“State of Play” Movie Review

“State of Play” Plot Summary

A team of investigative reporters work alongside a police detective to try to solve the murder of a congressman’s mistress.

Good Political Thriller

This movie is worth seeing just to watch great actors like Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren, & Rachel McAdams practice their craft. Add in a very good plot and a well written script and what you end up with is an excellent movie

I’d read that Brad Pitt was originally supposed to have the starring role of the veteran newspaper reporter played by Crowe but declined the role at the last minute due to artistic differences with the Director over the script. Not sure of the details, but the movie certainly didn’t suffer from Pitt’s absence. Crowe was great as the lead. Some critics carp over his funny ‘American’ accent, but I thought he was very good in the lead role

Rachel McAdams was very good as the cub reporter. I’m not sure if she’s the next Julia Roberts (as some opine) but she certainly is the ‘it’ girl and fills the bill nicely

Helen Mirren was excellent as the imperious publisher/editor of the newspaper

Ben Affleck was good as the politician at the center of the storm

As political thrillers go, this was pretty good. I’d say go check it out, grab a bucket of popcorn and soda, and enjoy.

“Talladega Nights” Plot Summary

#1 NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby stays atop the heap thanks to a pact with his best friend and teammate, Cal Naughton, Jr. But when a French Formula One driver, makes his way up the ladder, Ricky Bobby’s talent and devotion are put to the test.

Will Ferrell at his best.

Will Ferrell at his best

Seriously Here, Ferrell plays a good ole country boy with rocks for brains and only one worry in the world and that’s winning. Sound like a familiar past TV character of his? Ferrell is also a Writer on this film with Director Adam McKay, who together have made a solid comedy team since those SNL days, including 2004’s ‘Anchor Man.’ But standing just as tall in this picture is the surprising man-about-town, Mr. Sasha Cohen (Borat, Ali G, Bruno) as Ricky Bobby’s French nemesis, Jean Girard. This guy is such a great character actor it was difficult to even spot him at first. But who else would be brave enough to kiss Ferrell on the lips?www.manwithavan.blogspot.com

“Transporter 2″ Plot Summary

Mercenary Frank Martin, who specializes moving goods of all kinds, surfaces again this time in Miami, Florida when he’s implicated in the kidnapping of the young son of a powerful USA official. add synopsis

Good fun and well worth watching

It is unusual for a sequel to be better than the first film but this film is way better than the first one if action is what you like. It is very James Bond in places and the Martial Arts are really quite good. Throw in a little humour and there you have it, Transporter 2 This is a lads film, a night in with a few beers and some crisps ( chips if you are American and reading this ) or Peanuts. The girl villain is very good and could have been used a bit more as the main male villain lead was a bit weak. Jason Statham is proving himself a good lead for these type of action films and I am sure we will see more of him in similar films in the future.

“Friday the 13th” Movie Review

“Friday the 13th” Plot Summary

A group of young adults discover a boarded up Camp Crystal Lake, where they soon encounter Jason Voorhees and his deadly intentions.

Fun if you’re of GWB intelligence

History (that is, movie history) tends to pre-colour one’s thinking and so the original Friday the 13th movies must precondition viewers for what’s to come in this, the latest offering for those with a propensity for bizarre murder stories

However, don’t today’s filmgoers deserve SOME credit for intelligence? Like, don’t we expect supposedly young adults with (supposedly) some education to behave a bit logically? Given that there’s a killer running amok in the neighborhood, wouldn’t it be sensible to plan some sort of strategy to beat him? But no. Our protagonists split up and race around the woods with the women screaming a lot of the time and the guys displaying gross incompetence. Interesting too that those ear-drum shattering screams, which, on an otherwise peaceful country night, would be easily heard at least two miles away, don’t seem to be heard by anyone when it’s most crucial. Ho Hum!Then, when one of the group eventually puts in an emergency call to the police telling them that there’s a mass killer slaying everyone in sight, the cops send ONE man! This is, in actual fact, in direct contrast to all those other American movies where the police send about two hundred armed swat-team members, several helicopters and umpteen squad cars all with sirens screaming to rescue a cat up a tree! Oh no! Not here! ONE cop – and a not too bright one at that! Then, as the climax approaches, with one of the protagonists at last armed with a gun, instead of using common sense and waiting for the killer to come into the line of fire and letting him have it with a single shot, our hero empties the magazine on closed doors and shadows and then goes racing out to his death at the hands of a far more calculating creature than himself or his companions

Nevertheless, if you like suspense with a bit of sexy action (not to mention some superb female bodies!!!) I guess you might get a little pleasure from the latest (but obviously not the final) Crystal Lake saga!

    “Thelma & Louise” Plot Summary

An Arkansas waitress and a housewife shoot a rapist and take off in a ‘66 Thunderbird.

    Excellent, painful and beautiful

I’ll always love this film… It’s one of my favorites. It touches you, it move you and makes you want to scream and shout, cry and laugh. Ridley Scott is a great director, and it was this film that really made me love him. It’s so good. The filming is great, the art direction is appropriate and the soundtrack is amazing. It’s a film about happiness, and how we can be kept away from it. And how women are supposed to just shut up and take whatever they are put through. It teaches you to never give up your dreams, live by your own example and take your life in your hands. We can’t just sit around watching life pass by. And when you get the chance – take it. And never apologize for being you

See this film, just see it! It’s rather old, I was only 3 when it came out and I didn’t see it until it was a few years old. But this kind of movie never dies..Live your life and LOVE it!

    “The Grudge” Plot Summary

An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.

    pretty good

so, being a fairly deep fan of horror movies, it’s been a while since i’ve seen one that really made me jump (or fidget nervously.)definitely going to get this on DVD when it comes out… a hell of a lot better than the ring. the thing that i don’t get is that so many people that we talkd with after the movie thought that it was horrible, well, if that’s what you think, then so be it… i know what i liked and it takes a fair amount to get me to actually feel scared, so i have to say that this one is worth watching.now, you might be disappointed in the story if you need everything in a neat and tidy line, because the plot goes back an forth a little bit to help build the story (i think that if it was shown in chronological order, it would have ruined the whole thing.)i’m actually glad that this movie had very little bloody messes in it… maybe the rest of you studio writers and whathaveyous will realize that you don’t have to splash the red stuff all over the set to make people afraid.

    “Twister” Movie Review

    “Twister” Plot Summary

A couple on the point of divorce keep meeting each other because both are researchers who chase tornadoes.

    Great Movie.

First off, I love this movie. I first saw it during the 2004 Hurricane Season. We were staying by ourselves in an empty church because Hurricane Charlie was set to bulls-eye our town. Instead of watching the Shining and giving in to the creeping feelings of cabin fever, though, I popped the movie into the VCR for the projector screen in the student room, and watched Twister, the sounds of the movie mixing with the sounds of the storm outside

Also, another reason to like this movie: Thunderstorms rock. I was never one of those kids growing up who would cower under the bed when a T-Storm hit: Florida is, after all, the lightning capital of the world. Heck, we’d open up the window shades and enjoy the show. I also have a Grandma who would pamper us grandkids just like Aunt Mae. For me, there’s a lot of nostalgia riding on this film for me, and I won’t have any elitist snobs ruin it for me

Honestly, if you’re going to watch Twister, watch it on a rainy day. A really rainy day. Makes all the difference.

    It really worked for me

Couples Retreat is a comedy centered around four couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others fail to realize that participation in the resort’s therapy sessions is not optional. Couples Retreat is like a romantic comedy but without all the romantic stuff, well maybe a little bit of romance at the end but that’s it. It has many funny moments. The locations are wonderful all the landscapes are fantastic. The cast is really good, Vince Vaughn still got the necessary to make people laugh, Jon Favreau is also very funny in this movie. Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis and Malin Akerman all three with very decent performances and the one that steals the show is Latin actor Carlos Ponce with his performance of yoga instructor, he was hilarious. To conclude, Couples Retreat is a movie with the only purpose of entertaining, and I think it accomplishes it very nice.

    Must Watch

This movie has to be one of my all time favorites. John Travolta was an absolute champion in this movie and had me in tears laughing

For those who don’t know, wild hogs is a movie about a bunch of nerds or wimps who went to high school together and decide to go out on a road trip

“Sex and the City” Plot Summary

A New York writer on sex and love is finally getting married to her Mr. Big. But her three best girlfriends must console her after one of them inadvertently leads Mr. Big to jilt her. add synopsis

    Love and the City

Mr. Big (Chris Noth) and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) buy a magnificent penthouse in Manhattan and they decide to get married. Enid Frick (Candice Bergen) invites Carrie to take pictures for a special edition of Vogue about marriage of women of forty and something years. During the preparation, Carrie raises the guest list from seventy-five to two hundred guests, and a simple wedding dress to a fashionable Vivienne Westwood, intimidating Mr. Big in his third wedding. Meanwhile Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has no sex with Steve (David Eigenberg) and he confesses that he had had one night stand with a woman. On the eve of the wedding, in the rehearsal dinner, the upset Miranda tells Mr. Big that marriage ruins everything. On the next day, the scared Mr. Big calls off the wedding leaving Carrie in the church. Carrie feels humiliated and depressed and Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) decide to travel to Mexico with Carrie to the hotel where she was supposed to spend her honeymoon. When Carries returns, she hires the assistant Louise (Jennifer Hudson) to help her to organize her life. When Miranda discloses what she told to Mr. Big to Carrie in the rehearsal dinner, their friendship is shaken

The disappointing ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’ is a pale shadow of the wonderful TV series. The wittiness of the shows is completely lost in a shallow and too long story full of merchandising; most of the situations are naive and silly for characters of forty and something years old; and the conclusion is corny, but I liked the celebration among friends in a simple restaurant. I found contradictory that a movie explores love while a TV show uses sex as the central theme. What Miranda could expect after six months without sex with her husband? The new color of the hair of Sarah Jessica Parker fits very well to her type and the fabulous Kim Cattrall is still a very beautiful woman in spite of crossing the age of fifty years old. Miranda and Steve together on the Brooklyn Bridge may be corny, but I found it one of the best moments of the movie. The behavior of Samantha is sexually too contained, and I indeed expected more eroticism of this character in a feature. My vote is five
