“Cradle 2 the Grave” Movie Review

“Cradle to the Grave” Plot Summary

A jewel thief’s daughter is kidnapped after he steals a collection of prized black diamonds, which aren’t at all what they seem. add synopsis

    Loved this little flick

Hey, it’s not Fellini, but I didn’t expect Fellini. It’s a good, old-fashioned, good guys vs bad guys kind of flick. One that’s fairly predictable, you can sit back, grab the popcorn, and just wait for the guys in the white hats to kick the butts of the guys with the black hats

So, the actors aren’t the best I’ve ever seen, but I was actually surprised and pleased with DMX’s performance, probably because I didn’t expect much and I don’t care for his ‘music’ at all. If nothing else, his character did come across as likable and he may surprise us all and improve with time. Both the movies I’ve seen him in, he at least portrays the ‘bad guy who’s not a bad guy at all,’ and at least gets a couple of points from me for trying to be a positive role model. I’ve seen Oscar winners who had worse performances, and people are being pretty hard on him on this board, but I think he did more than OK for the material he had to work with

The movie is provided with the obligatory comic relief with Tom Arnold and Anthony Anderson, and some other supporting actors with whom I’m not familiar, and of course the Jet Li fight sequences are always worth watching. How anyone can move that fast is incredible and I could watch him read the Yellow pages aloud just to watch the fights

So, if it’s a good, old-fashioned throwback to the good guys vs bad guys movie you’re in the mood for, check it out

    I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

    “A Beautiful Mind” Movie Review

    “A Beautiful Mind” Plot Summary

After a brilliant but asocial mathematician accepts secret work in cryptography, his life takes a turn to the nightmarish.

    Beautifully done

Now this is the Russell Crowe I know and love. The Insider, L.A. Confidential… and now chalk up another calculating masterful performance

A Beautiful Mind tells the autobiographical story of John Forbes Nash Jr. a distinguished professor from Princeton who went on to make some great theories and win the nobel prize. The centerpiece of the story is the fact that John Nash suffers from schizophrenia a debilitating condition for most people which leaves them helpless. Thus it is amazing that Nash has been able to achieve what he has. For the most part of the story his hallucinations turn out to institutionalize him at one point, when he thinks the Russians are trying to secretly send him coded messages through news publications

First off the main performance by Crowe as Nash is amazing. This is the performance that I know he is capable of, complicated, passionate and serious, none of this gutteral one line BS that he uttered in Gladiator. Here we have a marvelous performance that Crowe spins as we watch Nash fall into despair, every twitch, eyes darting, and Nash’s helplessness this is not an easy task for any actor. Nash is a recluse, almost an autistic savant, we see how he trys out his theories by writing on glass windows and stuffing himself in a corner of the library. He is seriously gifted, but a social misfit. Early on we hear how Nash describes how a grade school teacher mentioned that he was born with 2 heapings of brain but only 1/2 of heart

Ron Howard’s direction is great in exposing Nash’s life. Probably the best scenes involve the use of how Nash comes up with his theories such as why the dynamics of a colleagues tie is so bad, or how a plan to get all of his college buddies laid leads to a theory that makes him famous

Also what else can I say about Jeniffer Connely who plays his wife in the film. She is passionate and gives a full perfect 10 performance as well as the wife who is trying to survive with a husband she can’t help. But the greatest achievement of this film is how it portrays mental illness from the perspective of the person suffering it

Most films that deal with someone with a mental condition always place the focus on the people who are outside the person suffering, watching from a distance, trying to understand. Here we have a film that literaly puts us in the mind of the sufferer, as to what it is to live with such a debilitating illness. We get Nash’s sense of accomplishment, but also his demons and paranoia. And probably the most important thing is that we understand that mental illness isn’t something that gets cured, the people have to live with it, and it never goes away

Also Crowe and Connely age in this film wonderfuly, so many films try to age actors/actresses in makeup and it doesn’t work, but here it is done flawlessly..Minor faults in the film deal with that some of the supporting characters are reduced to props and people we don’t know, and at one point the film bogs slightly when Nash is trying to return to Princeton to study. But these points are minor since the performances of the main characters are so well done, and the stories focus is on them to begin with

Crowe will probably get the best actor for this. Great film

    Rating 8 out of 10.

    “I Am Legend” Movie Review

    “I Am Legend” Plot Summary

Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.

Two films in one; one is an interesting and intelligent thriller, the second is CGI-filled dreck

I enjoyed this movie for the most part. Well, the first half at least. The first half was a neat little apocalyptic thriller. The shots of a deserted New York were effective and purveyed a sense of isolation for the main character. Will Smith was excellent as Robert Neville, one of the only people alive thanks to a virus which has wiped out the world and turned everyone into vicious, animal-like creatures who are out for blood. Smith’s character is obviously losing his mind and having trouble coping with total isolation (well, apart from his dog friend). There are some tense scenes littered throughout which help keep you one the edge

Then we enter the second half, a crappy horror cartoon with no scares and some incredibly lame CGI monsters and a cliched ending. When the monsters finally come out I sunk in my seat, not only were they pure CGI, they were pure, BAD CGI. It was almost as if they ripped them straight from a cartoon or video game and dropped into the movie. It was embarrassing and it killed what could have been an excellent movie. Not only that, the second half felt incredibly rushed, some extended scenes would have been nice and would have helped keep up the tension. And when the end comes it is a ‘depressingly happy’ ending that feels a bit too cliched and comes as a disappointment

The first half is a four star psychological thriller with a fine performance from Smith and some well shot scenes. The second half is a two star horror cartoon with appalling SFX. That averages the rating to a: 3/5

“Up in the Air” Movie Review

“Up in the Air” Plot Summary

With a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, Ryan Bingham leads an empty life out of a suitcase, until his company does the unexpected: ground him.

    A Very Significant Film.

I’m not a particularly big fan of romantic comedies but after hearing positive feedback from the critics (Particularry Roger Ebert) and that it had themes of our economic recession I felt that that it wouldn’t hurt to see it, My expectations were surpassed and it is now, in my opinion, one of the best films of the year

Ryan Bingham is an socially isolated Corprate downsizing expert whom also gives motivational speeches on how to ‘unpack your backpack’ which is essentially a metaphor for people and things in life holding you back from your dreams (I can relate to his character because I tend to isolate myself too), When a young naive woman comes up with a way of conveniently firing people online with no travel costs, Bingham must teach Kendrick’s character the dignity of their work, being there for them rather than coldly firing them on a messaging device. Clooney’s Character was compelling and his performance brilliant, Vera Farmiga & Anna Kendrick also played convincing roles but Clooney’s cynical performance stole the show though as the film progressed he showed a more emotional human side to him which makes me feel he deserves a nomination for Best Actor

The best element in this film is the screenplay, It intelligently blends cynical pessimistic wit and emotional drama in a very unique way that I rather enjoyed, I hope it gets some recognition at the Oscars a win, if not a nomination

This film contains themes of human relationships, life choices, the indoctrination of technology in our society, isolation, family support and our economic recession and the themes are not blatantly shoved down our throats. This film is smart, witty and emotional. In my opinion this film is one of the best films of the year, 8/10.

    “The Pianist” Movie Review

    “The Pianist” Plot Summary

A Polish Jewish musician struggles to survive the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto of World War II.

The best war movie ever,Best movie on Holocaust..Heartbreaking and Shocking..

Roman Polanski is one of best directors ever to exist, the atmosphere he creates in his movies is so deep and influential. ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, ‘Repulsion’, ‘The Tenant’ and ‘Chinatown’ are all movies which have a great sense of mystery and dark addiction about them but when you mention ‘The Pianist’, it is his masterpiece

Roman Polanski rejected offer to direct ‘Schindler’s List’.Though it was a great movie as well, but after ‘Pianist’ we came to know what he was really thinking

The tale of Wladyslaw Szpilman is told in a flowing and natural way that creates an atmosphere no other War movie can

The story moves like a storm and there isn’t a frame you can skip

You cry, you feel pain and you start to feel as a part of miseries of people trapped in Warsaw Ghetto

No other movie has been able to portray the Holocaust better than ‘The Pianist’.Even people who want to know what Holocaust was, should watch this mesmerizing experience

Any review of this movie is incomplete without mentioning Adrian Brody

The worries, the hideouts, the hunger and the misery of Szpilman is naturally depicted to you by his powerful performance which earned him a deserved Oscar

The scenes when he is dragging A Can of food around the place he is hiding really brought me shivers to the feelings of a prisoner of war though I have my own experience of GULF WAR in 1990 to relate it with when I was just 10 years old

The realistic atmosphere of the movie is not to be missed by anyone.’The Pianist’ is one of the best movies ever made and the best war movie ever and to consider that it is based on a true story of survival, makes it much more Powerful movie.

    “The Road” Movie Review

    “The Road” Plot Summary

A post-apocalyptic tale of a man and his son trying to survive by any means possible.

    Very important movie …

I just got home from seeing ‘The Road’ and my stomach is still in a knot. I never read the book and therefore won’t be making any comparisons. I’ll simply comment on the film. I can’t imagine the performances being any better from any of the actors, starting at Viggo and working my way down to the smallest roles. I can’t imagine the bleak post-apocalyptic world being portrayed any more realistically. I can’t imagine the general feeling of sadness, desperation, hopelessness, terror and pain being captured more accurately. If that was the goal, the people involved in the making of this movie did their job magnificently. Having said that, it isn’t for everyone. I saw this movie alone because I had a feeling my wife wouldn’t be into it. It’s tough to watch. However, in the midst of this recession brought on by greed and materialism, I think it’s a movie that everyone of age SHOULD see in order to put things back into perspective, if only for a day. I had a lump in my throat through most of the movie and was desperate to get home and hug my two boys through most of it as well. I also felt like downsizing our entire life in terms of the unnecessary ’stuff’ we have. I imagined how many homeless people wander the streets right now with that feeling of hopelessness and desperation. What more could I ask from a Saturday afternoon at the theater? It’s this kind of movie that helps maintain a degree of integrity in the film industry among the inaneness that surrounds it.

“The Pink Panther 2″ Plot Summary

Insp. Jacques Clouseau teams up with a squad of International detectives who are just as bumbling as he is. Their mission: Stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historical artifacts.

    Best Ever Steve Martin Comedy

The movie is very watchable entertaining and VERY funny. I can now officially confirm that this movie proves Dennis Pennis was completely wrong in stating that Steve Martin had lost is Mojo. From the opening scene where Inspector Clouseau is trapped in the window of the moving car to the final scene at the wedding, this movie is a riotous and funny side splitting event. The casting of John Cleese was inspired. The chemistry between Martin and Cleese is superior to that in the first film between Kevin Kline and Martin. The other actors particularly the ever excellent Alfred Molina were very good. As of course was the cameo from Lilly Tomlin. The pacing and comic timing of this movie was very crisp, which added immensely to the enjoyment of the piece. I would rate it as one of the top 10 comedy films of all time. It is easily as good as anything Blake Edwards put together, with Peter Sellers. This film finally lays to rest the silly notion that Peter Sellers was a superior Clouseau than Martin. In a final point to prove Martin’s Genius. I defy you not to fall on the floor with side splitting laughter when Inspector Clouseau is explaining the password to John Cleese’s character after the black berets have come through the windows on the ropes. This is vintage Martin not to be missed.

    “World Trade Center” Plot Summary

Two Port Authority police officers become trapped under the rubble of the World Trade Center. add synopsis

Very Well Done Movie!!! With No Political Agenda…

We weren’t sure whether or not we would want to see this movie. Oliver Stone is someone who’s movies we don’t usually agree with. After reading many of the reviews on this site, we decided to give this movie a chance

It is a very impressive, well executed movie… with excellent acting, directing and editing!!! It is a movie that will remind you of that day, however, it is a movie about heroes, friendships and triumphs. Yes, there are points in the movie that you will tear up and even cry, yet there is also laughter at some points and there is a lot of positive throughout the movie even though it is was a time of crisis and horror surrounding the situation. The horror of that day does exist in the movie, however it isn’t overplayed or too dramatic to watch…. Also, that is not the main part of the movie. The movie is based on the lives to two of the trapped survivors as they tell/recall what happened to them on that day

The audience sat in awe watching the movie… nobody ever got up to leave their seats… and everyone was amazed at the end of how well the story was told. I’ve never seen the Theatre so crowded on a weeknight (almost at capacity)… and it was being shown on multiple screens at a big theater

I do recommend all American’s see this movie… as it pays tribute to the heroes and shows some of the good that came from the tragedy.

    “Notorious” Movie Review

    “Notorious” Plot Summary

The life and death story of Notorious B.I.G. (a.k.a. Christopher Wallace), who came straight out of Brooklyn to take the world of rap music by storm.

    Interesting!

Notorious tells the story of a Brooklyn junkie who later turned out to be one of the most world-wide known rappers. And that person was Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G’ Wallace, a junkie who turned to rapping and then produced albums that made millions while also making a name for himself. Jamal Woolard plays the role of Biggie Smalls exceptionally well and he also shares a similar face and body. It tells the story of Biggie Smalls life from 1972 to 1997 starting from his childhood all the way to his death. The rap music is the great thing about this film but Lil’ Kim’s live stage rap was totally unnecessary and inappropriate. This film shows that a celebrities life-style isn’t all that great and when they think that they have everything, next thing they are getting divorced. The acting from some, Like Angela Bassett and Jamal Woolard, were very promising and they really settled into the life or Biggie Smalls. If you ever wanted to know more about Notorious B.I.G then this film must is supposed to be on your must-watch list. The language is very rude and uncool because they are swearing in every line, Motherf*cker that and this! What is the world coming to? NOTORIOUS is the story of Christopher Wallace. Through raw talent and sheer determination, Wallace transforms himself from Brooklyn street hustler (once selling crack to pregnant women) to one of the greatest rappers of all time; THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. Follow his meteoric rise to fame and his refusal to succumb to expectations – redefining our notion of ‘The American Dream.’ The story does get interesting and a lot of lessons are learned and this film sent out a message saying: It’s never too late to change yourself

If you are a drama and rapping fan then by unanimous decision this film is what you need to watch. Jamal Woolard looks really weird and cute at the same time when he gets that weird smile on his face (See the scene between Faith and him at the end). Marc John Jefferies has given one of the best performances in the film as he portrays a young Lil’ Cease. The film also tells the story of Tupac’s and Smalls friendship that turned into a racial break up.

During the preparation, Carrie raises the guest list from seventy-five to two hundred guests, and a simple wedding dress to a fashionable Vivienne Westwood, intimidating Mr. Big in his third wedding. Meanwhile Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has no sex with Steve (David Eigenberg) and he confesses that he had had one night stand with a woman. On the next day, the scared Mr. Big calls off the wedding leaving Carrie in the church. Carrie feels humiliated and depressed and Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) decide to travel to Mexico with Carrie to the hotel where she was supposed to spend her honeymoon. When Carries returns, she hires the assistant Louise (Jennifer Hudson) to help her to organize her life. When Miranda discloses what she told to Mr. Big to Carrie in the rehearsal dinner, their friendship is shaken

The disappointing ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’ is a pale shadow of the wonderful TV series. The wittiness of the shows is completely lost in a shallow and too long story full of merchandising; most of the situations are naive and silly for characters of forty and something years old; and the conclusion is corny, but I liked the celebration among friends in a simple restaurant. I found contradictory that a movie explores love while a TV show uses sex as the central theme. What Miranda could expect after six months without sex with her husband? The new color of the hair of Sarah Jessica Parker fits very well to her type and the fabulous Kim Cattrall is still a very beautiful woman in spite of crossing the age of fifty years old. Miranda and Steve together on the Brooklyn Bridge may be corny, but I found it one of the best moments of the movie. The behavior of Samantha is sexually too contained, and I indeed expected more eroticism of this character in a feature. My vote is five
