“Kate & Leopold” Movie Review

“Kate and Leopold” Plot Summary

Kate and her actor brother live in N.Y. in the 21st Century. Her ex-boy friend, Stuart, lives above…

Typical Romantic Comedy With A Twist Of Time Travelling

‘Kate and Leopald’ is a typical romantic comedy, only this time one of the protagonists travels from the 30s (?) to modern day New York. It’s clear that one shouldn’t expect anything more than laughter and a few mushy moments of love from this film and that is the case. If one watches it with lower expectations, it can be quite enjoyable. I liked the Hugh Jackman – Meg Ryan pairing. They both share the required chemistry and provide some of the nicer moments. Ryan plays her usual romcom city lass persona (and I haven’t tired myself from seeing her in such roles…yet but I now prefer to see her in different genres ). Hugh Jackman has a knack for comedy and he should do more such films if given a more intelligent script. Breckin Meyer and Liev Schreiber are great. To further prevent yourself from getting irritated, quit analyzing the film as there are several plot holes and some situations seem chopped. You can ask lots of question like how Leopold adapts to modern New York so quickly or how would an ultra-modern Kate (who’s never travelled) make it in 30’s (?) England (?) So one could enjoy it a little if they suspend their beliefs. even so, the ending seems a little too abrupt (predictable as it is). In spite of the flaws, there are the few nice moments and the few funny moments that don’t make it all that bad.

    “Scream 2″ Movie Review

    “Scream 2″ Plot Summary

It has been two years since the tragic events at Woodsboro. Sidney Prescott and Randy Meeks are trying to get on with their lives… add synopsis

My favorite of the three films.

Two years has passed… the infamous murders at Woodsboro has turned into a movie. Since the novel is written by reporter Gale Wheaters (Courtney Cox). Two college students (Jada Pinkett Smith and Omar Epps) were killed in a sneak peak of a horror movie called ‘Stab’, which is based on Wheaters’ book. Now Sidney (Neve Campbell), Randy (Jamie Kennedy), Dewey (David Arquette), Gale and Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) find themselves in danger. This killer certainly wants something from Sidney, so she’s also putting her boyfriend (Jerry O’Connell) and her two friends (Timothy Olyphant & Elise Neal) in deep trouble as well

Directed by Wes Craven (The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, Shocker) made an truly enjoyable sequel to ‘Scream’ that is even more entertaining and funnier than the original. The script by Kevin Williamson (Cursed, Teaching Miss Tingle) certainly made some truly fun writing about the rules of a sequel. This was just as a blockbusters as the original was. Some film critics (For example the late Gene Siskel) felt the sequel was much better. There’s an amusing film within the film, which those scenes are directed (uncredited) by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids Trilogy, Grindhouse, The Faculty).

The Original DVD has an sharp non-anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and an strong Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD includes Cast & Crew information and the original theatrical trailer. The only flaw in the sequel is the conclusion, which is a bit too much. ‘Scream 2′ has many funny moments as well for suspenseful moments. A good cast certainly helps. Heather Graham, Joshua Jackson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tori Spelling, Luke Wilson and others appears in bit parts. ‘Scream 2′ is certainly one of the better sequels has to offer these days and don’t miss it. Also available in a collector’e edition DVD with anamorphic widescreen, commentary by the filmmakers and more. Panavision. (****/*****).

    “Ransom” Plot Summary

When a rich man’s son is kidnapped, he cooperates with the police at first but then tries a unique tactic against the criminals.

    What a great film!

I loved this movie. Mel Gibson is just totally great in this film, like most others. But really, the fact that he didn’t get Best Actor for this was a shame!Warning Possible Spoilers. This is my first review so I’m not quite sure how much I should say

So anyways, I’ll assume you’ve already seen this but if you haven’t, well would you be surprised to know that this is about a kidnapping! As an airline exec. Mel has made some enemies’ and one day his son is taken by Gary Sinise & Co. Well, at first Mel cooperates but he soon thinks that he’ll never see his son again, alive anyways, if he pays. What follows is a spectacular scene in which Mel dedicates his life to finding and terribly murdering those responsible. Thing is Gary is a cop and is that a great cover or what!Even if you don’t like Mel still rent this one. You’ll love it!

    “Sphere” Plot Summary

A spaceship is discovered under three hundred years’ worth of coral growth at the bottom of the ocean. add synopsis

    I actually quite enjoyed it.

I had heard all kinds of terrible things about this movie. I had bought the DVD beforehand, though, based on the movie genre (which I like a lot) and the strength of its stars. I then didn’t watch it for a long time because I had heard it was bad and I saved it for an evening where I wouldn’t care

Well, not expecting much, I really enjoyed it. I found the acting very good (good stars, so it’s expected) and the story was original enough that I was very entertained. The ending wasn’t the greatest, but it surely didn’t ruin the movie for me. So, if you’re into this genre, and you want to be entertained rather than play movie critic, I would recommend it.

“The Sum of All Fears” Movie Review

“The Sum of All Fears” Plot Summary

CIA analyst Jack Ryan must thwart the plans of a terrorist faction that threatens to induce a catastrophic conflict between the United States and Russia’s newly elected president by detonating a nuclear weapon at a football game in Baltimore. add synopsis

    Well Made Thriller

Sum of All Fears is an enjoyable thriller and the type of movie the Hollywood studios have always been good at making. It’s slick, expensive-looking, well-acted and two hours of far-fetched fun. Ben Affleck plays CIA Agent and superman Jack Ryan PhD. Ryan is a former marine, linguist, all-round polymath who usually saves the world from impending disaster. Affleck is youthful and convincing as Ryan and makes him seem fallible and likable. Ryan becomes a confidant of the wise and sensible CIA Director Bill Cabot (Morgan Freeman) and acquires a beautiful and successful girlfriend (Bridget Moynahan) who believes he’s a historian. The plot is complicated and involves a new Russian leader (Ciaran Hands) who spouts anti-U.S. rhetoric. A Russian chemical attack on Chechnya increases the tension between the two countries. An Israeli atomic bomb is found in the Egyption desert,a relic of the 1973 Arab-Israeli conflict. Neo-Nazi terrorists (led by Alan Bates) want to provoke a nuclear conflict between America and Russia. They acquire the bomb from a South African arms dealer and explode it in Baltimore. The U.S. blames the Russians and the two countries are about to commence all-out nuclear war until Ryan works out what is happening and all ends happily. The message is that the new Russian leaders are reasonable men signifying that the world has moved on from the Commie bashing flicks of the 1980s

The idea of a terrorist nuclear attack is topical, but unfortunately the Neo-Nazi villains seem very 1970s. The film has good character actors in supporting roles (e.g., Liev Schrieber, James Cromwell). I much prefer Afflek’s Ryan to that of the 52 year-old Harrison Ford who by 1994’s Clear and Present Danger seemed too old and surly to play the role.

    “Scream” Movie Review

    “Scream” Plot Summary

A psychopathic serial killer is stalking a group of teens just like in the movies!

A fun movie that effectively parodied the slasher genre

Following the big flop ‘New Nightmare’, which was not actually a bad film, Wes Craven came out all guns blazing, armed with a nice script from Kevin Williamson, and made the single biggest movie of his career

The script is a lot of fun with various in jokes, and it doesn’t take long for them to start coming. ‘The first nightmare on Elm Street was good, the rest sucked,’ was an obvious reference to Wes Craven directing the original and not the later ones, Craven later makes a cameo appearance as a janitor named ‘Fred’ wearing a green and red jumper. Several other classic horror films are also referenced including the Exorcist, Friday the 13th, Halloween 1 and 2, Hellraiser, Prom Night, The Howling and Rosemary’s Baby

The plot revolves around Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), a young high Schooler who’s mother was viciously murdered a year or so earlier. Sidney was convinced her mother’s murderer was Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) who was convicted of the crime and is in now in jail. Tabloid news reporter Gail Weathers however, has her doubts and has printed a series of articles and a tell all novel pleading Weary’s innocence. Her theory is given credence as a series of copycat killings, modeled after 80s horror movies, occur. Sidney soon finds herself living in a real life scary movie with no allies and everyone’s a suspect

I find it a bit hard to rate Scream as a slasher film, as I don’t see it as one. I see it as more of comedy thriller, which was successfully marketed as a horror film. Not that it was hard given the many litres of fake blood used in the story or the rather grisly subject matter

On the acting side, Skeet Ulrich easily steals the movie from under the rest of the cast, while Matthew Lillard and Jamie Keneedy are both delights. David Arquette is equal parts annoying and endearing, and Courtney Cox is convincing as a bitch, but not so much as a reporter. Neve Campbell puts in a strong performance as Sidney, while Rose McGowan is under used, and unlikeable in her few scenes. Drew Barrymore’s cameo in the opening ten or so minutes has become an iconic scene in 90s film making, and is some of the best work she has ever done

Craven’s affection for the horror genre has been evident in many of his movies and he does a fine job here of both sending up the genre he helped create, and also redefining it for a modern audience. Well done to Craven and his script writer Kevin Williamson for breathing life back into the slasher genre.

    “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” Movie Review

    “Wolverine” Plot Summary

After seeking to live a normal life, Logan sets out to avenge the death of his girlfriend by undergoing the mutant Weapon X program and becoming Wolverine. |

    Best of the X

‘I’m the best at what I do and what I do ain’t pretty’ This film surprisingly stays fairly true to what we know about Wolverine and the ‘Weapon X’ program through the comic books. The film is largely based in Barry Windsor-Smythe’s ‘weAponX’ which was run as a serial in the ‘Marvel Comics Presents’ comic book line and later released in Trade Paperback form.

There is a lot here for fans of Wolverine, certain aspects of this story were taken right from the Wolverine series of 1988 – Wolverine’s relationship with ‘Silver Fox’ uses a lot of elements straight from the books and that ‘chapter’ of the wolverine story is actually fairly close to the source material. The only dramatic license I did not like was that Sabretooth and Wolverine are shown as brothers.

Since the weAponX story by BWS was drawn in a cinematic style, a lot of the imagery from that book survives translation to Film format just as well as any Frank Miller book.

While a lot of creative license was taken with some characters and some of the events that occur, much of the dialogue is taken straight from the books and the overall concept is maintained.

Regarding the look of the film, I can use one example, when ‘Gambit’ reveals his powers, the image we are given matches the iconic profile of Gambit- From the comic books and the 1992-96 Cartoon.

Since ‘Victor Creed/Sabretooth’ was a major part of this film, I was semi-disappointed that they did not get Tyler Mane to reprise his earlier 2000 role (Or, pre-prise, whatever the word would be) – The original X-Men film had perfectly cast Sabretooth. I wish they had cast Liev Schreiber for that original film, as he gives more to the character than occasional grunts and snarls that Tyler Mane used for language. Schreiber actually gives the character valid depth and darkness and is less of a cardboard cutout. My only real gripe about using a new actor for this role is that they did not try to match the image from the books, as the 2000 film did perfectly. And so the popular image of Wolverine engaged in mortal combat with Sabretooth- As painted by former Wolverine artist Mark Texiera and reproduced as a huge poster – That image was damaged and I do not know if other Wolverine fans are a forgiving as I am.

Regardless of if the reason ‘James Logan’ becomes part of the Weapon X program is the same reason as the comic books (In The comic books Logan is abducted) – The Process of Wolverine accepting the ‘Adamantium’ metal to his bones is the centerpiece of this film, it is the most important part of the film, and as far as I am concerned you can toss the whole film and leave the process.

The filmmaker needed to take the threads that had been woven in the first 3 X-Men films and give us a start point… Where did the Adamantium metal come from, what Stryker wanted to do with it, and why, all of these questions are explored in this film and as a fan of the comic book series, and also a fan of films in general, I accept the questions, answers and the way it was filmed unequivocally.

I know I enjoyed this film highly, and so did the large amount of people I saw this with, this film got a lot of crown response.

And so, I say the critics and paid shills that are panning this film can go to blazes and I hope that someone does to them what Wolverine does to ‘Deadpool/Wade Wilson’ at the end of the film – And you’ll have to go see it to find out what he does. Oh, look the shills popped up and marked my post as ‘not helpful’ – Which means nothing except that someone is using a bunch of fake IDs
