“Into the Wild” Movie Review

“Into the Wild” Plot Summary

After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.

Oscar material

I watched this movie on the aeroplane after searching through the movie list and not finding anything else interesting to watch. I didn’t even know what the film was called until the ending credits. However, what I saw was amazing – the acting and scenery was excellent and the plot was thought provoking. More people should watch this to appreciate the message to us all. I was also surprised to see it was was actually a true story which made it even more interesting (I love films that are based on true stories). It is one of the best movies i’ve seen that portrays the contrast between a materialistic world vs the natural world that is at the core of the universe. This is a film that can easily be overlooked but not forgotten.

    “Panic Room” Plot Summary

A woman and her teenage daughter become imprisoned in the panic room of their own house by 3 criminals.

    thrilling!

Well, that was COOL! In fact, I was pretty disappointed by David Fincher’s last couple of movies, especially ‘The Game’ (real’ boring!), so I was a bit cautious, when started watching this one. It was Good. Well, I’ve heard some of the comments about the weak ending of the movie, but, believe me, it’s not that weak at all. Altogether we have here a thriller movie with a great photography work, some astounding effects and an atmosphere, thrilling you to the bone. And, of course, Jodie Foster, as good as this lady is. Note her performance in front of the couple of cops (possibly her best moment in the movie).

I give it 8/10 and highly recommend it to everyone. Have fun…

    “What Just Happened” Movie Review

    “What Just Happened” Plot Summary

Two weeks in the life of a fading Hollywood producer who’s having a rough time trying to get his new picture made.

A very entertaining and ironic, expository comedy!

I just love a good comedy, especially if it’s searingly expository and has that unique ability to blow you away with one-liners and exceptionally witty dialogue. Barry Levinson’s ‘What Just Happened’ is one such comedy

Written by Art Linson (and based on his memoir), the veteran Hollywood producer of, um…I have no idea what, this film is about a Hollywood producer (duh), who’s having trouble accompanied by serious amounts of stress in his life. His latest film which hasn’t yet been released is receiving hateful reviews because of a scene where a dog is murdered in cold-blood, so it’s his job to convince the high-strung, bohemian director to cut the scene away and fix the ending. (By the way, the dog IS fine, the animal wasn’t harmed). Meanwhile, his upcoming film is about to be closed down because the $20,000,000 star they hired for the leading macho heart-breaker leading role refuses to trim a Messiah-like beard and lose some weight

This producer has to deal with finding a way to fix up those two problems, and deal with two broken marriages for which he has to pay child support and alimony. Whta we’re entreated to is a very honest memoir-to-film view of Hollywood and the, supposedly, ab-fab lifestyles producers, directors and actors are involved in

Oh, don’t get me wrong. They DO live in multi-million dollar pads with every luxuriousness available to mankind, they DO travel in class and in the latest car designed, they DO believe themselves to be Kings of the World and therefore are entitled to throw hissies and destroy entire sets in a fit of rage because, ooh, they’re being paid twenty million dollars for a movie role and they refuse to shave their beards cuz it ‘interferes with their artistic sensibilities’.I consider this film to be an entertaining backstage look at how the movie-making process begins and ends, with high-chair studio executives controlling the board game, producers trying to make some sense into it, and directors and actors trying to salvage their artistic projects before they’re turned into money-grubbing crap

Have I mentioned most of the dialogue in the film is held through phone conversations? Well, it is. It sort of reminds me of ‘Dr. Strangelove’ and how important decisions and courses of actions are decided through the phone while the speakers try to deal with their own little dramas. Only that in ‘Dr. Strangelove’ it’s nuclear war and potential human extinction; here it’s beard-shaving and scene-cutting

The movie is, also, extremely funny. You’ll be chuckling your way through it all, and there’s a scene or two (plus a collection of stupendous one-liners) that will make you explode in laughter. Which, I think, is priceless nowadays, when apart from a few choice movies, every comedy churned out is basically silly and uninteresting

There’s a great deal of irony here. I won’t go into details for fear of spoiling a surprise or two, but I must say that the pervasive use of irony in the film is to be applauded. This is one of the truly entertaining movie experiences you’ll have

Rating: 3 stars and a half out of 4!!

    “New Moon” Movie Review

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Plot Summary

After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family…

    Exeedingly Better Than The First

First off, I don’t understand all the bashing for this movie. It was beautifully made and was FAR better made than the first movie. Then again most of these reviews don’t have proper spelling or grammar so I can’t take them very seriously. They also don’t have clear understanding of the book and are not judging the movie on how its made and how the movie sells the story line to someone who has never been exposed to the Twilight Saga

To start off, the beginning of the movie was sweet and slightly painful. Kristen Stewart’s acting with Robert Pattinson is horrible but then has the best chemistry with the rest of the characters. The moments with Jacob are touching and heartbreaking and I was damn-near brought to tears a few times because of it. Bella was actually sarcastic this time and what do you know, even the Cullen’s had their own personalities that ’sparkled’ perfectly! The story line was very true to the book, other than a few instances where I have no issue giving concessions since what they did helped the story line. There was only one major continuity issue, Harry Clearwater’s death, and some minor ones, the last scene was backwards Edward was supposed to propose to Bella and then have the confrontation with Jacob and I’m pretty sure I saw a sandy werewolf during the Victoria chase scene which would have been Seth who wasn’t introduced in the movie at all though he was in the book. The Werewolves and the Volturi had the perfect amount of screen time each in correlation to the book. The Werewolves were the band of brothers I always imagined and the Volturi were just as terrifying. Charlie, as always, made the movie even more perfect and even the little bit of Harry Clearwater we saw was brilliant. All in all, there isn’t much more I could have asked for from this movie. I only ask that those who don’t like the Twilight Saga, to which I have no issue with seeing as I live with three people who hate the series so much they leave the room when I say the word ‘Twilight’, see how well done this movie was made, especially compared to the disaster that was Twilight.

    “Twilight” Movie Review

    “Twilight” Plot Summary

A teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire.

    Twilight

I’m an avid Twilight reader and stalker (yes I went to Hot Topic tour.) I can’t remember a time when I was SO anxious and excited to see a movie. I just saw Twilight at a screening in San Francisco on 11/17. I left the theatre feeling..indifferent

First of all, I knew the movie was not going to be based exactly to the books but at the same time it kind of hurts me to say that it just wasn’t good. ~sigh I felt that the director Catherine tried to bring her indie elements into the Hollywood style movie that just didn’t work. The opening scene with the deer was alright, but I was just about to laugh out loud when the movie got to Edward and Bella finally acknowledging what Edward truly was. This was the biggest issue I had. I didn’t think viewers were able to experience the intensity of Bella and Edward relationship. I wouldn’t believe that Bella was ready to place her undying pledge to go vamp at the end. The scene was so choppy, where it felt like the scene was full of greatest hits of one liners all cram into this one scene. It wasn’t the turning point as where it should have been. The movie was clearly not based on romance, which is the ultimate theme of the book. The movie hastily breezed through the courtship development to finally get to the lingering action sequence

I like Robert but he just couldn’t pull off a convincing Edward. His reaction to Bella in Biology class was just laughable. Again Catherine trying to pull the artsy camera cuts— silly, silly. Jasper’s reaction was humorous also

Edward’s showing Bella who he was in the sun was not remarkable. His body hardly glisten. Couldn’t they get Britney’s Swarovski body suit from her ‘Toxic’ video? The movie nicely brought out Rosalie’s dislike for Bella. Alice was very convincing and good. Carlise was attractive and fitting

I was surprised by the diverse student body of Forks. I liked Jessica a lot. It was hard to see her as the small minded character as how she was written in the book

All in all, this movie wasn’t made for fans of the book, but to lure moviegoers into (hopefully) the film franchise

Little things that could have been included in the movie to make the readers happy wasn’t included. Such as why couldn’t Bella wear the blue V neck sweater when meeting the Cullens for the first time? Why couldn’t Bella attack Edward on the onset of their first kiss? Why couldn’t Edward’s couch be black? Why did James bite Bella on her forearm and not her hand? As a Twilighter, I think I may go see it again just to see if my reactions change, but I wouldn’t recommend this film to any non-Twilighters.
