‘Terminator Salvation’ 2009 – Review

‘Terminator Salvation’ is the movie starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. Impressive visual effects, powerful mythology, strong script and harmonious cast – these are components of the fourth part of the saga about the deadly war between machines and humans.

Terminator

Terminator

Fears of fans which were waiting for the movie release with a sinking heart – if McG will ‘craft’ something similar to Mostow’s ‘chef-d’oeuvre’ – those fears appeared to be groundless. ‘Terminator: Salvation’ managed to wash off the stain which was mercilessly imposed on the Terminator franchise by mess titled ‘Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines’. Now you can easily erase Kristanna Loken’s Terminatrix and amoebous John Connor performed miserably by Nick Stahl from your memory. Feel free to consider ‘Terminator’ a trilogy with ‘terminator Salvation’ being the third part.

The opening musical score of the ‘Terminator’ – like a hammer knocking on the anvil, which promises arduous trials to the humankind – is responsible for creating a legend out of the low-budget action movie to the same extent as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has played the ruthless machine in the preceding three Terminators.

This familiar tune is perhaps the only component maintained by the franchise up to the fourth series of the ‘human-vs-machines’ opposition story. With this mechanical heartbeat, which penetrates into every corner of the audience’s hearts, six years after the ‘Rise Of The machines’ enters the fourth installation by director McG.

McG is a cunning fellow, so he chose the right way to reanimate the movie legend – he has invited Christian Bale to star in ‘Salvation’. McG as a director has got enough competence and skills to do high-tech cinema attraction ( ‘Charlie’s Angels’), but he still lacks the charisma of James Cameron to end up with ‘ the magic’ of cinema. The legend of ‘Terminator’ requires much more than just a skilled professional, and that fact has been proven by the Jonathan Mostow’s ‘Terminator 3′.

    “Batman Begins” Plot Summary

The story of how Bruce Wayne became what he was destined to be: Batman.

    Excellent Batman

‘Batman Begins’ is certainly the best among the five movies of this great hero released in the theaters. After 1776 reviews in IMDb, I do not know what I can write that have not been written before. In my opinion, this film begins wonderful with the director, Christopher Nolan, of the fantastic ‘Memento’, one of my favorite movies. The cast is a constellation, composed of excellent actors and actress: Christian Bale is awesome in the role of the troubled and confused Bruce Wayne; Michael Caine, as Alfred, elegant, gentle and tough, is also perfect; Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, Hutger Hauer are very evil bad guys; Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman complete this lovely cast. The special effects are very good, and the cinematography recalls ‘Blade Runner’, with rainy and dark locations. The story explains the origins of Batman since his childhood in Gotham City. The soundtrack fits perfectly to the scenes. It is amazing to see that there are bad reviews of this movie, which is a very above average entertainment. My vote is nine

    “Public Enemies” Movie Review

    “Public Enemies” Plot Summary

The Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.

One of the best movies of 2009

I am a big Michael Mann film, Heat & Collatoral are amazing films and I feel that Mann delivered the goods big time in Public Enemies

Public Enemies is the story of the Depression Era bank robber John Dillinger (played by the charming Johnny Depp) who leads the FBI on a cat mouse chase. J. Edgar Hoover (played by Billy Crudup), the director of the FBI, orders Melvin Purvis (played by Christian Bale) to hunt down John Dillinger and his gang. With the FBI hot on his tail, Dillinger still manages to pick up a girl he likes in Billie Frechette (played by Marion Cottliard).

This movie is very entertaining and mesmerizing, it may have started out slow for the first third, but during the last 2/3′rds of the film this movie picked up. Mann is a expert craftsman, he gets you to fall in love with John Dillinger, yet he gets you to feel sympathetic for Melvin Purvis, who was given a practically impossible task

This movie is highlighted by the stunning cinematography that Mann is known for, as well as the action scenes such as the Little Bohmia shootout and the Dillinger jail break and others

I honestly could see Billy Crudup getting an Oscar nod for this movie, because his Hoover was a scene stealer, and maybe Johnny Depp. Bale as always plays a great straight man like in much of movies to counteract the eccentric leading man (i.e. 3:10 to Yuma, The Dark Knight). Cotiliard is also solid as Billie, and the times when she hits her mark, she REALLY hits it and gets the audience behind her

This is by far the best and most intelligent movie to come out in the summer of 2009. I recommend that most people buy the Blu-Ray/DVD because they will not be disappointed. No one in Hollywood does high octane crime dramas as well as Michael Mann.

    “Harsh Times” Plot Summary

A tough-minded drama about two friends in South Central Los Angeles and the violence that comes between them.

    Excellent movie

Bale’s performance in Harsh time is phenomenal this besides the machinist and American psycho have to be some of my favourite performances by him

The Chemistry between Freddie and Bale is great it seems like they’ve been ‘homies’ for years very tight friendship so you know how tight they are immediately and it makes you care for them

Bale’s character is a former soldier and he has major issues just imagine a soldier coming back for Vietnam with flash backs and such …pretty much they are never the same mentally again…that is bales character right there it’s much more deeper maybe someone will explain it better then me Freddie’s character is the guy who is a ride or die friend he’ll stick with you to end but he’s also a follower and get’s influenced very easily by bale’s character in the movie…I view it as Bale is like an older brother to him Eva Longoria is freddie’s girlfriend and she loves him to death because pirior Freddie stuck by here and help her out during university or college i can’t remember..All she wants now is for Freddie to get a Job but Bale’s influence always divides freddies focus on handing out his applications..She doesn’t like Bale’s character basically thinks he’s going to get freddie killed just imagine being with your friend throwing around a lot of cuss words but when your talking to someone at a business place you talk proper and not urban slang.. I’d say it’s a violent movie i mean there is some brutal scenes that will feed your violence fix….all in all this movie is pretty damn realistic

    “Dark Knight” Plot Summary

Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent are forced to deal with the chaos unleashed by an anarchist mastermind known only as the Joker, as it drives each of them to their limits. |

The Dark Knight —- Best Batman Movie Ever.

I have just come out of the ‘Dark Curtain’ Screening for The Dark Knight in Adelaide, and I’m blown away.

Nolan’s directing is sublime, the pacing of the movie was so well kept, managing to keep the audience enthralled in an almost 3 hour movie. There were several shots in the film that had me saying ‘Now how in the hell did they do that?!’, Brilliant scores by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. Every actor shines, no one person steals the film. I don’t want to say much about it, because whatever is said cannot do it justice, there is enough hype surrounding it’s release, but it’s there for a reason. Top Notch film. Bravo to Nolan and his crew for giving a movie that Batman truly deserves.

    9/10.

    “I’m Not There” Movie Review

    “I’m Not There” Plot Summary

Ruminations on the life of Bob Dylan, where six characters embody a different aspect of the musician’s life and work.

Beautiful, Unique & Full of Life

Todd Haynes (‘Velvet Goldmine’, ‘Far from Heaven’) created a non-linear, truly original film, that must be seen by every Bob Dylan lover. Haynes’s tapestry is ‘inspired by the music and lives of Bob Dylan’ – he introduces us to 6 different Dylans: Jack Rollins (Christian Bale), Woody Guthrie (Marcus Carl Franklin), Jude Quinn (Cate Blanchett), Robbie Clark (Heath Ledger), Billy the Kid (Richard Gere) and Arthur Rimbaud (Ben Whishaw), interweaving their stories in a groundbreaking narrative slightly similar to Todd Solondz’s unsettling, caustic ‘Palindromes’ (2004), in which several very different actresses (and a boy) play a 13 year-old pregnant girl. While ‘Across the Universe’ illustrated The Beatles’ fantastic songs with simple, adorable characters in a psychedelic rhythm, but with little character development (not that I’m complaining: I absolutely love to see visual masters like Baz Luhrmann or Julie Taymor on fire, since their self-indulgence creates wonderful sensorial pieces), ‘I’m Not There’ is much more complex: it’s deeper than conventional biopics (‘Ray’, ‘Walk the Line’), and much smarter than exploitative flicks (the atrocious ‘Factory Girl’). Haynes crafted a unique film that’s a feast for the eyes (thanks to cinematographer Ed Lachman, ‘The Virgin Suicides’, who also co-directed the disgusting ‘Ken Park’ with Larry Clark), ears (Dylan’s music is always a pie in the sky) and mind (it’ll make you admire the man even more, and it doesn’t even need to be an ass-kissing biopic to succeed on that). The cast is heterogeneous and solid, but I think critics are overrating Cate Blanchett for the sheer fact that she’s playing a man (which makes things more challenging for her, indeed), when she’s not really better than most of the cast; a good performance for sure, but I was much more impressed by Christian Bale and the young revelation Marcus Carl Franklin. Julianne Moore, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Michelle Williams play some important women from Dylan’s life, and the always underrated Bruce Greenwood has a small but interesting part. All in all, this isn’t a film that will enjoy big commercial success, and it’s probably too artsy (although, not in a bad way) to get the Academy’s top prize (even though Blanchett’s performance and, maybe, Haynes’s magnificent directing/writing, will probably be remembered), but it’s a real gem for those who want to see something really exciting and original. As for myself, I’m thankful to Haynes and his audacious, faithful producer Christine Vachon (this woman rocks, and in a perfect world, she’d have all the money that a certain Jerry Bruckheimer possesses), who always dare to blow us away – something rare, these days. Fascinating. 10/10.

    “Scrooged” Plot Summary

A cynically selfish TV executive gets haunted by three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve. add synopsis

    A very enjoyable film

This movie is fantastic. Although the supporting cast is great, every single other actor is completely out shined by Murrays brilliance. To me it’s kind of a shame that he’s been recognized mostly for his work with Wes Anderson. Although he brings a certain flavour to all of the Wes films you never quite find yourself begging for more Bill as you would after this picture, or What about bob. This movie made me think about all of the roles Murray either should have been cast as, or roles he should have taken. I couldn’t help but think that he may have made a better American Psycho than Christian Bale, and I’m a huge Bale/Bateman fan. Bottom line, the humour is anything but cheesy, and you may find yourself laughing at your TV with no one around because Bill is genuinely funny in this role

    “Rescue Dawn” Plot Summary

A US Fighter pilot’s epic struggle of survival after being shot down on a mission over Laos during the Vietnam War.

    Best movie of the year

It really was the best movie I’ve seen all year- narrowly beating The Departed (VERY narrow indeed).

I saw this at the second showing, so I wasn’t there for Bale or Davies or Herzog, but the movie was obviously worth it. I am very eagerly anticipating its theatrical release. Oscar buzz is good for this so far, but I’m afraid with the release date set for early 2007 that might not happen

Herzog expertly adapted his documentary into a full-fledged narrative that is both thrilling and heartbreaking (Steve Zahn… How awesome). This is worth every penny you pay for the ticket

    See it ASAP.

    I loved it

Shaft was a great movie. The acting was great and everything in this movie was done very well. The story was also very interesting. I think that Christian Bale played an okay villain. If he was more scary and more evil, it would be even better. I am not saying that he did not do a good job as a villain, but he could have been scarier. But it was still a good movie. I also think that Peoples should have been more evil. Other than that it was a great movie. I really liked the car chase in the end. Another thing that I really liked about this movie is that John Shaft was driving one of my favorite cars which is a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. If you like police movies than you will really like Shaft.

Fascinating Action/Sci-Fi Film!, That’s Very Engrossing, And Always Surprising!, With An Amazing Performance From Christian Bale!

This is a fascinating Action/Sci-Fi film that’s very engrossing, and always surprising, with an amazing performance from Christian Bale!. All the characters are awesome, and the story is fantastic and constantly unpredictable, plus Christian Bale is simply amazing in this!. It’s a little slow to get going, but pretty soon after wards i really got into the story, and while i didn’t get all that was going at certain points i was still fascinated all the same!, plus Taye Diggs was great as the villain, as was the other one!. The ending has a shocking twist, and it has some spectacular gun battles and fight scenes!, plus i wish Sean Bean didn’t have to get killed of so soon. The character development is awesome!, and i thought the plot while complicated was really excellent!, plus some scenes gave me the chills

There were some really shocking scenes, and the film had a disturbing feel to it, plus i found it quite creative!. This is a fascinating Action/Sci-Fi film, that’s very engrossing and always surprising, with an amazing performance from Christian Bale!, and i say it’s a must see for everyone!. The Direction is excellent!.Kurt Wimmer does an excellent job here, with stunning camera work, fantastic angles, wonderful slow mo shots, and lots of other great creative shots as well!. The Acting is wonderful!. Christian Bale is AMAZING as always, and is amazing here, he is incredibly tense, extremely likable, always unpredictable, had a very mysterious character, carried the film, had a lot of character, and you can’t take your eyes off him when he’s on screen, and amazing performance indeed! (Bale Rules!!). Taye Diggs is great here as one of the villains, and while i wanted to slap that smile off his face at times, he was quite effective, for the most part, i just wished he had more screen time. Emily Watson is great here, and can do these roles in her sleep!,i liked her lots. Sean Bean sadly only has a cameo, but it’s a damn cool one at that! (Bean Rules!). Rest of the cast do fine. Overall a must see for everyone!. ****1/2 out of 5
