“True Romance” Movie Review

“True Romance” Plot Summary

Clarence marries hooker Alabama, steals cocaine from her pimp, and tries to sell it in Hollywood, while the owners of the coke try to reclaim it. add synopsis

This really is the ultimate Quentin Tarantino movie.

True Romance. Tarantino’s first, and ironically enough most original, movie. Though directed by Tony Scott (Top Gun, Enemy of the State) the film remains very faithful to Tarantino’s original conception. With the exception of the ending and the trademark Tarantino non-linear storytelling being taken out. There are oh so many things in this movie that Tarantino’s later works reference to that it’s like a Tarantino fan boy treat! Which I am not anymore. But during my one year time as a fan boy I did read the script of this movie and this was before I even saw the movie. So this being so very faithful to the script you can imagine how psyched i was seeing this movie. I was not disappointed

The movie starts off in not so sunny Detroit with our anti-hero Clarence. Clarence lives a very lonely life with comic books, Kung Fu movies and Elvis as his greatest passions. But one day a woman named Alabama comes into his life. They fall in love instantly and armed with a 38 caliber revolver, a suitcase full of cocaine and most of all love, they set off to sunny Hollywood to try to sell it off and live happily ever after

Many people brand this movie as a narcissistic teenage boy’s wet dream. Well it’s not. This is supposed to be a fairy tale and it so is. I mean he’s a film geek and she’s a hot girl. Well it turns out this hot girl likes movies and comics to so they get married. That’s every man’s dream. Tarantino didn’t set out to make a fairy tale when he wrote it but the changes that Tony Scott made (as small as they were) really changed the theme of the movie and made it lighter and more like a fairy tale. Personally I would have really liked to see what the movie would have been like if Tarantino had directed it

This is one of those movies which has a wonderful cast. First there’s Christian Slater (….well…True Romance) who plays the character of Clarence very good. Had this been directed by Tarantino in the early nineties the part would have been played by Tarantino himself. Slater plays it with a certain style and this really is his best film ever. I wonder why he doesn’t get better parts in movies. Then there’s Dennis Hopper (Land of the Dead, Speed) who plays his father in a couple of scenes. The whole movie is worth watching just for him. Gary Oldman (Leon, Lost in Space) plays a very cool role as Drexl the pimp. Good old Gary. Christopher Walken has a small role and plays it very calm and cool. Michael Rapaport, (Friends) who we all know from Friends and Deep Blue Sea, Plays struggling actor Dick Richie and gives a solid performance. And last but most certainly not least there’s Chris Penn (rest in peace) as Detective Nicky Dimes. He plays the part with such coolness and style and the film would not be what it is if he weren’t in it.’People have asked me: ‘So would you ever do a romance movie?’ like that’s not what I would do. ‘Well, I did a romantic movie, True Romance.’ ‘No, no, I mean like a real romantic movie.’ ‘Well that is a real romantic movie.’ ‘No, like one without violence?’ ‘Well there’ll be a lot of things in any movie I do that will be contradictory, but anybody who’s a fan of the movie can tell you, the title – True Romance – is not ironic…this is true romance.” – Quentin Tarantino.

“Where the Wild Things Are” Movie Review

“Where the Wild Things Are” Plot Summary

An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world–a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.

Great Movie

I went to go see this movie opening night! It was a great decision. I am currently in grade 12 and even though the movie was marketed for a young age group, my friends and I decided to see it never the less

We got to the movie theatre and the first thing I noticed was how many people of my age group 17-20 were in the theatre, dominating the amount of little children by far

As the movie progressed i noticed that some parents and children left however the ones that were left over looked completely bored. This movie was not meant for children

My friends and I thought it was AMAZING, even though the plot was changed and not exact to the book I grew up with i thought it was very well done. I think that anyone who is older and more mature and remembers the book from their childhood should definitely see the movie, the graphics are amazing!!! Definitely would see it again :)

    “8MM” Movie Review

    “8 Millimeter” Plot Summary

A private investigator is hired to discover if a “snuff film” is authentic or not.

One of best movies I have seen

8MM is one of best movies I have seen. Nicolas Cage plays his role very good, which I expected having seen ‘Lord or War ‘recently. The plot is interesting and so are the dialogs between characters. There are quite a few tense moments in the movie which is probably why I liked this movie that much

Again trough it is only a movie as someone may say it shows you a bit of the reality out there- the one which people don’t want to admit that it exists. The movie is basically a mystery with some action elements. My opinion is that its rating on IMDb should be much higher but well I guess not everyone likes movies like this one trough I wonder why since there are many other movies that are much harder to watch than this one

One of the best things about 8 MM is its soundtrack honestly it is rare to find such a carefully chosen music to go with the scenes.

    “The Mexican” Movie Review

    “The Mexican” Plot Summary

A man tries to transport an ancient gun called The Mexican, believed to carry a curse, back across the border, while his girlfriend pressures him to give up his criminal ways.

    A film of entertainment.

Jerry Welbach (Brad Pitt) has just received two ultimatum: the first of its head, a mafia that instructs it to travel to Mexico to restore an old and valuable gun so-called ‘The Mexican’, and the second of his girlfriend, Samantha, (Julia Roberts) requiring him to put an end to its relationship with the mafia. Jerry thinks that the more attractive alternative is to stay alive – even if you have problems with Samantha- and decides directed toward the south. Find the gun is easy, but bring back is a matter more complicated. It is assumed that is a carrier of a curse legendary, since it was commissioned by a rich landlord as a gift of wedding to a daughter who eventually died in tragic circumstances. A curse that Jerry has reason to believe, especially when a killer hostage-taking Samantha to assure the delivery of the pistol to mafia capo. It is a movie that has received poor criticism in general, but I believe that are made from the perspective of expect such large stars a result commensurate with its fame. If not we take into account the latter, the film is simply entertaining, quick, with good blows of humor, good photography and some dialogs interesting. The environments of the scenarios i have liked, but the characters Mexicans have little action . I noticed that only at the end of the film appear a few drawings of the two main actors together.

“The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″ Movie Review

“The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″ Plot Summary

Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garber into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime.

    An Awesome Film!!!

Today, I had a double feature at my theatre and saw this along with Land of the Lost! The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is an awesome action film filled to the brim with suspense and great actors, great storyline, and a great movie altogether. A man by the name of Ryder and some armed men hijack a subway train and take hostages. Ryder communicates with an MTA dispatcher named Walter Garber who tries to reason with him. If the city does not pay Ryder 10 million dollars within the hour, he will kill a hostage. I have not yet seen the original film from the 70’s, so I can’t compare the two. I highly recommend THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3!!!
