‘Terminator Salvation’ 2009 – Review
‘Terminator Salvation’ is the movie starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. Impressive visual effects, powerful mythology, strong script and harmonious cast – these are components of the fourth part of the saga about the deadly war between machines and humans.
Fears of fans which were waiting for the movie release with a sinking heart – if McG will ‘craft’ something similar to Mostow’s ‘chef-d’oeuvre’ – those fears appeared to be groundless. ‘Terminator: Salvation’ managed to wash off the stain which was mercilessly imposed on the Terminator franchise by mess titled ‘Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines’. Now you can easily erase Kristanna Loken’s Terminatrix and amoebous John Connor performed miserably by Nick Stahl from your memory. Feel free to consider ‘Terminator’ a trilogy with ‘terminator Salvation’ being the third part.
The opening musical score of the ‘Terminator’ – like a hammer knocking on the anvil, which promises arduous trials to the humankind – is responsible for creating a legend out of the low-budget action movie to the same extent as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has played the ruthless machine in the preceding three Terminators.
This familiar tune is perhaps the only component maintained by the franchise up to the fourth series of the ‘human-vs-machines’ opposition story. With this mechanical heartbeat, which penetrates into every corner of the audience’s hearts, six years after the ‘Rise Of The machines’ enters the fourth installation by director McG.

McG is a cunning fellow, so he chose the right way to reanimate the movie legend – he has invited Christian Bale to star in ‘Salvation’. McG as a director has got enough competence and skills to do high-tech cinema attraction ( ‘Charlie’s Angels’), but he still lacks the charisma of James Cameron to end up with ‘ the magic’ of cinema. The legend of ‘Terminator’ requires much more than just a skilled professional, and that fact has been proven by the Jonathan Mostow’s ‘Terminator 3′.

“Big Fish” Movie Review
“Big Fish” Plot Summary
A story about a son trying to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths his father told him about himself.
Beautiful and Unexpected
As a lifelong Burton fan, I approached this film with high hopes, and no trepidation whatsoever. Honestly, I have never met a Tim Burton film I haven’t liked for one reason or another, but Big Fish is only the second to make me cry (Edward Scissorhands being the first). I was expecting a deep storyline, wonderful cast of characters, and little confusion from time to time, but I got so much more than these things. We have all had a ‘big fish’, it’s the one that grows and grows until it takes on a life of it’s own, before long you don’t need to tell the story anymore, because that fish is just one step ahead of you. Bloom didn’t lie, he told his own version of the truth, a heartwarming, romantic, and enthralling truth. The cast was nothing short of stellar (especially Billy Crudup making one of his rather rare on-screen appearances). The characters made Big Fish what it is, each and every one influencing the progression of an incredible story you can only hope holds some truth. The elements of love, friendship, and family are embedded in the symbolism and dialogue. The visuals are captivating and awe inspiring. No one does it like Tim Burton, and Burton will struggle to ever create a film to match this…I would (and do) recommend it to everyone.

“HP and the Order of the Phoenix” Plot Summary
With their warning about Lord Voldemort’s return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as an authoritarian bureaucrat slowly seizes power at Hogwarts.
Great and emotional
Well, for me it was a pretty great movie. I am too, a huge book fan. But I know that cinema and literature are two well respected but totally different arts. The narrative in both has to be managed differently so the message can get to the spectators. So I understand the challenged it is to adapt a novel and turn it into a script. My solution is to enjoy the movie for what it is and what is made of. If I am going to compare it harshly I’ll do it in its own gender: with the rest of the Harry potter films. This is a movie that along with the goblet of fire helps us experience the evolution in the characters. The kids are growing and now they turned into teenagers, who have to deal with so many issues
The visuals: are great, but at times they seem to have changed effects that had been used in previous movies. To me that’s a mistake, as a movie spectator, no matter how the direction changes I always want to see certain connection between movies that will keep me believing that no matter who is behind it, this is always a Harry potter sequel. ***Spoilers*** Two effects that changed a lot were the dementors and Sirius talking to Harry through the fire in the chimney. Still, that final battle is really impressive.***spoilers** The actors: The old actors seem to be giving a lot and that’s great. The new actors showed quite potential for the characters. Dolores: is pretty convincing as a despicable just plain odious teacher. Tonks: is sweet in a way and funny in other, to me that said well about her. Bellatrix: I think she was my favorite. She had this crazy, detestable glow. Although her intervention was small, I don’t think anybody was left with doubts about her personality or her further importance in the story. Finally, Luna: sweet, strange, not comprehended, sometimes creepy. But her addition to the gang was progressive and well assumed. I think Voldemort is amazing! His intervention in the goblet of fire and now in this movie just makes me see that Ralph Fiennes couldn’t be more perfect. The music: ?Honestly? At times I almost hated the music. I just beg for john Williams to get back in the sequel. I’m sorry but the music in this movie was just plain, sometimes even dull. It was nothing compared to the previous four. If they are going to change Williams, they should do it for someone in the same high category. I have to admit that my favorite movies are goblet of fire and in second place Prisoner of Azkaban. But order of phoenix gave out great tools to continue to experience the wonders that come up ahead in the lives of these amazing characters. I loved the movie getting darker, and I always think that creativity and having the guts to dare to give new aspects into each of the movies are some of the qualities a Harry potter director should have to put it together. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the books, J.K Rowling is a genius. But separately I like to see a well assembled story that will make me experience something as amazing as the Harry potter world. Order of phoenix is great, impressive and emotional. Of course I found stuff I didn’t like, but I found stuff I loved, I’m looking forward to the next.

One of the Summer’s Best Blockbuster’s
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth installment in the Harry Potter series, and it is the greatest one yet. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince mixes comedy, romance, drama, and adventure into one, and makes it so marvelous and fun to watch.
The acting in this film than in the earlier ones is more mature and better in quality, also in part because of the maturity of all the actors in the film. Jim Broadbent, Alan Rickman, and Michael Gambon are brilliant and elegant to watch in this masterpiece. The trio, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Daniel Radcliffe are also amazing in their roles and pull them off well.
The directing and visuals in this one are marvelous. David Yates gives his best directing in his career to date, and does an amazing job of telling the storyline of J.K Rowling’s fantastic book. The visual effects are so well done and look so real. The cinematography sets the tone for the whole movie right from start to finish, and turns the series in a even darker direction. I also give praise to Hooper’s score which is beautiful and sets the tone in certain dark scenes.
To cap it off, the last half hour of the film is just delicious. The effects, cinematography, and acting are stunning in the last half hour, and sets up for a shocking ending. The movie is not sort of rushed, but you feel that it is being pushed forward. It doesn’t feel long at all because of everything going on, so it passes by normally. Quidditch is back and is certainly the funnest part of the movie and is action packed. The romance in this film is done well and is done humorously. Everyone in this film, whether it be Harry, Hermione, or Rom, all have love on their mind. Half-Blood Prince is also very funny, and Ron will have you laughing a lot.
A great film that most people will enjoy and especially fans of the books. It combines a lot of genres together and makes the film feel more real and more magnificent then the others. It’s a pleasure to watch, and when your done, you just can’t wait for the next two to come out. I hope you enjoy it!

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” Movie Review
“Sweeney Todd” Plot Summary
The infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. Based on the hit Broadway musical.
Got me onside, surprisingly good
I am generally not a fan of musicals. I don’t like the artifice of singing dialogue moments. I have no problem with singing in a movie but this grates on me. Take Dreamgirls for instance. For the most part i was fine with it, good songs, performed as performances with a narrative structure surrounding them. However once of twice it had songs in place of dialogue where characters were discussing things amongst themselves or some such thing and i just got annoyed. And yes i dislike all the classics like West Side Story for this very reason
For about the first 20-30 minutes of Sweeney Todd I was having the same problem. This makes no bones about it being a musical. It’s not Rex Harrison speak-sing, it’s not staged songs in the middle of clumps of dialogue, it’s pretty much all singing. Everything. Every sentiment, every emotion, every plan, every aside. Yet after about 20 minutes or so i got used to it and went with it and then just appreciated the wonderful dark humour and sheer entertainment quality of it
Johnny Depp is great in the lead but he is complimented across the entire cast with Alan Rickman on fabulously villainous mode; Timothy Spall wonderfully revolting an Beadle Bamford – Rickman’s henchman; and Helena Bonham Carter hilariously off-centre with all the best lines. It also has a star making turn from a brilliant child actor, Edward Sanders. Much better than the now ubiquitous Freddie Highmore (who got his big break with Depp in Finding Neverland before rejoining him (with Burton) in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory) he seems destined to have a great career potentially
The film’s greatest achievement however is how Burton has translated it to screen. This is a purely film musical. It never feels stagey. Unlike recent films like The Producers, Dreamgirls, Chicago which felt largely like they’d stuck a camera in a theatre and just filmed the show here Burton is brave enough to create a cinematic musical using all the tricks of his craft. That is never feels like it belongs anywhere but on a cinema screen is a huge testament to Burton’s skill in the translation and I hope the Academy is intelligent enough to recognise this come the Oscars next year
The dark humour is great, the look is stunning, Depp is gloriously unhinged while remaining believable. Even if, like me, you don’t generally like this type of musical i think you’ll get swept up in Sweeney Todd and enjoy it. Bravo Mr Burton.

perfect
This film is what most of the industry has forgotten how to make: FAMILY entertainment, meaning something which is enjoyable to people of all ages. This particular Wallace & Gromit can be enjoyed by everyone from toddlers who like the colors and cute bunnies to their grandparents who understand the adult references. This film has direction as good as any I’ve ever seen, and I mean that literally. It is also packed with tiny bits of humor, and each scene has so many humorous details in the background that I’m going to have to buy it, if only in order to read all the signs and handbills in W & G’s world. I plan to see this movie at least twice more in theaters, then buy it on DVD. You too should see it.

Great movie!!!
Good movie, actors, and plot…what more would you need? Nothing in this movie is lacking definition or explanation….it’s all right there! The only part that needs description is the ending, but it’s just a great leading into the sequel, which obviously there will be. I don’t think anyone should criticize this movie unless this is the kind of movie they like. Also, all you old POTA fans, you can’t compare this one to the original. The only thing in common is the basic plot….it’s not the same movie!!! So I think anyone who likes this type of genre of movies really will like this movie, but only see it if it interests you, not because you like the old POTA because it’s just not the same.

my favorite movie of the year
when i first went to the screening for this movie i was expecting it to be crap like the trailers suggested but i was surprised by how well made it is. this is an amazing movie that shows director Burton at his best. you all know the story by now so i won’t waste time going over it. what i love about this movie is how they kept the things that made the original movie great and also added in their own wonderful stuff. the trailers and TV ads make Wonka look like an idiot or some freak but he’s actually a pretty sweet man that’s funny as hell. the kids are great too, although they get a bit annoying at times. danny elfman’s music was also well done, it’s not as good as the one he did for scissorhands but it still holds it own and the set design was amazing from start to finish.this is a great movie that’s well shot and done in every way. it might just be the first remake since dawn of the dead that doesn’t suck

“Fight Club” Plot Summary
An office employee and a soap salesman build a global organization to help vent male aggression.
Fight Club (1999)
I feel it’s appropriate that this is the first film I am reviewing, as this is the film that changed me. This is the film that made me so passionate about it and drove me to want to study film at a tertiary institution and, you guessed it, write my own reviews. Obviously I was already really into film before my first viewing of Fight Club, but it was this film that set off that spark
Don’t let the title fool you. As a film fanatic, I always view a film without any prior ideas or opinions. This allows me to be able to write what I really thought of the film instead of writing a review on what I thought the film was going to be like. I understand that a lot of people go into the cinemas or video store and choose something to watch with the help of titles and covers. Would you go into the video store and pick up a DVD called Fight Club that was rated R18 with graphic violence and offensive language? If no, then that’s prior opinion. I didn’t let the title create a prior opinion. Now that I’ve cleared up any confusion with the title, I’m going to make this statement: Fight Club is a masterpiece
Jack, the narrator (Edward Norton), is a chronic insomniac desperate to escape his excruciatingly boring life. He joins these support groups for dying people. It becomes an addiction because it cures his insomnia. However, it is taken away from him when this girl named Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter) starts turning up to the same support groups. This is when he meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a charismatic soap salesman with a twisted philosophy. Tyler believes self-improvement is for the weak it’s self-destruction that really makes life worth living. Before long, Jack and Tyler are beating each other to a pulp in a bar parking lot, a cathartic slugfest that delivers the ultimate high. To introduce other men to the simple joys of physical violence, Jack and Tyler form a secret Fight Club that becomes wildly successful. But there’s a shocking surprise waiting for Jack that will change everything
From the moment the opening credits start, the audience knows that it is going to be one bumpy ride. Fincher is well-known for having interesting and atmospheric opening credit sequences, and the beginning of Fight Club is no exception. The amount of adrenaline and thrill pumped into your veins as you view the opening credits is amazing. You cannot get much like it. Only Fincher could capture that mood and chuck it at you from the first few seconds of the film. From then on in, the film is fast and action fuelled, with moments of realisation, excessive violence, and even humour (Brad Pitt’s character Tyler Durden is comic relief in itself).
In my eyes, this film is a masterpiece. Every single element of the film is perfect. How the film is put together by Fincher, along with the soundtrack composed by The Dust Brothers, the storyline/twist ending, along with the superb performances from the actors and actresses, especially from Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter, Fight Club is and will probably remain my favourite film. 5 out of 5 stars. *****
