“Wrestler” Movie Review

“Wrestler” Plot Summary

A faded professional wrestler must retire, but finds his quest for a new life outside the ring a dispiriting struggle.

Amazing

I had no doubt in my mind that this movie was going to be great. I watched it a couple weeks back, and my god..It’s a work of art, I tell you.

I have never really seen many films with Mickey Rourke, that I remember. I had never really paid any attention to him, until now. He is an amazingly gifted actor. I cannot see anyone else being as right for that part, as he was.

I will be watching this movie again and again. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, it doesn’t matter..It’s an amazingly, well done movie.

Go see it! 10/10

“Gone Baby Gone” Movie Review

“Gone Baby Gone” Plot Summary

Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally. Based on the Dennis Lehane novel.

See it before it’s gone, baby, gone!

Ben Affleck’s impressive directorial debut features some remarkably naturalistic performances, a genuine sense of locale, and an atmosphere of despair and hopelessness that becomes a major antagonist. An honestly downbeat film, it portrays a mode of existence where nothing is black or white, and it is that gray area that the film explores so effectively even if I find the story from Dennis Leheane’s novel to be a bit far-fetched and convoluted. More than The Departed, Mystic River, and Peter Yates’ The Friends of Eddie Coyle, Gone, Baby, Gone understands the inter-relationship among cops, criminals, and a neighborhood as they search for a missing child. Though the boyish Casey Affleck is arguably miscast as Patrick, a character who was more mature in the novel, his performance cannot be faulted and by the end he has won us over. The last scene is particularly resonant. Though well-known actors such as Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman are expectedly good, it is the performances of an unknown supporting cast that gives the film a disturbing authenticity. And Amy Ryan as the child’s mother gives a trenchant performance. Director Affleck maintains an admirable tone of objectivity and compassion throughout, and he has made a film that is worthy of your time. Go!Baby!Go!

“The Fountain” Movie Review

“The Fountain” Plot Summary

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.

Exceptional film-making

I was fortunate to see this at the Toronto Film Festival. While I have not seen Requiem for a Dream or Pi, I was fascinated by this film after hearing about the reaction in Venice. This is one of the most thought provoking & evocative movies I have ever seen. I think it is a movie that people will either love or hate, there doesn’t appear to be a middle ground

While introducing the film, in Toronto, Rachel Weisz commented that Aronofsky asks a lot from his actors, this appears to be true and most certainly pays off. Hugh Jackman’s gut-wrenching and emotional performance is phenomenal. This is undoubtedly his best performance and, as far as I’m concerned, you can hand him the Oscar. It is superbly written, acted and directed. Mansel’s score is beautiful. Be open to this movie and receive it. There aren’t enough superlatives to do justice to this film. I can’t wait to see it again. Brilliant!

“Deep Blue Sea” Movie Review

“Deep Blue Sea” Plot Summary

Searching for a cure to Alzheimer’s disease a group of scientists on an isolated research facility become the bait as a trio of intelligent sharks fight back. add synopsis

A survivalist’s dream!

A team of doctors, scientists and other professionals are sent to a remote research facility to study sharks in the hopes of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. But the Bio-engineered sharks soon use their newly acquired intelligence to try and outsmart their human counterparts. One by one the team, a cast that includes Michael Rapaport, LL Cool J, Samuel L Jackson, Saffron Burrows amongst others, begin to be eliminated one by one as a struggle for survival begins when the sharks sabotage the facility by causing it to deliberately flood so that they (the sharks) can escape into the open sea. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and thriller aspects of the film, it wasn’t too gory (compared to some other films) but the script as well as certain situations were very annoying and not to mention predictable.

“Requiem for a Dream” Movie Review

“Requiem for a Dream” Plot Summary

The hopes and dreams of four ambitious people are shattered when their drug addictions begin spiraling out of control.

This movie really blows you away

I am in shock. Shock should be the word to describe this movie. It’s truly a work of art. The colors, the images , all about this movie relates to art. It’s a masterpiece. Darren Aronofsky put’s you’re mind in situations you couldn’t imagine , the characters are extraordinary , the acting outstanding ,the music also is perfect … i don’t know , maybe Requim of a Dream relates somehow to Stanley Kubrick’s ‘ A Clockwork Orange ‘ , it’s that kind of quality that is very rare in the cinema industry that should put this movie in my opinion in a top 10 all time films. Maybe i am being subjective but you will have to sea this movie to understand what i really mean by that.
