“Transformers” 2007 by Michael Bay – Movie Review
If you think that good battle-robots Autobots and bad battle-robots Decepticons have landed on our dearest planet Earth in 2007 – you’re strongly mistaken. Because they came to our world in the times of the notorious Moscow Olympiad-80, when suddenly bubble-gum and coca-cola appeared in Moscow for the first time. Although the robots landed not in Moscow but in Japan. That is where these amusing robots-transformers were invented. They were the models of different automobiles which then could be transformed into battle robots.
The American toy company Hasbro got interested in these toys and bought the rights to produce them in the US. Interested in the American toy company Hasbro, and then bought the rights to their production in the States. Due to the fact that they approach marketing in the USA with all the possible seriousness. That’s why these nameless by the time auto-robots received their personal names. Which is more, they received a whole history explaining which planet they came form and what they do here. Well, and thirdly, the whole comics industry started hard work on creating the epci story of the planet Cybertrone on which the good robots Autobots under the leadership of brave General Optimus Prime (originally it was Prime Time but later reduced to simply Prime) are fighting against the bad robots Decepticons headed by an treacherous Megatron.
Thus, everyone was happy: Hasbro sold megatons of transformers, the Marvel company produced mountains of comics, and Sunbow Production crafted animated cartoons about the adventures of elusive Autobots behind the Decepticons’ enemy line. In the end Sunbow even produced full-length animated film “Transformers” in which Autobots and Decepticons arrive on Earth and start all kinds of battles, while a guy named Spike is helping our folks Autobots. But the movie was a failure. Why? Either due to the fact that there were too many robots and too few people, or due to the fact that the kids already got fed up with transformers – it is hard to say. After that the Transformers have almost disappeared – people lost interested in them. The new type of heroes has settled in the kids’ hearts – Spiderman, Pokemons and the like, resulting in the transformers being forgotten in the far corners of dusty garages. Nobody was interested in the fate of the planet Cybertron anymore.

However, in the mid-nineties Hasbro managed to revive the interest in the transformers. They invented a new concept: robots can now be transformed into animals. After that when the creators imagination started to blossom with new models, the kids’ interest woke up again, resulting in creating fan-communities which could fiercely argue upon which transformer is more cool – a hamster/crocodile or eagle/ram type.

“Alien” 1979 by Ridley Scott – Movie Review
“Alien” is a break-through film. A sensation on the battlefield for the moviegoers’ money. The movie which, along with several other movies shot in the late 70’s – early 80’s, defined the mainstream for many years (I would also mention that the era of “Alien” is not over yet, although it is close to its sunset as never before).
Gothic story in futuristic surroundings convincingly dusted by the wind of time (the interiors of the ship were artificially “aged”) sets the highest standards for the genre of space sci-fi. And a few have managed to surpass it. To tell the truth only James Cameron was able to do better in the “Aliens”.
Originally the screenwriter Dan O’Bannon was thinking about the storyline of gremlins spreading havoc on board the B-17 bomber. Later B-17 turned into a small starship named “Snark” with exclusively male crew. But the producers insisted that two women be included in the crew, and one of them should defeat the main villain. Time has shown that it was the right decision. Seemingly fragile but strong Ripley became the second – after her toothy enemy – most important symbol of the “Alien” cult universe.
According to the original intent the dying alien would scratch a triangle on the dashboard. Searching his ship the people from “Nostromo” would find a stone pyramid nearby with the aliens eggs. This idea was never implemented (though Giger did the necessary sketches), but the idea of the pyramid was finally used in the “Aliens v. Predator” movie.

“Match Point” Plot Summary
At a turning point in his life, a former tennis pro falls for a femme-fatal type who happens to be dating his friend and soon-to-be brother-in-law. add synopsis
The Talented Mr. Allen: Woody’s best film since ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’
MATCH POINT (2005) ***1/2 Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Scarlett Johansson, Emily Mortimer, Matthew Goode, Brian Cox, Penelope Wilton, Margaret Tyzack, Ewen Bremner, James Nesbitt. The Talented Mr. Allen: Woody’s best film since ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’Woody Allen has been a respected filmmaker for over thirty years and in recent memory has been in something of a slump with his trademark New York neurotic comedies of late and it has been well over a decade since he attempted anything resembling a drama (his last was a combination of comedy/ drama for his masterpiece ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’ in 1989) and in his latest stab at it comes through remarkably with his best film in sometime
Jettisoning his usual choice of his beloved Manhattan The Woodman jaunts across The Big Pond and sets his story in London (not the first European adventure mind you – he did go to Paris for ‘Everyone Says I Love You’) with the plot focusing on a borderline callow young tennis player cum pro, Chris Wilton (Rhys-Meyers giving Jude Law a run for the money as sexiest Brit on screen) whose philosophy for life is being lucky rather than being good or great at something. This proves to be his one flaw as he obtains a job as an instructor for a supremely private resort club where he befriends one of his charges, Tom Hewett (Goode), whose shared love for opera has him inviting the unassuming Chris to a performance where his family has a box seat reserved. Here he meets the rest of Tom’s family: respected businessman Alec (the ubiquitous Cox), tipsy mum Eleanor (Wilton) and engaging sister Chloe (the wonderfully sublime Mortimer) who falls deeply head over heels in love with Chris almost immediately. Chris too finds himself in love with Chloe and before you know it is taken in by the wealthy clan as one of the family
As the story progresses Chris finds this sudden shift in his life moving along nicely and to his agreement accruing a position in one of Alec’s many business ventures as an apprentice seller and weekends at the sprawling estate of the Hewetts. It is there he also meets Tom’s gorgeous American fiancee, Nola Rice (Johansson giving one of her better performances to date), a fledgling actress who beguiles Chris immediately and he is smitten by her, intoxicated by her very presence that the two wind up in a countryside embrace leading to a moment of unbridled passion. While Nola makes light of giving in to their primal desires as a lack of clarity on her behalf, Chris cannot get enough of her; Nola explains this desire is temporary and that she is getting married to Tom; end of story
Chris tries to do what’s right and eventually marries the unsuspecting Chloe and absorbs himself in work until one day while playing a set with Tom he is informed that Tom has dumped Nola and is in love with another unknown woman. The fire is re-ignited in Chris’ soul and the determination heightened as he becomes infatuated in finding Nola again to seduce her once and for all. Allen allows his talented class plenty of room to act up a storm but not overact the seemingly straight-forward melodrama at hand but what makes it rise above the norm is the way his leads make their seemingly unsympathetic characters empathetic. Rhys-Meyers remains cool as a cucumber until the predictable complication ensures his affair with Johansson will lead to an unlikely scenario that borders ridiculous mystery theater affair however maintains a balance of dread in when the couple will come to a head. Johansson mixes the smoky cadence of her Kathleen Turner-like vocals into a come-hither-insouciance not before experienced and has the tricky task of making her Nola’s head case come to fruition with believability; she succeeds succinctly
Allen’s screenplay is literate, clever and crafty and at once familiar with a few of his trademark quips tossed in with elan that his upper crust characters make the most of what they can with a dry bright witticism here and there. The storyline flows evenly amidst its choppy third act that feels a tad rushed yet when the darkness comes it echoes ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ which it has a lot in common with but never trespasses entirely. This is Allen’s most adult film in sometime and not to besmirch it perhaps his most challenging one to date. Thank God Woody is back in fine form, not unlike an old tennis pro on the senior’s tour with a wicked backhand.

“Shrek the Third” Movie Review
“Shrek 3″ Plot Summary
When his new father-in-law, King Harold falls ill, Shrek is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to install the rebellious Artie as the new king. Princess Fiona, however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fend off a coup d’etat by the jilted Prince Charming.
Funny With a Great Message
When Fiona’s father and King of Far Far Away passes away, the clumsy Shrek becomes the immediate successor of the throne. However, Shrek decides to find the legitimate heir Artie in a distant kingdom with his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to be able return to his beloved house in the swamp with the pregnant Fiona. Meanwhile, the envious and ambitious Prince Charming joins the villains of the fairy tales plotting a coup d’etat to become the new king.’Shrek the Third’ is very funny, having a great message in the end and completely underrated in IMDb. There are many unfair reviews and I really do not understand what these users have seen to dislike in this animation. There are many new characters from the fairy tales, but all of them has space along the plot, in at least one scene, and I liked, for example, the Cyclops with his beautiful daughter or the lines of Captain Hook just to mention two of them. I saw a version dubbed in Portuguese and the dialogs are excellent. The soundtrack is a plus and I loved ‘Immigrant Song’ and ‘Baraccuda’ in the attack of the heroines. My vote is eight

“The Stepford Wives” Plot Summary
What does it take to become a Stepford wife, a woman perfect beyond belief? Ask the Stepford husbands, who’ve created this high-tech terrifying little town, in a very modern comedy-thriller.
Colorful and comical remake.
Frank Oz’s remake of the classic 1975 thriller may be critically bashed by some, but is actually a very entertaining re-envisioning
Fired business woman moves to a small Conneticut village with her family, where she learns that the local housewives are acting very strangely
The Stepford Wives 2004 is one of the most cleverly done remakes around. Rather than try to capture the expectations of the original film, this remake looks at the already-familiar story in a whole new light as a dark comedy. Even more effective is the fact that this is a truly funny and well-written dark comedy! The direction is lavishly good, the film has some wonderful sets, a great music score, and a very stylish credit sequence
The great cast is yet another highlight. Lovely Nicole Kidman does an excellent performance as usual. While supporting cast Broderick, Midler, Close, Walken, and Bart make for some nicely colorful characters
Just why so many people dislike this film I don’t know, but it’s a remake that is worth being viewed before being judged. Some have come to like this version better than the original film.*** 1/2 out of ****

“American Gangster” Movie Review
“American Gangster” Plot Summary
In 1970s America, a detective works to bring down the drug empire of Frank Lucas, a heroin kingpin from Manhattan, who is smuggling the drug into the country from the Far East.
Great Gangster Film!
American Gangster is one of the few gangster movies I have seen. I think it might be one of the best if not the best. Another thing that makes this movie great is that there is historical accuracy, not a 100 percent but still accurate enough. This film is about a detective named Ritchie trying to capture the drug warlord Frank Lucas who is involved in many operations. He did this to support his family. An outcome involving the capture of Lucas really amazes me. Nearly three quarters of New York cops were arrested and convicted of bribery charges. Ridley Scottt did a great job directing this film. He can do any genre without making a fool out of himself. The acting is pretty good. I think Denzel Washington is a great actor. Russell Crowe actually did something right for once. The technical parts of the movie is pretty good. The movie is somewhat boring but I was kept awake because I was intrigued about the plot. I rate this movie 9/10.

“Kingdom of Heaven” Movie Review
“Kingdom of Heaven” Plot Summary
Balian of Ibelin travels to Jerusalem during the crusades of the 12th century, and there he finds himself as the defender of the city and its people.
A great film by Ridley Scott!!!
KOH is not Gladiator 2, first of all the movie is not about a slave dealing with Romans, at the heart of the movie is the battle for Jerusalem and two sides the Christians and the Muslims. KOH in my opinion raises up more issues than what Gladiator did and then some
The acting was great, Neeson as Godfrey of Ibelin , though he has a small role , leaves quite an impact. Bloom is wonderful, Eva Green is hot, Jeremy Irons is at his usual best , David Thewlis also puts up a great performance as Hospitaller, and Edward Norton turns in a memorable performance
The story is that in 1184 during the time of the Crusades , Balian a blacksmith becomes a knight to defend Jerusalem from Muslim invaders
Bloom as the protagonist who doesn’t believe in God or religion, ‘I am just a blacksmith’, undergoes a spiritual journey that tests both his values as a man (do I stay here and fight for people of Jerusalem) and his ideals about religion. He also has his morality come into question through almost the entire movie, does his give into temptation and join the dissenters of the church (Guy De Lusignan) or does he kill and lie to get what is offered a seat of the throne
The directing is brilliant, I believe this is shot on location if not, the sets, the special effects and budget really show. Ridley Scott as the veteran has a great eye for setting up locales, key battle scenes and incredible emotional characters
Balian’s character is also 100% vulnerable he takes his series of hard shots and hangs on to claim victory just when you think the numbers are against the guy he finds a way to outsmart his opponents
Back to story. Balian kills a priest who mocks his late wife who committed suicide. ’she is in hell because she committed suicide’ and so Balian out of rage and the contempt this guy has for him kills him. He is now a fugitive. When he learns Godfrey of Ibelin is his father, , Godfrey wants him to fight in the crusades and go to Jerusalem
Balian still in shock doesn’t want to go with his dad. When the authorities come to claim Balian and execute him, there is a big battle which results in some of Godfrey’s nights being killed. Balian seeing the sacrifice the knights have done for him, finally does go with his father
Balian gets christened as a knight, but doesn’t believe in God, is not an atheist per say, he believes in death but he doesn’t believe in the greater good
This is a key issue being brought up throughout the movie, what is religion? Is it just words or actions that we live by. Does God really offer us hope and salvation, and the answer is yes
When his dad dies and through the speeches with Hospitaller (David Thewlis) who talks about him about religion that Balian he starts to have a spiritual awakening of sorts. Exposed to the poor people of Jerusalem , Balian uses his new power as a lord and a knight to build up shelters and provide water for the people as he says which I am paraphrasing he is trying to be a good man and trying to aid the helpless
Hospitaller: ‘Religion is not made up by fanatics.. it’s about your rite of actions’ He makes the analogy that religion really is about who you are as a person and by what you do , not by what you preach as a so called Christian
Eva Green is Sybilla the future queen of Jerusalem whose brother King Baldiwn (Norton) is sick and near death. Sybilla likes Balian of Ibelin (Bloom) because she feels he is brave and good. She hates her husband Guy who is one of the knights for King of Jerusalem. She mentions she was forced to marry him in a prearranged deal so there’s an internal conflict with Guy and Balian. Guy and Balian previously meet early on when Godfrey introduces him to Lord Tiberius (Jeremy Irons) and Hospitaller. Sybilla also undergoes a transformation in the film as well, when the King dies, she sees in Balian leadership that is absent in her husband
Balian visits places in Jerusalem like the place of Christ’s crucifixion and gathers within himself spiritual strength and a sense of direction to the turbulence around him
The Muslim characters in the movie consists of Saladin (Ghassan Massoud)and , Muslim Grandee (Nasser Memazia who want Jerusalem for other uses such as for the nation of Islam. I should say the Muslim characters in this film get a large bulk of screen time. Furthermore, their characters are treated with respect and almost admiration. In fact Scott tells us their back story as well and we see display of Muslim religion in the movie such as Muslim praying in mosques and in the city of Jerusalem
This reminds me of the Palestian/Israeli conflict of sorts where you have both sides that believe in God but are battling for the control of one city, despite the fact that they both profess to believing in God. Some questions to ponder are these other people with religious ideals worse than we say they are, or are they merely some religious fanatics misusing the name of God for power? Couple that the moral questions that almost every character goes through and the questioning and denouncement and spiritual awakening of God and my you got yourself a thought provoking film
KOH is a great film. Not only is it full of action and great characters and wonderful acting but it also has a good story and challenges you as an audience to think about the messages in the movie long after you’ve left the theater!!!

“A Good Year” Movie Review
“A Good Year” Plot Summary
A British investment broker inherits his uncle’s chateau and vineyard in Provence, where he spent much of his childhood. He discovers a new laid-back lifestyle as he tries to renovate the estate to be sold. add synopsis
Incredible and Uninvolving
Watching this fantasy of cashing out to live a life of food, wine, sex and sunlit idleness in Provence, you don’t suspend disbelief for a minute. Right at the outset we are shown that Russell Crowe’s character is exactly what his beloved uncle calls him when he cheats at chess as a boy — ‘a little s**t.’ Now grown up, he enjoys making money by cheating, not so much for the money, though that’s nice too, but for the sheer pleasure of dominating others by being smarter, tougher and more ruthless than they are. Since, he’s surrounded by agreeably available women in London (the movie tries to make a running joke of flashes and cleavage shots) it is clear that he needn’t sleep alone. Nothing Crowe does makes us believe that he is less than perfectly satisfied with the life he leads, or that he would give it up to take up with a Provencal girl and contendedly guzzle home grown wine on the terrace. Nothing convinces that he and she are made for each other, or that she should see him as anything but a good looking rich foreigner who’ll be an enjoyable but short-lived roll in the hay. Because Crowe’s boss writes him a thumping severance check when he turns down a partnership and leaves the firm, his choice is too easy to be interesting. His buddy the real estate agent has it right. After six months he’ll be bored to death, up to his ears in some financial shenanigan, and probably fooling around on his honey just to prove to himself that he can get away with it
The subplot with the American cousin never gets its feet untangled because the conflict between them over who deserves the property and what to do with it isn’t fully developed. She’s supposed to be smarter, tougher and more knowledgeable about wine than her youth and good looks indicate, but she doesn’t get to do very much with those qualities. Crowe’s character can’t stand losing. It would have deepened him, and explained his change of life, to have this kid see through him, take him on and beat him at his own game. It would have been a more dramatically satisfying romance to have him try to seduce her, fail, and then fall in love and have to win her. The film hints at those possibilities and immediately backs away
There’s a lot else wrong with the picture. We never feel that Crowe is actually in serious trouble over the financial maneuver that gets him suspended for a week because he never acts like a man who’s job is on the line. There are a number of pointless sexual innuendos involving secondary characters that don’t go anywhere except, perhaps, the cutting room floor. The rental car foul up is formulaic, not credible and therefore not funny. The smack at a couple of clueless American tourists with Southern accents is smug, gratuitous and irritating. Albert Finney’s role of Bacchus as an English gentleman gone native is written by the numbers and phoned in on screen. The flashback structure allows Scott to pull out of the hat whatever rabbits he needs to keep the plot moving, like Crowe’s childhood ability to imitate his uncle’s handwriting and his one childhood encounter with the woman he falls in love with. That actress, by the way, is too young for a character whom we learn is about the same age as Crowe
The only really enjoyable performance is Archie Panjabi (who played Parminder Nagra’s older sister in Bend It Like Beckham) as Crowe’s hip, all knowing secretary. Her work I’d like to see more of
Bottom line is that this is an unsuccessful variant on the formula High Pressure Guy Finds Self And Love In Laid Back Town. Cars and Doc Hollywood did it better. The Luberon region photographs beautifully, but that’s it.

“Body of Lies” Movie Review
“Body of Lies” Plot Summary
Roger Ferris uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan.
The most entertaining CIA thriller of 2008.
Next to The Good Shepard(2006), Body of Lies is also a realistic look at the spy life. And you see it’s not the life that James Bond depicts it to be. I look the way it combines a thriller and the realism of the war. It was wonderfully well put together
A C.I.A. operative Roger Ferris(Leonardo Di Caprio) is on assignment in Jourdan in hopes to flush out a terrorist, Roger gets his orders from Ed Hoffman(Russell Crow) his cocky boss. But after things don’t go according to plan, Roger and Ed think up a new plan to flush out the terrorist. By making him think that somebody new is trying to muscle in on his territory. The stakes begin to get too high for Roger, and will this come crashing down on him?It was masterfully well directed by Sir Ridley Scott, he did every moment and angle perfectly. The way Sir Ridley Scott could do it so perfectly. Not to mention it was also brilliantly acted by Russell Crow and Leonardo Di Caprio. There are moments that will leave you bewildered and captivated.

“Hannibal” Movie Review
“Hannibal” Plot Summary
Hannibal returns to America and attempts to make contact with disgraced Agent Starling and survive a vengeful victim’s plan.
Pretty intense and disturbing
Hannibal, the follow up to Silence of the Lambs, is pretty good. Now, I just have to say, Julianna Moore cannot replace Jodie Foster, but she sure did a good job, and came close to being on par, its just that her character isn’t the same because its not Jodie Foster. That being said, the film is pretty good, better than I expected actually. Anthony Hopkins as always gives an outstanding performance. He is so creepy and bizarre, its just great. Ray Liotta also does good, but that actually goes for most of the cast in the movie. Its a great thriller and good follow up. However, unlike silence of the lambs, which was more subtle with the outright violence, this is much more gruesome and cringe worthy, especially one scene (sure to shock viewers). A must see in for anyone who liked Silence of the Lambs or a fan of thrillers. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for Strong gruesome violence, some nudity and language
