“Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” Movie Review

“Return Of The Jedi” Plot Summary

After rescuing Han Solo from the palace of Jabba the Hutt, the Rebels attempt to destroy the Second Death Star, while Luke Skywalker tries to bring his father back to the Light Side of the Force.

Greatest Cinematic Film Of All Time

Despite the feelings of most ‘Star Wars’ fans, in my opinion ‘Return Of The Jedi’ is the greatest cinematic film ever created. Ever since the first time I saw it, it’s depth, intensity, special effects, and moving story have overwhelmed me. The film was so well put together that it has been able to stand the test of time over the last 20 years. Filled with powerful action, as the climax of the original trilogy, George Lucas gives us a rousing finish of the ‘Star Wars’ saga in ‘Jedi’.Film Summary (Contains Spoilers For Those Who Have Not Seen It)After ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ left us hanging for 3 long years we finally find the end of the story in ‘Return Of The Jedi’. Darth Vader, in emotional turmoil makes a surprise visit to a new uncompleted Death Star to oversee it’s construction. The Emperor is first seen in this film as he has the ultimate plan to destroy the Rebel Alliance and bring young Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side. Luke, Lando, Leia, Chewie, and the droids all travel to Tatooine to rescue the frozen Han Solo from the crime Lord; Jabba The Hutt. After Han has been rescued, and Jabba defeated, Luke returns to Dagobah to find a dying Yoda where he learns the awful truth; Darth Vader is in fact his father. The rebel heroes regroup with the Rebel Fleet. Now joined by other species and races including the Mon Calamari the Rebels must make a all-or-nothing plan of attack to destroy the Death Star before it is completed. While Lando heads the space attack in the Millennium Falcon, the Rebel heroes must disable the Death Star’s shield generator on the Forest Moon Of Endor. It is here that the Rebels happen upon the furry, but mighty Ewoks. During the the two part intense battle, a third battle must take place as Luke willingly delivers himself to Vader in an attempt to convince him to leave the Dark Side. In emotionally charged sequences Luke must face his father as the Emperor lures out his dark emotions. As young Skywalker is about to face his death at the hands of Palpatine, Vader turns on his wicked master to save his son’s life. Filled with a deep timeless story of good vs. evil, ‘Return Of The Jedi’ is a spectacular, emotionally charged film that redeems the good in all of us.

“Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” Movie Review

“The Empire Strikes Back” Plot Summary

While Luke takes advanced Jedi training from Yoda, his friends are relentlessly pursued by Darth Vader as part of his plan to capture Luke.

    Best of the best

I cannot believe some people out there didn’t like this film, yet claim to have enjoyed Episode One. No comparison whatsoever. ‘The Empire Strike Back’ is George Lucas’ best contribution to human history, and it will be remembered long after most other science fiction films have gone the way of the Do-Do Bird. The optical effects still stand the test of time, and the acting is superb. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher are all better than they we in the original Star Wars, having fully developed and grown into their characters, and the story just keeps going and going, from asteroid fields to swamp planets to cities in the sky, everything in this film works. So ignore anyone who claims to dislike it, and see it for yourself if you haven’t already done so. 20 out of 10!!Oh, and Han Solo shot first! =)

    “The Godfather 3″ Plot Summary

In the midst of trying to legitimize his business dealings in 1979 New York and Italy, aging mafia don Michael Corleone seeks to vow for his sins while taking a young protege under his wing.

    The Godfather Part III

Well done finale to the fantastic saga of the Corleone family with Coppola’s daughter Sofia being the only weak link in the acting area. Garcia is brilliant and carries the same vigor and power as Caan before him. Pacino still has that touch as Michael, now in his later years. The film moves along briskly and features great support from Mantegna, Wallach and a surprisingly well used George Hamilton. Wasn’t as big a hit at the Oscars as the first two installments, but the saga is still one of the most important series of films ever made.

    “Vantage Point” Movie Review

    “Vantage Point” Plot Summary

The attempted assassination of the American President is told and re-told from several different perspectives.

    Fun Crime Thriller

I really liked this movie for what it was. I’m not really sure what other people were expecting to give it what I believe to be unfair and too harsh critiques, but this is a good movie. It is not perfect, nor is it great, nor did it show me something I have never seen before, but it is a nice little crime thriller done in a unique manner

I have read that a lot of people felt that it was boring to see the same story played out over and over. But wasn’t that the point of this film? We knew that was going to be the case coming into this movie. And the thing of it is is that there is enough different in each perspective where it is not a bore to see the same instance multiple times. I liked how it was up to the viewer to try to piece things together and figure out exactly what happened and who the culprit really is. This is a good movie if you are not looking for anything great or mind blowing. I do enjoy when I see a great, mind blowing film, but I’m not expecting it every time that I sit down to watch a movie. I do not see any reason to dislike this movie. It’s good for what it is and if you’re in the market for an entertaining, ‘who dunnit?’ crime thriller I say ‘Vantage Point’ makes for a fun watch.

    “Speed” Plot Summary

A young cop must save the passengers of a bus that has a bomb set to explode if the bus goes below 50 MPH. add synopsis

    WOW. Thats It

Speed is a terrific thriller/action film that gives new meaning to the word ’suspense’. This and the fugitive are the only true thrilling movie of the past decade. Keanu Reeves, actually not that bad, plays a cop who is going after a mad-man (Dennis Hopper who is great as the 9-fingered terrorist) who has put a bomb on a bus which will explode if the bus goes under 50 mph. This wouldn’t be much of a problem, but in LA it is as much of a problem of pising off Hopper in this movie. The most action packed, thrilling movie I’ve seen in a while, maybe equal to the terminator. Favorite Line (after Hopper’s head get’s knocked off) Reeves- ‘Yeah, but I’m taller.’ Terrific entertainment. A+

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” Movie Review

    “Sweeney Todd” Plot Summary

The infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. Based on the hit Broadway musical.

    Got me onside, surprisingly good

I am generally not a fan of musicals. I don’t like the artifice of singing dialogue moments. I have no problem with singing in a movie but this grates on me. Take Dreamgirls for instance. For the most part i was fine with it, good songs, performed as performances with a narrative structure surrounding them. However once of twice it had songs in place of dialogue where characters were discussing things amongst themselves or some such thing and i just got annoyed. And yes i dislike all the classics like West Side Story for this very reason

For about the first 20-30 minutes of Sweeney Todd I was having the same problem. This makes no bones about it being a musical. It’s not Rex Harrison speak-sing, it’s not staged songs in the middle of clumps of dialogue, it’s pretty much all singing. Everything. Every sentiment, every emotion, every plan, every aside. Yet after about 20 minutes or so i got used to it and went with it and then just appreciated the wonderful dark humour and sheer entertainment quality of it

Johnny Depp is great in the lead but he is complimented across the entire cast with Alan Rickman on fabulously villainous mode; Timothy Spall wonderfully revolting an Beadle Bamford – Rickman’s henchman; and Helena Bonham Carter hilariously off-centre with all the best lines. It also has a star making turn from a brilliant child actor, Edward Sanders. Much better than the now ubiquitous Freddie Highmore (who got his big break with Depp in Finding Neverland before rejoining him (with Burton) in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory) he seems destined to have a great career potentially

The film’s greatest achievement however is how Burton has translated it to screen. This is a purely film musical. It never feels stagey. Unlike recent films like The Producers, Dreamgirls, Chicago which felt largely like they’d stuck a camera in a theatre and just filmed the show here Burton is brave enough to create a cinematic musical using all the tricks of his craft. That is never feels like it belongs anywhere but on a cinema screen is a huge testament to Burton’s skill in the translation and I hope the Academy is intelligent enough to recognise this come the Oscars next year

The dark humour is great, the look is stunning, Depp is gloriously unhinged while remaining believable. Even if, like me, you don’t generally like this type of musical i think you’ll get swept up in Sweeney Todd and enjoy it. Bravo Mr Burton.

“Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” Plot Summary

When Dr. Henry Jones Sr. suddenly goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, eminent archaeologist Indiana Jones must follow in his father’s footsteps and stop the Nazis.

    As great as Raiders

The third film of the series is virtually as great and as entertaining as Raider of the Lost Ark. We get to see Indy on a ‘quest’ to find the Holy Grail, which is even rarer than the Ark of Covenant and the Ankara Stones. In fact, this one is Indy’s most challenging adventure yet. To add more greatness to the cast, we get to meet Indy’s father Henry Jones Sr. (played by Sean Connery of James Bond-fame). Seeing Harrison Ford and Sean Connery as father and son gave me that ‘James Bond is Indy’s father’ kind of feeling

The film’s action scenes are great to watch! Spielberg’s directing formulated the action to a higher level than that of the Temple of Doom. In fact, I find the action here the most exciting yet. Overall, The Last Crusade is one of the best movies ever made with action and adventure. It’s right beside Raiders of the Lost Ark on top.

    “The Fugitive” Plot Summary

Dr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of killing his wife, must find the real one-armed killer while avoiding Marshal Sam Gerard.

Simply the Best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely Brilliant!!!!! 10/10

One of Harrison Ford’s most magnificant, significant and most highly acclaimed performances of his career. The Fugitive explores the themes of Justice and Betrayal from a murder case. Harrison Ford plays as Dr. Richard Kimble, a highly respected doctor in Chicago. He has all that he wants; a wife and a succesful promising career. But one night his life turned around. There is someone in his house………his wife is dead. Now he must run for his life to find the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. With a whole police force behind his back, he will not give up until he finds the man who killed his wife. Co-starring Tommy Lee Jones, this movie is one of the best thrillers out there. It makes us think hard on the themes portrayed in the movie and reminds us that Justice is not always achieved in our world. Harrison Ford’s extremely realistic performance as a man on the run, will keep you on the edge of your seat. This film is certainly a classic in the genre.

“6 Days 7 Nights” Plot Summary

Robin Monroe, a New York magazine editor, and the gruff pilot Quinn Harris must put aside their mutual dislike if they are to survive after crash landing on a deserted South Seas island. add synopsis

    Surprisingly, delightful!

I sat down in front of this movie fully expecting to laugh at it and was hardly ever given the opportunity: although the opening, with David Schwimmer ‘Friends-ing’ it is pretty awful. You sense there’s more to it all though when he asks Heche to wear something special and her naughty thoughts are quickly usurped with a ring. Nice script moment and I kept watching…The meat of the film centres around the burgeoning love between the unlikely castaway couple of Ford and Heche. I mean, this film has no pretensions beyond being a fully loved-up snog in the back of the flea-pit matinee, so we get flirting almost from the moment they crash. But a mixture of competent shooting at a marvelous location and great acting from Ford that’s well matched by Heche (who’s not only attractive, but game, wearing revealing costume throughout and having to refer to her own chest as ’small’ more than once) renders it sexy and believable

Chuck in some authentic contemporary pirates – I’m also a bit tickled by the fact that the Star Wars prequels’ Boba Fett is chasing around after IV, V and VI’s Han Solo! – and Reitman’s smart decision to avoid excessive tie-ups (e.g. How does Heche get down the island white water Ford found so difficult? Will Schwimmer hook up with the Latino at the end? etc.) and you have highly enjoyable 6.5/10 matinee fare for a weekend date. Bravo

    “Air Force One” Movie Review

    “Air Force One” Plot Summary

Hijackers seize the plane carrying the President of the United States and his family, but he (an ex-soldier) works from hiding to defeat them.

    A Great Thriller!

Air Force One is a very good thriller. The action and suspense will be nothing to forget. This movie is about the President’s plane, Air Force One being hijacked by Russian nationalists with the President on board. Now it’s up to the President and the Vice-President to negotiate with the terrorists or the hostages will die. The acting in this film is pretty good. Harrison Ford did justice with his outstanding performance as the President. Gary Oldman is good as the evil terrorist. The music in this film is fabulous and patriotic considering that the score took two weeks by Jerry Goldmith to compose. I liked the effects in this film. There is nothing special, but for a film from 1997, this has good effects even though there are few. Overall, this is a good movie for everybody except for kids. This film is a moving picture with outstanding courage. My rating is 10/10.
