    “Stargate” Movie Review

    “Stargate” Plot Summary

An interstellar teleportation device, found in Egypt, leads to a planet with humans resembling ancient Egyptians who worship the god Ra. add synopsis

    Greatly made movie!

This is the sort of movie that shouldn’t had really worked out but yet it did. Everything about this movie screams B-movie. Just look at the title, read the script, see the characters, the cast, etcetera. Yet ‘Stargate’ works out tremendously fine as great and above all fine entertainment. It’s for most part due to the fine directing skills of Roland Emmerich, show really knows to uplifts this movie and its story. This movie also really marked the big breakthrough for Roland Emmerich. Yes, it’s true that his real breakthrough movie was ‘Moon 44′ and even though that movie was by no means a great one, it still showed that the director had lots of potential and took the maximum out of the movie. So, ‘Moon 44′ got him Hollywood’s attention but with ‘Stargate’ he for the first time really proofs that he can handle a multi-million dollar production as well and successfully, since ‘Universal Soldier’ was only a successful movie in certain circles. If it weren’t for ‘Stargate’, then now way we would had had movies such as ‘Independence Day’, ‘The Patriot’ and ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. Some people wouldn’t had minded that by the way

Even though the story itself is not that much special, it still has a great and original as well as an intriguing concept, that somehow knows to connect an alien world to ancient Egypt and their Gods. It’s a great science-fiction story without ever really getting too ’science-fiction’ like. It’s uses lots of great and imaginative elements

Once you start really thinking about it, there isn’t an awful lot happening in this movie, mostly action wise. Yet it’s a very entertaining movie to watch, which is due to the fact that it’s made with lots of pace and because of it’s greatly and perfectly adventurous concept of traveling to a far off planet. It’s a movie that never bores and is a perfectly fun one to watch actually. The movie gets also really uplifted by its David Arnold musical score

The movie is fair enough looking. For 1994 standards the special effects are good, especially for the masks worn by the ‘Gods’. But because the movie is for most part set in a dessert like environment it’s not really one that jumps out in its looks and actually also really doesn’t looks and feels like a multi-million dollar production, even though it is. The movie actually looks and feels more cheap, which is also one of the reasons why this movie has already become a sort of a cult-classic

The movie is greatly cast with James Spader and Kurt Russell in the lead roles. But man, did James Spader look still so much different and younger back then. He’s just not the kind of person that aged well. He went from a boyish look in 1994 to an old dirty wrinkly man look now days, even though he’ll turn only just 48 next month. Also greatly cast was Jaye Davidson as Ra. He’s a true memorable villain and it makes you realize what a great shame it is that Jaye Davidson has never acted in many movies, simply just because he never really enjoyed acting much, despite having also received an Oscar nomination for his debut role in ‘The Crying Game’.Truly a recommendable science-fiction classic from the ’90’s.8/10

“3000 Miles to Graceland” Movie Review

“3000 Miles to Graceland” Plot Summary

A gang of ex-cons rob a casino during Elvis convention week. add synopsis

one of the BEST action movies ever

After watching the trailer, I thought it would be a funny movie, a bit stupid but funny (Costner and Russell as Elvis impersonators are hilarious). What a surprise! What I finally saw is one of the best action movies I’ve seen in a long time. It even has a plot you can follow, doesn’t need bloody guts and severed body parts to be shown in close-up. It is ‘just’ a film about bank robbers, that decided to rob a casino, ‘because everybody else robs banks’. There is a huge shootout and security guards and innocent bystanders drop dead by the dozen. The rivalry between the robbers evolves and finally leads (through some twists)to the showdown between Costner / Russell / dozens of law enforcers. The way Costner portraits the lunatic (actually believing himself to be one of Elvis’ illegitimate children)is just fantastic and worth watching the movie. Russell is also wonderful to watch, as the ex-con who just wants to get enough money to settle down on his boat (nice twist there)and who doesn’t share the enthusiasm of the others for killing. Even Cox as the ‘woman in the middle’ shows a surprisingly good performance. Admittedly, you don’t have to switch on your brain to understand it, but it is really cool to watch, funny and entertaining. If you don’t want to spend any money on a theater ticket, get it on DVD – it’s worth it.

    “Grindhouse: Death Proof” Plot Summary

Two separate sets of voluptuous women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman who uses his “death proof” cars to execute his murderous plans.

    Excellent!!!

I haven’t the slightest idea why all of these guys are on here hating on this movie? Could it be that they are the type of guys who don’t care to hear women talk (at all)? I know were just supposed to look sexy and be completely helpless victims in horror flicks. Kicking ass is never supposed to be a woman’s job in a horror flick. You’ll definitely hear some girl talk in this flick. There will be some banter, bickering, laughing, loving, intellectual conversations and downright irrational conversations. You know ‘every day’ girl talk. Add this to some serious bone chilling/thrilling action and you’re all set to go. This is a completely brilliant film that will have you holding on to the edge of your seat. The soundtrack and the non CGI special effects are a special treat. Death Proof is one of my all time favorites.

    “Tombstone” Movie Review

    “Tombstone” Plot Summary

A successful lawman’s plans to retire anonymously in Tombstone, Arizona, are disrupted by the kind of outlaws he was famous for eliminating.

Easily the best film I’ve seen in a month

A public service announcement to anyone that hasn’t seen this movie: Watch it now! I just saw it for the first time, and it’s easily the best movie I’ve seen in months

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but, in my opinion, characters are likely the most important aspect of a film. That said, the characters here couldn’t be better, each one has their own distinct personality, they all have moments to shine and, most importantly, they are all superbly acted. Top honours in that category go, of course, to Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. Simply one of the best characters ever to grace the screen, no more needs to be said. Kurt Russell also did a very good job as celebrated lawman Wyatt Earp. The supporting cast are great as well, but these two certainly stand out…especially Kilmer

I wont get in to how great the plot is so that I don’t spoil it. I’ll just leave it at this: it’s an enthralling story that will keep you glued from beginning to end, surprise you at times, and even saves time to make you laugh. Very well written, very well played out. Even the music is great, which is something that I often overlook

In conclusion, I’m a huge western fan. In fact, next to horror, I’d have to say they are my favourite genre of film. Despite being fairly recent, this film ranks among the best and has certainly earned it’s spot as one of my favourite films.9/10

    “Backdraft” Plot Summary

Two Chicago firefighter brothers who don’t get along have to work together while a dangerous arsonist is on the loose. add synopsis

    Good firefighter movie

Backdraft was actually not a bad movie. The plot wasn’t amazing mainly because it never really gets suspenseful and it just seems kind of stupid how trained firemen keep getting killed by the same type of fire. But I don’t think the plot is what made the movie interesting. The relationship between the two brothers (Baldwin and Russell) keep the viewer watching. This is actually one movie where I said ‘gee, Kurt Russell can actually act’. Possibly the only time I’ll say that. This was a stretch for him and I really liked it. Baldwin’s character is OK for me, nothing amazing, but decent. I really liked Donald Sutherland too. Even though he was thrown in as a rip-off of Hannibal Lectar (crazy criminal who tells them who the killer is if you talk to him about your past blah blah blah). Even though he led them toward the wrong people, possibly on purpose, and it was almost meaningless to have in the plot, I like Sutherland no matter what he’s in. Robert De Nero as always is too cool. You have to like him, even though his part wasn’t as big in this one. All in all, decent flick, worth watching, and possibly better than Ladder 49, as far as firefighter movies go.

    “Tango and Cash” Plot Summary

Two cops are framed and must clear their names. add synopsis

    A great action comedy.

Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell star as Ray Tango and Gabe Cash. This is the first time these 2 action stars have appeared on screen together. They both have good chemistry together and there are many funny one-liners. Tango and Cash are rival cops who ends up on the same case, but they’re both framed for murder. They lose their case and end up in jail, even worse they end up in general population after being switched overnight.

This was set up by a man who wants Tango and Cash off the streets because they’re the two toughest cops. Tango and Cash team up to break out of prison and find the man who framed them. The movie has plenty of funny moments, great shooting and fighting scenes. This is over the top and cheesy at times, but a really good action movie. This is just about the only movie where Stallone is funny too. He plays a character much different from his usual characters. Sly and Kurt Russell are 2 of the best action stars and they make a great duo. The movie also features a 25 year old Teri Hatcher who looks much better than she does now.

The cast is great, the movie is action-packed and the film is funny. This is very entertaining.

    “Wayne’s World” Plot Summary

Two slacker friends try to promote their public-access cable show. add synopsis

    Sure is unique

It’s not at all hard to see why this early nineties comedy quickly became a huge cult hit with teenagers across the globe. Director Penelope Spheeris’ off the wall approach coupled with the ridiculously silly script from Mike Myers (‘Wayne’), Bonnie and Terry Turner, really helps ‘Wayne’s World’ appeal to an audience fully prepared for cinema completely void of seriousness

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey are Wayne and Garth, two rockin’ dudes from Aurora, Illinois who have their own TV. show which they broadcast from Wayne’s basement. When ruthless entertainment executive Benjamin (Rob Lowe) sees the program, he signs the guys to a major network in the hope that he’ll be able to exploit them and make lots of money. Meanwhile Wayne has fallen for the lead singer of a local heavy metal band (she’s a Robo-babe). and Garth fantasises of one day getting up the nerve to talk to his dream woman, or perhaps even sing to her! Bursts of absolute hilarity (look for Wayne’s ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’) and segments of sheer stupidity leaves ‘Wayne’s World’ inconsistent, but there’s enough on going nutty humour to keep the viewer amused. Clever, tongue-in-cheek performances from the two leads and the supporting cast really help set the mood, while the whole movie’s ‘no set guidelines’ tack allows director Penelope Spheeris to do anything she pleases, and she does just that.’Laverne and Shirley’ get the royal treatment, as do many other telly and picture shows, and even Alice Cooper manages to send himself up. For something out of the ordinary, ‘Wayne’s World’ sure is unique

    “Vanilla Sky” Plot Summary

A successful publisher finds his life taking a turn for the surreal after a car accident with a jaded lover.

    great!

This film is really a great metaphor for the experience of spiritual enlightenment. It shows us how we can manipulate our surroundings and the way we view life using our memories. We can either create a wonderland or a nightmare. But the movie explains that neither of these lead to true fulfillment because we are only truly happy when we risk it all and really EXPERIENCE life. When we all want to live a real life all we need to do is stop thinking, open our eyes and LIVE. A great film i saw it after i had been reading a book on spiritual enlightenment and meditation and through this I was able to derive all these morals from it. :]

    “The Thing” Movie Review

    “The Thing” Plot Summary

Scientists in the Antarctic are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills.

Still my all time favorite sci-fi/horror!!!

The silly saying, ‘You can’t touch this’ surely applies here. With all the clone horror and sci-fi films coming out, along with all the inferior remakes, it’s hard to find anything worthy of 2 hours of your time. That’s why I always rely on the classics that scared the weewee out of me when I was a pre-teen

THE THING is, without an ounce of doubt in my mind, the goriest, ickiest, screechiest sci-fi horror classic that John Carpenter, or any other director (sorry, even you Mr. Spielberg) ever made. What really gives it power, though, is not the gore (it OOOOOZES of slime and blood and God knows what other fluids), but rather the sense of dread, isolation, and distrust it fosters in the characters and the viewer

You can’t get more remote than Antarctica, and in this howling, freezing white setting is where the story takes place. Several Americans, researchers and military men, are stationed there. One day, they witness a Siberian Husky dog running for dear life from gun-wielding Norwegians. Before they know it, the American outpost is battling a mysterious creature that can imitate any creature it wants. It may morph into disgusting slimy bloody shapes before it’s finished, but once it’s finished, if you didn’t see it in progress, you can’t tell it among humans or other normal Earth animals

Kurt Russell, Keith David, Wilford Brimley, Richard Masur, Donald Moffatt, TK Carter, Thomas Waites and Charles Hallahan are just a few of the fine cast. This film is the reason why horror CAN be a great genre. It actually STILL scares me. The alien blood ‘jumping’ out of the petri dish when the hot wire touches it still makes ME jump!!!Still the scariest of them all.
