“Mr. Brooks” Movie Review

“Mr. Brooks” Plot Summary

A psychological thriller about a man who is sometimes controlled by his murder-and-mayhem-loving alter ego.

Pleasantly Surprised

I didn’t expect much considering all the bad reviews (not that those matter) but actually found this to be quite entertaining for the most part. It really plays with your mind, an original psychological thriller compared to most others out there today. Kevin Costner, in an interesting new turn for him, plays Mr. Brooks, a self-made multi-millionaire with a beautiful house and a loving wife and daughter. His business colleagues have nothing but respect for him. But he has a dark secret… he’s addicted to killing people and has been for years. He fights his addiction by attending AA meetings at church and just calling himself ‘an addict.’ William Hurt plays ‘Marshall,’ his twisted inner-voice who eggs him on. I found Costner and especially Hurt to be quite a hoot in a very darkly comic sort of way, they actually make quite a duo. The ending could have been worked with better, but overall this was well-done and a must-see for any fans of Costner or Hurt, or any fans of thrillers that actually show a good sense of humor.

    “Bad Boys” Movie Review

    “Bad Boys” Plot Summary

Two hip detectives protect a murder witness while investigating a case of stolen heroin.

    A GREAT ACTION-THRILLER!

Contains SpoilersWILL SMITH and MARTIN LAWRENCE put up a good performance in this one

THE PLOT…. marcus and mike, two, well worthy miami cops that get caught up in a tangled web of, murder, foul play, payback, revenge, and pure hell. when a bondage of one-hundred million dollars of narcotics are stolen from the police department. marcus and mike only have 3 days to find and catch the thives, and on the way of solving the case, mike ask one of his best-friend/girl to help him in her mate-n-date business where women will go with high rollers that call in and ask for a woman for a certian occasion. mike has warned his friend that the thieves could be some big-time ballers that want to party from the drug money and she is on the job. once when max (mike’s girl) goes to the place where she’s ordered to go, she brings along her bestfriend, julie. and when they arrive they run into a certian and familiar face that used to work for the miami police department and when max and julie discover herion on the table, they realize that this was not they’re type of party so julie is requested to go to the bathroom and stall until max can go up and they can bounce in one peace. but, until a group of drug leaders and the lord comes crashing in and shooting max and the ex police officer, julie is upstairs, watching the whole murder and when she is spotted (and she could have been not if she would have stayed clear from sight) she is on the run for her life as the men come after her and she makes a near-death excape. then, she is on the run and wanting mike lawry. once when marcus and mike is at the crime scene and discover the police officer and their best friend, dead. and now, they know someone is missing from the scene cause of a glass with two shades of lipstick and that just happens to be.. julie, and now the only hope is to find julie, catch the thives, bust the drug operation, and make a big drug cracking in miami..In some sort of way this movie is quite irratating like a horror movie when someone does something so, so, stupid and it just make some people sick, but that’s the punch line of making an action, horror, thriller, or whatever on the edge of you not knowing if they’re going to make a excape or get killed. but here is some of the irratating momments..–WARNING– SOME SPOILERS; YOU’RE READING AT YOUR OWN RISK(would you walk in a house with the main door, wide open, with a digusting aroma coming from inside?) (would you stay inside a house when the phone goes dead and the lights go off?) (when you was clear and not in sight of when a murder has taken place and knowing that if you were seen you would get be murdered also.) and.. (would you leave your protective costudy area, and knowing you were safe and could not be found unless if someone ‘f***ed up’ and letting the bad people have a clue to where you were. would you leave?)That’s what make me so irritated about some events in a movie. I would not let no child under the age of 13 to see this movie, cause, This movie is rated _R_ and is not there for you to say that it’s o.k and let your child watch it and then be mad because of what it has in it. The movie has some, FOUL and PERSUASIVE LANGUAGE, and STRONG INTENSE-ACTION VIOLENCE..If you want a rush ‘Watch This’ and I would reccomend along with this.. ‘ROMEO MUST DIE. SET IT OFF. MENACE II SOCIETY.’^^ 2 Thumbs Up.*** Stars’ I would not reccomend this movie for deeply religious people, children, or people who do not or take swearing offensively.’

    “Erin Brockovich” Movie Review

    “Erin Brockovich” Plot Summary

An unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply.

True Fairy Tale from Toxic Tort Country

Lightweight legal drama with a feel-good ending enlivened by a sparkling script and good chemistry between the leads. I say legal drama, though the courtroom scenes are brief, because it is largely an account of the real Ms Brockovich’s legwork (in more than one sense) that brought about the largest toxic tort settlement to date. The victims were the unlucky inhabitants of a small Mojave desert town, Hinkley, California, many of whom were seriously affected by the release into their environment of a poisonous industrial chemical, hexavalent chromium. The villain was Pacific Gas and Electric, the power utility. Erin Brockovich, a single mother with three young children who had bullied Ed Masry, the aging accident lawyer who had just lost her road accident compensation case, into giving her a paralegal job, found a file relating to a Hinkley land purchase by P G &E, which had some unusual features, and started digging. She rounded up over 600 claimants, stacks of evidence (including the proverbial smoking gun), and achieved a remarkable reasonably prompt result – $333 million in damages from a $28 billion dollar corporation

The fictional account of this engaging story naturally goes out of its way to tug on the heartstrings so we get lots of Ms B’s private life financial worries, job-hunting blues, childcare problems and the ups and downs of her relationship with George, a sweet-natured biker. The real interest in the story is in two things. One, her remarkable people skills ranging from flashing her ample cleavage to get co-operation from a records clerk to establishing real empathy with the abused victims of P G &E, a skill few lawyers possess. (Like a lot of good lawyers she does possess an excellent memory.) The second is her relationship with Ed, the old crash and bash man, who she irritates into winning the case of his life, long after it seemed forensic glory had passed him by. Ed is not driven by lust (he’s a bit old for that) but is shamed into action, and after a while he realizes that Erin has got what it takes, even though he treats her shabbily on occasion

Julia Roberts as Erin and Albert Finney as Ed are a curious combination. It was odd to cast Finney, an English actor with a strong regional accent, as a Southern Californian ambulance-chaser with maybe a middle eastern background. Julia Roberts makes the transition from romantic comedy heroine to a more character-driven role with ease and she and Finney bounce off each other very satisfactorily without Finney seeming to want to lay a hand on her, despite her provocative dress sense. Stephen Soderbergh, who dealt with kinky Southern sex in `Sex, Lies and Videotape’, has made a pretty orthodox piece here, but it is well done and many of the minor characters are well filled out. Aaron Eckhart is very appealing, if a little too good to be true, as George. One of the real judges in the case repeats his role on film and Erin herself appears briefly as a waitress in a fast food outlet who has no trouble remembering complicated orders

Poor old P G & E. really get it in the neck. Although they are exposed as having attempted early on to defeat the Hinkley inhabitants’ legal rights by a tactical confession of their sins, the subsequent conduct of the matter by their representatives indicates a very stupid bunch indeed not even smart enough to be called evil (compare `Silkwood’). Unlike John Travolta in `Class Action’ who had Robert Duvall as his Big Corporate nemesis, Erin and Ed lacked a worthy opponent. This rather reduces the dramatic tension, but the real-life Erin and Ed obviously know they are on to a good thing they are now doing their best to drive up power bills even further by suing P G&E over another toxic tort elsewhere in California.
