“Eragon” Plot Summary

In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy happens upon a dragon’s egg — a discovery that leads him on a predestined journey where he realized he’s the one person who can defend his home against an evil king. add synopsis

Great film

Whatever normandbutter may say, this movie is wonderful. Everybody is beautifully cast, and they are all believable. Ed Speleers gives a wonderful performance for his first time acting, and it is another great performance from Jeremy Irons. Those who don’t like it shouldn’t be on this website, because if you don’t like something then there’s no reason to go to a web page dedicated to it. See this movie, it is beautifully done and if you buy the two disk special edition, watch all of the second disk, it will give you a greater appreciation for it. I own the two disk special edition, and after watching everything from the movie to how they made Saphira fly, I wanted to watch it again and again.

    “Con Air” Movie Review

    “Con Air” Plot Summary

A newly released ex-con and former US Ranger finds himself trapped in a prisoner transport plane when the passengers seize control.

    Amazing action flick

This film goes beyond the usual boundaries of an action film. The ensemble cast is brilliant. Nicholas Cage and John Cusack play the ex army ranger turned paroled prisoner and FIB agent respectively who have to find a way of working together when psycho Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Grissom takes over a plane of prisoners who are being transferred to a maximum security unit. Cyrus is played brilliantly by the menacing John Malkovich, and he makes the character appear truly evil, down to his cold eyes. This is the sort of role he excels at

There is also an appearance by Steve Buscemi as the Marietta Mangler, a serial killer who first appears in the film strapped to a chair with a mask, a la Hannibal Lecter

Nicholas Cage is also good as a very honourable guy who just wants to get home to his wife and child, but not at the expense of his fellow prisoners

This film is worth watching many times – its entertaining, sometimes funny and altogether brilliant!

    “Beowulf” Movie Review

    “Beowulf” Plot Summary

The warrior Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel’s mother, who begins killing out of revenge.

    Good but weird

It is a very strange sensation to watch a film where the cast comprises largely imitations of the people in the cast: watching Anthony Hopkins occupy a replica of himself is profoundly weird. The experience then becomes even weirder when the character inhabited by the larger than life persona of Ray Winstone isn’t Winstone! (despite his avowed intention of doing away with monstahs!) One also has to overcome the expectation that a cartoon film (if one can refer to a wholly CGI film as such) is aimed predominantly at the younger viewer: Beowulf contains some quite savage violence, not to mention some earthy humour, and is definitely not for youngsters.

It is a worthwhile effort, though. Taking some liberties with the ancient epic poem, it tells an exciting story, and always looks good. The cast are all excellent (even if, as noted above, they are somewhat distracting), and it is worth singling out Crispin Glover for his stunning performance as Grendel – he makes a barbaric murdering monster something deserving of sympathy.

I can’t comment on the 3D as I saw a flat copy, but I can imagine that it would have been very effective.

An interesting experiment, and one which was successful in artistic terms, even if perhaps not in commercial terms.

    “Mutant Chronicles” Movie Review

    “Mutant Chronicles” Plot Summary

28th century soldier Mitch Hunter leads a fight against an army of underworld Mutants.

Actually, a pretty good, original movie

I will usually watch any movie with Ron Perlman in it. His characters are generally bad with a sense of humor and his good characters are extremely well played. Also, I like John Malkovich because regardless of his part or the movie, he always puts on a great performance

I am a big fan of horror and Sci-fi. I have read what others had to say, but I thought it was actually very good. What I find original is that a seal was put on this ‘enemy’ and was unsealed due to war among corporations instead of nations. This seal was broken and unites the corporations, which is not original, but the part where the seal is broken and these mutant humans come out is a bit original

All the people in it really put on great performances and I think that should count for something. The FX were not bad at all and the story flowed great. If people did not like the movie, I am sure they have their reasons, but I can’t believe it was because of the acting or how the story flowed

I thought it was a very upfront movie and explained itself. The one thing that I did not quite understand is who the ‘enemy’ was, where they came. The movie tries to explain this in the beginning, but it did not explain it in a way that was sufficient enough to wonder if they came from the sky, why didn’t more come after they were sealed. If it was a dying planet that came to Earth and started this, then it would be understandable. John Malkovich says that ‘they’ will move to other planets and I felt that left the audience hanging. However, it could have been explained to but I missed it

It is a lot like ‘Silence of the Lambs’ in that you have to watch it a second time and they you find out more info. Every time I see SOTL, I always saw something that I missed the first time I saw it

I liked the way they mixed war, humanity, faith all together. It made for a good entertaining movie. Some parts were predictable, but still a good movie and I would recommend it to anyone who is a horror/Sci-fi fan.

“Where the Wild Things Are” Movie Review

“Where the Wild Things Are” Plot Summary

An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world–a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.

    Great Movie

I went to go see this movie opening night! It was a great decision. I am currently in grade 12 and even though the movie was marketed for a young age group, my friends and I decided to see it never the less

We got to the movie theatre and the first thing I noticed was how many people of my age group 17-20 were in the theatre, dominating the amount of little children by far

As the movie progressed i noticed that some parents and children left however the ones that were left over looked completely bored. This movie was not meant for children

My friends and I thought it was AMAZING, even though the plot was changed and not exact to the book I grew up with i thought it was very well done. I think that anyone who is older and more mature and remembers the book from their childhood should definitely see the movie, the graphics are amazing!!! Definitely would see it again :)

“The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc” Movie Review

    “Joan of Arc” Plot Summary

A young girl receives a vision that drives her to rid France of its oppressors. add synopsis

    A fine film

By no means a perfect film but you have to give it a lot of credit for trying to do something different with the material. I love the visual mystery of it all and the at times abstract images. For some reason it feels like there may have been a lot left out during the editing process, but a lot of these types of films have that feeling. Milla Jovovich hit a career high in The Messenger that she has never really lived up to since. What is brave about this film is that fact that it takes such a famous historical figure and does not try to deify her or make her a larger than life hero. She questions herself at every corner. She is confused half the time. Joan of arc in this film never seems to be sure of herself and is not above changing her mind at the last second like in the scene of the retracted confession. Granted, narratively this film can be a bit muddled, but as texture and atmosphere, it is hard to beat. Luc Besson has a sly wit that seems out of place here, for example the scene where an English guard asks ‘What is she doing’ cut to the French fighters ‘I don’t know!’ The score for the Messenger is very unique, with a combination of abstract synthesized sounds and large scale orchestra and choir reminiscent of a biblical epic. I must be honest in saying that I did not entirely like this film when I first saw it in the theater, but it stuck with me, so I went back for a repeat viewing and found I liked it a lot better than I thought. This is a very unique, although not entirely successful take on a very old story.

    “Changeling” Plot Summary

A grief-stricken mother takes on the LAPD to her own detriment when it stubbornly tries to pass off an obvious impostor as her missing child, while also refusing to give up hope that she will find him one day.

    Very, Very, Good Movie.

You must go see this movie. YOU MUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!! I’ll admit I didn’t know what to expect when my wife asked me to go to this movie. And of course having Jolie in it she didn’t have to twist my arm to much. We had to go out of town to see it because our local theater wasn’t showing it. The acting by Jolie was great. Eastwood’s direction was great. And the 20’s and 30’s look to the movie was so realistic. I learned some things about this time frame by watching this movie. So not only did I enjoy the movie I learned a little bit along the way. This is a Rated R movie so I wouldn’t take kids to it because there are a couple disturbing moments in the movie. If this movie doesn’t get some Oscar nominations I will be very surprised. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

“In the Line of Fire” Plot Summary

Secret Service agent Frank Horrigan couldn’t save Kennedy, but he’s determined not to let a clever assassin take out this president. add synopsis

    It’s a classic!

One of the finest movies I have viewed…Good script, original plot of a man who is haunted about JFK’s assassination when he was assigned to protect him on that Cold November day in 1963. Thirty years later another anti-social lunatic wants to assassinate the current president. The secret service agent loses his partner along the way,to the crazed gunmen who schemes, lies and murders anybody in his path who’ll stand in his way of his mission. The movie accompanies with a great memorable score, and a restrained but meaningful romance between Russo and Eastwood….which displays how difficult it is to have a romantic life in that kind of work. Malchovich is great, sure many other candidates could have played the role that he played, but how many could acted with such craftiness, and intellect that he displayed in the movie?Needless to say,I thought this was a great movie…everytime it’s on television I have to watch it..and I own it on dvd! I’m a big Eastwood fan, this only boosted his already fabulous career, and Malchovich’s best role to date!
