“The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury” Movie Review

“The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury” Plot Summary

This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors of Pitch Black already caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread… add synopsis

Great mini-movie, much better than the sequel

To anyone who has seen the excellent ‘The Matrix’ and its horrible sequels, this animated movie ‘Dark Fury’ is exactly the same as the ‘Last Flight Of The Osiris’ (short animation) for ‘The Matrix’.So, we have a great movie (‘Pitch Black’), and a very weak sequel (The Chronicles Of Riddick). But this little animated gem brings back our anti-hero in familiar territory: a great story (even though it’s short) and some great sci-fi ideas (the frozen ‘collection’ and the cyborg monster, for example).

If you liked Pitch Black it’s guaranteed you will like this one. It can also stand on its own (no need to see anything else, although you would get curious), which is always a good indication of brilliance.

“The Box” Movie Review

“The Box” Plot Summary

A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don’t know.

Would you press the button??

You have to see the whole movie to understand it, and get the concept that the movie is trying to convey to the viewer. To me I think it is an excellent movie. The movie would send primary questions like: Would you take the appealing move even if you have to kill somebody on the way?, or Would you take the next exit without taking in consideration that you will result in the fatal accident in the rear view mirror? The only bad thing in this movie is the unnecessary stretching of the story, which is attributed to the short story it is based on. The movie deserves a 7-7.5 points, but I had to use a 10 point vote because of the unfair judgment in some of the comments I have reviewed. So, Would you press the button??

    “Underworld” Movie Review

    “Underworld” Plot Summary

Selene, a beautiful vampire warrior, is entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf races. Although she is aligned with the vampires, she falls in love with Michael, a werewolf who longs for the war to end.

Underworld A Decent Gothic Sci-Fi Action Adventure

Underworld is a decent Gothic sci-fi action adventure from director Len Wiseman who does a good job in making this movie but there are some flaws that weigh it down. I’ll get back to that later. Kate Beckinsale turns in a solid performance as the lead Selene a vampire Death Dealer in the middle of a war between her race and werewolves known as Lycans. She looks great in leather and is convincing as the character especially in the action/fight sequences. Scott Speedman is decent as Michael Corvin who eventually becomes a powerful vampire/werewolf hybrid because something to do with his blood. He gets a few fight sequences near the end that are impressive but for the most of the movie he’s either being chased, running, or being held prisoner. Speedman however like Beckinsale is good as his character. Michael Sheen is terrific as Lucian the Lycan leader whose supposed to have been dead and is after Michael for unknown reasons until those motives are revealed later on in the film. Sheen’s role may get cut short near the end but he does a great job of portraying someone who you’re not sure is either the villain or a man simply driven by revenge who is willing to do whatever is necessary to defend his race. Well done. Bill Nighy is equally impressive as one of the vampire Lord’s Viktor but he isn’t given a lot of screen time and his showdown between both Michael and Selene near the end felt a bit rushed. He’s also easily defeated but Nighy is effective in the role none the less. The rest of the cast including Shane Brolly, Sophia Myles, and a brief appearance by Wentworth Miller are okay in their roles but don’t have much to do. The action/fight sequences are well executed but a slow pace in between made the movie fee a little long. The film seemed to be juggling a bit too many characters and it sort of lacked a central villain because there are quite a few of them in this one. If they had focused on just one instead of Nighy, Brolly, Sheen, and many more the movie would’ve been a little better. It did have a Gothic feel which seemed to fit with the tone of the film and made it a little different than some sci-fi action movies out there. The music seemed to match well with what was happening on the screen as well. So despite some flaws Underworld may not be the greatest movie ever made but it’s certainly not the worst either. Overall Underworld has an intricate story, intense action, some suspense, cool special effects, and good performances by the cast who make this sci-fi movie worth watching at least once.

“Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan” Movie Review

“Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” Plot Summary

Admiral Kirk’s midlife crisis is interrupted by the return of an old enemy looking for revenge and a potentially destructive device.

Best Star Trek movie (and one of the best sci-fi movies) ever!

I rented the first three of the six original Star Trek movies a couple of months ago. After trying to sit through The Motion Picture twice, and couldn’t, This one I expected to be similar. Quite contrary. While The Motion Picture (TMP) had bleak and dull lighting, costumes (bad costumes even for Star Trek) This starts off with Spock’s Iconic ear, and we see a well done scene (The reason I knew what was going on is because I read Leonard Nimoy’s biography, where he talks about the movie) Then we have Khan, the best Star Trek villain ever! Ricardo Montalban gave the best performance of the movie with great lines, and he was threatening

This movie also broke new ground with one thing: Chekov (Walter Koenig) actually did something that progressed the plot! after two seasons of just saying ‘mother Russia’ and occasionally giving an input, he actually progressed plot! I suppose that you know the ending by now (I won’t say, just in case you don’t. But even if you do know what will happen, you still will love the scene (If you just want to watch it, I first found it on YouTube, result of lack of patience to sit through the movie for hours when I just want to watch that scene) After watching the whole movie, I still loved it very much and almost cried

Just watch this movie, It is the best Star Trek movie, with First Contact as a close second. The only advantage this movie has is it isn’t actually a geeky movie like the other nine (or the five of which I have seen)
