” Alien?” 1992 by David Fincher – Movie Review

Ellen Ripley Closely Cropped

Ellen Ripley Closely Cropped

A rare case for Hollywood: the “Alien 3″ movie is so bizarre, so non-for-profit that it is pretty surprising it got shot and released to the theatres. The film has undergone an unusually complex preparation process: the script was at different times written by the famous cyberpunk writer William Gibson and screenwriter Eric Red, among the previous assigned directors were Renny Harlin and Vincent Ward (director of the “The Navigator: A Mediaeval Odyssey”, 1988), some of Ward’s storyline ideas entered the final script, which was then modified by producers David Giler and Walter Hill. The latter said later that in the “Alien 3″ he sees a certain connotations associated with the AIDS virus: well, it might be the way it is. The last of the directors, David Fincher, by the time was known mostly for a few inventive rock-music videos. Subsequently this director got famous for strong thrillers “Se7en” (1995) and “The Game” (1997).

Alien 3 Plot Summary

A remote planet, neglected ore refinery- a correctional facility for especially dangerous criminals with extra Y-chromosome. An escape vessel in which Ripley, Newt, Hicks, and a droid called Bishop are traveling on crash lands on Fiorina 161. Unfortunately, although Newt and Hicks do not survive the crash, the brisk and tenacious form of life does and it is probably somewhere nearby, in the endless factory ventilation shafts. The rescuer team from the Corporation is already speeding to rescue, though who knows whom exactly they are going to save? Therefore Ripley and the local black sanctimonious leader have raised the convicts to fight the alien monster – and the alien habitually tears all the living beings into parts but somehow it doesn’t touch the heroine.

    “Lethal Weapon” Plot Summary

A veteran cop, Murtough, is partnered with a young homicidal cop, Riggs. Both having one thing in common, hating working in pairs. Now they must learn to work with one and other to stop a gang of drug smugglers.

    A Definite Top 250 Movie

This ‘absolute classic’ film is ‘without doubt’ ‘one of’ the ‘best films’ ‘ever’!!! It really is a ‘fantastic film’ with moments of ‘pure joy’ and ‘awesome action’ that will ‘keep you at the edge of your seat/s’. I remember the first time I ever ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ this film. I was a ‘wee nipper’ back in ‘the day’. I was ’sat’ on my ‘own’ in the cinema (we used to call it ‘the pictures’) and I watched it from the ’start’ to the ‘very’ end. (including all of the credits, which were ‘excellent’ too). Then I watched it when it came ‘out’ on VHS (although we used to call it ‘video’ – tsssh! How silly were we??) and I remember ‘thoroughly enjoying’ it ‘all over again’. Afterwards, I turned to my Monkey, ‘Dave’ and said: ‘You know what, Dave?’ (He doesn’t say much back, ever, so I went on…) ‘I ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ watching that ‘film’ (or was it ‘movie’ I said??) ‘all over’ ‘again!’

    “Lethal Weapon 2″ Plot Summary

Riggs and Murtaugh are on the trail of South African diplomats who are using their immunity to engage in criminal activities.

    The adventure continues

The adventure continues with Lethal Weapon 2. All the great characters are back and with some new ones, as well. Joe Pesci enters the Lethal Weapon-series as the annoying and witty Leo Getz(ok ok ok ok?) Riggs and Murtaugh must fight against a South-African diplomat, who`s a big drugdealer. The classic mixture of action and comedy is also to be found here. I have never seen another series of movies (except Die Hard), where all the chapters are just as great as the original film. 9/10

    “Lethal Weapon 3″ Movie Review

    “Lethal Weapon 3″ Plot Summary

Martin Riggs finally meets his match in the form of Lorna Cole, a beautiful but tough policewoman. Together with Roger Murtaugh…

    Great fun…

The signs of aging could shine through in ‘Lethal Weapon 3,’ but they don’t. Because – magically – the series doesn’t seem to be aging too much. Why? Because the series is always changing. It is smart, in that it realizes it cannot continue with the cop-buddy action-comedy formula per se, so it almost becomes more of a strict comedy with some big stunt pieces and looney fights. Sure, there’s plenty of action, but it’s not as fierce of bruising or just downright vicious as in the first two films. When there are fight scenes they seem a bit more corny than before. This is a more lighthearted entry into the series, and though you could say without seeing the film that soft is not what ‘Lethal Weapon’ is about, just remember how tiring it would have been seeing a repeat of the second and first film

Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) are back. The film opens with an explosive prelude that has become the symbol of the ‘Lethal Weapon’ movies (later films such as ‘Bad Boys’ – another cop-buddy film – tried to use the same technique but, in my opinion, sort of failed).

After the opening sequence, in which they try to diffuse a bomb in a parking garage but end up tripping the detonator instead, the two men are demoted from Sergeants to regular cops – they walk the streets in boredom giving out tickets to J-walkers and trying to find a way to have some fun

Murtaugh is bent on retiring – again – in a week. Riggs, now his best-buddy, tries to ignore the fact as best he can by cracking jokes about girdles. (Don’t ask.) While walking the streets they come upon an armored van robbery (what are the chances?) and stop the crooks through a windy car chase along a highway, with a reference to ‘The Road Warrior’ along the way. (And if you don’t understand that joke, you don’t belong on this site.)Plot revelation upon plot revelation finally builds up into the fact that new weapons are filling the streets – ‘cop killers’ – that can go right through a bulletproof vest and out the other side. Brought in to investigate into these matters is Lorna Cole (Rene Russo), a woman after Riggs’ own heart. She kicks butt, pays no attention to rules, and is a smart…bottom

Also returning is Joe Pesci to the role of Leo Getz. His head full of bleached hair and sporting a nice car, the retired thief is now in real estate, trying to sell Murtaugh’s home to interested folk. One of the best scenes is when Getz is taking a couple through Murtaugh’s home and mentions all the different accidents they’ve had over the year, including the car smashing through the wall and ‘accidental bomb damage’ upstairs. He later says it’s illegal to withhold information. And this is coming from the guy who, in ‘Lethal 2,’ admitted to laundering drug money.’Lethal Weapon 3′ is full of fun, good intentions, and more fun. For fans of the first two films this is a great relief – it’s not nearly as bad as you’re expecting it to be. However, there are more than a handful of flaws here. The plot is not nearly as realistic nor intriguing as the first two, the action is a bit too dumbed down at times, and overall the film seems more like a big-budget extravaganza as compared to the smartness of the first two. Still, you really can’t go wrong with ‘Lethal Weapon 3,’ because if you enjoyed the first two, you’re going to eat this up.4/5 stars.- John Ulmer

    “Last Boy Scout” Movie Review

    “Last Boy Scout” Plot Summary

A down and out cynical detective teams up with a down and out ex-quarterback to try and solve a murder…

    Best Movie Ever !!!

Yeah it’s true, this movie is the one I like most of all I’ve ever seen in my life (and believe me, I’ve seen a lot of movies). No minute passes without a cool saying of Bruce or something been blown up. It’s the kind of movie where you can’t run away to toilet because you know something is going to happen the next second. Bruce Willis plays the perfectly cynical Joe Hallenbeck who has to investigate the murder of Jimi Dix’ (Damon Wayans) girlfriend. But the motive reaches up to an influential politician and the owner of a football team.

Actually the plot isn’t really important in this movie, it’s rather the cool appearance of Joe Hallenbeck, whose sayings are extremely funny, and Jimi who tries to be like Joe. I read somewhere that it is the movie with the most sayings, on which I can only agree. It is like ‘The Rock’ or ‘Die Hard’, only better. If you liked those you will love ‘The Last Boy Scout’. If you’ve never watched it: Shame on you!! Go get it at the local video store! (but watch out for the uncut version, because else you miss the best scene)

    “2012″ Movie Review

    “2012″ Plot Summary

An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

    Great roller-coaster ride

Okay, the first thing I’d like to say is, ignore those comments from members who belong to ‘the worst movie ever club!!’ These members think it is way cool to label every slightly disappointing movie as ‘ the worst movie ever’ and emphasize their juvenility with tons of exclamation marks. They think it is way cool to trash movies.

The movie just isn’t that bad. It’s not that great either so ignore those who gush and tell you how awesome it is and rate it 10 out of 10.

This is a film best viewed in the movie theaters on the largest screen possible to enjoy the thrilling sensation of cities breaking up, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. This is indeed a thrilling roller-coaster ride. It is best to leave your brain at home, however, as you will cringe at the clichГ©s, the schmaltz, and the absurdities. That doesn’t make it the worst film ever, though. So go for the ride and enjoy the CG effects.

    “Predator 2″ Movie Review

    “Predator 2″ Plot Summary

Amidst a territorial gang-war, a sophisticated alien hunter stalks the citizens of Los Angeles and the only man between him and his prey is veteran LAPD officer, Lieutenant Mike Harrigan. add synopsis

One of my all time favorite Sci-fi’s

I found this sequel to be much more complex and also more entertaining than the original. First of all the original revolves around Arnold S.(although I still find it to be Arnold’s best movie, and also like Carl Weathers and Sonny Landham) who is this 80’s action-man stereo-type one-dimensional feel-no-pain killing machine who nobody in their right mind can identify with and second the jungle is much too obvious a studio set.

The second Predator on the other hand is set in an anarchic future in the asphalt-jungle, midst a drug dealers-police violent confrontation(I loved the war-zone-city vision), and hunted by government agents(this being an excellent pretext to display some stylish shooting-techniques and unusual angles, and also explain the creature’s nature and motives) who want to capture the beast(Gary Busey-another brilliant performance) to study it for it’s killing potential. The voodoo-gang’s whole mystique, the hard music score, the attention for detail – the south-American influenced interior design of the drug-lord apartment or the interior of the alien ship(there are some hidden treats for the trained eye, like the alien skull and other interesting trophies) and not at least the creature’s design are just a few examples for the stylish quality of this much better than the original sequel. Danny Glover brings a touch of real to the tough but human lead character while Bill Paxton(bad-mouthed as always-I just love this guy in everything he’s done), Ruben Blades and Conchita Alonso are the flavor of this adrenalin ride. Keep out an eye for the color composition of virtually every scene – a treat. There’s no killing what can’t be killed…

    This movie is so moving

I was in tears and all emotional when I watched this movie. It’s not a movie only for Christian people to watch, I think this movie’s for anyone and I definitely recommend it. I used a whole box of my Kleenex and my eyes were so red by the end of the movie I freaked out myself. Honestly, people should make more movies like this, because nowadays, it’s all movies like where you forget what the movie is really about. And then couple of months later, you don’t even remember if you watched the movie or not. I don’t think that really makes sense there. But anyway this movie is really good! I’ve got the soundtrack and it’s really really good, watch the movie !!!

    “Saw” Movie Review

    “Saw” Plot Summary

With a dead body laying between them, two men wake up in the secure lair of a serial killer who’s been nicknamed “Jigsaw” by the police because of his unusual calling card.

The Most Clever Horror Movie Ever!

Not only does this movie create an extremely tense atmosphere the moment it starts, it has plenty of gore and violence to bombard your eyes, not to mention that it has one of the best twists seen in any horror movie

I watched this film alone at night with the lights off, expecting to be freaked out by it since I thought it was just another typical horror movie; but instead I was completely intrigued by the story line, and utterly drawn into the film for the whole 100 minutes. At the end I did not feel scared, rather, I felt something very few horror movies have to offer: satisfaction! This movie left me in a slightly disturbed but very thoughtful state. It did not give me nightmares, rather, it plagued my day-dreams; for two days my thoughts could not stray far from this film, that’s how powerful it is

If you want a cringingly gory and violent horror movie, watch ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ or ‘Hostel’; if you want a nightmarishly scary horror movie, watch ‘The Grudge’ or ‘The Ring’; if you want a clever and disturbing horror movie with an excellent story and a great twist, watch ‘Saw’.
