    “Kingpin” Plot Summary

A star bowler whose career was prematurely “cut off” hopes to ride a new prodigy to success and riches. add synopsis

    Funny and quite good…

A bowling star has everything going for him. He wins every tournament…and he is quite popular…that is…until some jealous gang-bangers put him in an ‘accident’ in which he ends up without a hand, which means that he will have to live for the rest of his days with a hook as a substitute. Many years later, he is a mean old grouch, but then he meets a bowling star from the Amish country who reminds him of his glory days…before his horrific ‘accident.’ He vows to teach him how to bowl like a pro…and in this way, he can somehow feel as if he is accomplishing something…as if he hasn’t lost his ability to play after all

Overall, a pretty good film, Kingpin will leave you laughing, but since a lot of it is old style humor, many think it is a waste of their time

With Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, and Randy Quaid

    “World’s Greatest Dad” Movie Review

    “World’s Greatest Dad” Plot Summary

A comedy about a man who learns that the things you want most may not be the things that make you happy, and that being lonely is not necessarily the same as being alone.

Nice Black Comedy for Williams and Bobcat

World’s Greatest Dad (2009) *** (out of 4) One of the blackest of all black comedies features Robin Williams as Lance, a failed teacher, failed boyfriend and failed father to an obnoxious pervert (Daryl Sabara) who masturbates too much, is hated by everyone and who has no real purpose in life. After a tragedy and a lie the father must then come to terms with something that I won’t ruin here. When people think of Goldthwait, 99% of them are going to think of the crazy guy from the POLICE ACADEMY films and only 1% are going to know him as a filmmaker. SHAKES THE CLOWN has gained a cult following over the years and there’s no doubt that this film will eventually be looked at as not a great movie but one that after watching you’ll want to stand up and applaud the filmmakers for delivering something completely original and different. It’s hard to really describe this movie because it’s best that you go into it without knowing all of the details and how we get to the events in the second half. I’m sure you could show this movie to a hundred people and each one of them would walk away feeling the movie was about something different. I think the film certainly shines the spotlight on parenthood, teen suicide and how we worship celebs and how those celebs even become famous. The movie has so many layers that people are going to take different things away from it but I really respected the comedy of the first half and then the drama of the second. The first half of the movie is full of vulgar situations as the loser son offends one person after another and the viewer can’t help but hate him. There’s never an attempt to make us like him and that’s usually not a good thing in a comedy if you hate the leading man. We’re not even given a reason to like the father played by Williams, although I’m sure one could feel sorry for him because of how big of a loser he is to everyone around him. If you do find yourself caring for him then that might change after the events in the second half of the movie. Everyone was informed about Williams and his full frontal nudity but more people should really look at his terrific performance. I guess raw might be a simple word but the entire Williams persona is cleaned away and we’re seeing a performance from him that we haven’t seen before. I’ve always felt that he was a better dramatic actor than a comedic one but he handles both sides extremely well here. Sabara is just as great as the perverted son and Alexie Gilmore is wonderful as Williams’ girlfriend. The film hits on all sorts of rather taboo subjects but for the most part is looks them directly in the face and doesn’t back down. I’m sure the subject matter might be too much for certain film fans but I think those looking for a rather brave and original piece of film-making is going to at least respect what we get here even if they find themselves feeling uncomfortable.

“Legends of the Fall” Plot Summary

Epic tale of three brothers and their father living in the remote wilderness of 1900s USA and how their lives are affected by nature, history, war, and love.

    Comedy for the ages

One of the top comedies of the 1990s. Unintentionally, of course. There’s really no other way to take it. Yes, the cinematography is fine. As for the rest … Anthony Hopkins channels Popeye. Brad Pitt channels his hair (I wasn’t aware long, flowing locks were all the rage among officers of the Great War). The sheer heavy-handedness and predictability of the story. … Seriously, when I saw this in the theater, I burst out laughing several times — most notably, the ludicrous scene involving the barbed wire and the machine gun. Hard to believe this is the work of the same director who made ‘Glory’ and ‘Courage Under Fire.’

    “Hancock” Movie Review

    “Hancock” Plot Summary

A hard-living superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public enters into a questionable relationship with the wife of the public relations professional who’s trying to repair his image.

    This deserves some credit

Perhaps I’m being generous, but I think this movie deserves some credit. It’s a serious take on a dysfunctional superhero that isn’t based upon a Marvel Comics or DC Comics character. The special effects aren’t as good as a movie like Transformers, but at least you aren’t getting an animated CGI character hopping around like you do in Hulk and Spiderman. It appears that several elements of this movie may be inspired by the now defunct Broadway Comics. The classic scene of a car being skewered on a spire was depicted in the ‘Powers That Be’ comic and the dysfunctional marriage relationship in the movie is not unlike the ‘Shadow State’ comic by Broadway. Perhaps seeing similar depictions hit the big screen made me appreciate the movie more

Will Smith and Charlize Theron do a great job. The hero is flawed, but he’s not a wimp. The movie’s biggest weakness is the pacing. Some of the special effects go by so fast that you don’t get to appreciate them. Some of the drama plays out so slowly that you might be wondering why they don’t rush it along. The movie is faithful to the trailer. It’s tough writing a spoiler-free review of this since there are some great twists in the plot.

    “Batman Begins” Plot Summary

The story of how Bruce Wayne became what he was destined to be: Batman.

    Excellent Batman

‘Batman Begins’ is certainly the best among the five movies of this great hero released in the theaters. After 1776 reviews in IMDb, I do not know what I can write that have not been written before. In my opinion, this film begins wonderful with the director, Christopher Nolan, of the fantastic ‘Memento’, one of my favorite movies. The cast is a constellation, composed of excellent actors and actress: Christian Bale is awesome in the role of the troubled and confused Bruce Wayne; Michael Caine, as Alfred, elegant, gentle and tough, is also perfect; Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, Hutger Hauer are very evil bad guys; Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman complete this lovely cast. The special effects are very good, and the cinematography recalls ‘Blade Runner’, with rainy and dark locations. The story explains the origins of Batman since his childhood in Gotham City. The soundtrack fits perfectly to the scenes. It is amazing to see that there are bad reviews of this movie, which is a very above average entertainment. My vote is nine

    “Hairspray” Movie Review

    “Hairspray” Plot Summary

Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.

    I Am Shocked

I am shocked at how much I liked this movie. When I first heard about it, I wasn’t too excited. I’m not a big fan of musicals and I didn’t think this would make me warm up to them. But I really loved this movie. It was absolutely fantastic. I was forced into seeing this movie and I didn’t expect it to be that good

My sister asked me to take her daughters, Jacqueline and Emma to see the movie and I was a little reluctant to at first, but I eventually agreed to go. It wasn’t as good as Transformers, but it was a ton of fun! My nieces were smiling to the whole movie and so was I. It was just very funny and extremely enjoyable

The whole cast was absolutely superb. Nikki Blonsky has talent. She pulled off the role of Tracy great. Amanda Bynes was great as Tracy’s pal, Penny. I like Amanda, she is a funny girl. John Travolta as Edna, Tracy’s mom. Wow. Pretty good. Michelle Pheiffer and Brittany Snow play snotty mother and daughter, Velma and Amber Von Tussel. They were pretty funny. Christopher Walken is excellent as always. Queen Latifa as Motormouth Maybelle was pretty damn hilarious. Zac Efron as the dreamy Linc Larkin. He was pretty cool. Elijah Kelley as Seaweed was just awesome! The script was pretty awesome. The songs were good and you may find yourself tapping your feet to the music. The dialogue was fun and absolutely hilarious. The characters were very, very likable. You may even grow attached to the antagonists. It was very well written and the cast proved that even more

If you want to have a fun time at the movies, I really recommend Hairspray. Even the guys will love it. The songs, script, and cast were all excellent and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Even though I loathe musicals, this one was great. Go watch it. It’s very entertaining

    “Coach Carter” Movie Review

    “Coach Carter” Plot Summary

Controversy surrounds high school basketball coach Ken Carter after he benches his entire team for their breaking their academic contract with him.

One of the best movies around

This movie isn’t just about sport but has an underlying moral message which is been shown throughout the film. Sport won’t get you far unless your a great but study and hard work in school will get you everywhere. Enter, a town that is quite poor and a basketball team who just want to win. Once Ken Carter accepts the job, the whole team changes and it is for the better. Another message this film teaches is respect, at the beginning just after meeting the boys, Ken expresses a need for the boys to show respect not only for themselves but for their friends and elders. He does this by explaining how the word ‘nigger’ can be used as a degrading term and how by dressing themselves with respect, behaving respectfully isn’t bad at all

As soon as I saw this film, I knew that I wanted to see it. It has everything that makes a great movie, action, great dialog and most importantly, a good moral message and in a time where morally corrupt movies are on the rise, a great movie like this is a rare find

Intiallly, my friends didn’t want to see this movie with me as they thought it was boring, and too intense but after months and months of waiting, I finally hired it out on DVD and watched it

You can actually take things away from this movie and it has a very good morals which can be applicable to everyone.

“Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” Movie Review

    “Lemony Snicket” Plot Summary

Three wealthy children’s parents are killed in a fire. When they are sent to a distant relative, they find out that he is plotting to kill them and seize their fortune.

    The Marvellous Movie

It was wonderful. I’m sorry, skeptics, but it really was

The costumes were really unique. I liked how they seemed to draw inspiration from several different time periods

I really loved Liam Aiken and Emily Browning as Klaus and Violet Baudelaire- even though they didn’t fit my mental images of the characters, they proved themselves over and over again throughout the course of the film. Emily Browning has a history of doing excellent films, and after seeing her in the comparatively small role of Ned Kelly’s sister I had a lot of faith in her. I wasn’t quite as sure about Liam Aiken because I hadn’t seen any of his work, but I was pleasantly surprised

Sunny Baudelaire (as played by Kara and Shelby Hoffman) was just done perfectly. Everybody in the cinema laughed at the subtitles. I seriously didn’t think that it was possible for two-year-olds to be good at acting, but the Hoffman twins convinced me otherwise

The musical score was brilliantly done and the sets were, in a word, epic. I felt *dizzy* whenever there were panoramic shots of Lake Lachrymose, for heaven’s sakes! There were some scenes which were not in the books- such as the theme of sanctuary, the spyglasses, the lost letter from the Baudelaire parents. As a Lemony Snicket obsessive I expected to fume at these scenes, but they worked wonderfully

Keep an eye out for the hilarious ‘Littlest Elf’ sequence at the beginning and the amazing animated credits (complete with a song from the film ‘The Addams Family’, possibly a nod to Barry Sonnenfield, who is credited as a producer).

I am giving this film a 9 out of 10 simply because I am a fan of the books and there were a couple of story details I felt could have been communicated better

Excellent stuff! If there are any sequels, they can only improve.

An FBI agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. add synopsis

    Wonderful comedy, unmissable!

I absolutely loved Miss Congeniality, it was funny warm and completely likable. The best aspect was the charming and funny performance of the underrated Sandra Bullock as Gracie, in possibly her best role. Gracie is a beautiful woman, but her behaviour like the pig snorting isn’t very typical of women. She is excellently supported by a witty, side splittingly funny script, and some lovely camera-work. (the painting scene was priceless)Not to mention the original plot that never marred the feel good nature of the film. The performances of Michael Caine and Candice Bergen were excellent. But if I had one minor criticism, it would be that William Shatner slightly overplayed his part of Stan, other than that it is a comedy you just don’t want to miss. 9.5/10 Bethany Cox.

    “The Karate Kid” Movie Review

    “The Karate Kid” Plot Summary

A handyman/martial arts master agrees to teach a bullied boy karate and shows him that there is more to the martial art than fighting.

    Karate Kid

Best movie ever!!! The chemistry between Ralph Macchio and Elisabeth Shue is pure gold! This movie is really relatable to just about everyone who ever got picked on. I also think Pat Morita did a great job in reducing vocabulary while retaining intelligence for this movie. Another thing that really impressed me was that I heard that Billy Zabka really took that kick to the face in the conclusion of the tournament. The characters really play off of each other and the result is astounding. One thing however I find almost unbelievable, is that in this movie, Ralph Macchio is almost 23 years old. With his ability to pull off such a young role and his performances in The Outsiders along with these Karate Kid movies I believe he is one of the best actors ever. All in all, this movie is a must see and an extremely good classic.
