“Horton Hears a Who!” Movie Review
“Horton Hears a Who!” Plot Summary
Horton the Elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.
A masterpiece– and funny, too!
I remember hearing about this film when it came out. And, you know what I thought? ‘Oh, this will be an ordinary children’s film that won’t have a good rating on IMDb.’ Then my mother and I came to see it, not fully knowing what to expect… And when I came out of the cinema, I was in absolute awe of ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ Let me tell you why. First of all, the film had excellent humour (including a genius anime parody sequence), yet it also possessed gripping suspense and heartrending drama. It’s likely that you’ll laugh AND cry– the climax made me excited– and probably do either or both loudly. What would happen to the Whos? Secondly, the animation is beautiful– stunningly detailed, yet not too realistic. And, finally– did I mention the intense emotions that this film made me feel? Overall, this film is a masterpiece with the perfect balance of drama and humour. Adults will love the delicious drama, while the younger people will get a good laugh. Bring the whole family — you may not regret it!

“10 Items or Less” Plot Summary
An actor (Freeman) prepping for an upcoming role meets a quirky grocery clerk (Vega), and the pair hit the road to show one another their respective worlds. add synopsis
A simple, enjoyable, and ‘down home’ kind of movie.
Bravo! Morgan Freeman is an actor, who researches a character he is selected to play, before he makes a commitment. Freeman is a ‘good fit’ for this film (like he was for ‘Driving Miss Daisy’), and he is not only believable, but he gets a chance to change his image of playing a character with reserved dignity and propriety. Although there are no guarantees in life, for anyone, this gives an actor a great opportunity to play different or unique characters that stand out, in order to avoid getting stereotyping. And it must be said that stereotyping has hampered, or completely ruined, a significant number of acting careers
This is a low-budget film that, amazingly, was made in a time span of only two weeks. It is a film that is well directed and written by Brad Silberling. The location manager chose Carson, CA for the film’s setting, and the location helps set the tone and timing for the film. The editing is fair to good, but a little rough
Silberling was the ’subcontractor’, in getting Freeman to do this film, while the actor was in-between film projects
There is a good chemistry between Freeman and Paz Vega, a Spanish actress, and this opens an effective dialog between each of the cast members, who are diverse and come from different cultures. The film also encourages an understanding between people, who not only speak two languages (English and Spanish), but come from two different worlds of ethnicity, race, gender, norms, mores, beliefs, folkways, principles, and values. The film strives for some honesty, and arrives at some truth, to maintain the film’s integrity
Part of the comedy is that Freeman plays an unemployed actor that has been out of work for four years. In truth, Freeman is so-in-demand as an actor that he is constantly working
The film offers an adventure of bonding, caring, sharing, changing, and exchanging. And, the film’s outtakes give the viewer a preview of some of things an actor must go through in preparing for a role
If necessary, tell your boss that you’re taking a ‘mental health day’, and go see this film. If you’re able, take your significant other or your family with you. I rank the film a 10 out of 10. It’s enjoyable, interesting, informative, poignant, and worthwhile.

“Knocked Up” Movie Review
“Knocked Up” Plot Summary
For fun loving party animal Ben Stone, the last thing he ever expected was for his one night stand to show up on his doorstep eight weeks later to tell him she’s pregnant.
Funny
‘Knocked-Up’ was far better than I had hoped. I was not impress with the ‘40 Year-Old Virgin’ or ‘Superbad’ which were crass and uninspiring. ‘Knocked-Up’ in stark contrast still maintains the adolescence humor of ‘40 Year-Old Virgin’ or ‘Superbad’ but is far more intelligent and witty, bordering at times on comedic brilliance. It is also able to match the comedy with a sincere thread throughout, which is hard to achieve. Seth Rogen is great as the expectant father, I am unsure how much of the script was improvised but there were many moments of laugh-out-loud originality, the whole cast delivers on the acting front. At times the jokes can be a little too crude, but overall they are well managed. Special mention to the scene in the Las Vegas hotel between Rogen and Paul Rudd, high on mushrooms their interplay is spot-on and it is moments like this which make it memorable
The one criticism I do have is the last 30 minutes, the gags do not seem to work as well due to the more serious tone, and the film lumbers a little. I respect that the film wanted to make an emotional punch at the end but it dallied a little too long.’Knocked-Up’ is an enjoyable film and I recommend that you make an effort to watch it.

“The 40 Year Old Virgin” Movie Review
“The 40 Year Old Virgin” Plot Summary
Goaded by his buddies, a nerdy guy who’s never “done the deed” only finds the pressure mounting when he meets a single mother.
The funniest comedy since ‘THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY’ ; Steve Carell is a comic genius – the year’s funniest film!
THE 40 YEAR-OLD VIRGIN (2005) **** Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie Mann, Jane Lynch, Gerry Bednob, Shelley Malil, Kat Dennings. Hysterically funny high-concept comedy about the titular Andy Stitzer (wonderfully played by perennial second banana Carell in a truly extraordinarily comic breakthrough performance sure to stratosphere him to the A-list), a tech services rep for an electronics store in Southern California who is found out about his secretive identity by a trio of well-meaning yet entirely clueless womanizing co-worker buddies (Rudd, Malco & Rogen, each one degree funnier than the next) determined to get their friend deflowered no matter the cost. What follows is an unlikely yet very warm-hearted romance with a vivacious mother (the marvelous Keener having lots of fun here) leading to add more fuel to the fires within Andy. A surprisingly good-spirited and unapologetically raunchy romantic comedy; the funniest since ‘There’s Something About Mary’ with a shrewdly observant script by director Judd Apatow and Carell that features some astoundingly gut-busting sequences including a scathingly accurate David Caruso joke, homophobic debunking ribbing, send-ups of ‘date-a-paloozas’ and demystifying the war of the sexes with cheeky aplomb. A true winner and an instant classic; the funniest film of the year.

“Superbad” Movie Review
“Superbad” Plot Summary
Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.
Definitely the best Apatow-group film yet
I enjoyed ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin,’ but didn’t feel it was entirely worthy of all the enormous acclaim it garnered. And for all the praise ‘Knocked Up’ received, I thought it was fairly average. So I wasn’t expecting much from ‘Superbad.’ However, I’d have to say it’s the smartest and funniest Apatow film yet. I know he didn’t direct it, but his influence is distinct. And in the past I’ve felt indifferent towards Apatow’s brand of humour, but combined with Rogen’s sensitivity towards the teen condition here, it works really well
People have compared it to John Hughes’ better teen comedies, but I don’t think the approach is entirely similar. ‘Superbad’ is cruder, ruder, a bit more focused on the sex & alcohol jokes. But it works really well because it captures that dynamic – better than ‘American Pie’ because it invests more care into its characters. One of the strengths of ‘Pie’ over other films in its genre (such as, say, ‘Slackers’) has always been its characters, and ‘Superbad’ similarly relies on its characters for support. Plus, it’s just really funny
The performances all around are pretty funny, even if the Fogell/McLovin pop culture references are ruining a good joke (kind of like ‘Yeah, baby!!’ ruined Austin Powers when 20-year-old frat boys around the country thought it would be funny to shout the phrase every five seconds).
Jonah Hill and Michael Cera have great chemistry and another one of the strengths of this film is that its teenage characters actually do look their age (even though Hill is in his early 20s, he still passes as a senior). But it was Bill Hader and Seth Rogen who stole the show for me as the clueless cops
Overall this is just a funny, well-made film with heart. It doesn’t mock its characters or their predicaments but casts a knowing eye on the high school experience. It captures all this very well and was certainly, in my opinion, far superior to ‘Knocked Up.’

“Funny People” Movie Review
“Funny People” Plot Summary
When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.
Funny People… Smart Movie
Funny People: 8 out of 10: What is amazing about Funny people is considering its set-up and storyline it manages to deftly dodge a veritable minefield of bathos laid out before it. The story is about comedian, who is super rich after a string of really bad comedies (Adam Sandler playing himself), finds he has version of leukemia and well is going to die soon. Therefore, he reflects back on his life makes amends and chases the girl that got away with the help of new assistant, a thin Seth Rogen
Yes, it is what we hipsters would call Narm city. Yet this Judd Aptow directed flick is so self aware of the pitfalls that it not just avoids them for the most part but in a true stand up comic style calls them out. This is at its heart a very smart and aware film. What could have been Terms of Endearment with dick jokes turns into an occasionally funny and somewhat touching film. It is also a very real film about real people and I am going to repeat myself here but it is truly smart
The only real downside I see is that I really do not see myself watching this film again anytime soon. It is a great ride but it never reaches that next level. The movie consists of some very funny bits, but do not come aboard expecting belly laughs. In addition, while I found myself enjoying the laid back pace at 153 minutes there is no question this feels more like a directors cut than a tightly paced theatrical release.

“Evan Almighty” Movie Review
“Evan Almighty” Plot Summary
God contacts Congressman Evan Baxter and tells him to build an ark in preparation for a great flood. add synopsis
Good kids movie
Having read before all those negative comments, I was rather skeptical about EA, but while watching I realized that one should have taken this movie just for what it really was. It’s not a comedy (from an adult perspective, that is), and it’s not a sequel to ‘Bruce Almighty’. What a huge mistake to bill it as a sequel to that different kind of a film! Evan could have been anybody here, and the plot has nothing really in common with BA. And why is Evan almighty, by the way? Totally wrong title
OK, so EA is a children movie, and surprisingly a rather good one. It may look predictable and plain to grown-ups, but for a child it would be awesome. And not only due to the special effects and those stupendous trained animals. The simple, straightforward messages about ‘acts of random kindness’, family values, and faith work very well in many instances. Of, course, grumpy old men may rant about Evan’s easy chatting with God, about the wife abandoning him first and with no care for medical help, about the hordes of animals gathering around him only in some inappropriate moments, or about the under-exploited talents of Lauren Graham, Wanda Sykes and John Goodman
And now let me put in my own joke (for the adult viewers let down by the lack of real humor in EA). It looks like these days we need God’s direct intervention, a flooding and an ark to impeach a malevolent congressman.
