage counselor (Bette Midler) who wakes him up on his unique gift that could be used to his advantage. He immediately takes charge of his new gift; it is interesting, funny, and always amusing to witness his reactions to women’s personal thoughts and desires. The screenwriters take full use of the comic material, and use it selectively and wisely; the humor never gets in the way of the movie’s message about a modern-day ladies man. By the end of the movie, Nick is a much better person than he was at the beginning of the story.’What Women Want’ is written with a sharp edge; the dialogue is poignant and sassy, the characters are witty, sexy, and often hilarious. However, there is also a positively sweet sentiment holding all of the material together and helping the story flow smoothly. There is plenty of effective comic content here, naturally revolving around Nick’s ability to read the women’s minds. The movie also develops Gibson’s character well, and the lessons he learns about women are never too preachy or emotional to turn audiences off to the light-hearted humor. I also liked the unique direction by Nancy Meyers, whose style is keen and slick, sometimes taking the point of view of the woman in focus, allowing us to experience a variety of perspectives. She and writers Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa provide the leads with a lot of juicy material, and they take advantage of it all.’What Women Want’ falls into the usual pattern of concluding in a conventionally sweet, happy ending. The final romantic sequence feels contrived and unconvincing, unsettling, like a meet cute during a disappointing finally. Even the smiling faces of Helen Hunt and Mel Gibson cannot save a conclusion that is confusing and perplexing. After the movie, I asked a handful of audience members of their interpretation on the closing, and I got a handful of different responses, only one actually cleared up the whole situation for me. What a umbrage to a generally enjoyable romantic comedy.

“A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2″ Plot Summary
A teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by Freddy Krueger who is out to possess him to continue his murdering in the real world. add synopsis
Better then Freddy Dead
I love nightmare on elm street, it’s one of the best horror movies to come in the 80’s, It gave us the new horror Icon Freddy
The plot A new family moves into the house on Elm Street, and before long, the kids are again having nightmares about deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger. This time, Freddy attempts to possess a teenage boy to cause havoc in the real world, and can only be overcome if the boy’s sweetheart can master her fear
What I didn’t like about this movie is that there was just to much talk talk going on with everything but somehow they still made it entertaining to watch
The acting is this movie was really dreadful from the whole cast, Freddy Himself didn’t even seem to be that scary or creepy at all in this movie
Which bring me to the deaths, there are only two deaths in this movie (which was let down) and both of those deaths were terrible done not gory or nasty
This movie is not the worse of series but I am not saying it’s a good movie but it is a least (Just about) watchable
I give this a movie 4/10

Johnny would be proud.
Hello, I’m Johnny Cash
I’ve seen a lot of singer biopics: all the way from the Buddy Holly Story to Coal Miner’s Daughter. This one can’t quite make it to Coal Miner, but it’s light years ahead of Buddy. I read a review today that said that Joaquin was too short and Reese was too pretty to play Johnny and June. The reviewer was right, but what the hell does that have to do with great acting. They got it right and this old hillbilly cried, that’s right–cried–at every historical landmark they hit. Oscars for Joaquin and Reese–that’s all I want.woody pulpsWalk The Line update 03/19/2006.
A retraction is in order. Not only have I come to realize this movie beats all the singer biopics, in my opinion, it beats all biopics and, indeed, has become my favorite movie…period. Read Jack Shaw’s comment below. It’s worth your time.(I did exactly what you asked and resisted a comment on a comment, but I gave in even though I tried).
Oh, and by the way, if Dan John Miller wasn’t channeling Luther on the guitar, there is no such thing
Great lines from the movie:June Carter…June Carter…when will you be mine? (sing it to the tune of Hey, Porter). June: I surmise you haven’t been to bed. An intoxicated Johnny: surmiiiiiise….Luther Perkins: It’s in A….A (nods ‘yes’ to Marshall Grant).
June: I got tangled!woody pulps
