“Public Enemies” Movie Review

“Public Enemies” Plot Summary

The Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.

One of the best movies of 2009

I am a big Michael Mann film, Heat & Collatoral are amazing films and I feel that Mann delivered the goods big time in Public Enemies

Public Enemies is the story of the Depression Era bank robber John Dillinger (played by the charming Johnny Depp) who leads the FBI on a cat mouse chase. J. Edgar Hoover (played by Billy Crudup), the director of the FBI, orders Melvin Purvis (played by Christian Bale) to hunt down John Dillinger and his gang. With the FBI hot on his tail, Dillinger still manages to pick up a girl he likes in Billie Frechette (played by Marion Cottliard).

This movie is very entertaining and mesmerizing, it may have started out slow for the first third, but during the last 2/3′rds of the film this movie picked up. Mann is a expert craftsman, he gets you to fall in love with John Dillinger, yet he gets you to feel sympathetic for Melvin Purvis, who was given a practically impossible task

This movie is highlighted by the stunning cinematography that Mann is known for, as well as the action scenes such as the Little Bohmia shootout and the Dillinger jail break and others

I honestly could see Billy Crudup getting an Oscar nod for this movie, because his Hoover was a scene stealer, and maybe Johnny Depp. Bale as always plays a great straight man like in much of movies to counteract the eccentric leading man (i.e. 3:10 to Yuma, The Dark Knight). Cotiliard is also solid as Billie, and the times when she hits her mark, she REALLY hits it and gets the audience behind her

This is by far the best and most intelligent movie to come out in the summer of 2009. I recommend that most people buy the Blu-Ray/DVD because they will not be disappointed. No one in Hollywood does high octane crime dramas as well as Michael Mann.

“Coach Carter” Movie Review

“Coach Carter” Plot Summary

Controversy surrounds high school basketball coach Ken Carter after he benches his entire team for their breaking their academic contract with him.

One of the best movies around

This movie isn’t just about sport but has an underlying moral message which is been shown throughout the film. Sport won’t get you far unless your a great but study and hard work in school will get you everywhere. Enter, a town that is quite poor and a basketball team who just want to win. Once Ken Carter accepts the job, the whole team changes and it is for the better. Another message this film teaches is respect, at the beginning just after meeting the boys, Ken expresses a need for the boys to show respect not only for themselves but for their friends and elders. He does this by explaining how the word ‘nigger’ can be used as a degrading term and how by dressing themselves with respect, behaving respectfully isn’t bad at all

As soon as I saw this film, I knew that I wanted to see it. It has everything that makes a great movie, action, great dialog and most importantly, a good moral message and in a time where morally corrupt movies are on the rise, a great movie like this is a rare find

Intiallly, my friends didn’t want to see this movie with me as they thought it was boring, and too intense but after months and months of waiting, I finally hired it out on DVD and watched it

You can actually take things away from this movie and it has a very good morals which can be applicable to everyone.

“G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” Movie Review

“G.I. Joe” Plot Summary

An elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as G.I. Joe, operating out of The Pit, takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer. |

Pure action

I can understand why people hate it. I mean the acting is just about average and the actors do not always fit in their roles but the movie is fun. I know that modern movies put so much effort in having great special effects and good action and sometimes forget that the actors need to act and the script to make sense. Well this movie had almost everything that they needed. They had money, some talented actors, a director that had done some good work in the past and a great chance to make it work. 170 million dollars are a lot of money. Well for me the action was great and the special effects to and that was enough for me because that is what I expected, not some award winning performances from the lead actors and if you don’t think to much about the plot holes you do not notice them as much. So to sum it up, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a fun movie that is just what it is, an action filled, adrenalin full movie.
