“The Passion of the Christ” Movie Review

    “The Passion” Plot Summary

A film detailing the final hours and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. add synopsis

    Amazing film on multiple levels.

Mel Gibson has done the impossible. He has created a tale of the Christ that works on three separate levels

As a spiritual message, the film is overwhelming, bringing tears of renewal to the believers in the audience. Even if you are not a believer, though, I still think there is something in this for you

As an historical observation, the film is brilliant, depicting the social and political dynamics of the Romans and Sanhedrin with clarity and accessibility. This is the most believable interpretation of what happened to Christ, and although I knew the story going in, I found myself getting caught in the narrative, hoping someone would realize that this was an innocent man and that the persecution would stop

Finally, as a work of art, this film is unparalleled. Mel borrows from the works of Caravaggio, Puntarmo, Michelangelo and Leonardo et. al., as well as the Medieval Passion Plays. As one who was made to study this in college, it all came back to me in a graphic context, with production design so amazing that it felt like I was going back in time, that I was seeing Jesus and Pilate and Peter and Mary

This film will rock your world, and that’s an understatement. One of the most beautiful films I have seen.

    “Aliens” Movie Review

    “Aliens” Plot Summary

The planet from Alien (1979) has been colonized, but contact is lost. This time, the rescue team has impressive firepower, enough?

Easily the best of all the aliens

When I first watched Alien i was really impressed and had to get Aliens. I wasn’t sure if this could be as good because most sequels hardly ever surpass the first. But I thought this was a lot better. Don’t get me wrong the first was brilliant but this was amazing. Everything was right. They had a brilliant cast, brilliant story, brilliant effects and brilliant acting.

The thing i was most impressed about was the design of it all. It looked amazing. They Made things look realistic and the aliens looked really good as well. The aliens home was put together brilliantly. For a 1986 film they made the effects look really good and the set. The king alien looked very good and the set of it’s home was very good as well. Yet again Sigourney Weaver puts on a brilliant performance as like she did in the first one and Jennette Goldstien as Pvt Vaquez gave a great performance and is one of the best movie heroes ever.

With the first film it had a lot of parts that made you jump and had you on the edge of your seat. It was exactly the same with this one. There were lots of parts that made you jump and nearly the whole film had you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what was going to happened next and they had a lot more gore in this than the first which was good to see because i thought in the first it would be fairly gory but it weren’t that much.

If you thought the first was good you must watch this. You will be blown away by the effects and design and the great action sequences they have with the aliens. It is one of the best films made and it will keep you entertained from start to finish.

    “Blow” Movie Review

    “Blow” Plot Summary

The story of George Jung, the man who established the American cocaine market in the 1970’s.

    Great movie!

It is great to see a movie that knows the distinction between ‘anti-drug’ versus ‘anti-drug-dealer’. This movie shows the human side of prisoners of war in the war against drug choice and drug freedom. It does not demonize George Jung nor make him out to be a perfect human being. For instance, he is not portrayed as the best father in the world. Nevertheless, this distinction and balance is desperately needed in Hollywood’s current extreme state of bias in movies against drugs

Johnny Depp and Paul Reubens and Ray Liotta play their characters with wonderful sensitivity. They create no dull moments on the screen. The movie would have benefited from seeing at least one montage of the final buyers of cocaine. I would like to see from where all those bags and bags of cash ultimately came!

    “Sgt. Bilko” Movie Review

    “Sergeant Bilko” Plot Summary

This movie is a remake of the hit series which starred, Phil Silvers as Sgt. Bilko. In this movie, Bilko… add synopsis

    I enjoyed it a lot

Steve Martin is larger than life in this very funny comedy. He plays the title character who is lazy, sleazy, clever and always one step ahead of everyone else he should be ahead of. He runs the motor pool like it would be run by someone from ‘Animal House’. They spend all their time gambling and sleeping it off

A new recruit (Darryl Mitchell, from ‘Galaxy Quest’ and ‘10 Things I Hate About You) does not understand his unprofessionalism as a military man so in some ways Darryl acts as the audience. Bilko has a girlfriend who is onto him but loves him in spite of herself. He constantly leaves her at the altar (‘I’m the only woman I know whose wedding dress is showing wear’) but its a game they play more than anything. Plot takes off when Phil Hartman shows up. He’s an old adversary of Bilko and wants to even an old score. He demands that Bilko and his men shape up and even starts romancing Bilko’s girlfriend, which of course drives Bilko crazy. Glenne Headley is perfectly cast as Bilko’s girlfriend. Unfortunately Phil Hartman is miscast and does not generate the laughs you’d hope for from this comic genius. Dan Ackroyd is very good too, but of course the movie belongs to Steve Martin. He’s an acquired taste, but so what. 8/10.

“My One and Only” Movie Review

“My One and Only” Plot Summary

An unusual road trip movie about a mother driving her two sons from New York to Pittsburgh to St. Louis and eventually Hollywood in her quest to find a man to take care of them all.

    Wonderful Road Picture

This is truly an engaging, endearing and very funny look into relationships; both romantic and filial, typical of the 1950’s

One member here criticized the movie as hetero-phobic; I wouldn’t go that far, but men in the 1950’s were certainly not metrosexuals! And the classy blond belle which Ms. Zellweger plays with pitch perfect demeanor is just the type of woman that would attract unattractive male attention. The brutes she meets give the film its energy and give her a journey worth making for the audience. And there are two supporting male characters who are good hearted in the film, so the criticism simply doesn’t hold up. Zellweger has never been better! What we have here is a funny and poignant story about the survival of a woman who leaves her husband in the world of the 1950’s. As good as Ms. Zellweger is, the movie is stolen by the two very gifted young actors who portray her sons; Logan Lerman and Mark Rendall. The two of them couldn’t be more different, but they are brothers and understand each other and understand their mother. Lerman plays the more grounded of the two and creates a very real and sympathetic portrait. Rendall plays the flighty older brother; obviously gay and has a good deal of the ‘zinger’ lines which he delivers perfectly. After 20 minutes, you want to be with this family for the rest of the film

This is the kind movie that depends on writing and Charlie Peters has given us a convincing and at times, very witty screenplay. You feel and understand every character. The movie is directed with an understated classiness by Loncraine. It moves from adventure to adventure fluidly with assurance and style. And the production design has perfectly captured the era

Don’t miss this one! Frankly, one of the best films of 2009.
