    “S1m0ne” Movie Review

    “Simone” Plot Summary

A producer’s film is endangered when his star walks off, so he decides to digitally create an actress to substitute for the star, becoming an overnight sensation that everyone thinks is a real person.

    Brilliant Movie

I avoided this movie because the last comedy I saw Al Pacino in was ‘Scent of a Woman’ and despite his academy award performance, I didn’t enjoy the film. I was expecting this film to be one of those sad, embarrassing September-May romance movies where an aging 60-ish actor seduces a beautiful woman half or one-third his age

I was immediately surprised that this film was totally different. It was laugh-out-loud funny and wonderfully weird. lt is not a romantic comedy, but a great satire on technology and fame. The woman that Pacino does romance is at least 45, so that aspect of the movie was handled with reasonableness and sensitivity

In my opinion the film is also a satire on Christianity. Here, just as there, a made-up character becomes such a big star that masses of people believes more in that fictional person’s existence than their own

    Don’t miss it.

    “Street Kings” Movie Review

    “Street Kings” Plot Summary

Tom Ludlow is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he’s been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him.

    Solid action pic

Okay, let’s face it. The credibility factor in almost ALL action flicks is questionable at best. If you really took the time to analyze the logic behind the story, you’d come up short. But, by definition, action pics are just that — heavy on the action, and not so heavy on the logic that supports the story. With this in mind, Street Kings is a solid, well-executed action flick that has all the right ingredients: a non-conformist hero you WANT to root for; a never-let-up story that keeps you riveted to the end; and a stylish, fast-paced visual smorgasbord that delivers from start to finish

Yes, the story falls short — you’ll find yourself asking questions like ‘Why did the undercover cops that Tom Ludlow (Keanu) kill want to eliminate Detective Washington if they weren’t part of Det. Wander’s crew to begin with?’ Yeah, it does get a little dicey if you think it through — but if you DON’T bother getting bogged down in the minutia, it works. Contrary to much of the published critique of the movie, I think Keanu brings exactly what is needed to the role — he’s vulnerable, jaded, broken… and invincible. What more could you want in a solid action pic??

    Excellence in Filmmaking

This movie had me laughing; crying; smiling; staring; anticipating; everything. When I viewed the voter history for this movie, I couldn’t believe the rating it had received after 13,400 registered users had voted. This movie was excellent from the direction to the production sets. The acting was superb by all but could not and would not have been as great if it had not been for the vision of the director. I gave this movie a ten because it deserves it everywhere. The scenes, the sequences, the editing were all great. Though I’m not involved in the movie industry yet, I try to observe details in a production that make a good, bad, or great movie. In this case everything fell into place. The music for certain scenes was perfect. The characters were extremely believable. Everyone in the lead and supporting roles deserve an award of some type. I’m a 49 year old male with two grown kids and two grandchildren but I’m not ashamed to say I was filled with emotion as I watched this film. I believe a film should consume the viewer- to me that’s great filmmaking. If I can leave my seat or carry on a conversation while watching a film, it’s not great- it might be good, but not great. Jerry Maguire had my undivided attention. Kudos to everyone involved in the production of this movie. I waited four years to see this movie which I finally purchased on VHS cassette two or three months ago. It was a worthy investment and I will soon purchase it on DVD. Excellent, excellent, excellent!!!
