“Frost/Nixon” Movie Review

“Frost/Nixon” Plot Summary

A dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon.

Absolutely Brilliant

As a teenager in Australia when Nixon resigned, I didn’t really understand the impact of his actions at the time. It’s only later that I’ve come to believe in his betrayal not just of American politics but of all democracies that have the same fundamental beliefs

So I went to see this film with some anticipation and was not disappointed. If Ron Howard was not considered a great director before, then surely he must be after this. The greatest problem with filming stage plays is overcoming the sense of ’staticness’. But Howard’s superb use of different camera techniques which allow both a sense of movement but do not distract from the stunning acting performances

Whilst Frank Langella is quite rightly getting a lot of attention for his remarkable performance (he manages to humanise Nixon, a feat I would have thought impossible), do not dismiss Michael Sheen’s mesmerising effort as David Frost. Both men inhabit their characters, not just play them

The support cast is excellent; Kevin Bacon reminds me of Eastwood at times and they are the best roles Oliver Platt and Sam Rockwell have had in a while

A masterpiece.

    “Cutthroat Island” Movie Review

    “Cutthroat Island” Plot Summary

A female pirate and her companion race against their rivals to find a hidden island that contains a fabulous treasure.

    Fantastic, fun, pirate adventure!

When I saw this movie, I was carried away by the excitement of the adventure. I have waited a very long time to finally see a heroine as strong, fascinating, and likeable as Morgan Adams (Geena Davis). Her character is a wonderful change from most female characters I’ve seen. Davis is in a perfect role as a rough pirate woman

Throughout the movie I remember hearing the audience cheering and clapping as the pirate companions foiled their foes. Everyone seemed to be electrified by the pure pirate adventure and chattered excitedly to one another as they exited the theater. Imagine my surprise when I heard how lousy this movie did in the box office

I believe this movie’s box office failure was a prime example of bad-timing and scathing reviews. Such reviews made me wonder if any of the reviewers had actually watched the movie! Pirate adventures are meant to be simple — all treasure hunt and swashbuckling style. The incredible, well-done explosions and death defying stunts made this movie an edge of the seat experience

Anyone who has ever enjoyed pirate adventure stories or role-played in treasure hunting genres will truly enjoy the fun ride of this movie

Sometimes a treasure hunt is just a treasure hunt! Enjoy it!

    “The Box” Plot Summary

A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don’t know.

    Would you press the button??

You have to see the whole movie to understand it, and get the concept that the movie is trying to convey to the viewer. To me I think it is an excellent movie. The movie would send primary questions like: Would you take the appealing move even if you have to kill somebody on the way?, or Would you take the next exit without taking in consideration that you will result in the fatal accident in the rear view mirror? The only bad thing in this movie is the unnecessary stretching of the story, which is attributed to the short story it is based on. The movie deserves a 7-7.5 points, but I had to use a 10 point vote because of the unfair judgment in some of the comments I have reviewed. So, Would you press the button??

    “The Ninth Gate” Movie Review

    “The Ninth Gate” Plot Summary

A rare book dealer, while seeking out the last two copies of a demon text, gets drawn into a conspiracy with supernatural overtones.

    Best Polanski in years…

Granted, I’m slightly biased since I happen to love Mr. Polanski’s work, but this film was really good. It kind of built in a slow, very menacing way and had an intelligent plot, only fully concluded until you’re out of the cinema. As usual with the demanding master, the performances are first class, specially Langella and Depp. Here comes a brief summary of the highlights in my opinion:Brilliant cinematography by the talented Darius Khondji (of Se7en fame).

The most original title sequence I’ve seen this side of Bond

Also listen closely to Wojchiech Kilars (of Dracula fame) absolutely brilliant score. So light, and yet so heavy and menacing. Very un-Hollywood

It definetly puts Polanski back into the game again. Now if they’d only let him back into the states so we could geta new Chinatown…..

    “Sweet November” Movie Review

    “Sweet November” Plot Summary

Nelson is a man devoted to his advertising career in San Francisco. One day, while taking a driving test at the DMV… add synopsis

…I recommend this movie to everyone young and old…

Before I start, just wanna warn you that English isn’t my native language, so sorry in advance. To put it baldly, this movie intrigued me only because of its ’starting lineup’ KEANU REEVES and CHARLIZE THERON, although in past few years Keanu seems to be taken over T. Cruise’s egocentric ways, but lets better stick to the movie. Before watching I had no idea what this movie was like, the only thing I knew it was romantic drama and to be honest how many possible plots there can be for this kind of movie?! Despite this fact I had no prejudice, I simply was hopping to enjoy this movie as it seemed ‘nice’, I mean entertaining and easy listening in a movie way. I gave this movie 8 out of 10 and I can clarify why, the beginning of this movie disappointed me a bit, as it was too precipitant (how could I know the reason for this in the start), but it definitely gave this movie a shallow look, plus some lapse did not saved the ‘day’ (I mean the episode with submarine). As the movie went on it get a bit better, but all in all it was average impression. Only when everything became obvious, there’s where it started to sting. The final scene really did gave me trouble breathing, no doubt the best episode and everyone should come up with his/her own thoughts about it, so I won’t impose mine. I had never happen to go through something like this, so I can only imagine how hard (more like impossible) it is. The reason I wrote this is to help (I honestly hope it will) the ones, who base there choices on the IMDb rates, numbers are not the best advisers here. I simply judge by the way it affects me, leaving out all the movie standards and cannons, so take it into consideration. I recommend this movie to everyone young and old, fat and bold (no exceptions). You might not like it, but it will certainly leave an imprint. Thanks for your time, hope it helped.
