“Star Trek 9: Insurrection” Plot Summary

When the crew of the Enterprise learn of a Federation plot against the inhabitants of a unique planet, Capt. Picard begins an open rebellion. add synopsis

    Excellent!!!

This is one of the best Star Trek movies! It is exciting, funny and supported by Jerry Goldsmith’s fourth Star Trek score. In contrast to Star Trek-First Contact very many scenes of the film do not play on the Enterprise, but on the paradise-like planet of the Ba’ku. This film is not only exciting, it also criticizes society. In many countries, for example in Ireland, people of the same races fight each other. This movie illustrates that these fights are senseless and that all people belong to one race. Jerry Goldsmith’s score is also very extraordinary which makes the movie even more worth watching. Especially the Ba’ku theme is so good that you have after having seen this movie a good impression of it.

    “Conspiracy Theory” Plot Summary

Jerry Fletcher is a man who sees conspiracies everywhere. But if you keep doing that long enough, sooner or later you’re going to get one right… add synopsis

breathtaking film, outstanding performances you only wish it won’t happen to you.

We have all thought that certain incidents that we can’t explain or the explanation we were given was inadequate, could be because of a greater secret plan or conspiracy, i.e Elvis death, Princess Diana’s accident or JFK’s assasination are some of those mysteries. Well in this film Mel Gibson sees a conspiracy everywhere and tries to pursuade Julia Roberts, that certain ‘incidents’ weren’t quite as they seem. His whole behaviour though tends to be slightly psychotic and therefore no-one really pays attention to him. Except for Julia, who’s not quite sure what to believe. Until the day that Mel is abducted by Patrick Stewart and then gets away, only to show up in the justice department where Julia works, all covered in blood. When Julia hears his story she starts wondering for the first time ‘…what if….’ The story becomes faster and faster and now Julia is a target too

Outstanding performances, great script, brilliant direction

    WELL DONE!

You are never too old to have fun

What movie with Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones. James Garner, James Cromwell, Donald Sutherland, and Marcia Gay Harden wouldn’t be worth a look. This one has it all, but mostly laughs. This Clint Eastwood produced and directed movie is great simply because the cast doesn’t appear to take it seriously. They are just having fun. And special effects? They are better here than other movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact

If you like movies where people are considered outdated or replaceable and prove the experts wrong, then this is the one. I watch it and keep getting reminded about all those COBOL experts who were back making the big bucks just prior to the millennium change.

“Star Trek VII: Generations” Plot Summary

Capt. Picard, with the help of supposedly dead Capt. Kirk, must stop a madman willing to murder on a planetary scale in order to enter a space matrix. add synopsis

One of the best, next to ST:First Contact

This is undoubtedly one of the best Star Trek films next to First contact. The special FX were superb, the plot was excellent, acting was excellent, and one of the most striking things about the film was the beautiful filming locations

The beginning started off a little weak but towards the middle of the film the movie began to strut it’s stuff. Once the plot forms after the destruction of a Federation science station the movie will not fail you. The Enterprise-Klingon battle scene was excellent, and the factor which allows the Enterprise to win is also very interesting. Although the part on the planets surface where Picard tries to stop Soran (Malcolm McDowell) was a little weak, especially where Picard magically escapes Soran’s 3 disruptor blasts unharmed, the scenes after that were spectacular. After entering the Nexus and realizing he must go back to save the crew of the Enterprise (and the Solar System they are in) Picard seeks Kirk’s help (William Shatner). I was truly amazed by the filming locations, they were downright beautiful! Kirk and Picard fit very nicely into it, and it is easy to see why Kirk would not want to leave ‘the Nexus’. The ending fight between Soran and the Kirk-Picard team was a bit sub-par compared to other ST movies, but none-the-less it put a very nice touch to the end of the movie. The way that they leave the story open to a another movie is very well done, and I have to say it fits in very nice with ST: First Contact

I would definitely recommend renting or buying this movie, and if you watched it on TV then I have to tell you to go rent the movie, because many scenes were ‘edited’ out to fit the movie in a 2-hour timeslot.

“Star Trek VIII: First Contact” Plot Summary

Capt. Picard and his crew pursue the Borg back in time to stop them from preventing Earth from initiating first contact with alien life. add synopsis

    Great Movie, Read Brief Review

I have to start off by saying, that I am a Startrek buff. I LOVE everything there is to do with Startrek, and have viewed every episode of TNG and DS9 ever aired. I have also seen every Startrek movie created, and could name at least 50 people that resided on the Enterprise during TNG (not necessarily the entire show, some moved on, died, etc.).I feel that this was probably tied for the best Startrek movie ever created. I feel that First Contact and Generations are the best two ever created. This movie combines a lot of action, as well as realistic predicament, and very realistic scenarios. This certainly fit into the storyline as plausible, and never once made you ask how did this happen

The short-version of this review is that the film was extremely successful, and very good quality. It had good acting, a great storyline, and pretty good special effects. It also had some nice upgrades to ship and uniforms that look absolutely fabulous, that almost make me want to wear one all the time! Great movie for Startrek and Scifi fans. This movie would be a good movie for any Scifi fan, with an easy storyline to follow, that doesn’t require much previous TNG knowledge to follow

Below is a long, drawn out commentary. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t read further. I have worked hard to keep it spoiler free, and have made notations on most of my information, of how it was already available from the series, so that it is not considered spoiler material. Nonetheless, if you haven’t seen it, view it, and then read my opinion, and see what you think first.***Below might contain references to the movie, but they are not anywhere close to spoilers. Just the same, wanted to give fair warning

The storyline is that the Borg invade the Federation, and attack Earth. They go back in time, to perform a mission. (This much was stated on the back of the cover, so no spoilers there.) I often wondered, back when TNG was on the air, if the Borg would try and do this during the series. It was very plausible, because we know the power of the Borg, and we know that we would be no match for them. The only thing that could have given us an advantage, would have been Captain Picard, due to his experience with being assimilated during the series. Also, we already knew that time travel was possible, and that the Borg were experimenting with it. So, that does not leave us with any jumps in logic

The movie was well written, acted, and directed. First off, tip of the hats to the costume and set designers. I LOVED the new uniforms, and thought that they were certainly much better looking than standard red, yellow, and blue ones from the show. Also, the new ship looked very realistic (again, we knew the Enterprise D was destroyed, so it only made sense to have a new ship built, and included in the movie). The actors put a lot of hard work into it, and it shows. I especially want to say good job to Brent Spiner, as he did an excellent job on data, acting the part, which you will understand once you watch the movie. Also, worth mentioning was the actor that played Zephram Cochran (I can’t remember the name off of the top of my head). He performed well, made the character seem very realistic for the personality portrayed. Another comment on the characters would have to be about ‘Lily’. I feel that the first part of the character, when she has the little fainting spell, was scripted and acted very well, but the script has her dealing with her ’situation’, a lot better than she should have. Even a strong character would have been a bit more reluctant to do what she did. I think that she took it a bit too well, but that is certainly not a major thing, and it’s only my opinion

I would like to also say that the special effects were pretty good, especially for the resources that they used.***Random Knowledge Tidbit: The green plate used on assimilation tables in all of the Borg ships during TNG, were actually store-bought electric lamps. They were the same as the ones that you can buy in the store, that are sensitive to touch, sound, etc. These are the ones that pulse out electricity, similar to the electric balls that have flowing strands of electricity touching the globe, but on a flat plate instead.

    “National Treasure” Plot Summary

A treasure hunter is in hot pursuit of a mythical treasure that has been passed down for centuries, while his employer turned enemy is onto the same path that he’s on.

Good and exciting movie, you’re on the edge of your seat

At first, I was thinking hmmmm Nicolas Cage is in it and I’ve always loved his work but then again it’s a Disney and there are better ways to kill time in the evening than watching a Disney movie. But I said, what the hell ,I’ll check it out. And I was pleasantly surprised. The movie gets you to the edge of your seat and you really want to know what will be happening next. I’m a fan of Indiana Jones, and I’v seen some comments here who say that the movies look a like. Well , can’t argue with that, it’s a movie about finding clues on the way to the greatest treasure of all times. And it really is a fun ride …! Especially , of course, Cage acts great. I can’t find anything bad about this movie. It’s not movie of the year or something, it’s just good entertainment 7/10 ! PS: don’t let the Disney scare you of ( at least for this movie ;) )!

    One of Sandler’s funniest

Adam Sandler really began to peak in the 1990’s after he hit it big on SNL. He quickly was pushed into Going Overboard in 1989, which wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either. Then he began to receive more work throughout then while people seemed to have a feel for him and he became well known, sort of how Seth Rogen is coming into his own now. Sandler really is well known for just playing a normal guy with such a short fuse that ends up getting into a major crisis. If you don’t believe me then watch this movie. It can be touching at moments and tear jerking for some of you out there, but for the most part this is a Sandler comedy that you don’t want to pass by.

    “Stargate” Movie Review

    “Stargate” Plot Summary

An interstellar teleportation device, found in Egypt, leads to a planet with humans resembling ancient Egyptians who worship the god Ra. add synopsis

    Greatly made movie!

This is the sort of movie that shouldn’t had really worked out but yet it did. Everything about this movie screams B-movie. Just look at the title, read the script, see the characters, the cast, etcetera. Yet ‘Stargate’ works out tremendously fine as great and above all fine entertainment. It’s for most part due to the fine directing skills of Roland Emmerich, show really knows to uplifts this movie and its story. This movie also really marked the big breakthrough for Roland Emmerich. Yes, it’s true that his real breakthrough movie was ‘Moon 44′ and even though that movie was by no means a great one, it still showed that the director had lots of potential and took the maximum out of the movie. So, ‘Moon 44′ got him Hollywood’s attention but with ‘Stargate’ he for the first time really proofs that he can handle a multi-million dollar production as well and successfully, since ‘Universal Soldier’ was only a successful movie in certain circles. If it weren’t for ‘Stargate’, then now way we would had had movies such as ‘Independence Day’, ‘The Patriot’ and ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. Some people wouldn’t had minded that by the way

Even though the story itself is not that much special, it still has a great and original as well as an intriguing concept, that somehow knows to connect an alien world to ancient Egypt and their Gods. It’s a great science-fiction story without ever really getting too ’science-fiction’ like. It’s uses lots of great and imaginative elements

Once you start really thinking about it, there isn’t an awful lot happening in this movie, mostly action wise. Yet it’s a very entertaining movie to watch, which is due to the fact that it’s made with lots of pace and because of it’s greatly and perfectly adventurous concept of traveling to a far off planet. It’s a movie that never bores and is a perfectly fun one to watch actually. The movie gets also really uplifted by its David Arnold musical score

The movie is fair enough looking. For 1994 standards the special effects are good, especially for the masks worn by the ‘Gods’. But because the movie is for most part set in a dessert like environment it’s not really one that jumps out in its looks and actually also really doesn’t looks and feels like a multi-million dollar production, even though it is. The movie actually looks and feels more cheap, which is also one of the reasons why this movie has already become a sort of a cult-classic

The movie is greatly cast with James Spader and Kurt Russell in the lead roles. But man, did James Spader look still so much different and younger back then. He’s just not the kind of person that aged well. He went from a boyish look in 1994 to an old dirty wrinkly man look now days, even though he’ll turn only just 48 next month. Also greatly cast was Jaye Davidson as Ra. He’s a true memorable villain and it makes you realize what a great shame it is that Jaye Davidson has never acted in many movies, simply just because he never really enjoyed acting much, despite having also received an Oscar nomination for his debut role in ‘The Crying Game’.Truly a recommendable science-fiction classic from the ’90’s.8/10

“Star Trek X: Nemesis” Plot Summary

After the Enterprise is diverted to the Romulan planet of Romulus, supposedly because they want to negotiate a truce, the Federation soon find out the Romulans are planning an attack on Earth.

    Great movie!!

I’m going to keep this short ‘cos I think everything’s been said, but I just wanna say that, in my opinion, people are far too harsh on this movie

I’ve been a Star Trek fan since the late 80’s when I was a kid, and this movie didn’t disappoint. People need to lighten up! Also, everyone seems to blame the director, and I admit, I don’t agree with the choice of scenes that he cut from the movie – The film would’ve been better if the scenes had been left alone, but if someone doesn’t like the script or story, then shouldn’t it be the writers to blame and NOT the director (Stuart Baird)? OK, Nemesis failed at the box office, but that doesn’t make it a bad film, just nobody wanted to see it. How would they know how good or bad something really is without seeing it for themselves? I think audiences just got tired of Star trek in general, and unfortunately, this meant that Nemesis (and Star Trek: Enterprise)had to suffer. Not to mention that it opened at the same time as some SERIOUS competition at the time. Lord of the rings – Harry Potter

The only thing that I do agree with is that this wasn’t the best film to end ‘The Next Gen’ series of films. I think they deserved two or at least one more to wrap things up properly. But I guess that’ll never happen! On a whole, I loved Nemesis (better than Insurrection, even though I like that too) and would give it 10 out of 10 anytime!

    “TMNT” Movie Review

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV” Plot Summary

The continued adventures of the four adolescent mutated turtles gifted in the art of the ninja, as they attempt to stop a mysterious evil that threatens to end the world.

An excellent and enjoyable treat for all Turtles fans!

I saw this last night at a preview in my local Odeon. I am a big fan of the Turtles and have been since my childhood. I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect from this movie but I was very impressed

The characters have all had a terrific makeover which is displayed with some of the best on screen animation that I have seen in a long time. The film itself is a bit vivid but all the same very enjoyable

All the chosen voice overs and presentations for each character seem very well suited, although my only criticism is against April O Neils character. She has gone from a geeky news reporter to tough as nails ninja it would appear, but we are not told exactly how far into the future this movie is from the Turtles timescale so I accept that the scriptwriters have progressed things and the characters have moved forward.**Spoiler Alert** One thing in particular is Leonardo , he looks very, very well done indeed. One scene in particular is the rooftop fight scene between him and Raphael which looks visually stunning and is way above anything I have seen in the animation world

The fight scenes/violence are a lot tougher than what you would expect from a Turtles feature. Some hard hitting ‘ninja’ violence is displayed throughout the movie and combined with the scary monsters is well worth it’s PG certificate. All in good taste though

Overall a very enjoyable and visual treat for the kids and grown ups which does justice for the whole TMNT history.
