“Shrek the Third” Movie Review

“Shrek 3″ Plot Summary

When his new father-in-law, King Harold falls ill, Shrek is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to install the rebellious Artie as the new king. Princess Fiona, however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fend off a coup d’etat by the jilted Prince Charming.

Funny With a Great Message

When Fiona’s father and King of Far Far Away passes away, the clumsy Shrek becomes the immediate successor of the throne. However, Shrek decides to find the legitimate heir Artie in a distant kingdom with his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to be able return to his beloved house in the swamp with the pregnant Fiona. Meanwhile, the envious and ambitious Prince Charming joins the villains of the fairy tales plotting a coup d’etat to become the new king.’Shrek the Third’ is very funny, having a great message in the end and completely underrated in IMDb. There are many unfair reviews and I really do not understand what these users have seen to dislike in this animation. There are many new characters from the fairy tales, but all of them has space along the plot, in at least one scene, and I liked, for example, the Cyclops with his beautiful daughter or the lines of Captain Hook just to mention two of them. I saw a version dubbed in Portuguese and the dialogs are excellent. The soundtrack is a plus and I loved ‘Immigrant Song’ and ‘Baraccuda’ in the attack of the heroines. My vote is eight

“Mary Poppins” Movie Review

“Mary Poppins” Plot Summary

A magic nanny comes to work for a cold banker’s unhappy family.

Practically Perfect

Mary Poppins is, without a doubt, the finest non-animated film in the Disney canon (yes, there is lots of animation) and a genuine classic

I won’t repeat what’s been said in the many fine reviews here on IMDb, I’ll just say that there are a few problems that are glaring and make the film a tad less enjoyable for me: 1. Dick van Dyke’s cockney accent is horrible. He sounds like an American imitating a Londoner trying to imitate a cockney. It’s bloody awful! While I find his singing and dancing admirable and entertaining, his speaking voice is nails-on-slate. Had the producers just dubbed his speaking voice with that of Michael Caine – a real cockney – I wouldn’t find this so annoying. This is tune out number one.2. The film is too long. Some judicious cutting, especially of a couple of the lesser musical numbers, would have been in order. Also, the final boardroom scene in the bank goes on for far too long

This is outweighed by the utter charm of the whole thing and the near-magical presence of the splendid Julie Andrews – a performer worthy of admiration if there ever was one. This is a woman with talent, incredible personal charm, and true charisma. She is a leading lady, pure and simple. She more than makes up for the aforementioned minor problems for every second she is on screen is magic

One glaring omission from all the reviews I’ve read is an appreciation of the two ladies who played the elder servants in the household – the American character actress Reta Shaw and the British Hermione Baddley (sp?). Both lend top-notch support and are quite wonderful, especially Shaw, who was one of the most popular and talented character actresses of her era. (She is best remembered for her semi-recurring role on TV’s BEWITCHED and for her presence in most of Doris Day’s films.) Shaw was a skilled song-and-dance performer with a deep voice and commanding presence and a master scene stealer.

    “The Pacifier” Movie Review

    “The Pacifier” Plot Summary

Disgraced Navy SEAL Shane Wolfe is handed a new assignment: Protect the five Plummer kids from enemies of their recently deceased father — a government scientist whose top-secret experiment remains in the kids’ house. add synopsis

    Absolutely Hysterical

My entire family loves this movie. It is non-stop hysterics. It has everything: fight scenes for the guys, Vin Diesel wearing nothing but a towel for the ladies, baby poop for gross little boys, girl scouts doing karate on boy scouts for little girls, and quite a few heart-warming family moments

Plot line goes as follows: Lt. Shane Wolf, a high ranking Navy seal is leading a mission to rescue a military security expert, Professor Plummer, from kidnappers. He has created a program that will prevent enemy countries from being able to launch their own nuclear weapons. The professor is killed and the program never found. It is believed to be at the professor’s home with his wife and five young kids. Lt. Wolf is assigned to protect them and locate the program known as ‘Ghost.’ The mother will spend the movie in Switzerland trying to figure out the password that will enable her to access a safety deposit box left by her late husband. Lt. Wolf will stop at nothing to protect the children. Although first at odds with the children, he learns what it feels like to be a father and grows to love it and them

I had never seen a Vin Diesel movie before and was very surprised as to how good he was in this movie. The best character in the movie is Murney, played by Brad Garrett. He almost stole the movie because he portrayed this loony character so well. He had the best lines and will leave you in stitches. Although no man will admit to enjoying this movie (too much of a threat to their macho personas), I consider it to be an excellent family movie.

    “Shrek 2″ Movie Review

    “Shrek 2″ Plot Summary

Princess Fiona’s parents invite her and Shrek to dinner to celebrate her marriage. If only they knew the newlyweds were both ogres.

Just as good as the first

Shrek 2 is a very entertaining sequel and a good family film. This film follows Shrek and Fiona who had just came back from there honeymoon and Fiona’s parents, the King and Queen of Far Far Away (get the joke) invite them to visit the kingdom. Unfortunately they don’t know that Fiona was turned into a ogre, and not back into her human form. Fiona’s dad was shocked, wanting Fiona to marry Prince Charming (this was hinted at in the first film), and admits to have Shrek assassinated by Puss-in-Boots. Shrek then tries to make himself into the man Fiona wants and at the same time Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother plot to get Fiona to fall in love with Prince Charming

This film works on many levels, it has a decent story and makes fun and uses many aspects of famous fairy tales. The Fairy Godmother is the main villain in this film which is a good twist. The film also parodies many things that could appeal to adults, such as an Alien parody, and there are more general references to films like Lord of the Rings, Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones. There are also cultural references such as Starbucks and a parody of Hollywood. There is a good supporting cast to the film. I liked Antonio Banderas as Puss-in-Boots, Julie Andrews, John Cleese and Rupert Everett. I also thought that it was a very good move to cast Jennifer Saunders as the Fairy Godmother. In the British version we got Jonathan Ross and Kate Thornton in the film which I thought was pretty fun. The animation of the film is top-notch and is possibly the best around. It is the most realistic in style and some of the little details are really good, such as seeing the freckles on Fiona’s face. The also has fun little Easter Eggs and need to watch the film again to notice them, such as in the beginning of the film the Big Bad Wolf was reading a ‘Pork Illustrated’ magazine. I enjoyed the creation of Puss-in-Boots as a character and thought he was great. A little sidenote was that he looked liked my cat who was a young kitten at the time and thought it was a fun coincidence. My only problem of the film was the occasional fart joke, but it is aimed for children, so I can understand why they done it

Shrek 2 is a very good, but it was a shame that the third on was no where need as good.

    “The Princess Diaries” Movie Review

    “The Princess Diaries” Plot Summary

A socially awkward but very bright 15-year-old girl being raised by a single mom discovers that she…

Great Movie for the ‘Awkward’ Girl in All of Us.

I remember when I first watched this movie. I was an intensely tomboyish preteen and pretty much against all media with the word ‘Princess’ even associated with it. Needless to say, I was not super excited when my cousins came over and popped this bad boy(err..girl) in our VCR. I honestly didn’t expect much: Disney, princess, tiaras, romance, please

But as I began watching it, I soon realized that I identified completely with Mia,(Anne Hathaway) an extremely awkward teenage girl who was rebellious, weird, unpopular, and yet, was offered the one thing that almost all teenage girls dream of: princess-ship, complete with new looks, limos, balls, gowns, hot guys, and power. Whoop!Yet, she practically had to be dragged into it kicking and screaming. Forget preppy hair do’s! Just leave me alone! Here was a princess story I could relate to! Mia wasn’t some whistling girl with a pure heart who caught birds on her fingers while working at a terrible job, that really wasn’t that terrible because she made it fun! She was an ungraceful chick who had learned to cope with the hardships of life, but not in the usual way. Everything about her was weird, and she liked it like that

But Mia had to grow up during this movie. She went from awkward to awesome in a matter of two hours. I loved the transformation were she went from laughed at, to applauded for by the end when she slams ice cream all over Lana’s(Mandy Moore) cheer leading outfit(something I personally loved because I was not particularly fond of cheer leading at this point..) Overall, great chick/ teen girl flick. It makes you believe that no matter how messed up your life is or you are, you still have a chance to be some super cool girl. And who doesn’t want to be a princess? Really.
