“Insomnia” Movie Review

“Insomnia” Plot Summary

Two Los Angeles homicide detectives are dispatched to a northern town where the sun doesn’t set to investigate the methodical murder of a local teen.

Solid thriller with strong acting

Glad to be getting away from the Internal Affairs investigation in their department in LA, Will Dormer and his partner Hap Eckhart fly up to assist on a murder case in Alaska. Will quickly makes the progress that his reputation led young officer Ellie Burr to expect. However when a suspect is chased through fog, Will accidentally shoots Hap. He covers it up and blames the suspect, conscious that IAD will assume that he killed Hap to prevent him cutting a deal with them. However later he gets a call from the killer who saw the whole thing and is holding it over Will in return for him framing someone else. With fewer options and Ellie investigating the shooting, Will finds himself unable to sleep in the 24 hour sunshine and getting increasingly strung out

Better known as part 2 of Robin Williams proving he can do more than just sentimental crap, I was looking forward to seeing it. I haven’t seen the original film so I can’t contrast the two and say which is better – I could only judge this on its own merits. I found the film to be a very enjoyable thriller that was very atmospheric. The story itself is quite intriguing and is at its best when Will and Walter are playing cat and mouse games with each other. The main investigation and the investigation into Hap’s shooting all add to the intensity

Although it is quite slow at times it is actually well paced – some fast paced exciting moments but mostly dialogue driven scenes that are just as exciting. The direction is excellent and the whole film has a bright crisp feel to it. The final shot of the film is powerful yet still, with the protagonists frozen against a background of lake and mountains

The film’s main driver is the strength of the performances. Williams is excellent, I was never sure what to make of his character because Williams kept him complex enough to hold the interest. Pacino is also great. He actually looks dog tired progressively through the film. Like Williams, his character has enough meat on it to be of interest and when either of them was on the screen, my interest was guaranteed . Swank had a difficult task to play opposite Pacino in the majority of her scenes but she really holds her own. Donovan is good but brief, but to be honest it is Pacino and Williams’ film the whole way

Overall this is a classy little thriller that has more than enough going on to keep it interesting. The plot is well written so that it avoids a simplistic good/evil approach and the performances bring the well-drawn characters to life.

    “Scream 2″ Movie Review

    “Scream 2″ Plot Summary

It has been two years since the tragic events at Woodsboro. Sidney Prescott and Randy Meeks are trying to get on with their lives… add synopsis

My favorite of the three films.

Two years has passed… the infamous murders at Woodsboro has turned into a movie. Since the novel is written by reporter Gale Wheaters (Courtney Cox). Two college students (Jada Pinkett Smith and Omar Epps) were killed in a sneak peak of a horror movie called ‘Stab’, which is based on Wheaters’ book. Now Sidney (Neve Campbell), Randy (Jamie Kennedy), Dewey (David Arquette), Gale and Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) find themselves in danger. This killer certainly wants something from Sidney, so she’s also putting her boyfriend (Jerry O’Connell) and her two friends (Timothy Olyphant & Elise Neal) in deep trouble as well

Directed by Wes Craven (The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, Shocker) made an truly enjoyable sequel to ‘Scream’ that is even more entertaining and funnier than the original. The script by Kevin Williamson (Cursed, Teaching Miss Tingle) certainly made some truly fun writing about the rules of a sequel. This was just as a blockbusters as the original was. Some film critics (For example the late Gene Siskel) felt the sequel was much better. There’s an amusing film within the film, which those scenes are directed (uncredited) by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids Trilogy, Grindhouse, The Faculty).

The Original DVD has an sharp non-anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and an strong Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD includes Cast & Crew information and the original theatrical trailer. The only flaw in the sequel is the conclusion, which is a bit too much. ‘Scream 2′ has many funny moments as well for suspenseful moments. A good cast certainly helps. Heather Graham, Joshua Jackson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tori Spelling, Luke Wilson and others appears in bit parts. ‘Scream 2′ is certainly one of the better sequels has to offer these days and don’t miss it. Also available in a collector’e edition DVD with anamorphic widescreen, commentary by the filmmakers and more. Panavision. (****/*****).

‘Freeeeeeeeeedom!’. A Very Emotional Experience, This Film Deserves Every Bit Of Praise It Gets!, With An Incredible Story, And An Oscar Worthy Performance From Mel Gibson

This was a very emotional experience, this film deserves every bit of praise it gets, with an incredible story, and an Oscar worthy performance from Mel Gibson!. All the characters are wonderful, and the story is just brilliant!, plus Mel Gibson is simply incredible in this!. To be quite honest i was expecting to hate this film, since it’s generally not my type of movie, however i am a big fan of Gibson’s and the movie is praised everywhere so i decided to check out, and i must say it’s as good as everyone says it is!, plus the ending is extremely powerful, and left me staring at the screen in awe!. i found the mooning scene to be fairly humorous, and this has to be one of the more violent films i have seen in a while, plus The direction is simply phenomenal, Mel deserved his Oscar in that department!. it’s extremely well written and made, and all the characters were very likable!, plus i was rooting for Mel all the way, and was sad with what happened to him. The opening is very memorable and quite disturbing, and the dialog is wonderful, plus i loved Mel’s Scottish accent!.I loved the scenes between Mel and Catherine McCormack!, and not minute was boring, as it was constantly engrossing!, plus The setting was great, and felt very real. Mel had wonderful chemistry with,Catherine McCormack,James Cosmo and Sophie Marceau!, and the cinematography was just beautiful!, plus this film deserves the spot it has right now at IMDb’s top 250!. It does run a tad long, but it was never overlong or boring, and the score is simply magnificent!, plus the finale while wonderful, is very hard to watch!. I cannot believe 2367 people voted this a 1! and i must say, the battle scenes are some of the most exciting i have ever seen!. This film was a very emotional experience, and it deserves every bit of praise it gets, with an incredible story and an Oscar worthy performance from Mel Gibson!, and if you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for? Do so immediately, and even if you don’t like this sort of thing check it out anyway you might be really surprised!. The Direction is phenomenal!. Mel Gibson does a phenomenal job here, while nothing fancy, it’s still incredible, with wonderful camera work, and just keeping the film powerful, and very engrossing throughout!, he deserved his Oscar in this department!, in my opinion. As for the violence, No comments, i’ll just say it’s extremely bloody and violent, see for yourself. The Acting is Oscar worthy!.Mel Gibson is amazing as always, and delivers an Oscar worthy performance here, he was extremely likable, incredibly convincing, was a man of courage and honor, who fought for revenge and his country, and you will be rooting for him all the way, and approving on how he decides to handle it, i just wished what happened at the end to his character didn’t happen!, he was incredible!. (Gibson Rules!!!!). James Cosmo was fantastic here!, he had a great looking beard, , was very likable, and had wonderful chemistry with Gibson!, i really liked him. Catherine McCormack is stunningly gorgeous and was simply wonderful here, i just wished she had more screen time!,cause she was wonderful, and had great chemistry with Gibson, she was also very charming. Brian Cox has a small role, but he had presence as always, and did fine with it. Patrick McGoohan and Peter Hanly are both very intense and do fantastic!. Sophie Marceau is beautiful and is excellent with what she had to do i really liked her. Brendan Gleeson is fine as well. Rest of the cast are fantastic. Overall if you haven’t seen it what the hell are you waiting for? Do so immediately even if you hate this genre!., you might just be really surprised!. ***** out of 5, it’s one of the best films ever!.

    “The Bank Job” Plot Summary

Martine offers Terry a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London’s Baker Street. She targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewelry. But Terry and his crew don’t realize the boxes also contain a treasure trove of dirty secrets – secrets that will thrust them into a deadly web of corruption and illicit scandal. add synopsis

    Better than Most

    I recommend this movie

The movie has a well thought out plot. It moves at a good pace that leaves you interested with the actual events in the film

The acting was well done. Jason Statham continues to be one of todays most under-appreciated and underrated actors. Yes, he does do some questionable action movies, but when you put him in a role where one actually needs to ‘act’, he never disappoints

The dialog was ‘catchy’ but still believable. The characters in this movie are believable in their ’sinister’ ways or their ‘everyday joe’ kind of ways. You really do end up hating certain individuals and loving others. There are so many interesting characters that have an interest in the bank heist that you really do want to know how it all ends

There was no unnecessary violence just for the sake of violence and yet at points, it felt like an action thriller

In the end, this is a movie with a great plot, great characters, good dialog and an ending with no holes. AND this movie is missing the Hollywood ‘over the top’ quality that has a tendency to ruin most movies

    Definitely worth seeing.
