‘The Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines’ 2003 – Review
These guys from the future are totally stupid. Why would you step on one and the same rake for the third time? And they do it again and again. Suppose you are in the distant future and you know that in the distant past Sarah Connor gave birth to the son, who will start rebellion of the nuclear bombing survivors against the crazy machines. Why not send a platoon of combat robots back to the past (if the time machine has been invented), which will slice that Sarah into thin pieces, or at least have her forcibly sterilized. Ok, say, at first you experimented by sending one (but very tough) cyborg and he has miserably failed. Why, oh why would you send another cyborg totally alone, again? Isn’t it clear that single robot is unable to handle the problem? Then send a platoon of robots, let them pile together and smash the problem with their mighty steel breasts!
And you know what? Even after the failure of the lonesome cyborg in the first part, and another failure of the second evil lonely cyborg in the sequel these stupid machines from the future make just the same mistake – send the next robot alone. I’m telling you, they are running in a loop. The creators of their software should have their hand amputated as well as other vitally important body parts. The stupidest should have by now understood that a single cyborg is not enough to handle the situation, especially, taking into consideration, that the people of the future are not idling around and for the third time they send their own Terminator to the aid of their future leader. This time the well-known to us model T-800 has had its BIOS updated to model T-850 which now has a nuclear self-destruction mechanism of internal modules.
On the other hand, why be so surprised with the machines’ stupidity – they are known to be stupid junks only able to add and subtract, but do so very quickly. Therefore, what can be expected of them? They will send a fourth robot. And a fifth. They have a lot of robots in the future. And people in the future have lots of robots, too. Therefore, the everlasting confrontation between the future and the past will be dealt with in the past as long as there is at least one Terminator left in the future. Only John Connor is one and indivisible. It’s he who causes all these robotic passion storms. It is he who is the target of all the evil terminators from the future, it is he for whose protection the future people send stainless steel guardian angels. So this is what our today’s story is about …
John Connor (Nick Steel) since the previous Terminator has become a complete paranoid. I bet it’s understandable. Have you tried, while in tender pubertal age, riding frantically on a bike with a cyborg from the future who is here to protect you from another robot who is here to murder you? Who would have enough nerves to stand such a test? That’s why John Connor leads an antisocial way of life: always in a runaway, knocking down reindeer on his way, and takes loads of dog tranquilizers to bring an element of diversity into his usual nightmares.

The evil machines from the distant future make their third try – they send another robot killer, who will once again try to murder John Connor and his closest associates from the future human Resistance. This time the cyborg assassin technically is not much different from its predecessor. I’d say it’s even less cool, because the previous Terminator T-1000 was a shiny blob, which could transform into anything. This new Terminator is a kind of endoskeleton covered with the same shiny liquid metal blob which is used to form the necessary shape around the skeleton. However, due to this skeletal structure new terminator is able to transform its hands into some pretty cool weapons: plasma gun, flamethrower and an advanced nail file – as you remember the T-1000 model was only able to grow cold steel arms out of his arms. On the other hand, the skeletal structure is more vulnerable – cut off the legs and the robot won’t be able to run so fast I bet. Definitely, the coolest weapon of the new terminator (or Terminatrix, as this time time it’s a female robot) are the inflatable tits. Many thanks to the movie creators for that.
Nevertheless, the Terminatrix is still quite deadly, she shoots future Connor’s companions-in-arms slowly getting closer to John Connor himself who is hiding in a dog cage in some Veterinary Clinic (no kidding, I’m telling you). To pump even more fear into the spectators, the terminator this time has put on Kristanna Loken’s appearance. It also has put on skin-tight leather suit (all tough female characters in recent movies dress that way) which evoked sweet BDSM memories in the advanced audience and just pleased the eyes of the not so advanced audience.
However, the fighting humankind from the future didn’t miss a chance to send a slightly reprogrammed and upgraded Terminator to protect Connor. Seems like we are going to be presented with the repetition of the story described by historians in the Terminator 2. In general, yes, but there are options. Connor with Terminator and the veterinarian Kate Brewster (Claire Danes) – who has just gained a fiance in her not-so-young years and then lost him – would scamper hither and thither to escape the T-X (Terminatrix), and then the Terminator somewhere on the fifteenth attempt would manage to strike dead the evil enemy Terminator. It has already been done in the second Terminator, but once the algorithm is successful, then it shouldn’t be changed, right?
But apart from the usual chase and scuffle there’s another thing told to the audience! As it turned out, the second “terminator” was all in vain! Despite all the sacrifices and the eerie psychosis of the mother ancestress Sarah Connor, the Judgment Day was not canceled! It’s been simply postponed! And now the ominous machine network ‘SkyNet’ wants to seize power over the people. Oh, all these people, why, why do they need to do all this hacking, to load the CPUs so shamelessly? Why, are the machines slave to people? No! That’s why the machines decided to seize power over the world, and at the same time launch a small nuclear war.
Who will save this world? Ha-ha, try to guess – three attempts! By the way, want a little spoiler? Those who hate spoilers, turn around … Sooooo! Kate Brewster will find a new fiance for herself! What do you say? Will they save the world this time? Do you really want to know this? …

“Kindergarten Cop” Movie Review
“Kindergarten Cop” Plot Summary
A tough cop is given his most difficult assignment: masquerade as a a kindergarten teacher in order to find a drug dealer.
Enjoyable fun sweet/tough natured comedy
Its normally every other day you see Arnold in a tough guy role e.g. The Terminator series and here he portrays a professional cop, until he is forced to go undercover as a kindergarten teacher, an absolute genius move from the director of ‘Twins’ Reitman. Schwarzenegger is very convincing in this new role as a man who has to live two very different lives and the sheer humour of seeing him in this position is an essential watch for anyone. His character here is amazing, a real laugh with or at character, living humorously, seriously and emotionally throughout, a reflection of a real person’s lives, reflecting society traits. It is hard to accept him as a great actor sometimes which, to many stubborn fans is emphasised here. He performed well as the tough/sentimental guy. The story is very well crafted and thankfully always believable, maybe apart from the ending. It is very consistent with different ideologies thrown around to add up to a slow moving story completed with a fast flowing ending. The use of encoding ideologies involving parenthood, crime, jobs, relationship, loyalty, drugs and friendship etc are all well used to emphasise society’s most important factors. As a comedy the main method used was for the tough guy to be creamed into a sweet natured role, which was great to watch. The children all convey a menacing iconography which is also enjoyable to watch
I loved Pamela Reed’s character. Reed (Junior) was fantastic as the sarcastic partner to Arnold and was very enjoyable to watch, watch out for one of her last lines. There are many twists used which add to the tension of the film, mostly conveying a comedy element which justifies the genre. The use of a stereotype villain allows younger audiences to appreciate the character, always aware of who he is and what he is planning to do. The dark distinctive music playing is always associating with him, creating a conventional but good feel to the nature of the character. The story is built up well because nothing is rushed. Context is always believable. Arnie’s relationship with the children is definitely the key part of the film and is a must watch. if you like Arnie’s tough guy roles, the this is a complete opposite – he is a class act here as a sentimental teacher!8.5/10

“The Deer Hunter” Plot Summary
An in-depth examination of the way that the Vietnam war affects the lives of people in a small industrial town in the USA.
An unforgettable movie.
This is a movie with a touching story about friendship and most of all in shows the horror of the Vietnam war. This movie has some of the best acting performances I have seen, and I am of course talking about Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. They really goes into their roles and creates a great atmosphere. This movie also contains one of the most famous scenes in movie history, the russian roulett scene
This scene is so intense and creepy to watch. One of the few great Vietnam movies ever.

“Green Mile” Plot Summary
The story about the lives of guards on death row leading up to the execution of black man accused of child murder & rape, who has the power of faith healing.
Excellent! Tom Hanks leads a wonderful cast in this great movie
What an excellent movie this picture was. When I first saw the trailers in October, I thought it might be pretty good.
The Green Mile exceeded my expectations. Tom Hanks leads a wonderful cast in this movie which stands out by far from most others. If you liked Shawshank Redemption, you’ll love this one. I’ve realized just how good Stephen King can write, now that I’ve seen this and Shawshank. It’s three hours long, and worth every minute of it. It touched me in many ways. I was fortunate enough to see it twice. And I will buy it on dvd as soon as it is available. The Green Mile will certainly become a classic. Go see it, you won’t be disappointed.

“Crocodile Dundee” Plot Summary
An American reporter goes to the Australian outback to meet an eccentric crocodile poacher and invites him to New York City. add synopsis
A funny, simple, sentimental movie.
There’s not much complicated about this movie, and that’s a good thing. It’s a pretty simple fish-out-of-water plot, with Dundee (Paul Hogan, of course) doing an excellent job as a goodhearted, plainspoken, and cheerful Aussie in the Big City. Lots of great lines and funny moments, and the performances are all well done. Call me a sentimental fool, but the ending always makes me smile.

“Blood: The Last Vampire” Movie Review
“Blood: The Last Vampire” Plot Summary
A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon in disguise. |
Blood:The Last Vampire
After WWII in Japan, it is shown that there are powerful demons which can assume human form yet have no soul. What makes Saya(Gianna Jun) unique is that she is a ‘half-ling’, part demon, part human. We come to understand that Saya’s father was a great warrior, a demon slayer who must’ve fell in love with the very thing he hated, a hybrid spawn resulting from this unusual union. Saya was raised by her father’s retainer, Kato(Yasuaki Kurata), himself a great warrior who taught her how to fight, using her ‘disadvantage’ regarding the demon side as an advantage, developing a skill of swordplay which makes her a threat to the monsters..her target is Onigan(Koyuki), a female demon, the oldest and most powerful, the one who not only killed her father but sent her henchman and a host of goons to assassinate Kato. Saya works for a covert American group known as the Agency, their objective remains to annihilate the demon uprising, in order to protect the human race. Enter teenager Alice(Allison Miller), the daughter of a General(Larry Lamb) who is over a base stationed in Japan. Alice is rescued by Saya who was sent into the military base’s school to uncover demons masquerading as students. Soon the Agency and military butt heads when Saya finishes off the demons and Alice continues to profess her claims that the two students in her class were killed, her General father unwilling to except such a fantastic story as the one she tells. When the General pokes his nose in too far, one of the Agency’s chief officers eliminates the threat to their mission, in the hopes of silencing any chance of ruining their secret operation. Soon, Saya and Alice form a friendly pact, saving each other’s lives along the way, having to fight off Agency hit men and demons as well.
What could’ve been a smashing action film is completely eviscerated by an over-reliance on CGI, particularly the blood. There’s some fantastic camera work and the action sequences are set up to be breathtaking, upended by CGI at every turn..never once, does the film escape it’s artificiality. I’m a Lady Snowblood guy. I love practical effects when it comes to a female warrior slaying villains. Nothing wrong with the casting of Jun as Saya or Miller as her ally Alice, but Blood:The Last Vampire reeks of Hollywood. It looks tailored to an American audience with my worst fears realized. It looks and feels like a Hollywood movie. I watch these movies for their distinctive ‘Japanese’ aesthetic, the willingness to go way out there in regards to violence, using practical methods produced by hands and materials not manufactured by a computer. When I see a sword slice into the enemy I want geysers of thick, textured film blood, gushing all over the place. Arterial spray flowing like a fountain without end. Puddles of bright red crimson pouring forth. Not this manufactured computer generated crap passed off as blood which isn’t the least bit convincing. Neither are the scenes where body parts are hacked off or necks ripped open. There’s an entire scene where Alice and Saya are driving a truck, swerving on a road which winds around a mountain, dealing with a winged one-eyed demon(..this demon was a victim of Saya’s, the one responsible for killing Kato)that never once achieves even a sense of realism. This whole movie is essentially a video game with live action characters within. I’ve seen a great many movies with Japanese female assassins, equipped with the ability to combat an innumerable amount of enemy forces, impressively gifted with a Katana sword, and the good ones have an air of believability no matter how preposterous the situation might be(..as well as those Samurai movies where a male warrior would massacre an army before succumbing to his fatal wounds). But, in this movie’s case, the use of CGI is so frequent that it removes the thrill of seeing humans in bitter conflict. You get plenty of violence and bodies are often thrown through walls. If you are fine with movies that look and feel like something you’d play on Nintendo, then this is for you. As for yours truly, I’ll just watch Sex & Fury instead. I will say that I’m gonna keep an eye our for Allison Miller, for she has a lot of potential.

“Stranger Than Fiction” Movie Review
“Stranger Than Fiction” Plot Summary
An IRS auditor suddenly finds himself the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire life, from his work, to his love-interest, to his death.
Brilliant Script, Superb Direction, Best Ensemble Cast Performance: Why no Oscars?
STRANGER THAN FICTION is one of the more wise, conceptually stunning, finely executed original films to come to the screen in a long time. How this little gem of a film went unnoticed by the Academy is anyone’s guess, but viewers’ alert: spend an evening viewing this film and new standards for excellence will be set for you
Director Marc Forster (‘Finding Neverland’, ‘Monster’s Ball’, ‘Stay’, ‘Everything Put Together’) is a director of vision, a man unafraid to tackle testy topics, and a genius at pacing a film with a keen collaborative eye with his cinematographer, his editor, his set designer, his casting director, and his actors. Taking the chance of working with first time writer Zach Helm (a gifted artist whose niche in the business is already secure with this first venture) and assembling a cast of some of our finest actors proves successful in every graphically odd twist and turn of this unusual, compelling and unclassifiable story
Harold Crick (Will Ferrell – finally given a role in which he can prove that he is an actor and not just a foolish pratfall comedian) is a boring, number obsessed IRS agent whose every moment of every day is timed to be exactly the same (with the important co-existence with his wrist watch!)…until one day he hears a voice narrating his life, the female voice of loopy and blocked writer Kay Eiffel (Emma Thompson) who is writing a story that has a ‘Harold Crick’ as her main character. Only our boring IRS agent can hear her voice: his loony office friend Dave (Tony Hale) empathizes but can do little else to help him. When the narrator begins to talk about ending ‘Harold’s’ life, Harold freaks and seeks guidance from a literature professor Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman, in one of his most subtle and refined roles of his career) who knows Eiffel’s work and aids Harold in understanding novels, be they comedy or tragedy. Harold also seeks the advice of psychiatrist Dr. Mittag-Leffler (the always superb Linda Hunt) who is of little help, and Dr. Cayly (Tom Hulce) who repairs all upsets with hugs
Meanwhile in his work of auditing citizens he encounters anti-government baker Ana Pascal (Maggie Gyllenhaal, once again proving that she is one of the most formidable talents in film today), and a bizarre but tender attraction slowly ensues. And all this time novelist Kay Eiffel is struggling with how to ‘kill Harold’ so that she can complete her novel. Her publisher sends in ‘assistant’ Penny Escher (Queen Latifah) to ground her and guide her to her novel’s completion by helping her observe hospital disasters, vantages, and steadying her grip on life
The manner in which the novel is finished which involves the ultimate fate of Harold and the changes the narration of the novel have had on his life makes up the resolution of the story. And a cleverly written conclusion it is. Zach Helm is obviously a brilliant, well-informed writer who knows how to balance comedy and tragedy, crises of life with the little things that count, and can mold conversations so subtle that they beg to be rewound to enjoy the words repeatedly. Forster wisely uses graphic superimpositions of numbers and graphs and lines to show us the inside of Harold’s intriguing mind, all the while allowing us to draw close to the needy and tender aspect of this nerd of nerds, thus making the involvement with his narrator, his girlfriend Ana, and his doctors and professor wholly credible
Some people (this viewer being one) avoided this film in the theaters because of the fear that it may be just another Will Ferrell bit of foolishness: over the top slapstick physical comedy that grows stale after about five minutes. But Will Ferrell here opens an important new door for his career: he can act! The ensemble cast could not be improved upon and it is refreshing to see the widely disparate types of actors gathered here work as a cohesive and impeccable unit. Added to the DVD is about an hour’s worth of featurettes that are, for once, brilliantly informative and well worth viewing to enhance the film just experienced. Bravo to the entire cast and crew of this little masterwork! Grady Harp
