“Shrek the Third” Movie Review

“Shrek 3″ Plot Summary

When his new father-in-law, King Harold falls ill, Shrek is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to install the rebellious Artie as the new king. Princess Fiona, however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fend off a coup d’etat by the jilted Prince Charming.

Funny With a Great Message

When Fiona’s father and King of Far Far Away passes away, the clumsy Shrek becomes the immediate successor of the throne. However, Shrek decides to find the legitimate heir Artie in a distant kingdom with his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to be able return to his beloved house in the swamp with the pregnant Fiona. Meanwhile, the envious and ambitious Prince Charming joins the villains of the fairy tales plotting a coup d’etat to become the new king.’Shrek the Third’ is very funny, having a great message in the end and completely underrated in IMDb. There are many unfair reviews and I really do not understand what these users have seen to dislike in this animation. There are many new characters from the fairy tales, but all of them has space along the plot, in at least one scene, and I liked, for example, the Cyclops with his beautiful daughter or the lines of Captain Hook just to mention two of them. I saw a version dubbed in Portuguese and the dialogs are excellent. The soundtrack is a plus and I loved ‘Immigrant Song’ and ‘Baraccuda’ in the attack of the heroines. My vote is eight

“Horton Hears a Who!” Movie Review

“Horton Hears a Who!” Plot Summary

Horton the Elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.

A masterpiece– and funny, too!

I remember hearing about this film when it came out. And, you know what I thought? ‘Oh, this will be an ordinary children’s film that won’t have a good rating on IMDb.’ Then my mother and I came to see it, not fully knowing what to expect… And when I came out of the cinema, I was in absolute awe of ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ Let me tell you why. First of all, the film had excellent humour (including a genius anime parody sequence), yet it also possessed gripping suspense and heartrending drama. It’s likely that you’ll laugh AND cry– the climax made me excited– and probably do either or both loudly. What would happen to the Whos? Secondly, the animation is beautiful– stunningly detailed, yet not too realistic. And, finally– did I mention the intense emotions that this film made me feel? Overall, this film is a masterpiece with the perfect balance of drama and humour. Adults will love the delicious drama, while the younger people will get a good laugh. Bring the whole family — you may not regret it!

    “I-Spy” Plot Summary

Based on the 1960’s television series I Spy. A professional athlete (boxer – Eddie Murphy) has to help a U.S. government agent recover a missing jet. add synopsis

    overall pretty funny,gotta watch it.

eddie murphy is a big mouth boxer where everything is all about him. his attitude is raw and self endulging. owen wilson is a spy that gets all the low budget crappy spy equipment but feels that he is a much better spy than his cohorts. his coworkers get all the good stuff ( high dollar epuipment) and he gets junk, and he makes a big deal about it several times in the movie in a funny way. if you want to watch a funny movie with lots of unexpected punchlines then this is a must see. the storyline is a little lame and predictable, but the acting and annicdotes(sp?) make up for it. pretty good action and lots of humor.very entertaining for an hour and a half. one of the best films i have seen put out by both actors in a while ( 2 years or longer).

Axel Foley, while investigating a car theft ring, comes across something much bigger than that: the same men who shot his boss are running a counterfeit money ring out of a theme park in Los Angeles. add synopsis

    A Pretty Good Movie….

OK Now BHC III doesn’t live up to the first 2, but in my opinion is still very underrated. It still has a lot of action in it a lot of shooting a good story and is also funny because of Murphy. The only thing I did not like about this movie was Cox, and Ashton were not in this one. They were a big part of the first two. But in conclusion this was a very good movie and I enjoyed all 3 very very much and I’m a Big Eddie Murphy fan now because of these movies. I can honestly say that I was not a fan of him at all until I saw these movies. I own all 3 of these movies, and if the 4th one does end up being made hopefully it will be like the first 3 and still be a rated R movie with a lot of action and comedy like these 3. I really really hope they don’t bring down the rating and make this a family movie or ruin this at all. AXEL RULES!!!! Thank You MR4

Riggs and Murtaugh are on the trail of South African diplomats who are using their immunity to engage in criminal activities.

    The adventure continues

The adventure continues with Lethal Weapon 2. All the great characters are back and with some new ones, as well. Joe Pesci enters the Lethal Weapon-series as the annoying and witty Leo Getz(ok ok ok ok?) Riggs and Murtaugh must fight against a South-African diplomat, who`s a big drugdealer. The classic mixture of action and comedy is also to be found here. I have never seen another series of movies (except Die Hard), where all the chapters are just as great as the original film. 9/10

    “Beverly Hills Cop” Movie Review

    “Beverly Hills Cop” Plot Summary

A freewheeling Detroit cop pursuing a murder investigation finds himself dealing with the very different culture of Beverly Hills. add synopsis

    My favorite Eddie Murphy film!

Every time I see Eddie Murphy the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and how wonderful of a movie this is. This film is possibly one of the best action-comedy films out there. The action is done extremely well, the comedy is right on, the characters are likable, the acting is fantastic, and the story is great

Eddie Murphy really shines in this role as Axel Foley, a very likable Detroit Cop, and does a fantastic job of laying out the groundwork for a great franchise, as does director Martin Brest. Judge Reinhold and John Ashton play Axel’s Beverly Hills counterparts. Both pulling off fantastic performances and playing very enjoyable characters. Ronny Cox also does a fine job with his role in the film. Bronson Pinchot and Paul Reiser also deserve some notice as well, despite having very little screen time, they both make the best of it. I’d also like to point a little known actor named Damon Wayans in the film, playing an extremely small part, but nonetheless a good one (he’s the man that gives Axel the bananas).

As I mentioned before the action and the comedy are right on and the scenes flows very nicely together, you never once get bored throughout the film. If you are one of the few people on this earth that hasn’t seen ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, I strongly suggest you watch this one. It’s a fantastic film and deserves to be seen. Hope you enjoy(ed) it. “Waterworld” Movie Review

    “Waterworld” Plot Summary

In a future where the polar ice caps have melted and most of Earth is underwater, a mutated mariner fights starvation and outlaw “smokers,” and reluctantly helps a woman and a young girl try to find dry land.

The $200 Million Dollar Roger Corman Film

I’ll admit it: I liked ‘Waterworld’ . . . or parts of it, anyway. No, ‘Waterworld’ is not exactly Shakespeare — for that matter, it’s not exactly James Cameron, either — but it hits a certain ‘Mad Max/Road Warrior’ vibe that’s moderately cool, and it provides a handful of decent thrills. Should two hundred million dollars been spent on this flick? Probably not, but I’ll ask you this: Does it matter? If you only have to plunk down three bucks to rent a movie, does it really matter what that movie’s budget was, provided that you were at least slightly entertained?’Waterworld’ is the story of the Mariner (Kevin Costner); a tough, grizzled loner who roams the seas of post-apocalyptic Earth. The polar icecaps have melted, flooding the world, and land has become little more than a legend. During his travels between the tiny man-made islands that comprise the remnants of civilization, the Mariner meets a woman named Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and a small girl named Enola (Tina Majorino) who claim to have knowledge — or at least a cryptic map — of where to find land. Of course, a rowdy gang of pirates known as the Smokers also are aware of the fact that Helen and Enola have this knowledge; so, under the guidance of their mad leader Deacon (Dennis Hopper), the pirates try to hunt down the two. Faced with his one slim chance of ever finding land falling into the hands of complete madmen, it’s up to the Mariner to protect Helen and Enola — and ultimately, to try and defeat the Smokers — if he wants to keep his dreams and himself alive . . . .The premise of ‘Waterworld’ is interesting enough; I like the fact that the film actually tries to show (at least in the opening scenes) how people would survive in a world flooded by salt water. There’s some cool flashes of originality in here regarding what the world would be like — for example, the fact that ordinary dirt has become so valuable as to become the standard of currency — but unfortunately, that originality gets ignored the second the action starts rolling halfway through the film. Overall, the script isn’t terrible — however, it’s quite predictable. For example, the first part of the film is spent explaining painfully how there is no more land, and how it’s just a myth . . . gee, wonder what our heroes will find towards the end of the film? A couple of twists spring readily to mind (for example — there genuinely is no more land, or dry land can be found far beneath the sea in domed cities, like some kind of ‘Atlantis’, perhaps) — one such twist would’ve been nice to see. While the story does have its good moments (particularly any scene involving Dennis Hopper), it’s too formulaic to be called exciting. Nice? Yes. Exciting? No. The few good scenes are very, very good, but there’s a lot more average — or even dull — scenes spread out between the sparse fun

The most puzzling part about ‘Waterworld’, though, is the direction. The film is loaded with action, and I’ll give credit where credit is due — nearly all of the action looks great, especially since all the fights and the action take place out on the water. But for $200 million . . ? It doesn’t look THAT good. I know a significant part of the film’s budget was spent on floating sets out in the Pacific — but the camera cuts and shot selections are usually so quick and tight, it’s hard to notice the background. There’s no long, slow shots basking on the glory of these expensive sets. ‘Waterworld’ is filmed exactly like a typical action movie, which is okay, I guess, but it completely fails to take advantage of its resources. Quite strange, to say the least

As for the cast . . . it’s a mixed bag. Kevin Costner does a very good job as the grizzled Mariner, playing against type as a hardened, almost amoral anti-hero. It goes against the good-guy grain that Costner has typically played in most of his films, and Costner seems to relish the change. Dennis Hopper is terrific as the villainous Deacon; the role is completely over-the-top and absolutely ludicrous at times . . . in short, the part is perfect for Hopper. His lines simply drip with withering sarcasm, making him a quite memorable screen villain. The rest of the cast . . . ehh. Nobody does a horrible job, but nobody’s particularly memorable, either. Should ‘Waterworld’ have been a $200 Million Dollar Dud? Probably not. In a perfect world, ‘Waterworld’ would’ve been a $20 Million Dollar Sleeper, directed by John Carpenter and starring Rutger Hauer . . . or a $2 Million Dollar Cult Classic, directed by Roger Corman and starring Lorenzo Lamas. However, this isn’t a perfect world (as evidenced by the fact that Freddie Prinze, Jr. keeps making movies), so ‘Waterworld’ is forever branded as the bad film with a runaway budget. Too bad. ‘Waterworld’ is by no means a great movie, but it has some entertaining moments, enough to warrant at least a rental . . . and some frequent pushes of the fast forward button. Grade: B-/C+

    “Mulan” Movie Review

    “Mulan” Plot Summary

To save her father from death in the army, a Chinese maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China’s greatest heroes in the process. add synopsis

Delightful Animated Girl Hero who Breaks with Disney Traditions

‘Mulan’ is not quite a chick flick and it’s much better than ‘Pochantas.’ It has terrific animation and I forgot I was even watching animation. The script has some funny lines. The music is not great (the writers didn’t ring any bells with me as to their past work) but good lyrics. I was disappointed that the music wasn’t as Asianish as ‘Lion King’ is Africanish. And the final rap is a bit off-putting, though the segue into the Stevie Wonder song was fun

Eddie Murray isn’t Robin Williams but he’s fun. At least they do use quite a few Asian actors’ voices – Wing Na Wen (‘E.R.’), George Takei (‘Star Trek’), B.D. Wong (‘Oz’) Pat Morita (‘Karate Kid’). I think ‘Mulan’ is the first Disney animation post-Katzenberg and there’s a couple of digs at him and responses to the criticisms of how he did the girl stars. There was a lot of criticism of how Katzenberg personally insisted on Jasmine in ‘Aladdin’s impossible Barbie shape and ‘Mulan’ takes that on with a line about how stupid it is to want such a narrow waist. Definitely a much more positive body image movie than under the Katzenberg regime. There’s no dead mother syndrome here, well for Mulan anyway. The Captain’s mother isn’t mentioned. Not only is there a mom, but even a grandmom. The father is still Freudian – he’s wounded. All the Disney dads of daughters have some incapacity or other or tragic flaw

Refreshingly, there’s no wedding at the end with birds chirping as a canopy. The courting is assumed and the grandmom invites the captain to live there forever–but Mulan shuts her up. (originally written 7/23/1998)

Wonderfully irreverent family film with lots of laughs

The filmmakers obviously have some irreverence regarding Disney, and it’s about time I say. Especially with the rather un-Disneylike behavior the studio has engaged in for the past dozen or so years. The anti Disney jokes are so much fun (our favorite is the ’small world’ parody!). I have to wonder what DULOC means! I have listened to the commentary on the DVD, done Google searches, looked through the trivia on IMDb, all to no avail. I wonder what the big secret is. Anyway, this is a family favorite of ours. The jokes may go over the heads of small children, but they will still enjoy the animation. The music is fantastic. My teenager even bought the soundtrack to it.

    Fun to watch

This movie was so much fun. I loved it! The idea of someone who could literally speak to animals was enough to make be want to see it. And it was fun to hear the animals talk. One of the things I like most about this movie is that it makes you believe what is going on. When you watch some movies, you don’t feel like what you’re watching is really happening. But Dr. Dolittle makes you believe that the animals are really talking. Every animal had its own personality, which made the movie all the more realistic. I give this movie a 9/10 out of 10. I really hope they make a sequal because this movie deserves one.
